Precision micro, a UK based manufacturer of precision metal components for the automotive, aerospace and pharmaceutical industries were investing in a refurbishment of their photochemical etching facilities. The state of the art facility required a highly chemically resistant easy to clean floor finish. Various existing substrates needed to be pulled together to create one seamless finish with an integrated cove. Due to the chemicals utilised in the area, there is a risk of airborne corrosives attacking the metal ceilings, so an acid resistant protective coating was also required overhead.After extensive trials and chemical exposure testing, Remmers resin systems were selected for the works. For the ceiling, Epoxy BS3000 SG provided chemical protection to the galvanised steel surface and exhibited excellent adhesive properties after the steel was prepared using an ice blasting process. The floors were a mixture of existing resin finishes, new concrete and Polypropylene drain covers. A selection of priming solutions for the different areas were utilised including, Epoxy ST100, Epoxy MT100 and Epoxy BS3000 SG. Then topped with Epoxy Flex PH laid at 2mm and sealed with PUR Top M+. Car park refurbishment for Dublin City UniversityMcKeon Construction Limited, were looking for a durable and innovative resin waterproofing system for one of their clients, Dublin City University (DCU). The university required car park refurbishment to a multi-storey car park where the existing deck coating had started to fail.McKeon discussed the client requirements with Larsen Contracts (Ireland) Ltd, a specialist resin contractor. Larsen recommended the Degafloor Top Deck System for the car park refurbishment.The Degafloor Car Park Top Deck System is designed to offer the outstanding flexibility and performance required for top decks of multi-storey car parks. The unique formulation allows installation to occur extremely quickly, with the main system of 23mm being installed in a single application process.The project was completed according to specification, within budget and on time. DCU and McKeon Construction Ltd are delighted with the results and the numerous benefits that the Degafloor Top Deck System has delivered, including: outstanding durability, flexibility, a totally seamless and impervious finish, exceptional slip resistance and visually pleasing aesthetics.Eddie O’Brien of Larsen Contracts Ltd commented: “The Degafloor Car Park Top Deck System enabled us to complete the installation within the short window of time available (weather wise). Slip-resistant steps for Villa ParkDegafloor were thrilled to be involved in the redevelopment of Aston Villa’s famous Villa Park football stadium. Slip-resistant steps were required for the Holte End of the stadium in addition to new facilities, including a new bar and suite complex.As part of the project, slip-resistant steps were required. The entire 600m² staircases were treated with Degafloor concrete crack seal, followed by a flexible waterproof membrane to deliver a impervious solution to protect the new bar and suite complex. The staircases were then finished with a bespoke Degafloor Quartz Trowelled with Aggregate System, finished in a unique Terracotta Quartz.To comply with current DDA legislation (Disability Discrimination Act) the stairs were finished with a separately formed nosing in White.Due to the tight project timescale and to overcome traditional British weather constraints, Flo-Dek (UK) Ltd recommended a range of fast curing Degafloor resin systems. As well as being fast curing, all Degafloor systems exhibit excellent UV resistance – essential for external environments – whilst the QTA system applied to the treads offers unrivalled slip resistance to ensure spectator safety, whatever the weather conditions.Speaking on behalf of Flo-Dek (UK) Ltd, Sales Director Dave Cope said, “This was a very complex and demanding project. The colours had to match perfectly and the hand formed nosings required a high level of skill and attention to detail”.

In this case study, we explore a recent resin bound gravel driveway installation project completed using PermaBound materials. Discover how this project aimed to enhance both the aesthetics and functionality of a property's driveway, offering durability and low-maintenance benefits.The homeowner desired a modern, attractive, and SuDs-compliant surface to replace their worn-out driveway. After careful consideration, they chose a resin bound gravel driveway using an Ocean Grey blend. The goal was to create a durable solution that would elevate the property's curb appeal.The project commenced with thorough surface preparation, including the removal of the existing driveway. A permeable tarmac surface was laid, providing a clean and level base for the resin bound application. A porous sub-base was established to ensure effective water drainage.Following best practices, the team marked out 37 bays of approximately 3.6m² in which they would lay each of their mixes. Using high-quality PermaBound UVR+ resin binder and a unique Ocean Grey aggregate blend, the installers produced their mixes in a forced action mixer. The resin and aggregate mixture were carefully spread using a spazzle before being hand-troweled onto the prepared surface by seasoned professionals, creating a seamless and smooth finish.The completed Ocean Grey resin bound gravel driveway instantly transformed the property's appearance. The cool grey tones of the aggregate harmonised with the surrounding architecture, delivering a contemporary and inviting entrance. The surface's smooth finish added sophistication, while its permeability enabled efficient drainage, reducing the risk of localised surface flooding.Additionally, the driveway's low-maintenance nature proved beneficial. Debris can be easily swept away, and occasional power washing will restore its pristine appearance. Thanks to the durable resin bound system, the driveway can withstand the weight of vehicles without compromising its integrity, ensuring long-lasting beauty and functionality.This case study highlights the remarkable transformation achieved through the installation of a resin bound gravel driveway. SureSet helped redevelop these areas by installing two mixes of Resin Bound Paving to run next to the viaduct, which also includes entrances to step areas and ramp ways. The colour Tuscan Barley Butter a dark red mix with tones of gold and yellow, and Bronze which has more browns and greens, were then used in conjunction with a traditional concrete slab.

