Application

Warm roof system for flat roofs featuring a self-adhesive RubberGard™ EPDM single ply roof membrane.

Description

RubberGard™ EPDM SA represents the next generation of self-adhered roofing membranes. It features a factory-applied Secure Bond adhesive across the underside of the membrane, which eliminates the need for bonding adhesives or waiting time. Consequently, RubberGard™ EPDM SA can be installed much faster than standard EPDM roofing membranes, so more roof area can be covered in a day and more roofs can be completed in the season.

RubberGard™ EPDM SA is based on Elevate’s highly durable RubberGard™ EPDM roofing membrane, together with its unique Secure Bond technology, which ensures the uniform and strong adhesion of the membrane to the substrate. This makes RubberGard™ EPDM SA even easier to install, reliable and pleasant to work with.

Features and benefits:

  • Superior durability.
  • Superior cold weather performance.
  • Faster and easier installation.
  • Solvent-free and odourless.
  • Outstanding adhesive strength.
  • Low lifecycle cost.

Specification data - Single layer sheet warm roof covering systems

Preparation

-

Horizontal work

Not applicable.

SA-19 Primer.

Manufacturer guidance

Preparation of the horizontal substrate is only required where the V-Gard air & vapour control layer is to be adhered.

No primer is required for horizontal application of the RubberGard EPDM SA membrane over the approved substrates.

Skirtings and vertical work

SA-19 Primer.

Guidance for specification option:

Elevate SA-19 Primer is used to prime and prepare exterior concrete, wood, and metal surfaces to enhance the adhesion of Elevate V-Gard vapour control.

It is also used to prime seams of the V-Gard vapour control layer when required.

Can also be used for vertical application of the RubberGard EPDM SA membrane.

QuickPrime Plus.

Guidance for specification option:

Alternative primer for vertical application of the RubberGard EPDM SA membrane.

Air and vapour control layer

-

Type

V-Gard Vapor Control layer.

Guidance for specification option:

Elevate V-Gard Vapor Control Membrane is designed to be used as a vapour control layer in Elevate roofing systems. It consists of a reinforced aluminium foil with self-adhesive bituminous backing protected by a release film.

The fibreglass reinforcement makes it suitable for applications that involve high mechanical stresses.

The Elevate V-Gard membrane can be installed on concrete, wood and steel deck.

Attachment

Self-adhesive bituminous backing.

Insulation

-

Type

RESISTA™ AK+/MG insulation boards.

Guidance for specification option:

Consult manufacturer for details.

ISOGARD™ AK/MG insulation boards.

Guidance for specification option:

Consult manufacturer for details.

ISOGARD HD cover board.

Guidance for specification option:

An optional, lightweight, high-density polyiso (PIR) foam cover board of 12.7 mm thickness, with coated fiberglass facers to both sides, which is used to protect the insulation layer beneath and may also be used as a recovery board. It provides an optimum surface for fully adhered Elevate roofing membranes.

Consult manufacturer for further details.

DensDeck Prime cover board.

Guidance for specification option:

Patented design that consists of a water- and moisture-resistant treated gypsum core laminated on both sides to a mat glass facer.

Features a pre-primed surface for a better bond in case of a fully adhered roof cover.

Consult manufacturer for further details.

Other.

Guidance for specification option:

Insert details of suitable PIR MG insulation boards (consult manufacturer to confirm suitability.

Attachment

I.S.O. Twin Pack Insulation Adhesive.

Guidance for specification option:

Elevate I.S.O. Twin Pack Insulation Adhesive is a two-component low-rise polyurethane adhesive designed for anchoring acceptable roof insulation and cover boards to an acceptable substrate, as well as for adhering multiple layers of insulation.

It is a solvent-free insulation adhesive that contains no harmful HCFCs or CFCs.

Mechanical attachment using appropriate fasteners and load spreading plates as approved by manufacturer.

Guidance for specification option:

Consult manufacturer for details.

Waterproof covering

-

Type

RubberGard™ EPDM SA.

Guidance for specification option:

1.5 mm thick; supplied as standard in rolls of 30 x 3 m.

Attachment

Self-adhesive.

Joints

Side laps 100 mm minimum overlap with 76 mm QuickSeam Splice Tape.
End laps and edges where an adhesive-free selvedge is not available will be sealed using 150 mm-wide QuickSeam Cover Strip.

Guidance for specification option:

Expansion joints:

  • Ensure enough excess of RubberGard EPDM SA membrane to accommodate building movements. A compressible tube supports the membrane.
  • The release liner of the RubberGard EPDM SA membrane in contact with the compressible tube should not be removed.

Roof edge and wall termination:

  • A roof edge or wall termination detail should be installed as specified by the designer and is applicable at all locations where the EPDM flashing ends, e.g. at all flat edges, wall or curb upstands. The standard roof edge details illustrated in the RubberGard EPDM Technical Guidelines are also applicable for the RubberGard EPDM SA system.
  • The RubberGard EPDM SA flashing should always be mechanically fixed where ended, when used to flash in roof edges or wall termination, as per standard RubberGard EPDM detail drawings.

Consult manufacturer's literature for full details.
