Designed and built by Balfour Beatty Construction, this new 6 bay station included community-orientated facilities, training facilities, rest rooms, additional office space and two staircases.In line with the client’s vision, Delta Balustrades were appointed by Balfour Beatty to design, supply and install handrails and balustrades to both staircases and an external balcony area. Combining a minimalistic look and feel with a high quality stainless steel finish, the Mono system with clear glass infill panels was chosen for the main staircase. For the rear stair and external areas, the Orbis system with powder coated uprights was chosen.

The architects contacted Q-railing to inquire about a glass railing that would allow maximum light into the master bedroom and enable uninterrupted views of the garden. Q-railing recommended a fascia mount balustrade on the balcony using its Easy Glass MOD 0747 stand-off railing system and a 40 x 40 mm cap rail. The internal staircase is equipped with Q-railing’s 42.4 mm stainless handrails and MOD 0148 off-set stainless brackets. Outside, the elegant Easy Glass Pro glass balustrade was installed.

Challenges included satisfying the requirements of TfL due to the tube line running immediately above, as well as the venue’s request to have a space to trade in during construction work.The result is a chic hospitality space with a sliding roof that offers options for open airiness or full enclosure from the elements. The roof also offers significant soundproofing, reducing impact on neighbours on their most lively nights. The transformation means that the venue can offer their delicious cocktails, and pizzas that have to be tasted to be believed, underneath an elevated and stylish roof that will help draw diners and revellers for years to come.

The early 20th century saw the development of a distinct architectural movement often termed ‘Stripped Classicism’. Running in tandem with the Modernist Movement of the Bauhaus School, the movement strove for bold massings, severe angles and a stylised reduction of classical elements. This style was frequently chosen by governments when designing official buildings.Perhaps the best known example of this type of architecture in the UK is the Grade II Listed Waltham Forest Town Hall, the headquarters of the London Borough of Waltham Forest Town Council. Designed by architect Philip Hepworth, construction of the building began in 1938 but was interrupted by the Second World War and so not completed until 1942. In 2019 the council approved an extensive programme of renovation works to the Town Hall which included the replacement of all the original steel windows. Clement W20 steel windows were chosen as the right product for their quality. The new white windows include both top hung and side hung opening casements with complementary fittings in a dark bronze finish.Senior Project Manager at Waltham Forest Town Hall John Cattermole said:“The team at Clement provided a great service in supplying new windows as part of the Town Hall refurbishment. Very specific aesthetic and energy performance criteria needed to be met when it came to the window replacement. The W20 windows supplied by Clement were able to meet all of these requirements.  Despite the project being on site at the height of the pandemic, the windows were delivered to programme which enabled seamless installation. Now the building has been brought back into use really positive feedback has been received from both staff and visitors.”

The window specification was for a White chamfered profile that could achieve an overall U value of 1.4 W/m2K. SBD accreditation was a requirement AND PAS24. The site’s location near a busy road meant acoustic glazing was required on some elevations. Trickle vents were required on some windows, including those with acoustic glazing requirements, which meant non-standard acoustic trickle vents were required.

