The Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre is a new £300m purpose built, world-class rehabilitation centre for the armed forces and service personnel who have suffered major trauma or injury. WorkSpace completed the FF&E fit out including bespoke reception desks featuring Corian® in Deep Nocturne and brass cladding. We also supplied and installed fitted bedroom cabinetry including wardrobes and desks, dispensers, bedside lockers and whiteboards.

The new £28m Mental Healthcare facility was completed in 2020. Located alongside the River Foss, the 6.5 acre site has been transformed to create the new state-of-the-art hospital that will provide high quality mental health inpatient care. The beautiful surroundings, natural daylight and muted colours of the interior provide a calm, peaceful environment to patients and staff alike. WorkSpace Design supplied the full FF&E package for the 72 bed hospital including fitout of the receptions, bedrooms, treatment rooms, Clean/Dirty Utilities, ADL Kitchens, Café/eating areas and storage rooms. There are four 18 bed wards – two adult, single sex wards and two older people’s wards – one for people with dementia and one for people with mental health conditions such as psychosis, severe depression or anxiety. All wards have supporting day spaces and therapy rooms. Supporting accommodation includes for a 136 assessment suite, ECT treatment and space for home treatment and care home liaison teams. This facility will provide access to high quality mental health care and offer cutting edge facilities that support our service user, families and carers with their care needs.

Greenock’s new £21 million Health and Care Centre was completed in 2021 for Hub West Scotland, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and BAM construction . It was an opportunity to create a centre where the local community can expect to be supported by a extensive range of professionals, close to home. The new Centre will provide access to modern and integrated Primary Care and Community Health services to the people of Greenock and beyond. It will help tackle health inequalities and promote social regeneration, bringing huge benefits to the local people.

Heartlands Hospital - NHS Birmingham

WorkSpace was selected by the main contractor, Interserve, to manufacture and install the laboratory fitted work surfaces, cabinets and shelving within this new £8m pathology unit at Heartlands Hospital, Birmingham. This package included the design and manufacture of custom lab benching, support frames and service ducts. The new facility also provides specialist testing across the region for diseases such as Tuberculosis, cervical cancer, HPV, chlamydia and MRSA. Lord Carter of Coles and Trust Chairman, Lord Philip Hunt unveiled a plaque to mark the occassion.

The Huddersfield Royal Hospital Ward 18 refurbishment has provided 15 new en-suit bedrooms with enhanced ventilation, utility rooms and new staff accommodation, giving Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust more capacity to respond to the Covid19 pandemic. From order confirmation to installation, this project was complete in 3 ½ weeks! The patients were moved into the ward only four days later. WorkSpace supplied and installed Group 1&2 clinical furniture, FF&E and other bespoke joinery including a toughened glass protective screen for the reception desk. The Integrated Covid Hub for the North East is the first of its kind in England and places the region at the forefront of managing the virus. It provides improved capacity for Covid-19 testing, facilities to develop innovative approaches to Covid science and a regional centre to share and coordinate data, information and resources in the fight against the virus. We worked closely with the design team at Ryder architecture and the team at Robertson Construction to design and manufacture a modular laboratory benching system. The whole process was fast-tracked and a bespoke fit-for-purpose solution was designed, space planned on the BIM model then installed and completed ahead of the agreed handover date. The hub is hosted by Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust on behalf of a partnership involving North East local authorities, NHS organisations, public health teams and local universities.

NHS Louisa Jordan Hospital was a step-down facility for patients recovering from Covid-19. The hospital facilities were built within the existing Scottish Event Campus buildings in Glasgow. The facility was constructed to give extra capacity should NHS Scotland require additional flexibility during the pandemic. The 24,000m2 of space was converted into a field hospital providing 1,036 beds and 90 high dependency units. WorkSpace Design supplied and installed Nurse Stations, IPS, IPS Trough Stations, Mobile Hand Wash Stations and much more. Due to the nature of the pandemic programme for delivering the facility, the project was delivered within an incredibly short space of time from design to installation. The staff at NHS Louisa Jordan will have vaccinated around 175,000 people across the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, carried out more than 32.000 outpatient appointments and trained over 6,900 healthcare staff and students. We are privileged to have been part of this national effort in supporting our NHS on the frontline.

