Door cylinders were also bespoke as an additional length was required to accommodate the unusual frame thickness.Design required to adapt stable door details to accommodate panic bolt hardware for garden area.The bell boy entrance door was a particularly unusual detail for Lomax + Wood with a bespoke aluminium cover with circular cut outs, manufactured to cover the timber door behind.Overall the project was challenging but Lomax + Wood specialise in producing high performance, made-to-order timer windows and doors to meet our clients specification and aesthetic requirements. Jesus Church had Selectaglaze secondary glazing installed by partner Fenestral, to raise the thermal efficiency of its thirteen lancet shaped stained glass windows in the north and south walls. The heating of the church is run on an antiquated oil-fired system which takes time to warm up the building. Once heated, a great deal of the energy was lost through the original windows. Special timber grounds were produced with enlarged gothic curved heads. By fitting the units nearer to the reveal, the primary windows are beautifully framed and the 13, Series 41 side hung casements have clearance to open.

The congregation at Grade II Listed St Patricks Church in Bolton, can worship without interruptions from the neighbouring bus interchange, with the installation of acoustic secondary glazing. 4 large gothic arched stained glass clerestory windows were treated with internal glazed units, stopping the ingress of the sound of stationary busses which can create 70-80dB. However the tricky window was the large chancery window overlooking the altar as 4.3m (h) x 3m (w). When now inside the church, the congregation would never know there is a bus interchange just outside; the acoustic secondary glazing treatment has worked miracles.

The Grade II Listed Victorian Tamworth Assembly Rooms had secondary glazing installed by Selectaglaze as part of a multi-million-pound project to refurbish and restore the much respected theatre. A solution was required to insulate the single glazed original arched casement windows in the auditorium to provide suitable acoustic and thermal insulation. Selectaglaze’s Series 41 side hung casement secondary glazing was specified with 6.4mm glass to each of the windows, matching the sightlines and providing full access to the originals for cleaning and maintenance.

The canvas was auctioned to raise money for NHS charities and organisations, raising a total £16.8m.Part of these funds have been used to improve the facilities, and this is where Landscape Architects Strata Design and West End Construction were engaged, to design and build a rooftop oasis for all the hospital staff, to have a place to enjoy and unwind.Solution: Working collaboratively and having surveyed the site where a window was to be turned into a door, FAAC Entrance Solutions proposed a framed SL500 bi-parting sliding door, in order to both maximise the opening width as well as keep the natural light into the building. Being a staff restricted area, access control was also a must, so this was integrated with existing staff passes to facilitate swipe access and with our QFlow traffic light system which regulates occupancy. The SL500’s framed system is a robust resilient door, making it perfect to manage high volumes of traffic as well Southampton coastal wind loads. You’ve likely seen the work of Charlie Davis amongst the pages of your favourite home renovation magazines. A Sussex-based Freelance Stylist specialising in interiors, Charlie has more recently turned her attention to the renovation of a double-fronted Victorian property. This outstanding example of 19th Century architecture will become a Location House, which with Charlie’s creative vision will be available for hire for photo shoots, tv, film and events.The spare room of the house was to become the perfect photography backdrop, reminiscent of perfectly imperfect Venetian plaster. The walls and cornicing would be decorated to replicate a historic limewash finish, a trend we continue to see grow in popularity.Charlie spoke with Amie Paxton, Technical Sales Advisor for KEIM Mineral Paints, on how to create the perfect finish. With just a handful of inspiration photographs, Amie produced a selection of sample boards combining award-winning KEIM Innostar with KEIM Restauro Lasur, a colourwash similar in appearance to limewash and just as breathable but composed of mineral pigments and potassium silicate for a permanent chemical bond.Charlie opted for KEIM Innostar 9314 with KEIM Restauro Lasur 9529 for the walls and KEIM Innostar 9255 with KEIM Restauro Lasur 9249 for the decorative cornice, commenting on receipt of the mock ups; “the samples look absolutely gorgeous, they are just what we wanted.”Armed with KEIM’s Oval Brush and with minimum application guidance, Charlie created an authentic looking and elegant limewash finish throughout the spare room of her Location House, available to hire via 07.crescent_locationhouse on Instagram.The process of creating a limewash finish onto any interior mineral substrate, whether previously painted or bare, is much easier than you may think and can be as simple as just two coats of paint. The village of Papekop is located in the west of the province of Utrecht, surrounded on three sides by the province of South Holland.Here, in collaboration with Arco Architecten Bna, a stylish barn house is fitted with two louver systems. By Sunshield.The entire facade on the southwest is made of glass, and has a surface area of 34 m2. The ground floor is equipped with a rectangular slat system. On the second floor, the louver system begins as a rectangle, but ends at the top of the ridge triangular.Each system is operated by a motor with remote control, so independently of each other.The residents have opted for the 96-E louver. A blade with a modern, sleek design and a width of 96 mm. When the slats are fully open, the view between the louvers is 90 mm. The residents can then fully enjoy the rural panorama from their residence.The aluminum components are powder coated in RAL 9004, signal black. The plastic parts are black.

