OVERVIEW
In 2016, two apartment buildings in Suzhou, China, comprising 600 units, faced the challenge of providing immediate and safe hot water to residents. The primary concern was the potential growth of Legionella bacteria in stagnant water within the extensive piping network.
Challenge
Ensuring a consistent supply of hot water across all apartments without delays, while mitigating the risk of Legionella proliferation, required an effective and reliable solution.
Solution
To address this, a comprehensive pipe tracing system was implemented using self-limiting heating cables. Approximately 10,000 meters of EChotwatt 55 cables were installed, averaging about 20 meters per apartment. These cables maintain the water at a temperature that prevents bacterial growth and ensures immediate hot water availability.
Outcome
The deployment of self-limiting heating cables effectively maintained the desired water temperature throughout the complex. This solution not only provided residents with instant access to hot water but also significantly reduced the risk of Legionella contamination, enhancing overall health and safety standards within the buildings.
This case exemplifies how modern electric heating technologies can be leveraged to meet the dual objectives of comfort and health in large residential settings.
