Scotts of Thrapston in Northamptonshire have 95 years’ expertise in the equestrian and garden buildings sector but recently decided to try and break into the education sector by supplying modular classroom buildings. They specified 153 of fermacell’s 1200mm x 2400mm x 12.5mm boards for their first such project, Weldon Church of England Primary School, in their home county, and have not looked back since, also using fermacell® for another school and an office building.

A central rendered chimney helps divide the structure of the house with the ground floor of the property built into the side of the slope.

The brief for this project in Putney was to modernise the ground floor of this red-brick detached house, create a larger dining room and better connect the inside of the home with the garden. The end result is a complete transformation. Gone are the compressed spaces and smaller rooms and in their place is a large open-plan living area with seamless connection between the lounge, kitchen and dining room. These open plan spaces are filled with natural light thanks to a combination of Grand Slider II sliding doors and huge fixed frame picture windows.

The Client turned to landscape architect Ula Maria for inspiration.

The Garden State Hotel is an iconic building in Melbourne. Accoya was chosen for a feature wall in the balcony dining room – a VIP space that looks out over the rest of the venue. Charred Accoya was used for the feature wall to add to the secluded and private feeling of the venue. The Accoya cladding was lined with a polyurethane finish. Other sections of the feature wall were finished with Woca internal maintenance oil. Accoya was also chosen due to its incredible finish and its ability to adapt to the unique and fresh looks offered by modern architecture.

Resin Bound porous Terrabound was selected for the new surfacing at Abbotsford House as part of the lottery funded restoration of the property completed in May 2013. Addagrip approved contractor The Fraser Bruce Group carried out the 850sqm installation of 6mm Rhine Gold Terrabound Resin Surfacing at a depth of 18mm to the courtyard and garden pathways. It was essential throughout the works that the aesthetics of the system were not compromised and the joints were kept to a minimum. The result is a durable, porous, low maintenance, decorative finish in a natural aggregate to complement this historic building.

Witley Court is a ruined Italianate mansion built in the seventeenth century and expanded in the early nineteenth century by the Architect John Nash. In 1937 a major accidental fire broke out and whilst the building is in ruins, it is Grade I listed and in the care of English Heritage who restored the formal gardens and fountains. Bolton Gate were engaged to design and manufacture gates replacement gates to provide night-time security with special folding bottom tracks to leave the floor surface intact and installed with great care to maintain the building’s status.

This included many walkways which required seating. Artform were consulted regarding the supply of standard products to the residential area, which needed a bespoke feel. The award winning Multiplicity seating, with its cast aluminium support structure was suggested, as this could allow for a selection of alternate timber to be used, giving the client flexibility and confidence that it would blend with the landscape.

A good example of the before and after effects of laying a sedum roof garden and accompanying deck and paved area onto a small domestic roof terrace. All these products are designed to sit on top of the waterproof membrane (in this case single ply) there was no issue of damage to the roof. The support pads lifted the decking off the roof, eliminating the risk of the timber piercing the membrane, and drainage was maintained through the roof surface since the green roof system has a cavity beneath its own reservoir and drainage layer to allow water run-off.

This led to the construction of a new building, the McCall MacBain Graduate Centre, which also now provides access to the Barbara Naylor rooftop gardens above the different reading, media and seminar rooms of the graduate centre. With the ageing existing waterproofing exceeding its life expectancy, the roof garden terrace was in need of a replacement roof system.As an accessible area which will experience a significant amount of foot traffic, the Bauder Hot Melt was determined to be the best solution for this roof. With a durability to match the expected life of the building and a self-healing system, the Bauder Bakor Hot Melt System is ideal for use on protected roofs such as inverted, paved, ballasted and terrace roofs.The resultApproved contractor Deane Roofing & Cladding carefully removed 439m² of the existing waterproofing, stripping the rooftop back to the concrete deck surface before installing the different layers of the Hot Melt system.The completed roof terrace now provides a modern and peaceful garden area where graduate students can relax and socialize between their work periods. The ground floor is now almost completely open-plan, finished off with a large 11m wide, 5-panel set of IDSystems supplied and installed Grand Slider II doors that offer a stunning view over the garden and the woodlands beyond.

A 23-storey Roof garden makes the most of the breath-taking views of the London skyline.Designing and specifying products for a 23-storey high terrace comes with some key issues which must be addressed. One of which, the Terrafina decking overcame due to its easy clip system making it a doddle to install and overcome this problem.Another, was to ensure a solid base for the artificial grass and planters to be fixed to. This was however, something Raaft had planned for and the Floor structure panels was an easy solution to this.

