Peregrine Bryant were appointed to design a scheme for Stationers Hall to improve access and rationalise the internal layouts to enhance the building as a function space. The building, located near St Paul’s Cathedral, has a history that stretches back to before the Great Fire of London and any work requires a lot of co-ordination as parts of the complex range from Grade I listed to Ancient Scheduled Monuments.3v were asked to provide a full hardware service for this historic building which included scheduling all new and existing doors, rationalising ironmongery throughout and undertaking a full review of fire requirements. All new ironmongery was finished in antique brass with the exception of the toilet areas which use a split finish of antique brass externally and satin stainless steel internally. The main task was to ensure there was more continuity in the ironmongery used throughout the building so that it complimented both the aesthetics of the building and the function as an events space.

Stunning Sylan High Pressure Laminate installed at 100 Embankment, Manchester.Located on the site of Manchester’s historic Exchange Station and overlooking the city’s Cathedral, 100 Embankment is a £65 million development brought to life by main contractors BAM Construction.The 9 storey, 166,000sq ft BREEAM Excellent Grade A office building sits alongside its sister building, 101 Embankment. Together they have created a new civic centre for Salford by attracting new businesses, boosting jobs, growth and investment within the city centre.Sylan worked closely with BAM Construction and local installers TBS Fabrications, to ensure that the vision of Flanagan Lawrence architects was brought to life. No area of the prestigious building was overlooked with Sylan being selected for the washrooms for the whole 9 floors.Sylan in High Pressure Laminate was chosen for both the male and female toilets throughout the building. With invisible fixings and 44mm thick doors the cubicles ooze style and elegance. The mortice lock machined flush into the door and pilaster rebates, alongside the flush fronted finish ensures privacy for users, whilst adding to the luxurious feel of the washrooms themselves.With 34 laminate colours to choose from, Flanagan Lawrence went with a classic and neutral colour scheme. Charcoal was selected for the fronts of the cubicles with Ash lipping, alongside Linen partitions. The Sylan washroom cubicles were complemented with co-ordinating High Pressure Laminate IPS Ducting also in Linen.Bespoke Mirror Box Units with LED strips were supplied to both sets of washrooms adding a functional and atmospheric element. Flooring specialists Laceys Floors and Walls have used UltraFloor Level IT Hydra Bond to install 170sqm of flooring at Rushcliffe Country Park.BackgroundGreen Flag award winners since 2007, Rushcliffe Country Park is a popular visitor attraction in Nottinghamshire. Work is currently underway to renovate the visitor centre including staff office and toilets.The ChallengeExpert flooring specialists, Laceys Floors and Walls were the contractors commissioned to install 170sqm of flooring throughout the visitor centre. To complete the installation, Laceys Floors and Walls needed subfloor materials that would provide a super smooth finish to avoid any trip hazards and would withstand constant trafficking of visitors.The SolutionTo begin, Laceys Floors and Walls applied DPM IT damp proof membrane across the entire 170sqm area. DPM IT is a two component, solvent free epoxy resin system for use as a surface damp proof membrane. Designed to provide protection against subfloor moisture, DPM IT has a pot life of 45 – 75 minutes, a cure time of 5 hours and boasts a 98% RH floor moisture tolerance.Once fully cured, the team applied UltraFloor’s latest product innovation, Level IT Hydra Bond to a depth of 3-5mm.Level IT Hydra Bond is a super polymer modified smoothing compound which utilises UltraFloor’s unique technology – a process which enhances application and boasts unrivalled flow properties. What’s more, each bag of Level IT Hydra Bond also contains 20% recycled material.In addition, Level IT Hydra Bond can receive bonded floor coverings after 4 hours, has an extended working time of 45 minutes for optimal usability, and is moisture tolerant and protein free.To complete the project, Polysafe Wood FX and Verona flooring was installed throughout the visitor centre, office and toilets.ResultsThe flooring was installed with ease and Rushcliffe County Park’s exciting new visitor centre is due to open later this year.“Level IT Hydra Bond was a real pleasure to work with. Work has been advancing on the new Southern Remand Centre at the Risdon Prison site in Tasmania with the cooperation of Dart Valley Systems. The redevelopment of Yatala Prison in South Australia is supporting the advancement of the state’s public prison structure, reinforcing the security and reducing the rate of offending. Care Spaces played a crucial role in enhancing the living conditions of a private client, referred to as Mr B, who had experienced a spinal injury leading to a loss of physical independence. Collaborating with an architect to design a bespoke extension, we focused on the bedroom and bathroom to cater to his specific needs. The centrepiece of the design was an XY ceiling track hoist with a magnetic transition gate system, facilitating safe transfers between the bedroom and bathroom. Care Spaces also recommended bathroom equipment tailored to Mr B's needs, including a washer/dryer toilet, a static-height hand basin, and an Avero care bath with an air spa system for therapeutic benefits. With Mr B's approval, we oversaw the installation of the hoist system and bathroom equipment, provided necessary training, and ensure routine servicing for optimal functionality. Mr B is now delighted with his improved living space, and Care Spaces remains committed to maintaining the excellence of his care equipment.

