Mustard Tree, one of Greater Manchester’s most loved and respected charities for the homeless and disadvantaged operates from a large warehouse in the city which was in a dilapidated state. £1.6 million was raised to refurbish it and OMI Architects were appointed to design the upgrade which included replacing the external folding doors which were manufactured by Bolton Gate Company and despite being over sixty years old, were still operable and providing security. OMI specified new doors of the same type and Bolton Gate were chosen to install three new doors to the main entrance which were powder coated yellow.

Accoya® wood has been used in a distinctive residence in Paros, a popular Greek Island in the Aegean Sea. Atlas Wood, joinery manufacturer from Greece supplied 92 windows and doors to complete this project. Accoya wood was specified for the project because of its exceptional stability, class 1 durability and extended coating maintenance cycles required for this all year round warm Mediterranean climate.

In the substantial restoration of a large Georgian estate built for and inhabited by the aristocracy, high performance timber sash windows, French doorsets and entrance doors by Mumford & Wood have been used throughout the grand house and numerous outbuildings which span different periods. Conservation™ box sash windows with traditional cords, weights and pulleys, many with complex arched or curved top frames made by Mumford & Wood, are factory finished and double glazed. Of totally traditional design they benefit from modern manufacturing techniques, are highly energy efficient and fully compliant with Part L Building Regulations.

University Arms Hotel, the oldest hotel in Cambridge, dates from the 1840s when it first opened as a coaching inn. Extensions followed in the 1930s an 1960s; but in 2013 John Simpson Architects began returning cohesion and grandeur to the building. The aim was 190 bedrooms boasting 5-star luxury. We were proud to be awarded the 14-month contract to design, supply and install 300 timber box sash windows, 50 balcony French doors, and 28 curved-on-plan sash windows. We also produced large bespoke entrance screens, and undertook the restoration of leaded light glass.

Architects: Orme Architects. NORclad supplied two species for this project both treated with NORclad Brunnea. PEFC-certified European Redwood in A Grade for the majority of the internal timber cladding, 7 different sizes of timbers were supplied from an extensive cutting list to minimise wastage on site, and in areas reduce the requirements for joints between boards. PEFC- certified Canadian Western Red Cedar was also supplied, this timber was used externally on the project, in a number of widths as seen within the images.

Manhattan Loft Gardens, LondonHaving received the highly regarded RIBA Award for an architectural style which almost defies gravity, Vincent Timber were honoured to supply the beautiful Western Red Cedar that covers the three unique terrace spaces of the Manhattan Loft Gardens. The building was designed to create a community within East London offering 248 rental loft apartments, three rooftop gardens and bars, two restaurants and a beautiful hotel, The Stratford. The building even featured on BBC's The Apprentice with candidates tasked to sell these high-end homes. The stunning gardens are carved out of the building itself with the impressive use of two differing cantilevers. Our timber panelling clads the underside of these overhanging levels whilst helping to bring life to the simply beautiful outdoor space.Spectacular Design Inside & OutDesigned by Skidmore Owings & Merrill for the Manhattan Loft Corporation the spectacular building sits 143m high covering a total of 38,225m². Overlooking the Olympic Park, the building's community helps to keep the vibrancy and creativity of this iconic area alive.With live music and cocktail masterclasses, creative workshops and yoga being just a few of the events here, residents, guests and locals are all invited to enjoy the buzz of the Manhattan Loft Gardens.Thanks to the positioning of the building’s double cantilevers, residents are only ever eight stories from a relaxing open space with unobstructed views across London. The sky gardens on the 25th and 36th floors feature wildflower gardens, BBQ zones and bar areas to dance the night away, all accompanied by plentiful natural timber. Inside, there is even a gym fitted out with the latest TechnoGym equipment.The exterior of the building is focused on nature, featuring wildflowers, water features, cedar pathways and pine trees, while the interior offers a breath-taking contrast. The entrance lobby is pierced by a stunning seven-storey glass atrium and features a beautiful 10m high fireplace. The apartments themselves are equally memorable with a collection of unique single and double-height loft apartments, all with rich oak flooring, bespoke furniture and floor-to-ceiling windows.Why Western CedarWestern Red Cedar was perfect for this project as it offers a wide range of patterns, width, and thickness, creating real flexibility and individuality in design. When properly finished and maintained, cedar will hold its beautiful appearance for decades, complimenting such a high-end build.Despite all efforts at imitation, no man-made product can match the performance qualities of Western Red Cedar. It is often chosen for buildings which require an attractive appearance, superior performance, and resistance to weather conditions. What's more, Western Red Cedar has the least impact on the environment throughout its life cycle. It requires significantly less energy to produce than man-made alternatives and is biodegradable. Our cedar is responsibly and sustainably harvested in the publicly managed forests of British Columbia, Canada. Less than 1% of standing timber is harvested each year and for each tree harvested, three are replanted to ensure our forests continue to exist. This eco-friendly material is the perfect partner for the Manhattan Loft Gardens. As well as being a haven of luxury, the building is kind to the planet. As its major structural elements are exposed there's no need for additional finishes, reducing the volume of material needed for its production, lowering its overall carbon emissions.