Linework Architects imaginative use of architectural glass rooflights was key to transforming this period north London property. Lineworks director, Robert Haworth collaborated with Glazing Vision with the objective of delivering natural daylight and a touch of glamour to some tricky spaces whilst maintaining privacy where needed.The design brief for the project called for an ultra-minimalist final finish, so it was important that all of the glazing featured minimal framework and a clean integration with the building fabric itself.Glazing Visions philosophy of minimum framework, maximum daylight was the preferred solution and met all of the design requirements, providing enough flexibility to tackle the various challenges that the scheme presented. The property comprises of three stories with a mixture of extensions added to increase usable living space, the problem with this is that some of these areas can be starved of natural daylight, making them gloomy and uninviting, in order to combat this, several types of rooflight needed to be specified to tackle each of the areas.Beginning on the ground floor, a wrap around extension has been created featuring a modern and contemporary kitchen dining area leading on to the garden. A large set of sliding glass doors provides natural daylight and access to the outdoor space, but their effectiveness at delivering enough daylight is limited as you go deeper into the building where it would begin to feel darker and more claustrophobic.To address this, a Glazing Vision modular rooflight system measuring over six metres in length runs along the entire length of the extension, this unit is fixed structurally to the original wall of the building creating the feeling of a ‘glass roof’ when transitioning from the original building to the new. Manufacturing the unit in three sections allowed it to be successfully maneuvered on site without the use for an expensive crane and the structural silicone joints between the sections maintained the frameless appearance needed to compliment the minimalist interior.“All three rooflights were quite tricky to install because the property was a terraced house and there was no ability to use a crane. Somehow the team got them in!” Robert Haworth, Director, Linework Architects.The creation of a second storey extension was essential to provide a large family bathroom space, but this meant that the stairwell leading to it was another area potentially starved of natural daylight. Installing a rooflight overhead was a logical solution, but this was complicated by the position of the stairwell being located beneath two opposing pitched roofs. An off the shelf solution would not be acceptable as any rooflight installed above would need to be designed to accommodate this tricky detail.As rooflight specialists, Glazing Vision were able to design and manufacture a custom shaped fixed Flushglaze unit specifically for this part of the building.Therefore maximising the amount of overhead glazing and thus lighting the stairwell sufficiently so that it can be used safely without the need for artificial lighting. Perhaps one of the most quirky and inventive parts of this renovation is the use of glazing in the bathroom, the client had specified a large walk-in shower area which was easily achievable given the space available but would have resulted in the shower being located in a dark corner of the room necessitating the use of artificial lighting. Natural daylight is critical when attempting to achieve a minimalist scheme, so Linework Architects wanted to ensure that this element was carried through to all corners of the building.“We were trying to make a really exceptional bathroom space, so we decided to use the Eaves Rooflight, and play with the glass transparencies.” Robert Haworth, Director, Linework Architects.The resulting installation delivers a floor to ceiling vertical glass window section which transitions into the roof seamlessly with no additional framework, this creative solution provides a unique design element to the bathroom and the much-needed daylight to open up the space. Being a bathroom, privacy also had to be addressed, particularly in the shower area! Glazing Vision recommended the use of opaque satin etched glass which provides enough translucency to allow light to permeate, but also presents a frosted glass finish sparing the blushes of anyone using the shower.Taking around five months to complete, this was not a straightforward scheme to deliver, however the end result can be considered transformative. Linework Architects uncompromising and inventive use of glass rooflights has proved incredibly successful in this project and contributed greatly to the feeling of light, air, and space in this minimalist haven.

Thornsett Group, working with architects Capital Architecture, has recently converted the property into five luxury residences, plus ground floor retail space. We were appointed to design, supply and install 26 traditional box sash windows for the main elevation, with an acoustic performance of 45 dB Rw. For the rear of the property we provided 24 inward-opening timber tilt and turn windows, plus lift and slide patio doors.

Replacing the primary windows was not permitted, so our client needed to look at a different solution to gain the thermal performance required.The windows were large sashes, requiring heavy duty frames with tilt facility, providing simple access to the primary windows for cleaning and maintenance. An unusual and bespoke feature of this project was - at the architect’s request - trickle vents installed in the bottom of the secondary glazing track.The end result is that, without any visible sign of works “Replacing the primary windows was not permitted” being done, tenants would experience comfort levels that match modern day double glazing, even though their windows are over 100 years old.

Timber Window Project: Restoring Charm to a Matlock CottageDiscover how Gowercroft successfully transformed Robert Jones's quaint stone cottage in Matlock with high-quality timber windows and doors.A Challenging Derbyshire CottageWhen Robert Jones approached Gowercroft for his cottage renovation in Matlock, they faced an intriguing challenge. His 200-square-meter, 5-bedroom cottage nestled into a Derbyshire hillside, offering stunning countryside views. The property had three stories at the front but only one at the rear, with the ground floor patio situated atop an integral garage.Robert aimed to breathe new life into the neglected property by undertaking a comprehensive refit, including new electrics, bathrooms, stairs, carpets, roofing, garage, and replacement doors and windows. He sought a renovation that honoured the local aesthetics, using durable traditional materials like English slate for the roof and energy-efficient timber windows and patio doors to maximise the scenic vistas.Meeting the ChallengeAccess to the property posed a considerable challenge due to its location on a sharp bend with a steep incline at the end of a winding country road. The installation of oversized windows and doors seemed daunting, but Gowercroft embraced the challenges with creative solutions.Gowercroft crafted and installed eleven Hardwick flush casement windows, a Peveril lift and slide patio door, two floor-to-ceiling fixed light windows, an Accoya® front door, and a timber Melbourne stable door at the side. The lift and slide patio doors and glazed screens had to feature 6mm-thick glass to ensure structural integrity, making each unit weigh approximately 200 kilograms.Given the size and weight of the units, manual handling was impractical. Gowercroft enlisted a specialist contractor with a telehandler to navigate the steep drive and hoist the units into place. Additional personnel joined the effort."The job demanded teamwork, meticulous planning, and coordination with the ongoing building work as we removed the old windows and adjusted the existing openings," Robert explained.Exceeding ExpectationsThroughout the installation, unforeseen challenges arose, including the need to cut away patio paving slabs blocking the original patio doors and repositioning the door frame to accommodate the new Accoya® front door. Gowercroft even provided window boards for the new openings.Robert praised the Gowercroft team for their exceptional dedication and problem-solving attitude, stating, "I can't speak highly enough of the Gowercroft team. They tackled every obstacle and challenge with a 'can-do' spirit."Gowercroft's commitment to quality craftsmanship and their ability to navigate complex installations allowed Robert Jones to transform his Matlock cottage into a charming and energy-efficient retreat that perfectly complements its picturesque surroundings.

