With use of the company’s primers, floor smoothing compounds and adhesives, a floorcovering installation at the new Christ Church School in Frome proved to be a master class from F. Ball and Co. Ltd.
The subfloors were prepared by applying Stopgap P131 primer, followed by Stopgap Green Bag fast setting smoothing underlayment.
Heckmondwike Hippo carpeting was then installed in the entrance area using Styccobond F3 Flooring Adhesive. Flotex carpet was laid in classrooms, secured by Styccobond F44 Acrylic Flooring Adhesive, which was also used to install Altro Walkway vinyl floorcovering in community areas and toilets...

A combination of Stopgap 600 deep section base compound and Stopgap 200 Smooth acrylic floor smoothing underlayment was used over a Stopgap Waterproof Surface Membrane, firstly to build up the subfloor to the required thickness and then create a smooth, durable surface on which the final floorcovering could be laid. Styccobond F46 pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive was used to secure the vinyl Polyflor XL floorcovering to the finished subfloor...

Housing developer Laurus Homes, a profit-for-purpose housing developer that’s part of Trafford Housing Trust, secured planning permission to build 13 four bedroom houses and 16 two bedroom apartments in Whalley Range near Manchester. The main contractor for the project was Lane End Group, the market leader in the construction and housing sector in the North West. The contract for the windows and doors in the development was awarded to Profile 22 Approved Contractor Kingfisher Windows
Permanently-fixed vertical ladder system - fixed access ladder to roof access hatch at Sheffield University Campus Building

The Ascent Aluminium fixed ladder system was specified to create a permanent safe access route to the roof via a roof access hatch at Sheffield University Hoops were provided throughout for fall protection and the ladder was designed to BS 4211:2005 + A1 2008 and was manufactured in accordance with CE 1090 factory production control procedures. To assist the user when exiting on to the roof surface a ladder up post was included within the design. The ladder up post provides something for the user to grab hold of when both climbing out of & into the hatch, providing an additional level of user security.

Stannah Lifts has supplied and installed (and will maintain) 38 lift products in Imperial Green, a high-specification development of 75, two-, three- and four-bedroom townhouses and apartments in Hythe, a peaceful, coastal market town on the fringe of Romney Marsh.
To facilitate luxurious living, and, where applicable, to enable homeowners to stay in their homes for as long as possible, a total of 38 Stannah lift products were supplied and installed: a traction passenger lift, 11 hydraulic platform passenger lifts (home lifts) and 26 dumbwaiters (service lifts). This future-proofing capability helped to secure the contract for Stannah.

The Holburne Museum, Bath

To protect exhibits housed within this magnificent Georgian building, Selectaglaze designed and installed single hinged casements incorporating Anti-UV glazing and multi-point locking accredited to “Secured by Design”. Other design considerations included a paint finish matching the surrounding décor and maintenance of clean lines via flush hinges and a flush lock. The secondary glazing blends imperceptibly with the monumental sash windows with no additional sight lines to mar the spectacular views.
The double window system also proves high levels of sound insulation and the inclusion of a low emissivity coating to the glass markedly reduces heat loss.

For these roofs, Metrotile’s classic ‘Roman’ profile was specificied as its contoured design matched the concrete Roman tiles that remained on some of the buildings.The finished product, is a fine example of old meeting new with brilliant results. Another important factor involved with the specification of Metrotile was the need for a secure roofing solution.

Virgo Fidelis Convent School was founded in 1848. The beautiful Gothic style, club head windows with feature tear drops are a main feature of the building. The original single glazed windows were made from cast iron, offering very poor thermal performance and minimal security. After 100 years the time had come to replace them. Project managers Synergy Construction & Property Consultants were seeking a window system that could not only replicate the original design but would also meet modern performance criteria. Clement’s EB24 steel window range met these requirements.

500kg goods lift in a lightwell the perfect solution for London Home

The lightwell lift includes caged, enclosed sides to secure the load and prevent the risk of anything falling from the platform onto people below.
Interlocked doors were fitted to prevent any accidents whilst the goods lift is in use. Interlocks ensure that the lift will only operate whilst the doors are locked shut, opening again once the lift has travelled to the level required.
This provided the team with a safe and efficient lifting solution when moving their big commercial bins from below ground to pavement level.
The 500kg capacity allows deliveries to be taken from kerbside to the basement.

Supplying over 60 x 1m high Sentry fencing, the system was mounted on top of the existing 1m high boundary wall using our bespoke designed cranked fence posts whilst also being stepped to accommodate the sloping ground.

