With large windows and glass doors, there is an increased need to control heat, light, glare and privacy using different solar shading products. When considered by the architects early in the project (RIBA stage 2-3), windows, shaped windows and skylights can be prepared for concealed blinds by specifying the necessary space and prepare with electrical wiring. In this CPD we go through different design options to avoid retrofit solar shading products. By the end of the CPD you should have a greater understanding of: - The benefits of preparing for concealed blinds as part of sustainable architecture - How to specify solutions to control heat, light, glare, and privacy without impacting on the design - Solutions for glass doors, windows, shaped windows, skylights, and other specialty situations - Early project considerations to conceal blinds into building structure and where space might be needed - Inspiration from seeing many projects with concealed blinds

When considered early in a project, products for controlling heat, light, glare and privacy, can be incorporated into the most challenging window situations giving better results. This CPD demonstrates 12 challenging glazing areas and 12 different shading products, and their suitability in the different situations. The course provide an understanding also for when to engage a shading specialist early to ensure suitable provisions are made. By the end of the CPD you should have a greater understanding of: - Shading products available for gable ends and other challenging window situations - The benefits of preparing for concealed blinds as a solution to incorporate shading without impacting on the design - Early project considerations to conceal blinds into building structure and where space might be needed - Challenges and disadvantages when shading is not considered early in a project - The large number of projects with challenging window situations.
