Pencoedtre High School is a large new build high school in Barry, Wales. When this busy school required a brand-new world class flooring surface for its main indoor sports hall, they simply wanted only the best! HLM Architects would specify 700m2 of Taraflex® vinyl sports flooring in ‘Maple’, from international flooring specialists Gerflor.

The Glasgow Science Centre’s vision is to empower people through learning and engaging with science. With over 350K unique visitors every year, the centre needed to replace the existing flooring throughout the facility. During a recent refurbishment international flooring specialist Gerflor would supply a mixture of their hardwearing GTI Max, Attraction® and Taralay Premium flooring that would total 1800m2.

Donabate Portrane Library, recently refurbished by the Fingal County Council, is now a warm and inviting community library as a result of products chosen from Forbo Flooring Systems. The Marmoleum and Tessera products were chosen for their practicality, cleanliness and variety of interesting designs. And Sarlon Topography from Forbo’s acoustic vinyl collection was a must providing a quiet reading or studying environment.

La Roche Limestone floor tiles are used on the ground floor of this large self build project that incorporates many elements from Stoneworld. Bespoke Limestone floor tiles cut in our masonry workshop incorporate a contrast Spanish black marble tile to build a floor design. La Roche limestone floor tiles are used in various formats throughout this flooring project.

Stratum were a part of this new build design for an eco-friendly modern family home. Since the developer experienced a Stratum resin floor in his previous new build property, he was keen for it to feature across a larger area on this project, with the installation taking place in the kitchen and main living space, hallway, utility room, cinema room and the garage. Challenge-      To select a colour and finish that would sit alongside and compliment a range of different materials chosen for the interior spaces.-      To carefully programme in the work and coordinate with the other trades on the project.-      To achieve the desired level of liveliness in the character of the floor when being mixed and applied. -      To install the floor system alongside a mechanical car lift within the garage Solution-      Bolidtop FiftyFifty was selected for all of the living spaces to create a seamless flow with a bespoke, warm, modern aesthetic. An anti-slip epoxy resin floor was selected to meet the demands of a garage.-      Stratum consistently communicated with the project manager, navigating around the project whilst maintaining access to adjoining areas for other key trades.-      To invite the customer to watch the pour.-      To arrange delivery of materials to site at just the right time. Benefits/Installation-      The developer had experience of working with Stratum and our floor systems which helped with the planning and design stages of the build, e.g substrate, underfloor heating, skirting detail etc.Result-      A beautiful unique floor, for a stunning, environmentally friendly new build home. When the local community hospital in Whitby, Yorkshire commissioned a complete re-development and refurbishment of the existing location and buildings, the flooring and finishing throughout the site would need to be of the very highest standards. International flooring specialist Gerflor would supply over 7000m2 of high-quality flooring, together with a selection of Gradus handrails and corner guards for this Procure 22 project.The redevelopment of Whitby Hospital by the team at Medical Architecture has created a modern health and social care hub which supports the integrated delivery of primary care, secondary care, and community services.Louise Drew, Senior Architect, Medical Architecture said, “We chose to specify Gerflor for their outstanding world class flooring products and were pleased that they could also assist us with the wall protection surface needs for the healthcare facility. This project is a collaborative effort of many different parties to enable many facets of the community. It was partly funded by Burnley Football Club and grants from funding bodies including Sport England. DYNAMIK worked alongside Barnfield Construction to create the sports facilities including a four court Sports Hall installed with a DYNAMIK area elastic sprung sports floor finished with Tarkett Veneto Sports Linoleum, an ideal solid synthetic surface for sporting and community use. The Dance Studio was installed with a DYNAMIK sprung sports floor in Oak.

The various rooms in the centre benefited from Gerflor’s outstanding Taralay Impression Comfort and Taralay Uni Comfort flooring.

In cooperation with local partner L-Group, Lindner was responsible for the production and installation of the flooring systems: a total of almost 22,000 m² of the FLOOR and more® G30 and FLOOR and more® G40 hollow floor systems were installed. Despite its low weight, the dry hollow floor impresses with excellent properties in terms of load-bearing capacity, acoustics, fire protection and sustainability. For the server rooms of the administration building, particularly high demands were placed on the floor: Lindner NORTEC G38 ST and VENTEC S38 R38 raised floors were used here ‒ the extremely stable raised floor panels provide the necessary ventilation via the cavity.

