OVERVIEW
Slip-Resistant Rooftop Walkways for One Southwark Bridge Road Solar Panel Maintenance in London
Innovative rooftop access solution featuring lightweight CUBE Oyster gratings, ensuring slip-resistant walkways and safe maintenance access to solar panels, all while minimizing installation time and costs.
The project criteria - Slip resistant maintenance walkway around PV (Photovoltaic) Cells
The objective for this project was to create 246m² of slip-resistant rooftop walkways providing safe access for maintenance of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels. The existing steel framework presented several challenges, particularly with clear spans exceeding 2.9 meters. Our goal was to design a lightweight solution, (CUBE 60 - 240mm/60mm + 20mm x 2mm planks fabricated into modules - 25kg/m2 - EPD 2.6kg CO2e/kg) that would not only meet these structural needs but also be economically viable while ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality.
The solution - PCP CUBE Gratings
To fulfil the project’s requirements, we proposed our PCP CUBE Oyster gratings, which offered a perfect solution for the rooftop walkway. Originally specified as twisted bar grating, the CUBE gratings could be customized to fit the existing spans, all while providing high PTV slip resistance to minimize the risk of slips and falls. The impressive strength-to-weight ratio of the CUBE gratings ensured that they remained lightweight, facilitating an efficient installation process without compromising safety.
Customer Support
Before fabrication began, we provided comprehensive technical support, including tailored load calculations and detailed panel drawings for client approval. This proactive approach helped to streamline the project and ensure that all specifications were met.
Customer comments
The project proceeded seamlessly from design through to installation. The adaptability of the CUBE grating significantly reduced the need for on-site trimming of steel, proving to be a highly cost-effective choice. The prefabricated units contributed to a quick and efficient installation process. Overall, this project showcased our commitment to providing a safe, economical, and timely solution for rooftop access.
The result
The rooftop walkways at One Southwark Bridge Road not only enhanced safety for maintenance personnel but also aligned with the modern aesthetic of the building. With a focus on efficiency and functionality, the project demonstrated how innovative design can effectively complement practical needs, ultimately contributing to a safer and more accessible environment for the upkeep of solar energy solutions.