IssueWavendon Community Hub has been created and designed to provide local residents with a place to meet and take part in physical and social activities. In keeping with surrounding properties, Wavendon Community Hub is constructed in red/buff brick, with pitched tiled roofs. The building comprises two separate halves: a community side with a vaulted hall space and a separate, large multi-purpose area with changing facilities. The floors needed to perform for different needs and uses, providing robust durability, safety from slips, but still provide welcoming good looks.ApproachThe project was designed by W E Architecture Ltd and the build was completed by Borras Construction Ltd, with flooring installed throughout by HC Coverings Ltd, using Mapei floor preparation products.SolutionResilient flooring was specified throughout the centre and installed over underfloor heating. Shower and changing facilities bind practicality and design at this new-build office development in Smithfield. At The Haymarket Building, practicality meets excellent design, and Architects Reddy Architecture + Urbanism have created a sophisticated space that the tenants can be proud of. The building is accessed via an impressive double-height lobby, and this grandeur is maintained throughout the entire building, including the washrooms.Split over two floors, the basement houses a gym and self-contained male and female changing rooms with a separate toilet block on the upper basement level. Venesta’s Unity Full Height cubicle range was the product of choice for the designers of this project, due to its versatility.Model Z Active 400mm Bench Lockers were specified for both the male and female changing rooms. The unique Z-shaped locker provides space for storing bags and hanging clothes and has the benches integrated into the locker units saving on floor space for a minimalist room layout. Derek Coffey, a college lecturer, renovated a traditional 1800s-built Dutch barn in Llansilin, near Oswestry, Shropshire. The exterior of the barn is clad in burnt larch which looks fantastic and the interior of the home is equally impressive. When the renovation work reached an end in autumn 2023 the finished result was nothing short of stunning. The converted barn will now be a family home for Derek, his wife and their ten year old daughter.Coffey installed ECLISSE pocket door systems throughout the home in order to provide more usable space and better options for interior layouts. A total of ten pocket doors were installed, which were especially beneficial on both of the upstairs bedrooms leading onto ensuite bathrooms. “Installing pocket doors throughout the barn allowed us to save space and to use the space that we do have to better effect,” says Coffey. “We have another ensuite bedroom downstairs with a pocket door and the pocket doors on the downstairs toilet and utility room are especially beneficial as these doors would otherwise have clashed with one another when open – this problem is eliminated with sliding doors.”