Movement Joint Resin Injection, London.
Newton Waterproofing Systems
At this new-build shopping centre in Shepherd's Bush, West London, the new underground car park was experiencing high levels of water ingress through two movement joints that had failed. Newton Specialist Contractor ASF Waterproofing, who are specialists in injection resins and structural repair work, was therefore called in order to provide a quick solution and fix the leaking joints.Following an initial investigation, the technical team from ASF decided to use the 5-part acrylic rubber sealing resin Newton 324-SR to seal the joint, as it reacts to form a very durable and flexible seal that exhibits exceptional adhesion, making it ideal for movement joints.ASF began by drilling holes at angle into the concrete, and at regular intervals for the 10mm injection packers above the joints. The injection packers were then fitted to each hole, and foam backing rod was used to temporarily block the joint and prevent uncured resin from escaping as it is injected.The five components of the PC 509 Rubber Acryl are mixed to make two solutions, whilst the curing time of the resin can also be adjusted by changing the quantity of initiator used. The resin was then injected through the packers and into the joint using a three-component stainless steel pump.Finally, once the resin was cured and the joints were effectively sealed, ASF ground back the surface of the concrete to either side of the joints and applied Newton 106 FlexProof, a flexible liquid waterproofing material, to provide a final protective seal and finish the job.With two leaking movement joints in a finished structure, the client required a swift resolution to get the area back into use quickly. With the benefit of Newton’s advanced resin and waterproofing products, ASF got to site and delivered the sealed joints within the client’s tight timeframe.

Addagrip approved contractor, Resin & Rock were delighted to be appointed to install tree pit resin bound surfacing around the base of a number of the London Plane trees on the newly redeveloped Exhibition Road in the Royal Borough of Chelsea and Kensington.A 6mm Lucerne Silver was used to replace the existing self-binding gravel finish to fulfil the clients’ requirements for a porous, hard wearing and aesthetically pleasing surface capable of tolerating the high pedestrian flows in this busy street. A super-flex collar was included in the installations to allow for tree growth and to ensure that there was no loose aggregate.The low maintenance paving provides a seamless surface with excellent slip resistance and can be easily kept clean.The installation was completed in November 2014

Recycled, fun, and accessible resin bound paving for school pathways

The chosen colours for the brighter abstract paving zones are from our very own recycled glass range called Spectrum®, the glass chippings are of the smallest size available and average around 3mm. The recycled glass is always tumbled (no shape edges) before colour coating begins which is completed in-house to guarantee a colour consistency and UV stability.The striking and fun paving zones SureSet installed feature four bright colours of;Lemon and limeTutti fruityAquaUltramarine blue.The colours were separated using straight aluminum edging provided by our supplier Dural UK Ltd. To keep it fun and interesting triangular shapes were incorporated into the design. These increate areas of abstract triangles were installed by hand using a hand float, to ensure the coloured resin bound glass had the best finish.

The Santo António Villas, Golf & Spa Resort (previously known as Parque da Floresta) is situated on the far West of the Algarve amongst hilly landscapes. The resort located near the historic town of Lagos, Portugal opened in 1987. It was designed by Pepe Gancedo who was one of Spain’s most famous Architects and has no two holes the same which attracts golfers to return again and again.This project included many different techniques which can be achieved using SureSet resin bound paving. The whole surface was first covered in primer and CRM (crack reduction membrane) to provide additional support to the tiled base below. The surround of the pool was laid in 3mm Popcorn along with a frame created with aluminium edging and 3mm Bronze Medal, a flower design was also installed using the flexible aluminium edging and colours from the Spectrum Range.

ADDACOLOR AND ADDASET RESIN BOUND WORLD MAP FOR PORTOBELLO SCHOOL COURTYARD

Addagrip Terraco approved contractor Resarf Flooring Ltd has completed a 3500m2 resin bound installation for the new High School in Portobello on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Using Addaset resin bound and Addacolor resin bound coloured surfacing the main feature was the creation of a distinctive world map design.The project funded by the City of Edinburgh Council includes a new building for 1,400 pupils at the site in Portobello Park, sympathetically designed by JM Architects with the landscape in mind.SURFACING REQUIREMENTThe new paving around the school needed to be low maintenance and durable with good slip resistance. The project also required a colourful durable surfacing product to create a resin bound map of the world to be installed adjacent to the Geography department for use during lessons. Designed in contrasting Addacolor Blue and Addaset Lucerne Silver, the map design sets off the area beautifully and should hopefully encourage the pupils to get outdoors and ‘see a bit of the world’. Addaset Lucerne Silver was also installed to the forecourt and rear courtyards of the school to provide a free draining natural silver granite effect surface to complement the colour of the new building.The new school opened to pupils in October 2016.
