A not-for-profit community food business in Sheffield has been reflecting on its success over the past year and praising the support of an addition to the team that allowed them to meet overwhelming demand. Regather, in Highfield, has been established for over a decade and is a sustainable, worker-owned community benefit society, run with co-operative values. With the help of its 15 acre market garden, the team sells fruit and vegetable boxes made up of local produce, by local workers. The BriefAs demand for the fruit and veg boxes grew – space became a premium. Initially, a marquee was put up to extend space outside the building, but this was not a suitable long term solution.‘It came to a point where we either needed to move premises or look for other solutions to reconfigure the building’ says Gareth Roberts founder of Regather. ‘Due to the pandemic moving the business was not a viable option. After much consideration, we decided to repurpose the event space upstairs into another working area. The problem then was getting the 600 – 700kg of produce safely between floors’.The ChallengeRegather only had a very small area for a goods lift to be installed due to the main entrance and a staircase. Goods Lift Design Engineer Umar Lodhi was up to the task and created a MezzLift design that not only fits the space but does not block the entrance to the building when the doors were open. ‘Special thanks to Umar Lodhi, the designer who worked with us to make the lift fit within our restrictive space,’ says Gareth.Another challenge faced by both Regather and Penny Hydraulics was the installation of goods lift during the pandemic. Engineering firm Tedd Engineering recently expanded into a new unit due to the sustained success of its bespoke advanced control units. Penny Hydraulics were approached to design, manufacture and install a lifting solution to move components between floor level and their mezzanine where many of the products are made. A MezzLight was specified as the ideal solution for Tedd Engineering’s moving and handling problem. With a safe working load of 250kg providing more than enough lifting capacity for the task at hand, its interlocked door system and hold-to-run operation the MezzLight was a safe and efficient solution.

To help meet the people and goods movement needs throughout the station and the integral Grand Central Birmingham Shopping Centre (formerly the Pallasades), Stannah Escalators & Moving Walkways joined forces with Stannah Major Projects to supply, install and commission 41 lift and escalator products, including bespoke models, to ensure step-free Access for All (AfA) throughout – whilst keeping the station fully operational.

The Lift 109 viewpoint designed by Ralph Appelbaum Associates has opened within the rebuilt chimney of Battersea Power Station in London. We manufactured and installed a concrete reception desk for the Lift 109 Experience reception area which is located in the Power Station’s magnificent Art Deco Turbine Hall A.Living Concrete team used an innovative concrete application technique to create custom-built reception desk for our client Beck Interiors. MicroConcrete fluted tiles in Willow Green colour were cladded onto MDF frame, seamlessly achieving a very complex and detailed design. Hand cast and hand polished oval shape concrete worktops in Ivory were assembled onsite. By using the best of modern technology, we have created a modern and robust design that demonstrates how concrete can be both good looking and functional.

Apair of Stannah moving walkways has taken the legwork out of shopping in the brand new branch of Sainsbury’s in Leigh, Lancashire. The moving walkways operate between the ground-floor entrance area and food hall and first-floor clothing, café, pharmacy and click and collect. They deliver secure, efficient movement for shoppers and their trolleys over a vertical rise of 4250mm at a 10o angle, and at rated speed of 0.5ms. For those unable to use the walkways, store access is further complemented by a passenger lift.

The design brief for Suffolk St James’s focused on a comprehensive refurbishment to create CAT-A offices on the 1st to 4th floors, along with a striking reception on the ground floor. The lower ground space provides studio/gym, bike store, kitchen and a further CAT-A office. There is a large roof terrace on the 5th floor.The challenge on this project was to replace the existing single 10-person lift and create step-free access to all five floors, including the 2,000 sq ft roof terrace and lower ground floor level.

Stannah were absolutely delighted to supply moving walkways to Dawnus Construction on behalf of ASDA for Andover’s newest and most eagerly awaited development, particularly as Andover is the home of Stannah and hundreds of their employees will be using the walkways on a regular basis.

33 Charterhouse Street – now known as The JJ Mack Building –  is one of London’s most stylish and sustainable new office buildings, completed in 2022.BCM GRC supplied the intricate, fluted panels that line the ground floor reception area, as well as the cool grey feature panels of the building's lift lobbies – all of which were expertly installed by our partner installer, Henley Stone.