Chorlton High School Laminate Lockers Project

It’s prime time for the education sector to refurbish and service institutions. Helmsman manufactured and installed almost 200 new laminate lockers in a high school in Manchester. These laminate lockers were extra heavy duty. Having ‘extra’ heavy-duty lockers means that the laminate doors inset into the locker frame and creates extra durability. The advanced locking design provides a return lip within the internal door frame for the hooked cam to lock behind. In addition, there is a locking slot in the door frame upright that enables secure locking in two places. These stable and fire retardant four compartment lockers have created storage for 776 students.The Laminate used was Arpa Fucisa, which makes the corridors pop. The laminate lockers are all standard sizes of 1775mm high x 300mm wide x 450mm deep. This project included a standard 150 mm stand with the rear leg which has been cladded with matching laminate panels to have a fully secure, clean and aesthetically pleasing effect. Arpa Fucisa also used for the sidewall to locker infill. Chorlton school chose to have engraved numbers on each locker door. Terra-34 Architectural Grating used as facade for new extension at Donegal Garda Station

The new extension for the Donegal Garda is a prominent feature utilising materials that respond to its topology and enhance the building’s civic presence in the town. The dark coloured brick plinth of the semi-basement grounds the building while the upper floors which feature a facade of open mesh grating provide an open and transparent interface with the public whilst maintaining necessary security provisions.Lang+Fulton supplied the bespoke steel mesh cladding for the glazed upper floors of the facade. The grating achieves a contemporary aesthetic and delivers the practical advantages of protection and a brise-soleil solution, while achieving a transparency that offers the public an insight into the activities of the station; the degree of transparency and solar shading creating an interesting variety, dependent on the angle of view, the time of day and light conditions.The Terra-34 grating, which features an anti-climb aperture, was also used to create walkways, soffits and a secure enclosure around the roof-top plant. The gratings were made to 19 different custom-sizes and shapes for each floor with 3038mm high panels for the facade cladding. Slotted tabs were designed for fixing to the support steelwork. The material was supplied in a hot-dip galvanized finish to withstand the coastal environment.Donegal Town Garda Station has won 4 national awards including Best Cultural/Public Building (RIAI). Adjudicators said that, “The project stands out for its laconic civic presence and its no-nonsense adaptation of the spatial culture of a thriving historic town … the building demonstrates that thoughtful architecture can quietly and carefully edify our everyday culture”.

The vision behind the design was around transparency, visibility, and collaboration. The 17,000 square metre iconic building, which spans seven floors, includes large areas of collaborative space for students, visitors and staff to meet.Impressive AtriumCirculation around the Bristol Business School is obvious and highly visible from the main atrium where the Lusso 105 frameless double glazed system was installed. The system needed to be designed for imposed line load and potential wind load within the space. The glazed atrium, which is the heart of the building, incorporates a variety of social learning and flexible meeting spaces.Sleek DesignThe two wings of accommodation contrast to reflect the accommodation uses within and the orientation of the building on the site for environmental purposes. For these, the Lusso 105M double glazed framed system which complimented the other atria screens and enabled the slim ghost post mullion to incorporate the integral blind control mechanism.The multi award winning project was delivered to Building Information Modelling (BIM) Level 2 maturity. The FIS, a representative body for the finishes and interiors sector, presented Lusso with the Silver Award in Partitioning for the Business School at their annual awards ceremony. These awards are held annually and are designed to ‘promote and encourage highs levels of craftsmanship’.

The ChallengeWith the architects hoping to realise their vision of space and light on the ground floor, but the fire officer demanding fire safety partitioning around the base of the lift shafts, Pyroguard tendered a stylish, high-performance solution – a lobby encased in glass and steel, capable of delivering best-in-class performance credentials and aesthetic appeal in abundance.Working closely with steel frame and glazing specialist Pacific Fire Control, Pyroguard designed a modern glass wall, with a glazed door and stylish, thin steel frames which were independently fire tested by Efectis France.The scheme amendment was accepted by both the architects and the fire officers, declaring Pyroguard as their manufacturer of choice for this flagship leisure development.The SolutionA subsidiary of India’s largest business conglomerate, the Tata Group, the Indian Hotels Company is known for its relentlessly high standards, which are visible across its portfolio of hotels.Meeting this quality benchmark head-on, Pyroguard supplied 390 square metres of ultra-thin lightweight Pyroguard Firesafe, which offers protection from flames, smoke and radiant heat for between 30 and 120 minutes.This EW-classified product is UV stable and offers exceptional light transmission, making it the perfect solution for encasing the lift lobby. The toughened glass was installed in fire-resistant steel screens and door frames around the lobby.