The Old War Office is a magnificent refurbishment of Winston Churchill's headquarters during the World War II. The sensitive restoration of this Grade 2 historic building includes a 125-room world class Raffles Hotel and 85 luxury residences, along with restaurants, exclusive bars, a Spa and Wellness centre. Referred to as London’s anticipated destination, this architectural landmark opens its doors to the public in Summer 2023.RYNO’s involvement in the scheme included providing the paving and substructure to the Centre triangle Courtyard and the Penthouse Roof Terraces. The triangle Courtyard was finished with a RYNO Quadro porcelain range and supported on our TerraSmart Rail system. The system uses a double lattice structure to provide superior support to the pavers even around the complex curves of the planters on the courtyard and penthouse terraces. The design and detailing of the build-ups from concept to completion has been brilliant, fully complementing the building’s magnificent heritage and unique character.RYNO worked very closely with The Gardenists to ensure the rail layout and build-ups were designed to absolute perfection. Seeing is believing and as Calvin Dalrymple, Specification Manager at RYNO, testifies “to come to the site and see the results…, they really just speak for themselves. Normandy Bin Bays manufactured from recycled plastic; encouraging recycling and keeping communal bin bay areas tidy. A win-win for Stoke City Housing.GOplastic Ltd were contacted by Ruth Smith the former Landscape Architect for the Landscape Team at City of Stoke-on-Trent Council to look into a solution for their communal bin bay areas.Ruth was considering specifying our Normandy Bin Bay system for the Mier Estate neighbourhood project which is located to the south east of the North Staffordshire conurbation.There are many solutions for bin bay storage using brickwork, timber and recycled plastic. Recycled plastic bin bays have many advantages. They are supplied fully assembled and ready to install. No labour intensive brick work, no holes excavated for posts, and no maintenance plans are required after installation. The panels won’t rot or splinter and are very easily cleaned. At site meetings anchorage options were discussed to ensure that the bin bays could be fitted onto hard standing or into the ground with extended posts if required. The bin bays at 1.5 metres high allow for 240 litre household wheelie bins to be used, and the 1.8m high panels for larger 1100 litre bins if required.For communal storage adjacent to apartment buildings, this recycled plastic bin bay solution provided open storage for a number of bins. Bygga Construction extended this magnificent London family home to include a master suite and guest wing. As part of the project the basement was dug out to create a massive family room, complete with wine cellar. Three Clement double steel door sets were included in the design for the rear elevation. Not only do these create a stunning feature but they allow plenty of natural light into the increased family living space.

• Location: Thornton House Apartment Tower Block, Birmingham • Contractor: Assured Passive Fire Protection • Challenge: Fire protection required on timber batons around the windows. • Solution: Applying Zeroflame Fire Retardant Treatment on the batons to achieve Class 0 spread of flame and fire propagation as required by building control. Zeroflame Treatment didn't take long to dry between coats, it was very simple to use and it is fully tested and certified for building control.

BH2 is a £30m development creating a newly-constructed leisure complex in Bournemouth  •  Originally a two acre NCP car park and bus station, main contractors Vinci has built a new 10 screen Odeon Multiplex cinema, café, casino, restaurant and retail complex.  •  Structura was appointed to design and supply Kalwall translucent facades to enclose the external fire escape routes around the perimeter of the building.  •  Structura installed multiple Kalwall translucent elevations, totalling over 1000m2, providing natural daylight to internal areas by day and a soft ethereal glow which brings the area to life at night.The SolutionPanter Hudspith Architects replaced the original curtain wall and specified Kalwall® for the front elevation. Unusually, this unique translucent cladding is fitted with a tight 150mm wide grid, known as Verti-Kal™, which not only serves to emphasise height but is the first of its type in the UK. On this scheme the Kalwall panels also insulate to 0.78 w/m2 making the building eye-catching and sustainable.Unlike conventional glazing, Kalwall eliminates shadows and glare and the stark contrasts of light and shade. The system also enhances simplicity by eliminating the need for blinds, curtains or solar control. Even on cloudy days, the interior is bathed with natural daylight, which means less artificial lighting and, because Kalwall is highly insulating, energy costs are reduced.Kalwall is increasingly being used in the UK for new buildings and also for the refurbishment of cladding or rooflights on aged buildings. We've been working with Caerphilly County Borough Council since 2010. Like many Local Education Authorities, they'd previously used plastic finger guards but grew frustrated with the lack of durability and need for frequent replacements. They tried a number of different plastic options but none were up to the job in a modern high traffic school environment – which is where we came in. The discreet design of our integral finger guards design out the problem of trapped fingers, as well as helping incorporate flexibility into the building design, embracing the school's culture and ethos of community and support.

LAMILUX designed, supplied and installed eight LAMILUX Glass Roof PR60 mono-pitch rooflights at Oundle School Sports Centre. Seven of the rooflights, were positioned over the 50 metre swimming pool, adding an abundance of natural light, with special sun protective glazing to eliminate overheating. A special coating was applied to the aluminium profiles to protect them from corrosion within the chlorine environment. The eighth rooflight, an 18m x 6m trapeze shape, illuminates the atrium at the flagship of the school’s sports masterplan.

