Sustainability overview

Knauf are committed to reducing our environmental impact, being a responsible business, and acting with future generations in mind.

Our plasterboard products are made from gypsum, an infinitely recyclable material, and we continue to invest in our production processes and operations to reduce our emissions, save water in production, and reduce waste. We also prioritise safety, from within our operations, to the products and systems that we provide.

The Knauf group have clear, ambitious goals which we are working towards as a global business, including halving our scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2032 from a 2021 baseline, and reaching net zero by 2045. We are integrating ‘sustainability’ into our culture, our operations, and our solutions.

We also want to help our customers meet their sustainability goals, so not only do we offer innovative products like our ready-mixed sprayable Airless Finish as an alternative to traditional gypsum plaster, but we offer a fully managed Take Back Scheme with enhanced social value options, and we work with our customers to design out waste. We also have a range of distribution options available with our logistics partners, from BioLNG trucks, with an average emission saving of 96% compared to diesel, to train deliveries which saved us an average of 51% over equivalent road haulage in Scotland.

Our management systems are certified to ISO 14001 at both of our production sites, and we hold accreditation for responsible sourcing with BES 6001. We’re also proud to be a Gold member of the Supply Chain Sustainability School, demonstrating our commitment to educating our colleagues, and partnerships within our supply chain.