It was the pretty garden and view of the house from the driveway that first drew retired couple Melanie and Phil to what is now their much-loved home of ten years.The property has four bedrooms and two bathrooms and, though it sits within a conservation area, it is not listed. The house was originally three dwellings, each with an entrance door at the front and staircases behind the fireplaces. In the 1970s the houses were converted to a single dwelling and an extension was added at the back to house a single staircase, hall, landing and main bathroom. When the couple bought the house, it had old single glazed windows and doors, some of which were rotten. Since moving in Melanie did their best to persevere with the old glazing because it suited the cottage, but in the end decided to update it earlier this year. The couple wanted a solution that fitted with the character and age of Long Cottage, but also wanted it to feel cosier, warmer and more energy efficient. They decided on triple glazed Rationel windows and doors. They chose Rationel FORMAPLUS alu-clad triple glazed windows and doors in two finishes – cream for the outside and white inside. ‘We liked the fact they were maintenance free, but had the look of wooden units to tie in with the character of the cottage and the surrounding village properties,’ says Phil.While energy efficiency was a key reason for choosing triple glazing, they also wanted to reduce noise as much as possible – Brize Norton airbase is nearby. The couple are especially pleased with the windows in the bedrooms – which now meet industry safety standards for evacuation in case of a fire – and in the sitting room.‘The sitting room is in an end gable next to the road,’ says Melanie, ‘and the new triple-glazed unit has made it so much quieter and cosier than it was before.’

Mono M311 Glass Infill Top FixThrough the early design stages of this impressive project, Delta Balustrades worked closely with the Liverpool based architects to develop the specification, design and technical details of the balustrade system.As one of the main features of the building, the Mono balustrade system to stairs, atriums, and external terraces with its minimalistic and subtle appearance, transformed the architect’s vision into reality.To meet requirements for buildings designed for children a lower handrail at 600mm above pitch line was required to the stair balustrades and the glass infill panels were required to extend to 1500mm above FFL and stair pitch line.On site close cooperation with the main contractor was necessary to conceal the baluster fixings below the finished floor level in line with the architect’s specification. Externally, this required an early fix of the balustrades without the glass infills, to enable the contractor to complete the waterproofing in view of subsequent trades progressing.

The homes were built using local stone which meant standard white windows wouldn’t match its high-end appearance. The developers also needed windows that came with high performing benefits such as thermal efficiency, security, all while remaining maintenance-free. Using our in-house spray shop, Charisma Rose was specified in a solid cream option that complimented the stonework beautifully. The trickle vents were also colour matched to seamlessly blend in with the windows and keep the luxury charm of the buildings. A traditional astragal bar grid was picked to match Georgian architecture as well as run through horns and a 2/3 unequal split for the ground floor. This project ran smoothly providing more than 50 sash windows over seven dwellings. All windows were manufactured and delivered on time and snag-free, meaning there was no impact on the developers schedules.

Based in London, this home’s original black timber windows had rotted due to many years of natural weathering. The homeowners wanted replacement windows that would match their existing sightlines but provide modern thermal performance, save them maintenance costs in the future and enhance security. Because of this, the homeowners explored the timber alternative UPVC option and found our Heritage Rose sash window. Heritage Rose provides ‘A’ rated thermal efficiency and modern security levels as standard but can achieve the slim, authentic sightlines traditional to the original sashes. Using our in-house spray shop, we were able to replicate the home’s original sashes by spraying them black with a woodgrain textured finish. Even with a coloured finish, the homeowners can enjoy maintenance free benefits without the worry of future restoration costs. The windows were finished with a singular vertical astragal bar configuration to match the Victorian period styling of the property and a traditional deep bottom rail. The homeowners would also continue to save money for years to come on heating and maintenance bills.