The 175,000 sqm NEC venue in Birmingham was converted into a temporary 4,000 bed emergency hospital for Covid-19 patients. The hospital was officially opened by the Duke of Cambridge on the 16th April. The initial phase deadline was met in just 13 days and handed over on the 10th April 2020. The hospital was initially able to hold 496 beds divided into four wards with the potential to be immediately increased to 800 if necessary. WorkSpace Design supplied a range of different RapidWard products including handwash stations, cabinets, worktops, HTM storage units to name a few. This unprecedented project required agile thinking and dedication from all the teams that were involved. The critical nature of the project strengthened collaboration between the project partners, allowing us to ensure we met and addressed the evolving needs of the project.

NHS Nightingale Exeter was designed to provide high quality specialist care for COVID-19 patients in Devon, Cornwall and the wider South West region. The hospital provided 116 beds to care for seriously ill coronavirus patients and those with less severe symptoms. WorkSpace Design were pleased to assist in supplying and installing worktops, units, IPS and much more from our RapidWard range. Over the Summer of 2020, Nightingale Exeter provided additional capacity for cancer screening due to a reduction of covid-19 cases.

The conversion of the ExCel London Exhibition centre into an emergency Covid-19 hospital facility took place in a matter of weeks. The hospital comprised of 80 wards of 42 beds with the capacity for 4,000 patients. WorkSpace manufactured and installed over 1000 units of equipment from our RapidWard range, delivering the first phase of 120 units within 3 days. Our team worked 24 hours and even the weekend to ensure we were able to meet the timescales of the project. Working closely with our project partners BDP, we were able to tailor our operation to meet their rapidly evolving needs. This project was an extraordinary show of collaboration from all involved and is proof of what can be achieved when everyone across all construction disciplines pull together to deliver the impossible.

Working alongside BDP and Vinci Construction, we assisted with the fitout of the 750 bed hospital. This project took up to 1,000 people working 24-hours a day to from start to finish. The entire project was completed in less than 13 days – a real testament to the hard work that was put in from people at every level across the construction industry. Officially known as Nightingale Hospital North West, the facility was created to treat coronavirus patients from across the region who did not require intensive care but still needed treatment. This then relieved pressure and freed critical care beds in existing hospitals. The venue is part of Manchester Central’s exhibition and conference complex. The building’s main hall was divided into 18 wards with a total floor space of 14,500m2. We manufactured and installed nurse bases, handwash stations, worktops, clinical cabinets and racking from our RapidWard range. The furniture’s unique mobile design allowed for a rapid, easy installation for the team on site.

The Lighthouse Lab in Plymouth was a £20 million regional testing lab that was converted by Kier Construction in conjunction with Ward Williams Associates and Stride Treglown. The building was converted and renovated in a record time to help in the effort towards fighting Covid 19. From Design to Installation, the project took under just 3 months to complete, making it one of the fastest turnaround projects we have ever completed. Workspace were involved in providing the lab FF&E comprising of lab benching, reception desk, social distancing screens, lockers, hygienic cabinetry and many other items. We worked closely with the design team at Kier Construction to use innovation to come up with the best solution for the needs of the lab. The modular mobile benching we installed at the lab was uniquely designed to allow for greater flexibility and repurposing.

The Rainbow Hospital Deeside and Rainbow Hospital Bangor were built in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, providing 680 additional beds, space and facilities for treating Covid-19 patients. Workspace supplied furniture from our Rapidward range including handwash units, mobile nurse bases and clinical storage, racking and office furniture. Working closely with Vinci Construction and HE SIMM, we transformed sports centres into surge capacity wards in a matter of days!

Family-owned German hospital group Schoen Clinic opened their first private medical facility located on Wigmore Street, London. The clinic includes 39 en-suite inpatient rooms across three top floors of the building, along with consultation rooms, therapy and office space on the first floor, and three theatres located in the basement. Our scope of work included bespoke joinery with Corian® worktops and sinks, a mixture of base and wall units with integrated glove and apron dispensers, IPS systems, lockable drugs cabinets and curtain tracks.
