The reservoir had an estimated 180 metres of cracks that needed repair, as well as the main element of the concrete that required coating to waterproof and add durability to the concrete structure. Gowriehill Distribution Service Reservoir is located in Dundee City and managed by Scottish Water. In late 2021, part of the reservoir tank construction was discovered to have a brittle asphalt waterproofing layer over the top of a beam and block roof. Fosroc proposed a solution that was easy to apply and provided a robust watertight finish and a 20 year warranty.

Our specially developed Bikehangars were first ordered by Lambeth Council and installed on their streets in February 2013. Woods Bagot’s scheme for 10 Trinity Square, nicknamed ‘the whirlpool’ after the glass canopy at its centre.10 Trinity Square was commissioned by the Port of London Authority in 1911 through an architectural competition won by Edwin Cooper. Completion of Cooper’s Beaux Arts design was delayed by the First World War (it was finished in 1922).Many of the original interior features were conserved while incorporating the servicing requirements of a modern hotel. As such, plaster ceilings, such as those situated in the south wing of the second floor, are being maintained and the original air vents may be used in the new HVAC strategy.For this development, Selo used the Una doors which are the solution for timber leaf risers. Una utilises a timber door leaf with a concealed metal frame. Made to suit custom sizes, provided as a flat-packed kit prepared for all ironmongery.

GOplastic Ltd were contacted by the Head of Estates and Campus Services Donna Vallance.The University’s requirements were for the supply of sustainable and environmentally friendly seating and tables for their London Campus buildings, based near India Dock in East London.A site meeting was agreed and proved to be extremely important for this project. The terrace had a narrow width which meant the correct size and arrangement of seating was essential.The terrace is on the 7th floor of the building, so this also needed considered planning in relation to delivery and installation.To overcome these challenges, GOplastic offered the Canvas Table and Canvas 120 benches. The Canvas bench and table are part of the Govaplast® range of award winning recycled plastic products. To create a Blob... CHALLENGE For the design of a Texaco service station on the highway near Antwerp the architect decided he wanted to create a Blob (Binary large objects) architectural design. The service station consists of three functional lobes that together look like an oil stain. The actual gas stations are covered with 4 lobe-shaped canopies. To accentuate this futuristic design the architect wanted to create liquid formed shapes in a metallic look. As the walls of the main building were planned using a polurea metallic finishing coating the architect sought a suitable compatible material to finish the rest of his Blob roof surfaces. SOLUTION Synthetic roofing membranes are the most flexible materials on the market and are suited to waterproof almost all possible roof shapes. For this particular project the silver coloured RENOLIT ALKORPLAN membrane was the best solution. This silver membrane is produced with a protective coating creating a roofing membrane that is easy to clean. The RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Metallic membranes combine excellent durability with added aesthetical appearance.

Designed and built by Balfour Beatty Construction, this new 6 bay station included community-orientated facilities, training facilities, rest rooms, additional office space and two staircases.In line with the client’s vision, Delta Balustrades were appointed by Balfour Beatty to design, supply and install handrails and balustrades to both staircases and an external balcony area. Combining a minimalistic look and feel with a high quality stainless steel finish, the Mono system with clear glass infill panels was chosen for the main staircase. For the rear stair and external areas, the Orbis system with powder coated uprights was chosen.

Just a stone’s throw from Baden-Baden’s famous festival hall, a trendy and exclusive hotel has opened its doors in the name of Hotel Roomers. The hotel’s rooftop bar is a stand-out feature. Its lightweight steel canopy connects to the main concrete structure with Schöck Isokorb® type KS elements to minimize thermal bridging in the construction. And when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, the stairwells are fitted with Schöck Tronsole® to stop impact sound transmissions and ensure a restful stay. The building itself is a hotel, medical centre and apartment block all in one, and its radiant white facade complete with full-height windows creates a striking effect. But the real highlight is how the facade changes its appearance depending on the guests decision to shut out the light in their rooms using the integrated window shading systems. It is not just the facade design that makes this hotel so special, but also its energy concept, which is testament to its ambitious efficiency targets. A crucial component of this concept involved minimising thermal bridges, which were a concern in the hotel’s landmark cantilevered entrance canopy. Without the Schöck Isokorb® type KS elements, it would have been difficult – if not impossible – to build the cantilevered element so efficiently and to decouple the structurally challenging thermal bridge at the point of connection between the freely cantilevered steel girders and the reinforced concrete slabs. All stairwells within the hotel feature the Schöck Tronsole®, which allow it to live up to the high expectations of the investors and building owner Franz Bernhard Wagner in terms of both energy-saving aspects and – of course – sound proofing.

Childcare Center, Bruges CHALLENGE Day after day, De Kleine Wereld (The Small World), a building complex composed of 4 separate blocks, is buzzing with activity. Hardly surprising, since this Social Welfare building has been housing a childcare centre for many years. As the building was expanded with a modern new-build extension, it was decided to replace the roof of the existing building as well. After barely 10 years the weathered zinc roof with a solar panel installation was ready for refurbishment. It looked as if the carrier system for the PV panels on the zinc roof could not withstand the high wind load: the zinc had been torn o from roof structure. This resulted in moisture and condensation problems in the building below. Owner, Mintus, was looking for a durable, waterproof and aesthetic solution for the curved roof, and, above all, a reliable system for installing photovoltaics. For the architect it was important that the appearance of the existing metal roof was somehow preserved, preferably with a slightly more modern touch. In-addition there was an important practical issue as well: under no circumstances could the childcare facility be moved to another location during the refurbishment works. So, fi re safety was paramount as well. SOLUTION Building owner, Mintus, fi nally opted for the mechanically fi xed PVC-P roofi ng membrane RENOLIT ALKORPLAN F. The main and decisive reason behind this choice was the innovative RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Solar system, a secure, ultralight and versatile carrier system for mounting photovoltaics. RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Solar has been active on the market for over 10 years without the slightest issue. Direct proof of the reliability and durability of this unique RENOLIT system. For Mintus, the benefi ts were clear.

Charlotte and her family have always enjoyed living in their Edwardian terraced home in Wimbledon, although after spending lockdown with their two young daughters, they realised they needed more indoor space. The couple decided to complete a rear extension to create more space. It was a project specific requirement that the roof was designed with falls within the slab in order to avoid any ponding water.SolutionsThe design and implementation of a site wide blue roof ensured the development’s contribution to mitigating flood risk in the UK, supporting the protection of England’s waterways. Modelled over a 300 year period, the blue roof design is future proofed in terms of its provision for likely climate change and increases in predicted peak rainfall events.Wilotekt-Plus, second generation hot melt structural waterproofing system, was installed as the Air and Vapour Control Layer (AVCL), which provided an extremely robust waterproof structure during the external envelope and superstructure construction phase. Hytherm ADH thermal insulation and Force Dalle bitumen membrane with anti-root technology were later installed to complete the waterproofing and insulation system.Upon final QA inspection and integrity testing of the roof waterproofing works, the Aquamodul blue roof system, bespoke Hydrosoil Wildflower living roof and standard ballast finishes were installed in conjunction with a Solar PV array, which generated the majority of the building’s electrical energy requirements.

During the design and specification stage of the Metroline washroom installation contract, Lan Services considered the fact that the products chosen would have to be installed within washrooms of varying sizes and layouts. Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service recently commissioned Norwich-based Cooks Industrial Doors to replace failing vehicle access doors at Long Melford Fire Station in rural Suffolk. As a major reseller and installer, Cooks contacted Jewers Doors to design and manufacture state-of-the-art sliding-folding doors which would replicate the style of the original doors.
