Application

RiserSafe® can be used for all different types of structure in-situ concrete, steel frame composite deck, precast, twinwall and lattice slab, post tensioned slab, post fit for refurbs.

Description

RiserSafe® is a bespoke modular flooring system designed for riser shafts in multi-storey buildings. It provides a safe and coordinated solution for routing Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) services vertically through the building while ensuring structural integrity and fire protection.

Key Functions and Benefits:

  1. Safety and Structural Integrity:
  2. RiserSafe® acts as a permanent formwork, covering and securing the openings in floor plates that form riser shafts. This prevents falls from height and fire spread during both construction and the building’s lifetime. Each unit has a safe working load (SWL) of 2.5 kN/m² (250 kg/m²), ensuring a stable and secure platform for maintenance.
  3. Fire Protection and Compartmentation:
  4. The steel box design serves as a casting and fixing point for passive fire protection such as drylined or blockwork walls. When combined with fire protection compounds, it provides horizontal fire compartmentation, limiting smoke and flame spread between floors.
  5. Compatibility with Post-Tension Systems:
  6. Each RiserSafe® unit is manufactured to accommodate concrete post-tension systems, which require precise tensioning at the riser juncture. This ensures the system integrates seamlessly with the structural design of the building.
  7. Facilitates MEP Routing and Maintenance:
  8. The system provides a stable and coordinated route for MEP services, simplifying maintenance and ensuring that technicians can work safely within the riser zone. The concrete infill acts as an insulator and a strong anchor for heavy MEP loads.
  9. Adaptability and Design Flexibility:
  10. The unit’s design is standard, but the length, width, and depth can be adjusted to suit the specific design intent of the service riser openings within the floor slab of each project.
  11. High-Quality Manufacturing:
  12. RiserSafe® is made from a Zintec-coated steel frame with 6–8 mm durbar floor plates that are shot-blasted and red oxide primed (26–30 μm thick) for durability. The joist hangers are also made of Zintec-coated steel and have teeth that lock into the inside wall ‘C’ section for secure placement.
  13. Corrosion Protection:
  14. Designed for internal use but able to withstand temporary weather exposure during installation, the perimeter frame is made from 3 mm Zintec-coated steel, providing corrosion resistance through an electro-galvanized zinc coating on both sides.

Additional Features:

  • Provides permanent formwork for concrete
  • Eliminates the need for handrails
  • Supports heavy MEP services
  • Acts as a secure storage area for construction materials
  • Facilitates early completion of M&E design
  • Enhances overall construction efficiency

Conclusion:

  • RiserSafe® simplifies and improves riser shaft design and construction by combining structural support, fire protection, and MEP coordination in one system. It reduces risk, improves safety, and ensures long-term performance and ease of maintenance.
