This winning combination is found throughout the space, drawing on clean lines and simplistic furniture to complete the brief. “The main reason we used Victorian ash is because it is a light coloured Australian timber that met the BAL-19 bushfire attack level requirement for the site. Hayward Field has always held a special place in the history and traditions of the University of Oregon, as well as for generations of athletes and fans in the state of Oregon and around the world. As the host site for the 2021 US Olympic Trials and the 2021 Track and Field World Championships, Hayward Field was primed for a 21st century “reimagining” on an epic scale.Understanding that the project’s aesthetic should extend to all areas of the venue, including the restrooms, the design team challenged ASI Group for a solution that aligned with the arena’s sophisticated design. They wanted the restrooms to offer athletes and fans the facilities necessary to maximize their experience, with an added focus on total privacy.ASI rose to the challenge, delivering 144 Alpaco™ Classic Overhead Braced Partitions, along with 36 urinal screens. The new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, home of the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United, welcomed 75,000 fans to Super Bowl LIII in a beautifully designed and environmental friendly facility that is devoted to providing the ultimate fan experience. The HOK-designed $1.5 billion stadium opened in August 2017, an architectural icon in the city’s impressive downtown skyline.Amid its extensive post-game coverage of the Super Bowl, ESPN.com’s NFL page featured a story by ESPN Senior Writer David Fleming detailing an important and little discussed aspect of watching a game live…the quality of stadium restrooms.In his article, Fleming quoted Mercedes-Benz Stadium GM Scott Jenkins as saying,“You add a restaurant or a walkway feature to the stadium, some people will use it, but everyone is going to use the restroom. So the functionality, the quantity, the aesthetics of your bathrooms is critical. It seems unremarkable to most people, but, trust me, you invite 70,000 people to your house and you get the bathrooms wrong — you’ve got a huge problem”…”That Toilet seat, is now just as important as your Super Bowl seat.”

Designed by Benson McCormack Architects and built by Hone Constructions. The curved glass elements seen at the ground level entry shopfronts and in the feature penthouse facades are key to the undulating design which becomes the signature for the “Wave” Apartments building. In particular the projecting curved façade at each end of the penthouse roof level is a major element of the architectural design and a feature that can be seen from afar. The sweep of the concrete rood appears to float above the skin of curved glass creating a dramatic visual effect.

Designed by Woods Bagot Pty Ltd and built by Lend Lease Group, BCG manufactured curved heat strengthened laminated glass panels for the feature stair to the entry lobby of the first completed commercial tower at Barangaroo – International Towers Sydney (ITS) 2. Working closely with Woods Bagot Architects and fabricators F & D Normoyle Engineering, BCG assisted with the fine tuning of the detail design. BCG’s precision bending and laminating processes provided the quality of finish and timely supply required to ensure the successful completion of the project.

Bent & Curved Glass manufactures high quality curved double-glazed units to a range of specifications. Curved glass can create a dramatic point of difference for projects where a streamlined, seamless design aesthetic is desired.

Designed and built by C Plus C Architectural Workshop. Large format curved glass panels up to 2400mm high x 3500mm girth have been manufactured by Bent & Curved Glass in a variety of glass types to meet the design requirements for thermal performance, privacy, night lighting effects while also maximising natural light and a sense of space and openness. Early consultation between architect, glass manufacturer and frame fabricator and a process of glass sampling, review and selection created the best project outcomes. The quality of these glass elements has made a significant contribution to the success of this exceptional project.

A common theme that has swarmed the United Kingdom is the renovation of office space. With a continuously growing workforce, cities across the country are transforming corporate workspaces into multi-level high-quality spaces. The demand for better-graded office space in the city of Glasgow is high. The magnificent development of 191 West George Street has created a vibrant buzz around the cultural city. Known as being within one of the most prominent positions within the City, 191 West George Street stands on the corner of West George Street and Wellington Street. The position encourages an easy commute for the workforce with transport links being a stone’s throw away from the development. Renovated with space and clarity in mind, the atrium stands out with its high-quality materials. The atrium was designed with a sleek set of Lifeline Speedlane Swings.

