Description

Developed exclusively by WBS, the EPSITEC External Wall Insulation System has been designed to satisfy the need for an insulated render system incorporating a drainage cavity, for use on lightweight steel or timber frame construction.

Lightweight steel and timber frame structures are extremely robust and can be assembled in a matter of weeks using factory production methods. Once the framework has been assembled, and has been clad with an external weather-grade building board, the EPSITEC system can be installed directly to these boards and packed out to remove unlevel areas.

This innovative technique offers many advantages compared to traditional masonry methods, including increased speed in construction and it also allows internal contractors to commence works much earlier in the building programme, resulting in reduced build time and associated cost savings.

Following NHBC Guidelines, the EPSITEC System has been designed to incorporate a drainage cavity between the board and the system allowing any moisture to naturally drain away.

Intumescent strips are also positioned at every floor level and party wall to control the spread of flame in a fire situation.

In addition, the systems allows for a wide range of insulants of varying thicknesses to be used to help meet or exceed current building regulations and U-value requirements and provide an efficient, cost effective system suitable for low, medium and high rise construction.

The system is finally completed via the use of a wide selection of coatings and textures, which gives the completed project a hard-wearing, attractive, weatherproof finish.

Features:

  • NHBC/ Zurich approved drainage cavities can be achieved on steel/ timber frame constructions (in accordance with EN ISO 6946: 1996).

Durability:

  • This system has an assessed anticipated lifespan in excess of thirty years.

Movement joints:

  • Where movement joints are present in the existing substrate, it is highly recommended that they are carried through the WBS system. For further details on the position of movement joints please contact Wetherby Technical Support.

- WBS Epsitherm Insulation Boards:

  • 1200 x 600 mm x thickness to suit project requirements.

- WBS Mineral Fibre Insulation Boards:

  • 1200 x 600 mm x thickness to suit project requirements.

- WBS PIR Insulation Boards:

  • The boards achieve a thermal conductivity (λ–value) of 0.028 W/m²K (insulation thickness < 80 mm), 0.027 W/m²K (insulation thickness 80–119 mm) and 0.026 W/m²K (insulation thickness > 120 mm).

- WBS Phenolic Insulation Boards:

  • 1200 x 600 mm x thickness to suit project requirements.
  • The boards achieve a thermal conductivity (λ–value) of 0.023 W/m²K (insulation thickness < 24 mm), 0.022 W/m²K (insulation thickness 25–44 mm) and 0.020 W/m²K (insulation thickness 45–120 mm).

Thermal calculations:

  • Are carried out for each project to help to determine the thickness of insulation required to meet current Building Regulation requirements.

Fire Performance:

  • Unless the EPSITEC External Wall Insulation System has been specified with mineral wool or phenolic as the insulant of choice, when used on multi-storey buildings, fire breaks must be incorporated into the system at every floor level above 1st floor and at each compartment wall abutment. Please refer to BR 135 ‘Fire Performance of External and Thermal Insulation for Walls of Multi Storey Buildings’; 2nd edition, 2002.
  • All intumescent strips used within the EPSITEC External Wall Insulation System have a fire protection rating in excess of 60 minutes.

Product Options

Fixings:

  • Where mechanical fixings are required, the length, type and number of fixings into the substrate required can only be determined following an on-site pull out test.
  • Secondary pinning may be required on high-rise applications. Please consult with WBS Technical Support for recommendations.

Finishes:

- Flexible Silicone & Acrylic Finishes:

  • WBS flexible silicone & acrylic thincoat finishes are supplied pre-mixed and are available in 100 standard colours. Special colours and colour-matching to other manufacturer's palettes may be available on request. WBS silicone and acrylic finishes are available in four standard grain sizes in the 'K' range and two grain sizes in the 'R' range. Other grain sizes can be acquired on request.
  • WBS Silicone & Acrylic systems are certified for European Technical Approval from the DIBT, Germany. ETA is an EEC wide accepted equivalent to BBA. Standard.
  • WBS Silicone & Acrylic systems are BBA approved on the Epsitec system.
  • Please consult with WBS Technical Support before specifying any dark colours with a lightness value of less than 20.
