London Wall Place
EFFISUS
London Wall Place is a new development, with more than 500.000m2, located in the heart of London, between Moorgate and Barbican. This development is comprised by two commercial buildings and will add a large green area to the city. The largest building has about 300.000m2 and rises to a height of 12 floors, and the remaining building, with about 12.000m2, has 16 floors. For this project’s façade weatherproofing, three Effisus solutions were used: Effisus VAP (vapour barrier), Effisus Breather+ (breathable membrane) and Effisus 2Bond DS (double-sided solution for sealing between two surfaces).
Wall Protection - Nottingham Free School

The school underwent a complete refurbishment in September 2015 and chose
to use a very pale blue paint scheme throughout most of the building. Within 3
months the areas within the school that see heavy traffic, including corridors and
the dining hall had begun to show signs of scuffing and wear, due to the pupils knocking against the walls with their bags. The site manager at the school was concerned by the level of damage and began to consider wall protection products to combat the problem.
Gradus supplied and fitted the school with wall protection solutions to prevent further damage.

This project saw untreated Welsh Larch used in 2 of our standard profiles.
All the Horizontal Cladding installed on the project was our Double Chamfer/ Rhombus profile, NWCC1. The Vertical Cladding being supplied in the form of our T&G NWC2 board.
Both of these profiles are machined from an Ex 25 x 150mm section size, to the grading criteria of Western Larch as specified by the Architect at Aedas/AHR. Over time this timber will weather to the silver/ grey that can be expected of from Larch.

A contractor client was working on a retro-fit balcony and flat roof project in Brighton.
The waterproofing membrane had tapered insulation placed on top and the contractor discovered ballasting the insulation was needed, only once on the roof.
The door thresholds were too tight for a traditional decking system with joists.
Wallbarn advised for paving slabs on 9mm rubber pads; then 30mm thick ipe timber tiles mounted onto Adjustable Pedestals.
The buildup was under 100mm and the overall finish of the tropical hardwood was glorious.
The architect was relieved that we could produce a solution, the client was delighted.

The University launched ambitious new plans for a £40 million state-of-the-art Collaborative Teaching Laboratory (CTL) to facilitate the teaching of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects.Our work for the project included the supply of approximately 684m2 of Soundis Absorb-R timber wall panels. The client opted for a combination of 8/3m Absorb-R WoodTec Grooved and Soundis Absorb-R WooTec Perforated 2/2/0.5 Perforated panels. This combination of the two styles creates a stylish yet elegant finish.Black panels were chosen for the walls and white panels for the railing areas, the contrast of the colours further promoting that modern style for the university.The old choice between Engineering-led functionality, and beautiful design not longer applies. Cutting-edge new technologies allow solid wood panels and multi-layer panels to be micro perforated to serve as highly effective sound absorbing cladding. Panel textures can also be tailored to serve project requirements.

Essex University - The Pastures

The campus in Colchester, which is home to 15,000 students, is undergoing a massive phased transformation. Benx-RCM are currently supplying into phase three of the campus-build, known as The Pastures.Split across five new buildings, The Pastures will bring an additional 1,262 student bedrooms to the Colchester campus. One of these blocks will create a new hub which will include a reception, a post room, an administrative area and a student services centre, along with a laundrette and staff welfare facilities.Overseeing this £168 million project as main contactor is Bouygues Construction.Stanta were awarded the SFS infill package at the site. As part of this package, Benx RCM were selected to supply Y-Wall external sheathing board for the entire project.Y-Wall is a flexible calcium silicate based fibre cement building board, offering excellent fire properties as well as high levels of dimensional stability. The Y-Wall BBA Certification provided the Stanta project team with assurance that this building board solution has been tested to exacting standards, evaluated onsite, as well as undergoing a life expectancy assessment and a quality management system review.Y-Wall was utilised to create a sheathing for the five high rise structures. In buildings with storeys more than 18m above ground level, any products used in the external wall construction should be of limited combustibility. Being a non-combustible, A1 fire-rated building board, utilising BS EN ISO 1182 and BS EN ISO 1716 tests, Y-Wall is the optimum solution for a project of this type and size.In specifying the building board for this project it was important to ensure the optimum racking performance to enhance structural strength. Y-Wall conforms to European Norm - BS EN 594:2011 - the certification which proves the system has been rigorously tested and offers excellent racking performance, structural strength and stability.Specifying a building board that is fully tested to BS EN 1062-1 allows for adequate moisture resistance and durability. Y-Wall fully complies with this standard which ensures the building boards will have a life equal to that of the building. Selecting a building board with good external performance and durability is important, particularly through the build phase, as the product may be left exposed for several months prior to a secondary facade being installed over the top of the system. In order to generate speed and ease of construction, Y-Wall was supplied pre-cut to specified panel sizes. The fabrication work was undertaken by Benx Façades at its dedicated facility, to ensure a seamless process.
Accoya cladding for residence in McCormacks Bay, New Zealand