As the first Google-designed and owned building outside the United States, the company’s new London headquarters was going to be anything but subtle.Nicknamed the ‘Landscraper’ due to its 11 storeys and planned 330m length (20m longer than The Shard is high), the new headquarters will not only provide an airy working environment for 4,500 employees but also take ‘multi-use’ to a whole new level with cafés, indoor games areas (including a basketball court), a 25m swimming pool, a gym… and a landscaped rooftop garden complete with a running track.This staggeringly ambitious design for a modern workplace right in the heart of London will sit on a plinth of shops and cover 92,000 square metres. Goliath in scope as well as stature, it goes without saying that its blockwork needs are also substantial, with 18,000 square metres of high-strength blocks required.Our Blockwork SolutionA project of this size and scale required blockwork that could bear a heavy load. We were therefore commissioned to provide a variety of products, including our Lignacite blocks.The high density of these blocks gives them significant strength with loadbearing capabilities. For this project, Lyons & Annoot specified Lignacite blocks able to bear loads of up to 7.3N/mm2 (Newton per square millimetre), which are ideal for both internal and external use, above and below ground. They are also well suited to forming partition or separating walls.

Howe Green Ltd supplied over 850 specially designed and manufactured floor access covers for an underground station which required safe, secure and easy access to building services concealed beneath the flooring.
Howe Green designed bespoke duct covers based on the 7500 Series Medium-Duty Floor Access Covers. With a 69 mm depth the access covers were manufactured with an extra thick base plate and reinforcements to meet the demands of what will be a highly trafficked area.
The access covers were infilled with two different types of flooring dependent upon their location - Conservation Smooth pavings from Marshalls and Granazzo.
Uridan water-free urinals provide solution to water leakage at winchmore school - London

Winchmore School has completed a washroom refit specifying Franke’s Uridan waterless urinal pods. The Uridan system is available exclusively through Franke Sissons in the UK and Ireland and is manufactured from glass reinforced plastic which is far more resilient than ceramic and provides reassuring security against vandalism.
Adrian Bailey, Facilities Manager at Winchmore School explained, “We wanted a waterless solution to reduce water use and maintenance costs. There are other water-free products available for this type of installation but we wanted assurance it would stand the wear and tear of secondary school pupils and be completely odour free.”

Over 400 of Howe Green’s Access Covers have been supplied to Tier 1 contractors working on Europe’s largest construction project – Crossrail.
Over 60 of Howe Green’s 7500 Series Multipart Floor Access Covers were supplied specifically for Tottenham Court Road Station. The large 4 part units were precision made to order to ensure they would be a perfect fit, avoiding slips and trips in such a highly trafficked and challenging environment.
The covers have been infilled with granite to match the surrounding area and supplied with barrel lifting points, with just the securing bolt and barrel edge visible.

Over 80 of Howe Green’s 7500 Series Floor Access Covers were specified by architect Chapman Taylor LLP for the Westgate Oxford development.
The floor access covers were required to provide safe and easy access to essential underfloor services in heavily trafficked pedestrian areas.
The covers have been installed throughout Westgate by specialist stone contractor Vetter UK. The covers have been infilled with various types of stone to blend seamlessly with different hard floor finishes across multiple locations.
Being positioned in such a public place, the 7500 Series covers are tamper resistant providing a secure access solution.

Profile 22 Optima Chamfered Windows deliver specifications required. The window specification required a U-value of 1.4 wm2/k on all windows and Secured by Design accreditation on the ground floor & easily accessible first floor windows. Acoustic glazing was also required because Lewis House is situated on a busy road so traffic noise needed to be minimised. Visually, the local authority had requested a grey exterior to give a modern appearance and provide a close match to aluminum.

The new site comprises a 20-cell custody suite and a three-storey office building, which accommodates more than 300 officers and staff and provides both Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, which shares the office building, with modern, 21st century facilities. Mustard Tree, one of Greater Manchester’s most loved and respected charities for the homeless and disadvantaged operates from a large warehouse in the city which was in a dilapidated state. £1.6 million was raised to refurbish it and OMI Architects were appointed to design the upgrade which included replacing the external folding doors which were manufactured by Bolton Gate Company and despite being over sixty years old, were still operable and providing security.
OMI specified new doors of the same type and Bolton Gate were chosen to install three new doors to the main entrance which were powder coated yellow.
