Keim Universal Render
Application

  • Keim Universal Render is suitable for use on new buildings and is suitable for the renovation and preservation of historic monuments and listed buildings.
  • Suitable for use on mineral and organic substrates including glazed tiles, rubble stone, brickwork, concrete, timber, various insulation boards and marine ply, and can be applied onto existing sound renders without the need to hack off.
  • It is also suitable for concealing cracks, flaking and differences in texture, has a long life and provides a durable finish.

Stir using a mechanical stirrer or plaster mixing machine.

Apply to pre-wetted surfaces in layers from 4–10 mm. For subsequent applications, do not scratch up applied coat, and leave for a minimum period of 12 hours before reapplication. Finish off using a float appropriate to the required surface finish (i.e. sponge faced float such as Keim Sponge Hydro Float).

Keim Glassfibre Reinforcing Mesh may be incorporated if required, by pressing into newly applied first layer of Keim Universal Render and then applying a further finishing coat - consult manufacturer for details.

The render shall be left for a minimum period of 15 days prior to any decoration taking place.

Description

Keim Universal Render is a pre-bagged mineral render.

Features:

  • Extremely flexible.
  • Versatile.
  • Easy to apply.
  • Provides an alternative to hydraulic lime, giving the main features of NHL (Natural Hydraulic Lime) whilst the application is similar to conventional sand/ cement render.
  • Applied by trowel or machine, Keim Universal Render incorporates a glass-fibre reinforcing mesh which gives flexibility and negates the need for expansion joints.
  • Contains a small amount of organic additives and fibre reinforcement, for use on all mineral substrates, both exterior and interior.

Surface preparation:

  • All loose, flaking and unstable material must be identified and then thoroughly removed using stiff brushes and broad bladed scrapers to get back to a sound edge; these edges should then be feathered in. Ensure that any paint materials left remaining and the underlying substrate is sound and adhering well. Any gloss or shiny surfaces should be thoroughly flatted down using sand or emery paper to create a good key.
  • Any algae growth should be wire brushed to remove all growths and treated with Keim Algicid, brush applied undiluted and allowed to remain undisturbed for three hours before thoroughly washing off.