Wood finish powder coating to realise vision of a timber facade Overview A brand-new Skills and Innovation Centre has been added to the Earl Street/Broad Street elevation of the South Staffordshire College’s campus, a £28million project. This 7,500 sq metre, 3 storey building will house leading-edge construction, engineering and hybrid vehicle technology workshops, along with innovatively designed social spaces. The building takes pride of place on the college’s town centre site and a suitably striking external envelope has been planned. The architects’ envisaged a facade of long vertical fins giving the appearance of timber. This would also screen a roof-top substation from view. The Project Maple Sunscreening won the contract to supply the extensive vertical fin façade and proposed using lightweight aluminium instead of timber to achieve the of span required. This project is a perfect example of one of the key advantages of PWF on aluminium, over wood, namely the ability to accomplish very long spans with structural integrity. Powdertech Wood Finish (PWF ™) was selected as the most appropriate powder coating since it is formulated to match the natural variations in colour, grain density and grain pattern of wood. Importantly, PWF meets fire reaction classification A2-s1, d0. The client selected the preferred shade from our collection and the aluminium extrusions began to arrive at our plant. We coated 4000 metres of aluminium, comprising mainly rectangular sections of extruded aluminium, of sizes 200mm and 100mm x 50mm. The Guernsey Airport Fire Station, dedicated to preventing plane fires, is strategically situated near the airfield for swift emergency response. G4S Secure Solutions (Guernsey) LTD, representing the Guernsey fire service, commissioned the project. HAG Ltd assisted in installing four electrically operated Q Doors, opting for a product with thermal features and effortless operation over traditional sectional overhead doors.

Abbott Nutrition develops and markets a wide range of science-based infant formulae & medical nutritionals. Abbott nutrition required hygienic door solutions, windows and transfer hatches for its new manufacturing facility. The factory it the country’s fifth facility under Nestle and is considered to be among the company’s most advanced worldwide.  Dortek supplied Fire rated single action and sliding doors across the facility. Their smooth and seamless construction means there are no ledges where bacteria can gather. Our encapsulated doors are hygienic, easy to clean and 100% waterproof. Dortek GRP doors are ideally suited to milk processing areas and have been installed in facilities worldwide.

Arguably the most famous department store in the world, Harrods of Knightsbridge is a huge retail concern with over 5000 staff members working in over 70,000 square meters of retail space split into 300 plus departments over seven floors.When Harrods decided to redesign their staff food court they required double action doors that were aesthetically pleasing, had a high hygienic rating and were easy to use and they also needed a double action door with a 120 minute Fire Rating.SolutionDortek Installed Polyethylene doors that could be used as personnel doors. They also allow easy movement of trolleys and kitchen equipment between the three distinctive kitchen areas. Dortek also installed double-action 2-hour fire rated GRP doors into a 2530mm wide structural opening to enable staff to bring in large pieces of kitchen equipment when necessary.

This Private Healthcare branch has been refurbished to equip SDS DFendoor doorsets in Woodgrain effect combining stunning looks, durability and hygiene.This great looking project boasts many bespoke features including 3 metre high woodgrain encapsulated SDS DFendoor’s, including doors with a different finish and colour on each side and colour matched cladding. SDS is proud to have added to the overall design and execution quality.

The MFU1200 door hardware was used for a walk-in closet door in the entrance area of a private residence. The goal of the product was to create a hidden door.In this article, the benefits and objectives of this product will be explored. To complete the contemporary professional environment that Mills & Reeve wanted, Komfort’s Sonik Slide double glazed sliding doors were installed to all the meeting rooms. The Sonik collection provides enhanced acoustic performance whilst also creating an open-plan modern feel. For the stunning fully glazed atrium, which stretched above the ground floor restaurant, Komfort’s Polar single glazing was used. Polar single glazed is designed with a minimum number of components, and thus facilitates the speed of erection without compromising structural stability and rigidity. Polar single glazing was also used on the office fronts with timber doorframes.

Fleet Street in the City of London has long been known as the historic home of the British press. Number 53 is a Victorian terrace, with a striking front tiled facade. Thornsett Group, working with architects Capital Architecture, has recently converted the property into five luxury residences, plus ground floor retail space. We were appointed to design, supply and install 26 traditional box sash windows for the main elevation, with an acoustic performance of 45 dB Rw. For the rear of the property we provided 24 inward-opening timber tilt and turn windows, plus lift and slide patio doors.