Accoya was chosen for its long-lasting benefits which are required for demanding coastal settings such as these.
Accoya was also selected as the ideal weatherboard material for the Christchurch residence due to its exterior, above ground guarantee of 50 years.
Accoya wood was used for all the Bevelback weatherboards which clad the building and are finished using black Dulux matt paint. Accoya was selected as the perfect fit for this type of weatherboarding, which is renowned to combine stability and durability in every project.
The British Museum

The British Museum opened its doors in 1759. Now home to some 8 million works from a number of different cultures, the museum stands as an iconic London attraction. The Museum made the decision in November 2013 to replace the restaurant’s old flooring, as it could no longer handle the vast number of visitors. W B Simpson Ltd, was the chosen tiling contractor to complete the new installation. Marc Poland, Director at W B Simpson Ltd said “The architect consulting on this project specified we use ARDEX UK’s products. Their high performance adhesives are typically the preferred choice of architects.”

Oakland Mews is a 21-plot residential development set within the village of Strumpshaw, Norfolk. Based on the site of a former factory, this high-quality development of detached and semi-detached dwellings delivers modern, spacious living, respectfully designed and crafted to the very highest specification using quality materials, including Hampton Rural Blend brick and Cradley Brick Specials, produced by Forterra.Aware of the site’s historic significance and agricultural location, the contractor, Total Build East Anglia Ltd, committed to using traditional materials and building methods that were in keeping with the area and delivered on its vision to bring an appealing and exclusive development to Strumpshaw.Total Build East Anglia Ltd consulted building materials supplier MKM Building Supplies Norwich to help find the appropriate bricks and tiles for the houses. It wanted a traditional red-brick style, which matched the look of a former factory that occupied the site previously and preserved the area’s heritage. Total Build selected the stock-thrown Hampton Rural Blend brick for the facing brick walls. The rustic red brick, tarnished with blackened flashes, perfectly complements the slate grey Cradley Brick Specials copings and cappings, and the dark timber cladding on the properties.Hampton Rural Blend is part of Forterra’s Ecostock range of pressed and thrown bricks manufactured at its Measham factory, which uses ground-breaking technology in sustainability and production efficiency to deliver advanced colour consistency, dimensional accuracy and quality.“An old factory used to be on the site of the development,” said Jason Hilldrup, Brick, Block, Tile and Architectural Masonry Specialist at MKM Norwich. “It was an attractive, traditional red-brick building, directors Andy Brown and Lindsey George of Total Build wanted to ensure the new development was in keeping with what had been there previously.“We reviewed some options together, looking for a brick that looked old and traditional, and they went for the Hampton Rural Blend facing brick and black-slate coloured Cradley Specials copings and cappings. The combination of the two flowed together nicely, and for the price and style, the bricks ticked all their boxes. The bricklayers and cream-coloured mortar choices have been great too. It’s come together really nicely, creating a fantastic site that has modern touches but keeps the traditional style.”

A busy facility, Netherfield medical centre recently contracted Style to design and install moveable wall solutions that would allow both the reception area and staff room to be quickly divided into smaller working spaces, as required. Transforming the use of the facilities, the two Stylefold folding walls allow the rooms to be divided at a moment’s notice, opening-up options as to how the internal space is utilised. With 46dB Rw acoustics, the walls create an effective screen, offering privacy when in situ. Intensely practical, both walls have a clinical white thermopal finish, complementing the modern interior of the medical centre.

The 2014 Commonwealth Games’ swimming competition was played out at Tollcross International Swimming Centre. In anticipation of the games, the centre’s facilities underwent a complete refurbishment. Some of the screed below the tiles on the main competition pool floor had separated from the concrete pool tank. The entire floor needed to be re-laid. Glasgow City Council Scott hired, Tilecraft, a specialist tiling works company that delivers high quality tiles, to lay the tiles and specified products from ARDEX UK. A fast track solution which would produce high quality results was needed, and ARDEX UK seemed the logical choice.

