It never ceases to amaze us what a difference a new finish makes to wood cladding. We have recently had a customer who was in desperate need of a makeover for cedar clad garden office & gym.Roger at R and A Pressure Washing has given us another great case study to show you and we think it’s looking amazing. When the office was installed 2 years previously, the customer had used Seasonite new wood protection to protect and stabilise the new wood. The wood therefore needed a good clean before a finish could be applied, as you can see:Now they wanted to complete the look and were straight back to Owatrol products with the help of Roger!Firstly, he applied Net-TrolBy using this powerful and fast acting wood cleaner and brightener, Roger was able to restore the natural colour of the cedar cladding and decking and clean it quickly and easily. Before starting work, Roger masked off all the areas of the building which he didn’t want to be treated.Net-Trol is non-aggressive and is harmless to plants, so Roger didn’t need to worry about it damaging the grass next to the garden office.Firstly, he wet the cladding and the Southern Yellow Pine decking with fresh, clean water.They then applied Net-Trol with a synthetic roller and then scrubbed the surface with a stiff synthetic brush.After leaving it to stand for around 15 minutes, the customer then scrubbed the surface whilst simultaneously rinsing it with water. You could also use a pressure washer, max. 60 bar.If the surface starts to dry while you’re leaving the Net-Trol to work, simply mist it with some water.If you want, you can repeat the procedure but in this case, the client did not have to.The customer then left the cladding and decking to dry for 48 hours before applying the finish.Next, Aquadecks was appliedA water-based penetrating wood finish that provides advanced UV protection, Aquadecks was the ideal choice to revive and protect this customer’s cladding and decking.One of the great things about Aquadecks is that maintenance is easy, with no sanding or stripping required.Roger applied a liberal amount of Aquadecks. He worked in sections that he could complete within 30 minutes, working in the direction of the grain.After the ‘wet look’ of the first application disappeared, he then applied a second coat of Aquadecks. He then allowed it to penetrate for 15-20 minutes.Roger then wiped away any excess Aquadecks that had not penetrated. This avoided it drying in shiny spots on the surface of the cladding.Aquadecks comes in a variety of colours but in this case the customer chose a Honey tint, which we think looks stunning.By using Net-Trol and Aquadecks, Roger has given his customer’s garden office and gym a makeover that has brought the building and adjacent decking back to life.

Within London’s sought-after area of Victoria is situated the architecturally cutting edge commercial and residential development, Howick Place.This 143,000sq ft. of Grade A office space and 23 luxury apartments is a flagship development by joint developers Doughty Hanson & Co and Terrace Hill Group PLC. The building is modern, stylish and full of light due to its impressive floor to ceiling windows delivering a perfect working space for the luxury brands it has already attracted. Responsible for the impressive design were Rolfe Judd Architects. Not only did they want to create an exterior that that was visually stunning but also an interior that show modern design at its best.This inspirational working environment had to make an immediate impact with potential occupant’s right from the moment they step in to the expansive reception area to rinsing their hands in the washrooms. To help achieve this Rolfe Judd appointed Sylan to supply and install their modern and luxurious washroom products so the building represented the highest quality craftsmanship no matter where you are in the building.When discussing the importance of a quality washroom fit out project architect Andrew Wall said: “Our clients are becoming increasingly concerned with the quality of their washroom facilities. More and more people are cycling to work in the city and so we needed washroom and changing areas that met our client’s high standards”.Sylan's Real Wood Veneer toilet cubicles were specified for the washrooms. With 44mm Real Wood Veneer doors and totally invisible fixings, Sylan was the perfect choice for this project given that quality was such an important factor:“We were very impressed with the Sylan system. We needed a totally bespoke system and Sylan gave us just that. We needed flexibility from our cubicle choice so we could achieve the level of detail required for this project”.Being offset against contemporary Lime Stone Vanity Units, also supplied by Sylan, the cubicles gave the perfect contrast between the traditional and the modern.To further enhance this cutting edge design Glass Duct Panels were also installed in the washrooms. THE PROJECTShard place is the latest phase of the redevelopment at Shard quarter, home to Western Europe’s tallest building – the Shard. Designed by world-renowned master architect Renzo Piano, the new Shard place is the residential development. Stone: LUNDHS Blue® - silk surface.Situated on a small island outside the coast of southern Norway, the owners of this lovely summerhouse have moved the kitchen outside. The well planned combination of wood and Lundhs Blue stone is in total harmony with the natural surroundings.

This large project installed DYNAMIK Komfort Elite in their Performance Sports Hall, Fitness Studios and Multi-Use Sports Hall. Complementing the floor they chose DYNAMIK Solid and Acoustic (Perforated) Sports Wall panels in Galiano Oak CPL wood-effect finish.

For the new office of one of the UK’s leading healthcare specialists, workplace interior design specialists, ID:SR – Sheppard Robson, specified the natural beauty of Forbo Flooring Systems’ Allura Flex Wood Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) to help ‘bring the outside in’.  Occupying the first and second floor of a new seven-storey Grade A office building in Leeds, the healthcare specialist has brought over 250 staff together into one co-located environment. Expertly designed by ID:SR, the 25,000 sq ft space comprises a variety of agile work and social settings to support a range of activities, a dedicated client reception, meeting suite and lounge.   “To support employee wellbeing, the office also engages with the principles of biophilic design, so we incorporated natural looking materials where possible to emphasise the connection between people and nature. The beautiful and realistic wood effect of Forbo’s Allura Flex Wood LVT supported this idea of bringing the outside in. Offering convincing, authentic visuals and excellent functional performance, we used the finish in prominent positions of the office as we felt the flooring supported the overall concept of the scheme.”  Allura Flex Wood in the Weathered Oak colourway was fitted in a herringbone pattern with bursts of Seaweed Solid Oak, Charcoal Solid Oak and Smoke Solid Oak in the main reception and staff breakout areas. Thanks to its tackified installation, the high quality, dimensionally stable Allura Flex tiles provides answers to key issues such as limiting valuable downtime, the re-use of floors and minimising environmental impact, perfect for busy office spaces.  What’s more, Surestep Material in Cool Concrete was specified in the kitchenette of the staff breakout area, where there is an increased risk of slip. The safety flooring combines outstanding slip resistant properties with differentiated design and through the use of Step Crystals, the natural colourway offers a clean, fresh look and improved cleaning and maintenance properties. The PUR Pearl finish ensures that it is stain and chemical resistant.  