Washroom's off-site service allowed the design to be carefully fine-tuned prior to installation on site for this prestigious office refurbishment project. Washroom's full height Alto toilet cubicle doors were specified with a real wood veneer finish, stained to match the solid Douglas fir timber panelling in the reception area. The bespoke polished cast concrete vanity units feature integral waste bins and Tego hinged mirror units above. For the new staff shower and changing room area Washroom's full height Alto FENIX shower cubicles were installed along with Z style Forza SGL lockers.

Canadian Western Red Cedar Timber Cladding with NORclad Brunnea treatment Approximately 7.5km of Canadian Western Red Cedar has been suppled for this project in Wednesbury, machined to our face fix NWC2 T&G profile. Brunnea treated Canadian Western Red Cedar cladding from NORclad offers a formal 30 year warranty against rot and fungal decay. The NORclad Brunnea treatment is a popular choice, containing a pigment and UV inhibitors – there is a good level of colour stability VS uncoated timbers. Being a preservative treatment rather than a coating, there is less involved in terms of maintaining the product.

James Latham have supplied 40 door blanks from their Moralt Laminesse FireSmoke range to the grade 1 listed Christ Church at Spitalfields in the East End of London. The brief was to convert the crypt of Nicholas Hawksmoor’s church into a multi-purpose space for events, board meetings and a fully operating café. The door blanks with a European Oak veneer were specified due to their superior acoustic values which was of the upmost importance for keeping the outside noise out and not disturbing any events or services that will take place simultaneously.

Jo Richardson Community SchoolProduct: Tarnhow Dome Free Standing Timber CanopyTimber Stain Colour: Antique PineCanopy Size: 35m x 11mEstimated Value: £90,000Installation Date: August 2017Contractor: KCH Contractors Ltd.The BriefJo Richardson Community School is a large school in east London. The School has around 1400 pupils between 11 – 19 years of age.In one part of the School there is a generous sized space that is enclosed on three sides by school buildings. The School has many courtyard spaces like this but this one is the busiest because it is next to the canteen and on the most direct route to the separate sports hall. As the space is uncovered it offers little shelter to pupils and staff. To transform this area, so that it could be protected and safe to use for dining, break times and other activities, the school wanted to cover it with a canopy.Initially they requested a steel framed canopy with no central posts. This would allow maximum use of the space (with no posts to restrict the flow of people or potential uses). There were two major drawbacks to this approach. The first was cost. A steel structure large enough to cover the space and work without central posts would not be cheap. The second was that using a steel structure, that was big enough to fit the space, had the potential to not be sympathetic to the surrounding buildings and environment.As this was such an important project it was essential that any solution satisfied both practical and aesthetic requirements. This can be seen in the rendered image below which shows how the all steel structure would have looked.A second, more cost-effective option was then proposed. This still used steel but included posts that would support from the centre. This gives more flexibility to the installation process and reduces costs, but does place limitations on the use of the space and flow of pupils under the canopy.In both cases a steel canopy was proving not to be the ideal option.The SolutionTo overcome the issues of using steel we suggested to the School that they consider our Tarnhow Dome Free Standing Timber Canopy. This would allow them to maximise the space, work within a manageable budget and use a material that would complement the existing buildings and make a strong and appealing visual statement.The final size was a canopy that measured 35 metres in length, by 11metres wide, with a height of 5 metres. This could be installed without central posts, thereby ensuring the space could be maximised and used for different activities and occasions.While timber was not the first thought for the customer it proved to be the perfect choice. With its good looks, provision of effective weather protection and value for money price, it ensured the school achieved their project goal of a transformed space that would provide value for them well into the future.InstallationThe final installation not only gave the school everything they needed in terms of weather protection but it also looked extremely impressive with the dramatic lines of the wooden Tarnhow frame drawing the eye through the structure to the end wall. The substantial height of the canopy added to the feel of space and depth that will mean the school can use it for all sorts of activities and events and not just as a seating area.It also allows large number of pupils to move around the space safely with plenty of room for seating and other equipment, such as a hot snack trolley, to be used.The installation itself was a textbook process with the frame going up quickly and then the roof panels being added to the structure. Our pre-installation visits and accurate measurements allowed us to have all the elements in place before the agreed installation date, meaning we could finish on time and on budget. We were even able to design and construct a neat bespoke solution where the canopy had to fit with the existing building – see image to the right.This meant that the protection from rain and snow was complete wherever you were under the canopy and would allow the school to get the most from their new space all year round.

The Una is a timber leaf riser door system with a concealed metal frame. Provided as a full metal door set, made to size and delivered to site as a flat-packed kit prepared for all ironmongery. The wood door leaf comes with hinge cut-outs and can be primed for on-site finishing or pre-finished in our factory. Choose from non-fire rated or fire rated to E30 or E60.

