Network Rail’s nationwide initiative for high specification, durable AFA platform access bridges required AATi to supply re-engineered ‘Coverall’ combined stair nosing and step covers. These small design changes have again improved bridge construction techniques and the long-term performance of the stairway, and removed dirt-traps and improved drainage. AATi supplied their SN293 WL307 UR to fit the needs.

The Ascent stair unit - Industrial stair system was specified to create a safe means of access over roof mounted mechanical and electrical plant and equipment. The roof area is tightly packed with Air conditioning plant creating a unique challenge to design a safe means of access across it. The Ascent step over / stair unit is able to accommodate spans up to 4.5m and was able to be utilised to create a safe access route. The step over unit is supported on rubber spreader feet which provide a non-penetrative support solution on the flat single ply membrane roof. The stair unit is designed in accordance with BS EN ISO 14122-1:2001 + A1:2010 and Building Reg Part K:2013 and manufactured following 1090 factory production control procedures.
Coal Drops Yard - Kings Cross London

AATi Commercial supplied over 1500 metres of cast metal anti-slip stair nosings for the Coal Drops Yard project.
Historically this site was used to store coal (London’s only available energy source at the time), On the discovery of electricity the use of coal was challenged and electricity prevailed driving the coal sheds into deterioration.
Staircases are perfectly poised throughout this re-developed retail quarter providing access to shops and restaurants on all levels.
With the vast amount of heavy pedestrian footfall expected, the AATi stair nosing product ref: SN9/55 in Cast Iron (zinc plated black) was chosen.

Standing 324m above the Paris skyline, the Eiffel Tower is France’s most visited tourist attraction. In the first renovation operation to be carried out at the tower in almost 30 years, the first-floor platform has been transformed with the installation of a gangway and glass panels all the way round the central void, to give visitors the impression of walking on air, 57 metres above the ground.

Few people realise that it is possible to clad old stairs with our engineered herringbone parquet floors. It is a specialist skill and you should only employ trusted professionals who have the specialist equipment.
The parquet blocks used here are unfinished so that you get perfect square edges. They are then oiled after all other works are completed so that you get your perfect floor.
There is no separate stair nose piece as the top layer of solid Oak is a good 4mm thick and this allows the fitters to create an accurate mitre join.

Challenge As part of a major Council Housing refurbishment project Portsmouth City specified the installation of a new vinyl floor covering to all stairwells with new Equality Act compliant stair nosings. The Equality Act offers best practice guidance and recommendations on how to make stairways safe and accessible for partially sighted people. Any new stair nosings for the project would therefore need to feature appropriately sized dimensions, a contrasting band of colour and tactile hazard warning surfaces to assist with user safety.

Floor Furnishings were tasked with fitting flooring in University lecture theatres. The spaces, which would be used by large volumes of people, had to be Equality Act compliant and meet building regulations related to stepped access and slip resistance.
Nathan Jefferies, Director of the flooring contractor contacted Quantum to seek technical advice on which Stair Nosings would meet these standards.
Quantum provided information on a Stair Nosing that would meet the criteria for this project and this information was passed onto the Architect working on the University buildings.

Committed to retaining its local presence and historic links with Weymouth, fashion retailer New Look underwent regeneration of its Mercery Road site as part of the Weymouth Gateway development.
The purpose built New Look Support Centre is a modern three-storey building located at the entrance to the development. The finished look is one of clean modern elevations, substantially glazed to maximise the use of natural light and make the most of the spectacular view from upper levels.
Cladding Winding Stair Case with Brushed Band Sawn Oak

Wireworks London approached us looking for a modern industrialised Oak to clad onto a winding staircase in a beautiful London home. Amongst the options we presented was our CH-E780. This a White Oak with a brushed and band sawn surface giving it a clean yet worn texture. The rusticgrade Oak allows for some knotting to appear without it overpowering carefully detailed floorboards.These boards are finished with a commercial grade UV cured oil that makes it hard wearing and easy to maintain. This particular product has also been fitted throughout the busy, modern offices at 3 Shortlands, Hammersmith. It is easily one of our most popular surfaces and finishes.Wireworks didn’t want a separate stair nose component, instead opting for mitring the length of the boards to a 45-degree angle and jointing them together with a biscuit and high quality PVA glue. The effect is a stunning cascade of band sawn Oak which looks like it was purpose built in a specialist workshop or factory. Brunswick House is a superb new residential scheme of 251 bedrooms, incorporating a mixture of studios and cluster rooms. The scheme is designed to offer outstanding student accommodation for undergraduate, postgraduate and international students in the heart of Cambridge.
The client required stair nosings for 7 staircases meaning a total of 296 steps that would be durable enough for high traffic student usage.
There was an additional design restraint in that the staircases would be made out of cast metal and therefore no mechanical fixings could be used.

In order to meet the latest guidelines on creating safe stairs, the stair edgings incorporate slip-resistant inserts in colour Glacier to provide a tonal contrast with the carpet to define the step edge in normal conditions; whilst the lighting helps students and staff to safely navigate the lecture theaters in darkened conditions. The stair edgings have also been used to complement the streamlined and modern interior of the lecture theaters, replicating the design of the grey desks with green highlight detail onto the staircase for a co-ordinated appearance.
