Application

  • Suitable for use as the capsheet within a bituminous built-up roofing system. The membrane utilises a special grooved adhesion technology. The self-finished mineral surface provides a decorative and solar reflective finish for the built-up waterproofing system.
  • The torch-on elastomeric membrane has been developed for use in high-performance built-up systems on flat, pitched or curved roofs; when incorporated in a suitably designed multilayer system they will greatly improve the long-term performance of that system.
  • Hydrocarbon solvent-based products, such as Naphtha, paraffin and creosote will have a harmful effect and should not be allowed to come in to contact with these membranes.

Description

Thermaweld FireSmart is a polyester reinforced, styrene butadiene styrene (SBS) modified bitumen membrane with enhanced fire performance (spread of flame and fire penetration). The polyester carrier is impregnated and then coated in FireSmart® SBS modified bitumen. The upper surface is coated with mineral granules and given a 120 mm wide mineral-free selvedge finished with a thermofusible film. The underside is given a special grooved profile for torch-on application and is finished with a thermofusible film to prevent sticking in the roll.

FireSmart® Technology:

FireSmart membranes are formulated using finely ground volcanic silicone rock which has withstood temperatures in excess of 5000°C. When a flame comes in to contact with the surface of the FireSmart membrane, the presence of volcanic rock brings about an endothermic reaction within the membrane. Heat is drawn from the flame to support a process of carbonization in the membrane, so reducing the burn temperature.

The resulting unbroken carbonised ‘shell’ then seals off combustible material beneath, denying the already-weakened flame further fuel and preventing any further combustion.

Features and benefits:

  • The material is impervious to water.
  • It is not susceptible to insect attack or pest damage and is unaffected by fungi, moss, lichen, moulds or bacteria.
  • The material is unaffected by freeze/ thaw cycling. It will support temperatures from -20 °C to 90 °C without damage
  • Correctly installed and maintained systems incorporating the capsheet may be expected to last in excess of 20 years.
  • The material is compatible with most building materials with which it is likely to come in to contact with during roofing works.
  • CE marked (EN 13707, 13, 0086-CPD-505779).
