Completed in 1958, Bracken House was built as the headquarters and printworks of the Financial Times – the Hollington Staffordshire pink sandstone cladding cleverly matching the newspaper’s distinctive salmon pink pages. John Robertson Architects has since undertaken a sensitive renovation to create a space for the 21st century whilst reconciling the two architectural styles. Intu derby is a large shopping centre located in the heart of Derby. Home to over 200 stores, shoppers are sure to find what they are looking for. The centre plays an important role in adding to the vibrancy of Derby city centre and the region, creating a busy hub for its community and tourist industry. Keeping all these shoppers safe is of paramount importance for the centre’s management. As a result, they chose to install the INTRAform DM Heavy Duty Entrance Matting to protect the internal flooring and ensure a clean and safe environment.

Three Pancras Square is a Grade A office building located at the corner of King’s Boulevard and Goods Way. The building is part of a two million sq ft cluster of 12 office buildings south of the Canal. Six tube lines, two mainline stations and Eurostar are within a two-minute walk. Working with the architect we helped them in specifying the our flagship INTRAflex XT Entrance Matting. We chose a design that would blend in well with the buildings character and add tremendous aesthetic value.

As the centrepiece to British Land’s regeneration of Regents Place, 10 Brock Street is a distinctive 16 storey, 320,000 sq ft landmark office development in the heart of London. Completed in 2013, the building achieved the coveted BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating thanks to a number of features, including rainwater harvesting system and combined heat and power systems. The design and engineering of British Airways i360 is as impressive as it is innovative. Such an innovative attraction needs to stay attractive whilst maintaining safety of its tourists. Kirkstall Forge has carried great historical significance in the city of Leeds. •An OFSTED ‘Outstanding’ Rated school, the Ormiston Venture Academy in Norwich, specified Supacord carpet with inlaid bespoke logo mats from Heckmondwike. •A brand new entrance plaza provided a focal point for the new academy, with Heckmondwike called upon to produce a bespoke mat with the school’s new branding. •Supacord in Steel Grey was used extensively in the school, particularly in corridors and some classrooms, creating a neutral base for more vibrant furniture.

Gradus products were supplied throughout the Darwin Building. GXT51 stair edgings with interior inserts in Snowdrift (white) were installed on the main staircase. Boulevard 6000 barrier matting was also installed at the main entrance of the building.

Contract interiors specialist Gradus has supplied primary barrier matting to the new Haymarket bus station, as part of a £13.5milllion new build project, which allows 23 buses to drop off or pick up at any one time. Gradus’ Esplanade 8500 primary barrier matting was installed throughout the new bus station. Constructed from double grey rubber wipers and silver anodised aluminium scraper linking strips, Esplanade 8500 is an ideal solution for this busy environment.

It has excellent UV-resistance, fire resistance, and slip rating.Precise and practical installationFrom the chevron design Morrow+Lorraine supplied, we created an intricate plan for the install team; clearly labelled each component and supplied in oversized lengths to allow for tolerances and anomalies on site.We also provided spares just in case, as the install team had to work around some immovable features.The flush, glass revolving doors would have been particularly tricky for a lesser product. A temple in Chorley has recently had Nuway Tuftiguard Classic in 17mm closed construction installed by the Northern team at Master Matting. As Nuway is ideal for entrance areas of all shapes and sizes, it was perfect for the design of the architecturally striking building. With three points of access, each with their own set of revolving doors, the rigid entrance flooring system will help to stop the outside from travelling in.Due to the busy nature of the temple, removing soil from soles of shoes and wheel treads was essential in providing accidental slips and protecting interior floor surfaces. Nuway Tuftiguard classic is also reversible, which effectively doubles the lifespan of the entrance flooring.

The ChallengeLocated in a densely populated area of London, the Balham branch of Waitrose had a responsibility to minimise the impact of its operations on the surrounding neighbourhood. Supermarkets are deceptively noisy, a solution was required in order to maintain low noise levels within the proximity of the store.Closely monitoring store activity, Waitrose identified that deliveries risked causing a disturbance to nearby residents – because metal cages used to carry stock generated high levels of noise when rolling across the uneven concrete floor, particularly when empty.To reduce noise levels during delivery times, Waitrose needed a durable acoustic flooring solution that would directly attenuate sound and withstand the impact of the cages. This was where CMS Danskin were able to step in and provide a valuable and reliable solution.The SolutionAfter reviewing the performance requirements of the store, CMS Acoustics recommended and installed High Impact Mat. Manufactured from a non-reflective and slip resistant material which exceeds the highest safety standards, CMS High Impact Mat reduces excess sound by cushioning and absorbing impact sound.Composed of reclaimed rubber, EPDM granulate and PUR binder, CMS High Impact Mat is an environmentally friendly product available in a range of thicknesses, from 4mm to 12mm. At Waitrose, the material was specified at a thickness of 10mm.The ResultQuick and easy to install, CMS Acoustics completed the 150m2 installation of High Impact Mat in just two days. Critical to minimising disruption to store operations, CMS High Impact Mat was able to carry traffic just 24 hours after installation.Waitrose branch manager, Steve Baller, commented: “As part of our commitment to minimise disruption to our neighbours it was important to find a product that would reduce noise. CMS High Impact Mat has proven to be an excellent product, the sound levels have been reduced substantially and the floor is able to withstand the weight of loads coming into the warehouse.”