The new Student Center at Columbia College Chicago, located at 754 South Wabash Avenue in Chicago, opened its doors in the fall of 2019. This brand-new building offers five spectacular stories of spaces for students including music and film-screening rooms, dining options, a fitness centre, a reflection room for meditation and prayer, and event spaces for meetings, performances, and receptions. Columbia College Chicago has a closed campus. In order to enter any building on campus students and staff must have a Columbia ID or visitors must have a valid appointment. The main entrance at the Student Centre is the Tourniket manual revolving door that leads to a public foyer that includes a coffee shop and lounge. Since the speed gates are just past the security desk at the boundary of this area, they serve as a visual and physical indicator of where the public area terminates. Next to the Speedlane Open speed gates, which are notable because they do not have any closing barriers, guards watch as people pass through them to ensure that everyone is scanning their IDs and that the IDs are valid, in which case the speed gate shows a green light. In a situation where a red light shows and the gate alarms, the guard will check the person’s credentials and can try to troubleshoot the ID card. “The decision was really about what creates the least barrier to those entering and exiting the building,” said Dutil. “We don't really want our students to feel like they are overly policed or that our buildings are not accessible to them. So the design of the Open speed gates provided the best solution in terms of controlling access without being obtrusive." Swift Passage While Maintaining Accountability Before the Student Center was built, students entering any campus building would just show their ID to the security officer as they walked past. The administration realised that while this does provide some level of security, it is not foolproof – particularly when many people are entering at the same time for a class. The College’s head of security made the suggestion to install a system that would allow for swift passage of authorised people while maintaining accountability around who enters and exits the building. As anticipated, there was a brief learning curve for the students using the new system. “This was the first system like this on our campus,” said Dutil. “And the first few days that the new Centre was open were also the first few days of school. There were a lot of people new to the campus who required a bit of coaching from guards and our student staff in terms of where to place your card, and to not walk through before you place your card.” Coming Out Ahead of Swinging Doors Dutil confirms that the access systems placed at Boon Edam speed gates are actually outperforming those placed at swing doors across the campus for convenience and adoption. Across the campus, there is a card reader at every swing door entrance of a building where you present your card and a light turns red or green. But oftentimes the card reader is missed, or depending on the placement of the lights and placement of the guard, it can be kind of hit or miss with students walking right by it. “But with the Open speed gates, they're very visible and although they're not a total barrier to entry, they are something that's right in front of you. Because it's very noticable and not easily overlooked, the students have learned pretty quickly to get their ID out. In fact, this was meant to be a test run for the campus to ensure it would be viable and worthwhile for other buildings as well.” Advanced Features Add Value and Flexibility The speed gates have delivered additional benefits beyond basic campus security, according to Dutil. “One of the nice things about a system like this is that we can count visitors to the Student Centre because we get the data of everybody that scans in. So on a busy day for us it's about 2500 people throughout the day. That can range depending on what's going on and what time of year it is. On weekends we're very slow, since there are no classes – maybe 900 to 1200.” “We are a rental venue as well, so we have times where the building is open to non-Columbia College Chicago people for events or other functions. There's a really convenient touch panel right at the security desk called the BoonTouch, where the officer can turn off the turnstiles during those times and then attendees can move through freely without any alarms going off at all.” A New Revolving Door Adds Comfort and Peace of Mind Finally, the Tourniket manual revolving door delivers one additional benefit to the Student Centre, located in a city known for harsh weather. “Revolving doors are always preferred at a building like this that gets a lot of traffic going in and out. We have cold, drafty weather that blows right into our main space at that first floor entry. The revolving door helps to keep the building warm and saves energy and utility costs as well,” said Dutil. “Students feel safe and comfortable entering the building at night,” he concludes. “Our building has a lot of nooks and crannies, and someone can end up alone in a space. And so I think knowing that the only people that are in that building are the ones that are supposed to be there is helpful. Overall, our students appreciate the effort to try to keep them safer.”