Perdiswell Leisure Centre - Worcester

Worcester has invested in a new £10m swimming pool as part of the city’s Perdiswell Leisure Centre refurbishment.
RCM supplied the colourful Trespa® Meteon® cladding panels to the project, which were used on the outside of the pool area and entrance. RCM also supplied the colour-matched fixings and associated trims and the aluminium support frame system to this worthy project.
Metal roof and cladding coating using Liqausil's BBA Approved Metalseal

Metalseal 20 was specified to re-brand a small industrial estate in Swindon.
Roofs and external cladding were all stripped of existing finishes using vapour blasting.
Cut edge corrosion was treated using SWT Primer and all metal surfaces were coated with BBA Approved Metalseal 20 roof & cladding coating.
The finish is now graffiti proof, with any graffiti simply washing off with water, with no ghosting residue.

An expanding brand of modern eateries are enjoying the versatility of Technowood’s ability to adjust with this changing restaurant environment.An existing client since 2009 has enjoyed the qualities of TechnoWood cladding; for many of the chain restaurant facilities that it has in its portfolio.The client did say “a friend of mine laughed the other day when he said – you should have used Technowood instead of that solid wood.” He said this to the MD of Technowood… they then both laughed.The goal of the designer in charge of the group has created a serene social destination for local visitors. Our design motto being ‘’Design a Vision, Make an Impression, Create an Experience’’The Café element features 2 floors with the usable space spread over 827 square metres; the terrace flows from inside to out thus creating this multi-use space for all weathers.Vertical pilasters in varying forms, all designed and fabricated off site by technood to facilitate a rapid installation where labour is reduced. Cladding in the main is a simple click to install system. Controlling Penetrating Water in Cavity Walls

A systematic approach of arresting and reducing the flow of water within a cavity wall prior to any change in status of that wall helps balance demands on damp protection measures.
In the case of a circular window passing through a curved cavity wall, protecting against damp ingress is easily achieved using a preformed Type K cavitray.
The preformed Cavitray is curved to match the wall. Conventional flat material or roll material cannot uniformly match the radius of a wall.
NHS Langdon Hospital - Dawlish

In January 2008, the Devon Partnership NHS Foundation Trust approved plans for a major redevelopment of the Langdon Hospital site based in Dawlish.
RCM were appointed by the NHS to provide the Renderflex building board – a high performance cellulose fibre cement render carrier board and Y-Wall
– a calcium silicate board on the inner leaf of the wall construction. The client specified robust walls in all areas, especially within the patient wards, which
made RCM’s boards ideal for the project.

21 new energy efficient homes featuring Accoya wood cladding were completed for Eildon Housing Association at Tweedbank, Melrose in the Scottish Borders in 2007. Eildon chose Accoya wood after learning of the product’s aesthetic & durable qualities. More than 11,000 linear metres was used, finished with a quality Sikkens coating by Environmental Coatings.
After more than 3 years in situ, there are no signs of wood or coating degradation & colour retention is excellent.

Our double point movable walls allow the panels to stack away in a concealed recessed pocket to give a clear room and flexible spaces. The chosen finish was foamed backed 12mm stretched fabric Kvadrat. Colour name: Remix 3 123 both sides (flame retardancy) with concealed edge profiles, therefore giving the finest attention to detail. Structure opening was 4.5m wide and 2.7m high and consisted of 3 standard panels and 1 telescopic closure panel. The chosen acoustic sound reduction was our 50dB acoustic laboratory construction. Biotecture’s impressive 93m2 green wall for the atrium of British Gas owner, Centrica’s new Oxford headquarters was an integrated element of the ambitious sustainability aims for the building; the green wall, which reaches three storeys up, contributed to the building’s BREEAM rating of 'Excellent', acting as acoustic buffer and a natural filter to improve air quality.

Calibre based in Warrington provide the food industry with food testing technology to ensure quality and safety. Calibre are all about exceeding standards and quality and they needed their environment to do that too.
The walls of their testing labs walls used to be painted in white. They soon became very dusty and dirty making the environment look unhygienic and uninviting to their clients and staff.

Offering a futuristic office environment, Vedanta Resources Ltd, the global mining and metals company, has totally re-vamped their London HQ. Helping transform the offices, partitioning experts Style added flexibility to the space with a combination of advanced operable wall systems.
Two 54dB Rw acoustic moveable walls form a corridor, creating a stunning hall of mirrors with pass doors into spacious meeting rooms. Three Skyfold Zenith vertical-rising walls divide those rooms into smaller work areas. An additional partition splits the main boardroom, creating work space for the chairman. The entire area can be opened out for large corporate functions.
