Total bitumen inverted roof system, incorporating inverted insulation, and torch-on bitumen capping sheet with self-adhered bitumen underlayer.
Bauder Total Roof System (BTRS) is suitable for a variety of applications on both new build and refurbishment projects and can be used in warm, cold and inverted roof scenarios. For green roof situations, please see Bauder Total Green Roof System (BTGRS).
Bauder Inverted Roof systems should be ballasted/ landscaped to prevent wind uplift and/ or floatation. Type, thickness, weight of landscaping should be agreed with Bauder per bespoke project basis.
See BBA certification 10/4744. BTRS can meet current UK Building Regulations Part B for external fire protection, and can feature torch-free and safe to torch installation on combustible details.
Features and benefits:
Torch-Free/ Safe to Torch Zone Detailing:
Bauder was the first manufacturer to pledge its support to the Safe2Torch initiative, introduced by the National Federation of Roof Contractors (NRFC) in July 2017. The torch-free detailing designs specifically deliver secure and safe installations in the vicinity of combustible construction materials located on, or connected to, the roof such as timber substrates or upstands; abutments to cladding, roof tiles, slates or thatch; or debris such as dry leaf material that is at risk from ignition.
Torch-free detailing can be integrated into all bituminous waterproofing solutions to give versatile, safe installation techniques for all roof types, site conditions and budgets.
The waterproofing flashing should be turned up by at least 150 mm around features such as rooflights, parapets and service pipes passing through the roof, detail work to upstands, edge details, flashings, etc. The membrane should not be taken up in one piece. Consult Bauder for further information.

Preparation | |
Horizontal work | Activator-Primer (Canister) APR01 – Black.Guidance for specification option: Synthetic rubber resin-based primer, developed to provide the necessary preparation of substrates prior to the installation of self-adhesive and torch-applied membranes. The spray application offers improved film thickness speed of application (by up to 50% over roller applied products) and quick drying in a matter of minutes.

Type | BauderTEC KSA DUO.Guidance for specification option: A technically advanced self-adhesive SBS elastomeric bitumen underlayer with “DUO” lap technology to ensure thorough sealing of lap joints, even in lower temperatures. The product features a glass lattice reinforcement for strength and stability. The product benefits from cleaner, safer and faster installation than traditional torch-applied membranes.

Type | K5E.Guidance for specification option: Torch-applied, heavy duty, elastomeric bitumen, mica finished capping sheet, 5 mm-thick. Features a spunbond polyester reinforcement to allow the finished product to cope with structural movement without fracture. Its mica finish means that it has no integrated UV protection, therefore only suitable for applications where it will be covered with inverted insulation or hard landscaping such as pavers or promenade tiles.
K5K, Brown.Guidance for specification option: Torch-applied, heavy duty, elastomeric bitumen, mineral finished, capping sheet, 5.2 mm-thick. Features a spunbond polyester reinforcement to allow the finished product to cope with structural movement without fracture, and a mineral finish to provide protection against UV degradation. Expandable graphite fire retardant is also incorporated to reduce spread of flame.
K5K, Charcoal Grey.Guidance for specification option: Torch-applied, heavy duty, elastomeric bitumen, mineral finished, capping sheet, 5.2 mm-thick. Features a spunbond polyester reinforcement to allow the finished product to cope with structural movement without fracture, and a mineral finish to provide protection against UV degradation. Expandable graphite fire retardant is also incorporated to reduce spread of flame.
K5K, Grey Slate.Guidance for specification option: Torch-applied, heavy duty, elastomeric bitumen, mineral finished, capping sheet, 5.2 mm-thick. Features a spunbond polyester reinforcement to allow the finished product to cope with structural movement without fracture, and a mineral finish to provide protection against UV degradation. Expandable graphite fire retardant is also incorporated to reduce spread of flame.

Flashings | Not required.Bauder GRP Trim.Guidance for specification option: GRP roof edge Trim for use with Bauder bituminous roof systems. Available colours of either grey or black and a choice of profiles to suit the requirements of most projects. Bauder Aluminium Termination Bar.Guidance for specification option: Natural finish aluminium alternative to a lead counterflashing for use at upstand details to give protection to the top edge of the waterproofing. It should be restricted to use on upstands where a chase cannot be cut into the wall. Bauder GRP Termination Bar.Guidance for specification option: Black glass reinforced plastic (GRP) alternative to a lead counterflashing for use at upstand details to give protection to the top edge of the waterproofing. It should be restricted to use on upstands where a chase cannot be cut into the wall. |
Skirtings and upstands | Not required.Bauder LiquiFIBRE Detailing Kit.Guidance for specification option: Fast curing waterproofing resin containing fibre reinforcement that can be used for detailing awkward shapes or inaccessible areas where using LiquiDETAIL is impractical. PMMA-based resin that requires a catalyst and is solvent, isocyanate and halogen free. Bauder LiquiDETAIL.Guidance for specification option: Cold liquid applied fast curing waterproofing resin that can be used on upstands and details. PMMA-based resin that requires the addition of catalyst to trigger curing and is solvent, isocyanate and halogen free. |

Ballast | Manufacturer guidanceInsert requirements. Loading over inverted insulation (minimum): Ballast (landscaping) should be installed onto the Bauder WFRL Membrane (Water Flow Reducing Layer) to a minimum depth required to achieve a permanent minimum 80 kg/m² and load which prevents wind uplift and flotation of the insulation in high winds and/or heavy rainfall. |
System accessories | Not required.Bauder lightning conductors.Guidance for specification option: Lightning conductor clips are a specially designed secure clip that allows for movement.
Bauder insulated rainwater outlets.Guidance for specification option: For maintaining thermal continuity at drainage points. Suitable for warm, cold and inverted roof construction, the high thermal value of the rigid foam body prevents condensation from forming on the underside of the outlet. Designed for use when connecting to conventional drainage systems, with excellent flow rate performance and is suitable for both new build and refurbishment projects. Outlets are included in the Bauder waterproofing system guarantee as they are integrated components. Flow rate figures (where applicable) are based on BS EN 12056:3:2000, typically taken using a 35 mm header of water including leaf grille:
Bauder rooflights/ glazing/ ventilation.Guidance for specification option: All these glazing products are fully compatible with the roof waterproofing systems. Consult manufacturer for details and insert requirements.
Landscaping options.Guidance for specification option: Consult manufacturer for information. |