This Edwardian home was transformed inside and out in 2021. Part of the renovation included changing the original single glazed, draughty timber sash windows. The sashes were previously painted shut to minimise heat loss, but this was proving both inconvenient and ineffective. The homeowners wanted to find replacement windows that were indistinguishable from their original timbers but in a low maintenance form that offered significantly better security and thermal efficiency. Having spent months looking around for the right solution, the homeowners found Roseview and, specifically, Ultimate Rose. Being the most authentic window on the timber-alternative market, they would match their original timber sashes like for like but with this maintenance free alternative. The windows were finished in a chalk white texture with an Edwardian astragal bar design, seamless run-through horns, deep cills, Secure by Design accreditation and shark fin limit stops throughout. Additionally, Ultimate Rose comes with ‘A’ rated energy efficiency as standard. For the homeowners, this means lower heating bills month-to-month and a reduced carbon footprint. Heighington Hall | Helping To Restore A Grade II* Listed HomeMr & Mrs Anderson’s period home had some sash windows and a period door that were cold and draughty, and some windows that were completely stuck shut. But as the owner of a stunning Grade II* Listed property in Heighington, Darlington, they were only too aware of their responsibility to protect their home’s heritage. So, when they saw Ventrolla recommended by Sarah Beeny on the television about her home, Rise Hall, they got in touch.This was back in 2017, and we’ve continued to work on their beautiful house ever since, phasing the work over the past five years.Phase oneThe first project we completed was for the sash windows in two of the bedrooms. Both were sealed shut, so following a survey, we completed renovation works including sill repair and replacement, incorporating our innovative Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System to eliminate draughts, and our Sash Removal System (SRS), so that any future decorating or repairs could be completed effortlessly. Both windows were completed with antique brass hardware, to complement existing fittings in the property.Phase twoIn 2018, The Anderson’s contacted us again. This time to complete work on their master bedroom window. This 6 by 6 pane Georgian sash window required extensive repair work, rail and sill replacement, and again we incorporated our unique draught-proofing and SRS systems.We also surveyed a pair of French doors for restoration – in the end, Mr & Mrs Anderson decided that they would prefer replacement doors made, rather than repairs carried out. As these were an exact, like-for-like replica of the existing doors in their home, Listed Building Consent wasn’t required. We crafted stunning timber French doors to mirror the originals, creating a seamless look and feel ­– including glass specially chosen to blend strength with the subtly ‘distorted’ look of old, heritage glazing.Following the works carried out, Mrs Anderson went on to review Ventrolla on independent review website, Trustpilot, rating Ventrolla 5-stars and commenting:“Excellent workmen. Pleased with product and will recommend.”Ventrolla replicated the existing Georgian timber doors, hand crafting new versions in their workshop.Phase threeWe were delighted to hear from The Anderson’s again in 2019 – and undertook restoration work on two of the property’s dining room windows. A complex project, due to foliage on the exterior restricting access, our team worked to release stuck sashes and restore them to their former glory. The works in this phase also included new joinery elements – replicating the existing single-glazed sashes with new versions, hand crafted by Ventrolla, in their Harrogate workshop.Phase fourMost recently, this year we were brought in to help Mr & Mrs Anderson again – to refurbish, draught-proof and craft new sashes for a sash window in a bathroom. Repairing the sash box and providing replacement sashes, we completed the window works with polished brass hardware.Mrs Anderson commented:“Once again, I was very pleased with all aspects of Ventrolla’s work. The team were reliable, polite and tidy – and my new windows look excellent. They’ve made the room warmer and less draughty.”Heighington Hall was thought to have been built in the early 17th century, and the home has many stunning Georgian features of the time, such as the twelve-pane sash windows, the sandstone front exterior and detailed stonework with fluted pilasters, dosserets and a scrolled pediment around the door. On this office refurbishment the original windows were non-thermally broken aluminium and for that reason not suitable for a residential tenancy.With the windows being on the 12th floor it would have been extremely difficult and expensive to replace them - due to scaffolding etc. Therefore, after a recommendation, the client decided to source Incarnation secondary glazing.As an office refurbishment in a busy built-up area, noise reduction was a key consideration. Using a hidden coupling bar between two units was a key feature, allowing the secondary glazing to match the sightlines of the original windows perfectly. By installing the secondary glazing with an air gap of 150mm between it and the existing window resulted in an impressive decibel reduction.