Wedding ceremonies are made more peaceful in the Grade II and II* Listed Reading Town Hall following acoustic secondary glazing adaptations to block noise from the town centre. 23 units were installed. Each gothic arch was treated with a combination of transom coupled secondary glazed units with a Series 42 curved fixed light system affixed at the top. Series 10 horizontal sliding units were specified for the lower units on the wider windows, whereas the Series 45 side hung casement was selected for the narrower windows. 6.4mm acoustic laminate glass was specified which reduced noise levels by 40-45dB.

Having outgrown their previous offices, Smoove – a company operating in the property sector (formerly ULS) – took the decision to take on three floors at Masters Court; a fully refurbished office building in the quaint town of Thame, Oxfordshire. They swiftly appointed HNB and Leap Architects to deliver an overhaul of the dated interior that would better suit the Smoove team.We were approached to deliver a glass moving wall capable of separating the ground floor kitchen and main open plan space when required. Our Type G200 system was chosen, which provides transfer of natural light when partition is closed while simultaneously stopping the transfer of noise.The minimalist manifestations applied to the glazed panels along with their black painted frames have been designed to match a number of fixed glass partitions within the space, offering a consistent design throughout.

About Everyman CinemasEveryman Cinemas aim to put luxury back into the cinema experience, with sofas, in house cocktail shakers and meals eaten screenside. Their interiors draw heavily on 1960s design with classic G-plan furniture and mad men-esque mood lighting. They have a history of taking often neglected buildings and turning them into beautiful spaces to watch films. Their flagship cinema opened in 2000 in the Hampstead Theatre, which was previously threatened with closure. Today it is a vibrant space that pays homage to the notable performers Noel Coward and Jacinto Benavente who both performed there in the 1920s. They also recently took over the UKs longest running cinema in Islington, which has been in operation since 1913.About Simons GroupEveryman’s director stated ‘First and foremost, we are about doing cinema really, really well, and about getting people to fall in love with our venues’ – and their Liverpool venue is a building to fall in love with. It sits in the iconic Metquarter, which was recently revamped by the Simons Group. Originally built as the headquarters of Liverpool’s general post office, the building is reminiscent of a French 18th century design. Simons has done much to retain the charm of this iconic building, keeping the hand-carved façade and pillars. These have been in place since 1899 and were one of the only parts of the building to survive heavy bombing during the blitz. They were the work of Liverpudlian and Scottish sculptors Edward Griffiths and Willaim Bernie Rhind whose sculptures can still be seen today at war memorials across Scotland.The Everyman Cinema covers 18,000 square feet, with a further 20,000 square feet for luxury shopping and restaurants. Simons has modernised this previously neglected space, creating streets in the sky by opening up two terraces overlooking Liverpool’s town center.About CMS DanskinCMS Danskin are experts in acoustics and vibration isolation solutions. The company is best known for working on well known buildings such as the Shard and the Natural History Museum. They also have strong links to Liverpool, as they created the flooring for ‘A Hard Days Night’ – the official Beatles themed hotel. This involved the extra challenge of insulating the sound of conference rooms from the sound of raucous tribute acts and guests.The ProblemEveryman Cinemas pride themselves on providing a luxury cinema experience for their viewers. With ticket prices increasing to around £16 a time, it’s a priority that their sound is of as high quality as their cocktails and sofas. On the whole, films are getting louder which means increased vibration from screen room to screen room. The popularity of loud superhero and action movies is bad news for those wanting to enjoy a romcom or a period drama in peace. The floor specification was designed to attenuate the airborne sound created in each cinema along with isolating vibration caused from low base frequencies.The SolutionIt was important that CMS Danskin found a technique that would stop sound and vibration within the screen rooms, to avoid transmission to other cinema rooms. To do this, CMS Danskin worked with Gillieron Scott Acoustic Design. This group are experts in theatre sound insulation who have worked on the Apollo Theatre and the Theatre Royal in London.The floor system was designed with a target of 14Hz or better (lower) for the discreet floating floor pads. This system also required a 75mm airspace below the floating floor element of the cinema. The system comprised 50mm pads with 25mm timber battens to achieve the required void height and this supported three layers of cement particle board. The thickness and mass of the cement particle board and pads were designed to isolate the airborne and vibration caused by low frequency bass sound.The ResultWorking with the Dead Load and Live Load provided to CMS Danskin Acoustics, they exceeded the 14Hz goal set by the Everyman Cinema. Former Terry's Chocolate Factory in York is transformed into a spectacular Care Village with the help of Johnstone's Trade. The landmark building is Grade II listed and, after a number of years lying unused and unloved was brought back to life using Johnstone’s Trade’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt and Acrylic Durable Matt. Applied to the walls and ceilings of the interior building, making it ideal for high traffic areas. In addition, Johnstone’s Water Based Undercoat and Gloss were used for the trim and window frames, providing a high sheen finish that will stay whiter for longer.
