The special power drive – T-STAR plus – is a so-called hexalobular socket. Compared to less precise drive types such as Philips or Phillips, the contact surface of our T-STAR plus is significantly larger, and the T-STAR plus bits always fit perfectly in the screw head. The resulting optimal, precise power transfer from screwdriver to screw with the T-STAR plus enables simple and extremely fast work, and is significantly more efficient than with any other drive.

Of all SPAX’s screw head shapes, the raised countersunk head is by far the most decorative. Whereas the countersunk head screw is completely flat to allow the screws to be countersunk flush, the raised countersunk head offers a slightly convex curve on the top. Depending on the screw type and surface finish (stainless steel, nickel-plated, WIROX, and antique), these screws become not only a necessary fastener but also a decorative element. This plays a role, for example, in furniture construction and when attaching baseboards.

In contrast to a partial thread, the full thread on most of SPAX’s full-thread screws extends the entire length, or almost the entire length, from the tip to the head. The more threads a screw has, the greater the tensile and compressive forces it can absorb. SPAX take advantage of this, especially in structural timber construction, where full-thread screws are used for heavy-duty wood connections.

The 4CUT designation for the tip of the screws refers to the fact that it is not round, but square. These four edges displace the wood fibres during screwing, creating space for the screw's core diameter. This effectively reduces the otherwise unavoidable expansion pressure exerted by the core in the wood, preventing the wood from splitting open near the edges. The torque required by the cordless screwdriver is also reduced, as the screw core doesn't have to "squeeze" into the wood.

The abbreviation A2 for our stainless steel screws comes from the steel's alloy. ‘A’ stands for "austenite," a mixture of iron, carbon, and the alloying elements chromium, nickel, and molybdenum. The 2 (1-5) indicates the alloying grade, i.e., the chromium and nickel content.

A2 stainless steel screws offer high corrosion protection and medium strength. However, their resistance to seawater and acids is low. They are therefore used outdoors in areas far from the coast, where they provide long-lasting, reliable service.
