Application

Suitable for coastal, suburban and rural environments.

Description

A traditional through-colour render which incorporates an aggregate of small evenly sized pebbles into the mix.

Features and benefits:

  • WBS Roughcast (also referred to as Wet Dash) is a cementitious product incorporating silicone technology to produce an attractive through-colour render with excellent water resistant properties.
  • It is a traditional render which incorporates an aggregate of small evenly sized pebbles into the mix.
  • WBS Roughcast is a popular alternative to dry dash, whereby a flat basecoat is applied followed by a through-coloured slurry coat which when evenly applied, provides an attractive, watertight, textured finish.
  • WBS Roughcast can also be applied using a hopper or Tyrolean gun.

Execution

Install system as per manufacturer’s instructions.

Manufacturer guidance

  • Brush down substrate to remove any friable material, algae or lichen. Any ridges or protrusions should be removed and hollows filled to provide a smooth surface.
  • Apply fungicidal wash if required to remove all algae / fungus from the substrate.
  • Apply stabilizing solution if required to help improve adhesion and offer uniform suction.
  • Attach base rails and the relevant surface profiles.
  • Apply the WBS Basecoat to an even thickness of 6-8 mm.
  • Bed the WBS Alkali Resistant Scrim Cloth into the top third of the basecoat, overlapped by 75 mm. Mesh to be kept taught and fixed from the top downwards. No laps within 150 mm of any reveal or corner. Ensure mesh is covered by the basecoat.
  • Bed 200 x 200 mm off-cuts of mesh positioned at 45º to window opening corners.
  • Lightly scratch basecoat surface with a scratch comb to provide a key for finishing coat. Allow basecoat to fully dry before applying the finishing coat.
  • Trowel apply one coat of WBS Polymer Dashing Mortar to a minimum thickness of 4-6 mm in the traditional manner to the entire wall surface to be treated.
  • A darby or straight edged tool may be used to ensure a relatively uniform thickness which can then be smoothed out using a plastic float.
  • Always turn a sufficient quantity of the final coat for a gable or large panel into a bath or box to ensure that regularity of colour is achieved.
  • Throw the Roughcast onto the surface of the Dash Receiver whilst the Dash Receiver is still green (hard but not fully set), using a hand scoop or alternatively an adjustable Tyrolean gun may be used.
  • Do not go over semi-cured areas to fill in misses as this can lead to inconsistency of colour. Do not apply water during set.