245 Hammersmith Road is a commercial development in Hammersmith, W6, London. The 10-storey scheme will provide 22,482m² of flexible office accommodation and 1,207m² of retail and restaurant space at ground level, as well as exciting new public space for the local community, covering in excess of 2,500m². Alfresco Floors supplied 1200 x 600mm Fisher porcelain pavers and 600 x 600 Freel porcelain pavers.

Sparsholt's continued growth over recent years meant that a new sports hall was required to enhance their sporting facilities. The new building included a four badminton court hall along with a modern Dance/Aerobic Studio and extensive Fitness Suite. The majority of the work was completed using the area elastic Komfort Plus sprung sports flooring system finished in Tarkett solid Sports Vinyl.

Through the use of our innovative Advanced Flooring Mix, Cemex were able to offer a supply solution reducing health & safety risk while offering significant cost savings. Cemex materials approached the customer to offer the use of Advanced Flooring asa construction solution for the internal ground floor slab for an extension to the accident and emergency department of Glan Clwyd hospital. A historical reputation for excellence in academia and sport, Badminton School enhanced and maintained this reputation with a new sports hall. Clare Elsley, Assistant Director of Sports at the school, and former England International Netball player, insisted that the performance of the floor enabled the school to use the facility for multi-sport. The DYNAMIK sprung system provides high levels of shock absorption and comfort which benefits teaching staff and students alike. This system replicates that of a DYNAMIK sprung wooden floor, however has all the benefits of having a synthetic playing surface which keeps future maintenance to a minimum.

The University of Illinois street dining renovation project includes a high-end micro-restaurant dining concept that serves over 3,000 students a day. Gerflor’s Taraflex® Sport M Performance vinyl sports flooring in three pulsating colours; Pink, Silver Grey and London Light Blue.

Hush Acoustics provided an acoustic treatment for the floors within the visitor centre of the first sake brewery in the UK, Dojima Sake Brewery. The client was concerned the excessive impact noise from busy areas would transmit through the floors and affect other spaces. The solution was to develop a floating floor design involving Hush Panel 28.Hush Panel 28 was specified for use within the visitor centre to provide an acoustic overlay floor treatment for the café area, which is above the main visitor centre, to help control impact noise from the busy environment.The specification was developed in conjunction with Alinda Barua from SCABAL Architects (Studio Cullinan and Buck Architects Ltd), which represented an excellent collaboration to arrive at the required acoustic improvements.

Over ten years ago The States of Guernsey in the Channel Islands wanted to source 500m2 of sports flooring for The Guernsey Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre. Taraflex® Evolution sports flooring was specified for their main sports hall.

SubFloor raised flooring was used to renovate, raise and level a 25 m² loft to allow for deeper insulation near Llanelli, South Wales.The SubFloor system was used to transform an attic renovation. Its adaptability to varying floor heights proved to be a true asset. The 3.6 m long joists allowed for easy setup and adjustment, effortlessly conforming to the unique shapes of different rooms. Becket Keys School specified an area where international flooring specialist Gerflor made a positive difference by supplying some 680m2 of their outstanding high performance Taraflex® sports flooring in ‘Oak’ for the planned refurbishment of the new sports hall.

When St Fagans National Museum of History in Cardiff instigated a recent project to fit-out a new gallery, they needed a flooring innovation that was not only durable but would also look stunning and stand the test of time.Specifying 190m2 of Gerflor’s Attraction® range of fast track flooring in ‘Paraiba’, enabled the museums budgets to work hard for them as they needed a flooring product that was going to be durable over the long term, coping with the processes of exhibition installation and take down, and the daily use of the gallery by a stream of high volumes of visitors.