Situated in the north dock of the West India Quay,Canary Wharf’s Crossrail Place is a unique architecturaltriumph that houses a train station,retail space and apublic garden.Designed by Foster & Partners and constructed byCanary Wharf Contractors, the £500 million project’sdistinctive 300 metre timber latice roof has lead to thebuilding being likened to a ship moored in thedocks.Beneath it’s eye-catching facade lies Canary Wharf’sCrossrail station. Scheduled to open in 2018, it is one ofseven new underground stations built to facilitate theCrossrail project. With a 256 metre long station box, it isalso one of the largest facilities on the Crossrail network.Allgood began work on the project in early 2015, withthe task of providing an ironmongery package to matchthe high quality theme of the building.With a 25 year guarantee on all products, the Modricrange was selected for the steel doors in order toprovide a durable product that also formed a uniformappearance for the door.With the public nature of the building, security was ofparamount importance. The steel door package enabledaccess from public to private areas and thereforerequired higher security measures. Allgood installedhigh security solenoid redlocks that enable electronicsynchronisation with access control.

Four Formica® Laminates were specified for fire doors in Octavia House School, an independent specialist therapeutic school based in Essex, UK. Doors were designed for high traffic areas including classrooms, offices, toilets and communal spaces such as corridors and halls.

London Stadium (formerly and also known as Olympic Stadium) is a multi-purpose outdoor stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park London.Project/doors:21 Fire and Security shutters (2010)50+ Fire and Security shutters (2015)The challengeHart assisted with the specification prior to the award. Technical collaboration was ongoing ensuring that integration and operation of the shutters went smoothly with safety and continuity in mind. Hart was subject to strict working practices and the factory was visited to review progress and audit Hart's quality system procedures.The solution2010 - Manufacture, supply, deliver and install 21 Fire Resistant and Security Shutters to the Olympic Main Stadium requiring advance battery backup and operational features. 2015 - Manufacture, supply, deliver and install over 50 Security and Fire shutters to the new build including kiosk shutters, security entrances and POD buildings surrounding the arena. The successHart was chosen out of 50+ door companies to supply all of the roller shutters to the London 2012 Olympic main stadium. This well known producer of bakery products was experiencing repeated damage and rising repair costs on their loading bay roller shutter doors. Beings a BRCGS accredited site, they could not afford to have their external doors damaged (or left open) for any period of time, as this creates an ingress point for rodents. Tekta were pleased to work with this site to create an effective solution. The Rapidor Impact high speed door was specified due to it's self-repairing feature and it's anti-rodent functionality. Cambridge Biomedical Campus. (CBC) created a vibrant and groundbreaking health care community at the forefront of science and medicine.Dortek’s brief was to supply and installation of doors to a very specific programme, across primarily 3 floors.Our Dortek doors were installed within the BRF rooms, laboratories, holding room, procedure rooms, CL3 labs, equipment store, changing rooms, and circulation routes. We fulfilled the clients expectations by meeting the specification and programme, and working closely with planners to interface with other trades. Derek Coffey, a college lecturer, renovated a traditional 1800s-built Dutch barn in Llansilin, near Oswestry, Shropshire. The exterior of the barn is clad in burnt larch which looks fantastic and the interior of the home is equally impressive. When the renovation work reached an end in autumn 2023 the finished result was nothing short of stunning. The converted barn will now be a family home for Derek, his wife and their ten year old daughter.Coffey installed ECLISSE pocket door systems throughout the home in order to provide more usable space and better options for interior layouts. A total of ten pocket doors were installed, which were especially beneficial on both of the upstairs bedrooms leading onto ensuite bathrooms. “Installing pocket doors throughout the barn allowed us to save space and to use the space that we do have to better effect,” says Coffey. “We have another ensuite bedroom downstairs with a pocket door and the pocket doors on the downstairs toilet and utility room are especially beneficial as these doors would otherwise have clashed with one another when open – this problem is eliminated with sliding doors.”

Artform Urban were approached by Illman Young Landscape Design in 2018 to discuss a range of design led street furniture elements including seating and litter bins to a brand new service station located at junction 1 of the M6 in Rugby, planned to open in 2021. The seating product selected was the Multiplicity Bench, a popular product featuring a cast aluminium leg frame with hardwood seat.The Box Wood Litter Bin featuring a Triangular Ashtray fixture was also supplied. All acoustic products which were installed on this project by UK Acoustic Systems were manufactured by Soundis, specifically their Soundis Absorb-R WoodTec range, which the client and architect approved due to their versatility, and the fact they were able to manufacture the products exactly to the project specific specification.The Micro Perforated Timber panels were located and installed on the curved rear wall of the auditorium. The timber core panels were faced with Micro Perforated Formica and the client decided upon the colour red which contrasted the other products within the auditorium tremendously.