For acoustic reasons, the volume is detached and surrounded by gardens and planted facades.For the façade and to mark the identity of the brand, 3dny Studio got inspired by the relation with the fashion industry of the company using leather jackets fringes as reference.Behind this curtain facade, the volume is fully glassed. Our B-Box roller shades are used to protect the large openings over the triple height of the hall. In association with a Polyscreen ® 351 in White color, it maintains comfort and views and become part of the graphic façade.

Accoya was chosen as the ideal material for the extension because of it aesthetic appearance as well as its ability to provide better insulation than other materials. & the owners wanted to use the most sustainable material they could. The Accoya extension which houses the show piece kitchen will be left to weather naturally and match the pale grey flooring. This was specifically designed so that in the summer, when the sliding door completely opens, the interior & exterior space will merge seamlessly.

In the first phase of their plans for Charlottehaven (or Charlotte Garden) – a 178-rental-apartment development on Strandboulevarden in Østerbro, Copenhagen – Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects exhibited great deftness in their treatment of both light and shadow, and texture and detail. So, it was natural that these interplays should continue into the project’s second phase: 37 furnished hotel apartments known as Charlottetårnet (or Charlotte Tower).A perfect example of these two interplays is seen in the hotel’s light-yet-warm bathrooms, which are characterised by creamy-hued floor-to-ceiling terrazzo surfaces punctuated by d line sanitary pieces in PVD Charcoal.

Invited to work with our friends, Mike and Frank of hot tub specialists, Euphoria Lifestyle, to create a traditional garden sauna chalet for a private client based in Surrey, HELO proposed the popular MIKA model. The site available suited perfectly the MIKA design with deep walls and compact but attractive fascia. The standard model was however a little short on space to meet all the client’s requirements so a special extended model was commissioned with an extra central room to house the shower and cold plunge. The result: a completely self-contained family sauna retreat!

EB24 cottage pane style steel windows featuring the G+ system with a Fenestra joint were chosen by the client to replicate and replace the original windows in this beautiful 1930s private residence. The open-sided loggia leads out to the garden - Clement were able to manufacture this screen in the EB24 window system to match all other fenestration. The new EB24 windows to the feature stairwell window allow lots of light into the centre of the house. The original timber surrounds were in good condition throughout the property and so were retained by Clement to house the new steel windows.

The restaurant at Edinburgh's Botanic Gardens features a Douglas Fir floor finished with Bona Traffic HD. The area was sanded back to bare wood using Bona’s ‘dust free’ system so no need to ‘tent’ the adjacent mezzanine area. Traffic HD was specified to provide the required level of durability in such a busy area. It's a very low VOC formulation which protects wood floors in highly trafficked areas. Its fast development time means busy commercial floors can be put back into full use just 24 hours after application.

All the doors are in Anthracite Grey throughout, double glazed with black, warm edge spacer bars.

The client desired a green roof at the back of this beautiful family home. Access was very restricted. The speed and ease of transporting and installing our modular trays meant minimum disruption for the homeowner. Trays were delivered to site on pallets and handballed to the roof. The modules were laid down onto a geotextile fabric. Pebbles were then laid around the perimeter between the trays and any outlets to provide the required firebreak. Vegetation blended quickly creating a seamless green roof and, looking out from the upper floors, a sense of continuity from the house across the garden.

Situated on the southern banks of the River Liffey overlooking Phoenix Park, Clancy Quay is a luxurious new housing development in Islandbridge, Dublin, from Kennedy Wilson Europe. Irish landscape architecture firm, Mitchell & Associates, was assigned the task of designing the external landscape surrounding the 46 designer apartments and townhouses on site which have replaced the historic Clancy Barracks. With the landscape consisting of vast, spacious gardens and courtyards, the design process was challenging, however, Tobermore helped make the job much easier for Mitchell & Associates with the provision of high quality hard landscaping products.

This funky-stylish 11 roomed boutique hotel is housed in a large Grade II-listed Georgian property, built originally as a grand private residence complete with long windows, an imposing colonnade, bold colours and distinctive contemporary art. No. 131 is right in the elegant centre of Cheltenham, overlooking Imperial Gardens, where many of the town's festivals take place and just off the stylish Montpellier neighbourhood. Wetroom Materials were able to use its bespoke drainage offering to come up with individual solutions that would meet the specific requirements of each shower area within the project.