When the school decided to replace the existing flooring in the main sports hall the aspects of quality, performance and durability took centre stage. The new sports surface needed to be multi-purpose in order to be able to host exams and school functions, so therefore needed to withstand varied usage and heavy traffic. A recent refurbishment by Eureka! The National Children’s Museum in Halifax, West Yorkshire was instigated to redevelop their retail visitor area to expand its offer for visitors. BackgroundWe were contacted by a well-known gym franchise who specialise in functional training, which is a mixture of circuit and HIIT style workouts orientated around everyday movements. This style of training includes a variety of activities (e.g. Slam Balls) which can cause substantial vibrations and airborne sound to transfer through the floor, which can in turn affect the neighbouring properties.They required an acoustic gym flooring system that would reduce the overall environmental impact and noise pollution associated with these types of gyms, the owners of the property had some acoustic tests carried out by an independent acoustic consultant who specified the level of acoustic requirements.We put forward a range of our MuteMat® Gym systems, to be tested against various competitors. From these tests, we understood which of the systems would perform to the required impact reduction as specified by the acoustic consultants. We continued by providing the client with a range of quotations for the appropriate MuteMat® Gym acoustic flooring systems.Supply and InstalliKoustic was selected to supply and install the MuteMat® Gym 15-B68 system as we could offer a high-performing solution with a short lead time for a fully installed system at a very competitive price. When Ainsley Gommon Architects was tasked with designing the new sixth form college in Connah’s Quay, it called upon Forbo Flooring Systems to ensure the interior design would easily accommodate changes in the curriculum, while clearly defining departments.Deeside Sixth, a joint development between Coleg Cambria, local schools and Flintshire County Council, is a £14.6 million state-of-the-art centre, which provides a learning environment to offer enhanced curriculum options to A Level students.

The ProjectLoughborough College provides a range of courses in further education, along with apprenticeships and professional qualifications. It is based on one of the largest student campuses in Europe, sharing the area with Loughborough University. Over 2000 students attend the college, with some living in adjacent halls of residence.The college staircases needed to be refurbished. The flooring was previously terrazzo, and this was to be changed to a rubber flooring. This was suitable in terms of durability and slip resistance for the large amount of people on the campus. To complement the flooring, the stair nosings had to be equally hard-wearing and safe.The stair nosings needed to adhere to all Building Regulations guidelines, along with BS8300:2-2018 and the Equality Act. This meant that they needed to have great slip resistant properties, and stand out from the black flooring to create a ladder effect on the staircases. This would help people to navigate the stairways, especially those with visual impairments.There was a special request from the college which would help to attain this noticeable difference between the stair nosings and the steps: “Hot Rod Pink” tread material, to match Loughborough College colours.The ApproachMidlands Flooring was hired as the flooring contractor for the refurb. As Hot Rod Pink is not a standard stair nosing colour, Dave Wilson from Midlands Flooring got in touch with a number of manufacturers to see if anyone could rise to the challenge.Within 24 hours, Quantum Flooring returned its proposal for manufacturing bespoke Hot Rod Pink tread material specifically for Loughborough College. The unique stair nosing tread would be made from the same material as Quantum’s normal tread, meaning it would be slip resistant and suitable for the frequent foot traffic.Quantum’s SR125R stair nosings were chosen to fit the tread material into. These profiles have a ramped back, to ensure that there would be no trip hazard on the staircases. They are raked back on the riser, to ensure a perfect fit on the steps. Plus, Quantum’s UTA aluminium stair edging trims were fitted, providing a safe and aesthetically pleasing finish to the side of the steps on the open string stairs.The OutcomeQuantum ensured a fast turnaround on the stair nosings, using the QSMS free measuring service. A Quantum representative electronically measured all of the steps to their precise lengths, and sent the results to the distributor Carpet & Flooring in Birmingham for the stair nosings to be cut and drilled.Midlands Flooring fixed the stair nosings with Q-Fix contact adhesive, ensuring a strong bond to the steps. Secret-fix was used to drill the profiles, meaning the tread material could be fitted on site, and there was no need for unsightly plugs to hide the screws in the tread. Quantum’s SR125R stair nosings with Hot Rod Pink tread material look fantastic in Loughborough College. The college was delighted with the results.Loughborough College has a unique, on-brand stair nosing tread for its refurbished stairways. Midlands Flooring did a fantastic job on the project, and Quantum backed them up with innovation and expedience.

The Elite Training Centre, home of Team GB Wheelchair Basketball, houses DYNAMIK’s sprung engineered oak flooring. This is an ideal surface for wheelchair users to aid the glide of wheelchairs as the low rolling resistance of sprung systems finished with a solid ‘non-spongy’ playing surface, allows chairs to easily glide across the floor.

St Columba’s is one of Scotland’s highest achieving schools, and the need to replace the flooring within its Junior School’s multi-purpose hall and two corridors located within the school’s extension, has brought the refurbished areas into the 21st century. Gerflor’s Taraflex® Multi-Use was the flooring product most suitable for the hall renovation as it combined the aesthetic, hardwearing and safety characteristics wanted.