Gradus supplied R95XT11 PVC-u and CXT3 aluminium stair edgings to the main staircases to help protect against the risk of slips, trips and falls. Gradus also supplied a range of barrier matting to the development, including Esplanade 5000HD and Boulevard 5000HD.

Maida Vale Studios is a complex of seven BBC sound studios of which five are in regular use. Since its launch in 1934, the studio has been used to record thousands of classical music, and dramas for popular radio channels such as BBC Radio 1/2/3 etc. It has also been the home to BBC Symphony Orchestra. Opened in September 2022, the UCL East Campus in Stratford, London, includes apartments for over 500 students, cafes, a shop, a cinema and public art installations.This means that the campus can expect thousands of students and visitors to walk through their entrances each day, so the installation of an effective entrance flooring system was essential. Launched in the summer of 2022, Nuway Grid Black Anodised offers a stylish but contemporary alternative to Nuway Tuftiguard Black Anodised. The Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon has undergone an ambitious and exciting £112m project to install a brand new auditorium inside the skeleton of the art-deco original. The internal refit created some interesting acoustical challenges. One of the most important aspects of the project was to ensure that theatre performances were not disturbed by noise from other parts of the building. In particular, the gantry – from where scenery changes and lighting are managed – was identified as requiring a specialised acoustic solution, to stop the noise of people working behind the scenes from carrying through to the audience. This is where CMS Danskin stepped in.The SolutionAs soft flooring subcontractors on the project, Loughton Contracts installed CMS High Impact Mat in the gantry. Composed of reclaimed rubber, EPDM granulate and PUR binder, CMS High Impact Mat is a durable, environmentally friendly type of floor covering that reduces excess sound, prevents unwanted noise and has excellent impact reduction. CMS High Impact Mat is available in a variety of thicknesses and colours. Simple to install, LoughtonContracts fitted 573m² of blue, 10mm thick CMS High Impact Mat onto wooden, concrete and screeded floor areas in the theatre gantry. As a non-reflective, slip and tear resistant material that meets the highest safety standards, it provides a safe surface for an area of the theatre where there is constant movement of scenery, people and heavy lighting.CMS High Impact Mat also has other qualities which made it the preferred specification for this refurbishment. As well as providing high acoustic performance, it offers an aesthetic, ‘final floor finish’ which is warm underfoot and has anti-fatigue properties. It creates an attractive, comfortable and quiet working environment in the gantry, as well as contributing to the quality finish that runs throughout the theatre.

Situated in Bedfordshire, Millbrook Golf Club is a magnificent golf course that sought to enhance specific areas of its course to ensure year-round suitability.In this case study, the greenkeeping team focused on improving the walk-on walk-off areas of newly constructed tee boxes to prevent erosion and the formation of muddy or boggy ground during the winter months.To create a pathway that would offer exceptional grass protection while preserving the natural beauty of the course once the grass beneath had grown, the team opted for our rubber grass mats.Our rubber golf path matting is highly sought after due to its remarkable benefits, including durability, ease of installation, permeability, and compatibility with wheelchairs and golf carts. These attributes make it the perfect solution for a wide range of projects and applications.Robert the Millbrook course General Manager told us; "We chose rubber grass mats to be used for the walk-on walk-off areas to two of our tee boxes, one of which has recently had a new pathway to the rear of the tee installed".Rubber Grass Mats On The 7th TeeExtending from the 6th green to the 7th tee, this particular section of the course experienced noticeable wear and tear. Without careful maintenance from the greenkeeping team, it could easily become an extremely boggy spot.To alleviate the risk of muddy ground in this area, the team devised a plan to revamp the space. They constructed a new pathway at the rear of the tee and re-turfed the slopes on either side. The surface of the path was then adorned with artificial grass. In addition, the lead-up to the artificial grass path was covered with our protective rubber grass mats. These mats were effortlessly laid in place by the team using plastic fixing pegs and cable ties.Once the area has matured, the golf path mats will become nearly invisible, providing a natural-looking yet protective surface to ensure the course remains in optimal condition for its members throughout the year.Robert kept us up to date with their progress; "Our Greenkeepers have been busy putting the finishing touches to the 7th Tee. Turfing the slopes, laying artificial grass for the path and installing a rubber grass mat infrastructure which the grass will grow through".Rubber Grass Mats On The 12th TeeSimilar to the work done on the 7th tee, the team at Millbrook devised a plan to enhance the approach from the 11th green to the 12th tee using our rubber grass mats.To enhance year-round usability regardless of weather conditions, they improved the approach to the tee box from the 11th green by installing our rubber grass mats. These mats were laid out, interconnected with cable ties, and easily secured in place using plastic pegs.Once the grass grows through the carefully designed holes in the rubber grass mats, the course will maintain its natural appearance while benefiting from a reinforced pathway that prevents the formation of boggy areas.Robert again informed us of the upgrade of this tee approach path; "The 12th Tee approach work is progressing really well thanks to our greenkeeping team. The area around the 11th bunker has also been re-turfed".The ResultRobert and the team are delighted with the project's outcome and the advantages provided by the rubber grass mats. Some club members have also expressed their appreciation for the new tee boxes and approaches on the Millbrook Facebook page; "The tee boxes looked very smart on Saturday".We are thrilled that our simple yet highly effective rubber grass mats have proven to be a resounding success for Millbrook Golf Course.Our exceptional golf pathway mats have assisted the greenkeeping team in achieving their objective of creating reinforced and natural-looking approach areas for their new tee boxes. The SL500 Framesliding door was installed in the Arts & Law building, allowing for a seamless and responsive entrance as you enter the bright lobby.
