Vacuum Insulated Glass: The Next Big Thing?

Vacuum Insulated Glass (VIG) is an emerging technology that has been in commercial development for the last 20 to 30 years. A VIG unit is typically about 5/16 inch thick, yet provides an R-value two to three times the R-value of a typical dual-pane insulating glass unit. While some VIG technology has been commercially available since as early as 1996, its presence in the United States architectural market has been minimal. In this webinar, WJE architectural engineers Tony Cinnamon and Sarah Sinusas provide a brief history of VIG technology, describe the typical make-up of VIG and Hybrid VIG units, present thermal performance of available products, and describe considerations for evaluating various products available in the market, for both historic preservation applications and high-performance new construction.