Launching its first clothing store back in 1969, the affordable yet innovative fashion retailer offers shoppers a unique shopping experience with its staple large stores, airy layouts and competitive item pricing. Calling it a ‘workplace of the future’ the new UK HQ spans over 130,000sq ft of redesigned space that homes 580+ employees. The challenge in this project was to unobtrusively implement secured entry solutions that could be stylish in appearance but also provide high-quality functionality. Social Open Space with State-of-the-Art Security With the overall theme being togetherness, collaboration and open workspace, there was a requirement for the building to be secured yet keep the spacious feeling. The challenge in this project was to unobtrusively implement secured entry solutions that could be stylish in appearance but also provide high-quality functionality. The entry solution was to implement a bespoke revolving door, combining a Crystal Tourniket and a framed Tourniket. This customised door benefits from a hidden fully automatic drive in the ceiling that also provides LED down lighting for better user visibility. Jewel on the Gold Coast (Jewel), a luxury development of three crystalline towers constructed on the internationally renowned Surfers Paradise beachfront, Gold Coast. Jewel consists of 513 apartments and a 169-room luxury hotel – a first of its kind on the Gold Coast. The towers with their distinctive glass curtain walling system, are the result of a collaboration between Oppenheim Architects and DBI Design. The fundamental design concept drew inspiration from three smoky quartz crystals that we discovered in the region. Jewel is inspired by the crystalline volcanic hook that forms the underlying structure at the coastline and, in particular, the Gold Coast’s iconic hinterland. Multiplex was awarded this prestigious project and commenced construction of this billion-dollar development in 2016. The Jewel is Australia’s largest beachfront mixed-use development and the first absolute beachfront development on the Gold Coast in more than thirty years. Tilecorp Pty Ltd. was awarded the tiling contract on the project that included the installation of 600 x 300 mm porcelain tiles in the public areas, travertine in the apartments, penny round mosaics on the walls in the public amenities, and cobblestone in the outdoor areas.

AQURON 1000 penetrating hydrogel treatment was applied to the warehouse floor slabs for curing, sealing and deep hardening for durability.The slabs were poured in very high temperatures. The hydrogel treatment helped preserve the curing quality.This project was Green Star rated. AQURON 1000 is licenced to use the Environmental Choice New Zealand ecolabel, which is recognised by the Green Building Councils of Australia and New Zealand.

Rondo supplied the Drywall Framing System in the construction of Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi, which is the world’s largest indoor theme park ­– including wall heights that ranged from 9 meters and above.

The initial project had been executed in August 2017. Customising the building with KEY-LOCK Suspended Ceiling System, particularly Rondo 155 Furring Chanel which is 48mm wide, and required perforated plasterboard to be attached. Bulkheads, soffit areas and external walls were designed by the Rondo Engineering team.

The tower corridors to the hotel rooms followed a slight curve and the Rondo Technical Services Team were engaged to provide many engineered designs for both internal and external wall framings, as well as internal ceilings and external soffit framings. This included Stud & Track, MAXIframe External Wall Framing System, EXANGLE Finishing Sections and PANTHER Access Panels, all needed to meet the detail required throughout the tower and podium levels.

Working with the site contractor, Expoconti, Rondo supplied products for the project, provided design work, and conducted weekly site inspections. Rondo’s technical assistance allowed for the designs to be simplified, which in turn provided a more cost effective approach.

In excess of 125,000 Lineal Meters of Rondo product will be used in this multimillion dollar project: special custom lengths of Steel Stud and Track, KEY-LOCK Concealed Suspended Ceiling Systems and Rondo MAXIjamb (jamb stud).

With a demand for leading scientific research facilities growing year upon year, the South Australian Government commissioned the development of the South Australian Health & Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). Since the project commenced in 2010, Rondo has supplied our KEY-LOCK Suspended Ceiling System, Steel Stud and Track, DUO Exposed Grid Ceiling System, PANTHER Access Panels, Shaftwall and Walk-About Trafficable Ceiling System.

This project proved to be quite a challenge for LCJ Engineers and Rondo to design, due to the very high wind loads together with wall heights up to 4.2m, which resulted in having back to back 150mm studs at 300mm centres. This project was nicknamed “Steel City” and from viewing the images, you can see why.

Regular onsite inspections in conjunction with the contractor Arc Plaster helped us to forecast any further products required for the project and ensure the project was delivered smoothly.