Lincoln bowl has recently undergone a major washroom refurbishment to give their bowling alley a much-needed makeover. The renovation consisted of a whole washroom revamp from flooring to washbasins, taps, urinals and even the less-abled washroom facilities. We were approached by engineering and construction company Planet Construction to help with a project at Windsor Castle.Our experts met the professionals at Planet Construction on-site to gain a deeper understanding of what was required. The toilets located in the St George's area needed upgrading. The facilities needed to be robust yet stylish and in keeping with the fixtures and fittings. It became clear that the cisterns required weren't a standard size so further investigations were needed to ensure the correct products were installed.After discussions, our specifications team suggested the Dudley Electroflo range encompassing infra-red WC flushing and basin taps. This range was specifically developed to save water and maintain hygiene. A trial took place to ensure the bespoke cisterns wouldn't present any problems before the full installation was carried out. The Electroflo products are also easy to service, saving both time and money on-site which was another important factor.Testimonial“We wanted to use a supplier who had a good reputation for providing quality products with great service. The history of a 200-year-old lighthouse has been brought to life with a little help from F. Ball flooring installation products, which have been used to refurbish a popular visitor attraction on the North Wales coast.South Stack Lighthouse stands just off Holy Island and is the most westerly point on Anglesey. Built to warn passing ships of the perilous rocks that lie beneath it, the 28m-tall lighthouse is still operating today. Visitors to the landmark attraction can see the lamp up close, tour the original engine room, and learn about its history in an adjoining exhibition centre.Flooring contractors opted for Styccobond F46 adhesive to install Altro vinyl safety flooring throughout the centre’s 100m2 display rooms, as well as staff areas, toilets, corridors and kitchen. Extreme weather conditions meant there were logistical challenges, with several attempts required to deliver materials to the remote island via sea and air before contractors could begin work on the job.The visitor centre subfloor, comprising mostly old wooden floorboards, was subjected to moisture testing using a Protimeter MMS2 in WME mode, the results of which provided readings below the 17% threshold, enabling contractors to proceed with overboarding the subfloor with plywood which was then primed. A finishing compound was used to fill indentations formed by screws used to affix the panels and the joints between them in order to prevent imperfections showing through the final result.After sufficient time had been allowed for the finishing compound to dry, Styccobond F46 acrylic adhesive was used to secure the vinyl safety flooring. A solvent-free, pressure sensitive adhesive with a high-bond strength, Styccobond F46 is designed to minimise the effect of trowel serrations shadowing through thin vinyl flooring to give an aesthetically pleasing finish. The product dries to a permanent tacky film and it also has an infinite open time, is protected against biodegradation and is suitable for use over normal underfloor heating installations.A similar process was followed in the toilets, though this time, a concrete subfloor was levelled using a fast-track levelling compound, and capping and coving were installed at wall junctions using Styccobond F60 contact adhesive. The instant bond formed by the adhesive means that it is suitable for securing vertical flooring accessories. It will also withstand normal wet cleaning techniques.Commenting on the installation, Gary Hughes, Director at Oakwill Flooring, said: “As a business, we pride ourselves on high quality workmanship, using only the best products and suppliers, and if you’re putting down a floor with a 20-year guarantee, F. This project consisted of many Helmsman products, with lockers, cubicles, vanity units and IPS panels being supplied. Alongside the team at Mixbrow Construction and Ipswich Town FC, we designed, manufactured and installed 8 bespoke 1 compartment laminate lockers, 1775mm high x 400mm wide x 500mm deep on a cantilevered seat stand. The theme of the changing rooms was kept slick and professional, with See Group’s Biocarbon Laminate used in colour Gabbro. This fantastic carbon neutral laminate is strong, moisture resistant, easy to clean and has antibacterial protection, perfect for a changing room project. The locks chosen for the lockers were Lowe and Fletcher 2800 combination locks, also a great choice for the coaches’ changing rooms.Whilst we offer a wide range of cubicle options, we worked with the team at Mixbrow Construction to design a bespoke floor to ceiling cubicle to fit their needs. The changing room design featured 2 Bespoke Floor to Ceiling shower cubicles and 1 Bespoke Floor to Ceiling Toilet Cubicle. Also included in the project were 4 sets of IPS (Integrated Plumbing System) Panels and a Solid Grade Laminate Vanity unit, all in matching Solid Grade BioCarbon Laminate in colour Gabbro.

Cardigan Integrated Care Centre is a brand new healthcare centre in West Wales, housing a GP practice, dental service and pharmacy.Each unit was pre-plumbed and tested at the Venesta factory, reducing installation time by 50% and giving the end user added peace of mind.The aim of the £24m development was to provide safe, sustainable, integrated care for local residents. The anticipated high footfall meant durable and hardwearing solutions were required in all consultation rooms and washroom areas.Hygiene and infection control were of paramount importance, so we worked closely with Accredited Installers, Shire Integrated Systems, to ensure fit for purpose healthcare solutions were selected.Vepps Boxed-Out Units were specified for all the consultation rooms and offered speedy installation, while maintaining the integrity of rear fire walls and acoustic rated walls. The Solid Grade Laminate (SGL) box sides in ‘Shadow’ were rebated into strong extruded aluminium frames that provide flush, easy to clean surfaces.Meanwhile, Vepps Wall System panelling was specified for the toilet areas, which meant the WCs, flushes, basins and taps were pre-plumbed and thoroughly tested before being delivered to the Centre for installation.Read the full case study for full details.

Franke Water Systems was chosen as the key manufacturer for the revamp of Lincoln bowl’s washrooms. Inspired Washrooms, a Nottingham based company were chosen to carry out the project and specified  Franke Water Systems product range to complete the refurbishment. The renovation consisted of a whole washroom revamp from flooring to washbasins, taps, urinals and even the less-abled washroom facilities. The main aim of the project was to make their washrooms stand out as much as the bowling alley itself. Franke Water Systems provided over 20 washroom products for the revamp, including a range of Dart Valley branded taps, WCs, flush valves, hand dryers and a range of Miranit composite wash troughs for the male and female toilets. When the local community hospital in Whitby, Yorkshire commissioned a complete re-development and refurbishment of the existing location and buildings, the flooring and finishing throughout the site would need to be of the very highest standards. Using funding from the West Midlands Combined Authority and the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership Growth Deal, £82million was used to improve accessibility and capacity.The new station building will house up to five retail units and has passenger facilities including new waiting rooms, toilets and ticket machines. The new multi-storey car park has been constructed above the new station building with integrated lift access from the car park to station level. The upgraded facilities include Townscape CT Block Seats with Hardwood Deck Seat Tops to provide additional seating to the busy Rail/Bus/Taxi interchange. The Contractor was Buckingham Group.