Milliken's Arctic Survey, Isotherm design was specified for this modern and sophisticated workplace. This textural plank carpet, with Comfort Plus cushion backing was chosen in the cool, calming greys of Antarctic and Snow caves to work perfectly with the natural woods and green planting in this inspirational design scheme.

The DYNAMIK Komfort Elite Play is an A4 area elastic floor system finished in Oak to provide a classic wood floor finish with all the benefits of a sprung system. Combined with DYNAMIK Acoustic Sports Wall panels the finished result shows a stylish Sports Hall.

The designers for the new offices in Atherstone, Warwickshire focused on creating a building that would be in tune both with its rural surroundings and also with the inventive and artistic profession of the occupants. The premises are the headquarters and design studio for a well known video game development company.The design of the building is based on a large barn with attractive contemporary wooden panelling and external posts and beams. Running alongside these posts and beams is dramatic bespoke aerofoil solar shading and weather louvres.As a perfect colourful contrast for offsetting the wood, ‘Copper Mine’ - gives the effect of patinated copper or Verdigris. The project comprises of 475 linear metres of 170mm elliptical aerofoil blades.The final effect of the blue/green aerofoil fins set against the wood is stunning as the images show. ‘Copper Mine’ is a textured finish and will give a pleasing variation in shade as sunlight moves across its surface

Trespa® Meteon® NW02 Elegant Oak is chosen for the Berkeley House project in Wothorpe. A new departure for a traditional builder who wanted a crisp modern appearance yet using materials with a traditional nature. The use of Wood decors gives a warm elegance to the façade.

The Adelaide Convention Centre ACC celebrated 30 years in operation in 2017 with the opening of the last phase of its expansion, the East Building, designed by architects Woods Bagot. The building is faceted like rocks and clad in elZinc® Rainbow Red to reflect the South Australian landscape.

McFarlane Latter Architects were looking for a contemporary interior design scheme filled with biophilic colours and natural woodgrains.

Penny Hydraulics has partnered with design and operations consultancy Bryden Wood on an ambitious and ground-breaking construction project for pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline which has resulted in estimated construction cost savings of 30% and a build time reduction of two months when compared to traditional building methods.

Located 140 km north of Oslo, Mjøstårnet is tallest cross laminated timber (CLT) building in the world and is celebrated by the international construction industry as a first-class engineering achievement.

Lightweight but very strong mounting profileCHALLENGEStraight lines, maximum light and a unique, remarkable design. This is how independent architect Lieze Vandael saw her own home. Due to the numerous voids and imposing windows up to 9 meters high, a traditional construction method was certainly not an option. A suitable alternative had to be found. Moreover, Lieze Vandael wanted to see the elegant, minimalist architectural style with straight lines envelop the building: a roof and façade finish in the same material - preferably timber - and moreover, seamlessly blending into each other. To have the building completely wrapped in wood. Definitely a real challenge! A neat and watertight connection between roof and façade is not an easy job at all. Besides, timber is never completely waterproof. So, the challenge for Lieze Vandael was to combine the roof and the façade into one uniform surface, ensuring a perfectly watertight roof.SOLUTIONArchitect Vandael wanted to step away from the traditional lightframe wood structure, and opted for an alternative mass timber construction: a load-bearing construction formed from tongue and groove stacked solid wood beams. After all, this type of construction creates a lot of possibilities and is, besides, a more durable and ecological solution. For the exterior finish of the building the architect chose thermowood Ayous, a knot-free, clear-grade exotic hardwood providing excellent durability. The façade was finished with thermowood in a traditional way. Finishing the roof, however, was a more complex task. Cladding a roof with timber, particularly a highly sloped roof poses a substantial risk. How to achieve a watertight roof?

As part of the development at Riverside Sunderland, Brims Construction are carrying out the work at the former Gilbridge Police Station site. During the works, Helmsman were asked to supply some lockers. The client requested Heavy Duty lockers with a wood effect finish, alongside a bespoke vanity cupboard with vanity shelf. 

Junckers solid wood flooring has been installed at Spanish City in Whitley Bay as part of major refurbishment works. Architects ADP brought the seaside pleasure building back to its former glory by carefully restoring original decorative features in the Grade II listed building. The works included revealing the magnificent dome in the rotunda by removing a mezzanine floor, restoring the triple height ceiling to create a large, circular space. The grand room required a complimentary floor and the choice fell on Junckers’ Black Oak, which has been fitted in a striking concentric dodecagon pattern. Installed by Junckers’ Approved Contractor Stenhouse Flooring, the project features mitred joints which require a high level of skill and experience. Junckers’ solid wood flooring was also installed in several other areas in the building, which now includes bars, shops, restaurants and a suite of rooms for events, conferences and weddings.
