Trespa® Meteon® Selected for Distinguished Skating Club DesignThe third oldest skating club in the United States, The Skating Club of Boston (also known as “The Club”) is home to a community of families, athletes, and professionals brought together through skating. Founded in 1912, The Club relocated its world-class training facility in 2020 in Norwood, Massachusetts. Studio Troika in Boston designed this new Olympic caliber facility. Partner Michael Samra said, “We wanted to make the entrance warm and inviting.” Trespa® Meteon® panels in NW02 Elegant Oak in Satin finish were selected. The Studio Troika team sought an exterior solution that would be both highly durable and low maintenance. Michael shared that they evaluated the total lifecycle cost of materials and knew the Trespa® Meteon® panels would look good year after year. “Knowing the height of the building, there is no one going up that high to maintain it.” The panels were face scored, a cost efficient use of materials, to give the look of siding.

North of the arctic circle, Trespa® Meteon® panels brave the elementsTromsø, Norway’s northernmost city, is located on an island well above the Arctic Circle. Tromsø has a population of nearly 80,000, and at such an exceptionally high latitude, there are only two other cities of similar or larger size anywhere in the world. Therefore, when Knut Brandsberg-Dahl of Filter/Arkitekter in Oslo decided to take part in the competition for a new school building, he was aware that the project would be unusual in more than one way.“We are a fairly small architectural firm that was founded in 1999, with two partners, Thomas Lærdal and myself, and a total of ten architects. Although we do housing projects as well, public buildings feature prominently in our portfolio – and among them, educational buildings are certainly a forte”, summarises Knut Brandsberg-Dahl. “This focussed expertise is important, because all larger public projects are competitions, and we need both good ideas and excellent credentials to win them. The Sommerlyst School in Tromsø was no exception”.

Stunningly different: a project with a mission in AmsterdamCentury-old, typically narrow brick houses, their gabled Renaissance façades reflected by the Old Town’s ‘grachten’, the ubiquitous canal system – this is the slightly clichéed picture conjured up by Amsterdam, and it could not be further away from bold, contemporary architecture. The Netherlands, though, have been a hotbed for modern art and radical design innovation since the 1920s: we owe to creative Dutch minds, from Piet Mondriaan to Gerrit Rietveld to Rem Koolhaas, some of the most disruptive evolutions in the way we interact with colours, shapes and living spaces. Accordingly, ‘studio thonik’– a new building in Amsterdam that has become instantly iconic – is not nearly as unexpected as it might seem at first sight. It is nonetheless highly unusual in more than one respect. A foray into architecture by a gifted graphic designer who is at the same time the building’s owner, it defied conventions right from the start. A multi-purpose construction with long term, built-in flexibility, it is sustainable not simply by its execution, but by its very concept. And with its dazzling striped façades, it has transformed a small, rather unpromising lot on nondescript Wibaustraat, the main arterial road south of the city centre, into an overnight landmark.

The Reef Leisure Centre

The Reef Leisure Centre

Trespa UK Ltd

The Reef Leisure Centre in Sheringham features a distinctive contemporary façade that incorporates Trespa Pura® NFC panels as a key architectural element, selected to complement the centre’s dynamic leisure programme and coastal setting while providing lasting performance and aesthetic value. Designed by Saunders Boston Architects as part of a modern, accessible community facility, the cladding uses a combination of wood-inspired and matt finishes that lend visual warmth and textural richness to the exterior, reinforcing the building’s welcoming character and helping it harmonize with both its urban context and the natural beauty of the Norfolk coast. The Pura NFC high-pressure laminate panels provide a durable, weather-resistant outer skin capable of withstanding a wide range of environmental conditions typical of the UK, including rain, wind, UV exposure, and seasonal temperature changes, while maintaining colour stability and surface integrity over time. Integrated into a ventilated rainscreen system, the panels support effective moisture management and thermal regulation behind the façade, reducing risks of condensation and aiding building envelope performance. Their closed, engineered surface also minimizes dirt buildup and simplifies cleaning and maintenance, making them well suited to a high-use public building. Together, these qualities ensure that the cladding not only enhances the centre’s architectural expression but also delivers long-term functional resilience and low-maintenance performance appropriate for a flagship leisure facility serving the Sheringham community.

At a groundbreaking research facility, a single worktop solution covers the whole spectrumAs the fourth oldest university in the UK, the university of Glasgow, founded in 1451, has a long tradition of fostering the talents of scientists and scholars across many disciplines. It has been home to seven nobel laureates as well as world-famous luminaries, including the physicist lord kelvin and adam smith, one of the founding fathers of modern economics. With the arc, its advanced research centre, the university is addressing the research challenges of the 21st century by opening unprecedented, cross-disciplinary perspectives to world-leading scientists. Andrew Tobin, professor of molecular pharmacology and the arc’s founding director, brings it to the point: “the arc, and the principles behind it, have been a long-term goal of the university. As a name, it encompasses our vision to conduct collaborative, out-of-reach research that has real societal impact. It is so much more than a building. We want to take a shared vision and expertise from across all areas of the university community to genuinely transform the way we do research, with the ultimate aim of changing the lives of the people, community and world around us.”

Trespa Pura® panels are characterised by their matte, natural finish and subtle surface texture, which avoids glare and gives the façade a soft, refined visual quality. On the vet clinic, this results in an exterior that feels welcoming rather than overly industrial, an important consideration for a client-facing healthcare building. The panels present a highly consistent colour and surface finish across elevations, creating a cohesive and well-detailed envelope. The clean lines of the panel joints and crisp edges reinforce the building’s modern architectural language, while the understated finish ensures the façade does not feel overly dominant within its surroundings.Unlike coated or painted materials, the colour of Trespa Pura® panels is integral to the panel itself, which gives the façade a sense of depth and permanence rather than a superficial finish. This helps the building maintain a fresh, high-quality appearance over time.