NSK Bearings Europe Ltd, based in the market town of Newark, was looking for an office washroom refurb and specified KWC DVS products for the project. The Trumpington Residents’ Association and Cambridge City Council wanted to update a 60-year-old pavilion at the heart of the village in a £600,000 community project.Cambridge architects 5th Studio designed a striking colourful exterior cladding. They turned to an artist specialising in the treatment and perimeter fencing manufacturer Zaun to create the multi-coloured stripe effect with a specialist bright green protective steel mesh ‘cage’.The SolutionTrumpington Pavilion employs an unusual multi-coloured exterior treatment. An artist specialing in the technique has dribbled green, blue, red and yellow randomly onto a corrugated plastic sandwich sheet, which is then covered with Zaun’s Duo8 mesh in bright green, fixed to coloured timber battens.The pavilion includes a main building with a hall, youth room, kitchen, toilets, office and inter-connected changing rooms for two teams plus an officials’ room.The doors to the changing rooms are in boldly contrasting colours. At the same time, an eight-metre green mesh electric sliding gate protects the building but opens to provide unrestricted access to the patio and the King George V Playing Fields beyond.Zaun installed the Diamond cantilever sliding gate with Duo8 mesh in-fill, KeyFob and internally mounted switchto ensure both the safety of all users of the pavilion when the gates are operated especially children, and the security of the contents when the pavilion is not in use.The original pavilion, built in the early 1950s, was about half the size of the new main building, including a small hall and changing rooms.

Aninspirational resource for both members and the public,it plays host to a variety of architectural exhibitions andtalks.Because of the prestigious, landmark nature of theproject, Allgood was selected by architects BroadwayMalyan to deliver a bespoke ironmongery specificationthat would seamlessly integrate with the 2.4-metre-highglass doors in the front entrance, gallery and WCs.Allgood designed and manufactured bespokestainless-steel pull plates that were laser etched withRIBA font lettering in-house at our Brearley Streetfactory. The pull plates were required to integrate with arange of glass doors, which meant detailed setting outto ensure compatibility of fixing mechanisms with thespecific toughened glass construction, to avoid any riskof unnecessary strain on the glass material.Further bespoke elements included custom-made pushand pull handles that were fitted to toilet cubicles withconcealed fixings to deliver the desired contemporaryfinish to complement the modern aesthetic throughoutthe building The project is testament to the combined effort of thedesign teams as it involved months of collaboration andplanning between Broadway Malyan, the main contractorISG, and the specialist door providers, to ensure thechosen designs translated into end products that metmechanical compatibility and performance requirements.Allgood was involved at all stages, from inceptionthrough to the manufacturing and delivery. As well asbespoke products, the iconic Modric and Mode ranges- which are crafted from grade 316 solid stainless steel- were selected for their durability and sleek design.These were specified in the RIBA staff spaces, such asthe meeting rooms, offices and staff accommodation.

Zentia helped with sound and sight in a new teaching block. The two to three-storey steel-frame building replaces a 1970s three-storey CLASP-type teaching block to bring accommodation into the 21st Century and was designed to BREEAM “Excellent” and BIM Level 2 standards.Zentia Axiom Knife Edge canopies with Ultima+ tiles and were specified by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council for the £12.5 million new secondary teaching block at Ystalyfera Welsh Medium Comprehensive School in the upper Swansea Valley in South Wales.Used throughout the new 6,500 m² building, the Axiom Knife Edge with Ultima+ Vector tiles were used, and in addition Perla 600 x 600 mm mineral fibre tiles were also fitted in classrooms and toilet areas.The 19-month long build by main contractor Dawnus Construction as part of the South Wales Regional Contractors Framework was challenging due to the tight site and restricted working spaces. A team of eight from specialist sub-contractor SAM Drylining installed the Zentia canopies and ceiling tiles.SAM Drylining contracts manager Ian Bartlett said: “This was a large extension to a comprehensive school and consisted of several different ceiling make-ups, including Zentia’s Knife Edge canopies, all floating in different areas with no ceilings above, and then several thousand metres of Zentia Lay-In grid."“The programme was a challenging one but was co-ordinated closely with all other subcontractors on site. If alterations to sequence or design were required Zentia’s technical team attended to site to discuss and were able to agree changes at site level, making the installation as painless as you’d expect.”

St. Anns, London, new mental health inpatient building Blossom Court is undergoing it’s second phase and specified DVS and Franke products for the project. The unit is due to be completed in Autumn 2002 and aims to replace its old mental health wards with modern, state of the art facilities for patients requiring inpatient care. Following completion of the new inpatient unit in summer 2020, Phase 2 includes the refurbishment of other buildings, a new restaurant for visitors and staff and improvements to the site power and water supplies, roadways, car parking and landscaping. Designing sanitaryware for mental health and high-security environments can be a challenge, however, the DVS branded safe ensuite range is manufactured using advanced technologies, provides the perfect solution.
