International Timber recently collaborated with Highline Homes to create a development consisting of six residential units, built within a conservation area of Glasgow.

Mote Park is a 450-acre green space within the town of Maidstone, Kent. The expansive park has woodland, grasslands and rivers all surrounding a 30 acre lake. To safely secure the perimeter of the new play area we supplied 230 metres of Anti Trap Bow Top fencing and a number of matching gates. Due to the nature of the site, other park users and the large volumes of families with young children expected to visit the play park, safety was a top priority throughout the project.

Sitting opposite the former BBC Television Centre and adjacent to Westfield Shopping Centre, this exciting new development includes 10.4 acres of open space in the form of a new public park for White City, 1500 new homes including affordable housing and commercial premises. Buzon UK were specified to install the Buzon DPH pedestal system under a large area of timber tiered seating, creating the perfect space for the local community to enjoy. Buzon pedestals were also used in the construction of various external stage decks, bench seating and large terraces within the commercial area of the development.

The development is situated at Killay and is part of a wider initiative to redevelop the Hendrefoilan area, which includes a £450 million new university campus. The project is part of a wider regional development for St. Modwen that includes provision for up to 4,000 homes, a 4 million square foot employment space, and the construction of Swansea University’s new Bay Campus.

THE PROJECTThe ‘Bronze Project’ is a multi-occupancy residential development that has been designed with a distinctive high-end project finish.The development features multiple banks of wall recessed post boxes in the reception lobby area which is located near to the entrance of the building. It is positioned in this area so that both mail delivery personnel can deposit items in a short space of time from a centralised location, and recipients are able to quickly access their deliveries as they pass by the mailboxes.The mailboxes are recessed into the wall which maximise the available space and ensure that Health & Safety requirements are conformed to.The mailbox model used in the ‘Bronze Project’ is the COM 2 Steel Door – 127 product. This type of horizontal mailbox is ideal for developments that require a large number of mailboxes to securely store deliveries for recipients in a restricted amount of space. The horizontal dimensions of the product (small height, large width with a relatively large depth) allow for multiple mailboxes to be stacked on top of each other, maximising the quantity of products in one area.Each mailbox has been engraved with a number which corresponds to their apartment address.

In 2014 a new development consisting of 7 luxury beachfront apartments with uninterrupted sea views was built. The Beach Retreat is positioned on the marina esplanade along the beautiful east Kent coastline. The roof design is of particular interest as Ramsgate seafront and Marina Esplanade is a designated Conservation Area and area of special architectural and historic interest.

The Mildenhall Hub is on of the first projects of it's type and combines a number of community facilities, including the Mildenhall Academy, Leisure Centre, Children’s Centre, Pre-school, Public Library, Advice Centre and offices for councils, and the NHS. This provides the town and surrounding area with integrated access to community services. Benchmark worked with the Architect at an early stage to develop FF&E solutions to the variety of areas and comply with the relevant government guidance and regulations. The contractor then engaged with us to develop the furniture schemes throughout the project to complete the FF&E design in collaboration with the Architect and End Users, before proceeding with manufacture and installation of all fixed furniture items.

The development for this village, forms part of a wider masterplan for the Sackville Road site in Hove. In this project includes 260 flats plus communal areas, including restaurants, bar bistro, swimming pool and well-being area, events space, gym, shop and village hall. Graunt Francis Architects Director, Toby Adam, said: “This will be a transformational scheme for this under-utilised site in Hove. We look forward to the next steps with excitement”. In this project Effisus Pre-fab True Seal, a pre-fabricated sealing solution, was developed and applied for sealing difficult facade 3D details, minimizing human error possibility.

Ryno self-levelling adjustable pedestals and stackable supports were chosen to support paving slabs on the many balconies, walkways and roof terraces of this residential development in the Bermodsey area.

DRU has installed 89 gas fires into Ebury Square, a development of luxury 1-4 bedroom apartments and 5 bedroom penthouses by Berkeley Homes in Belgravia, London. The fires were selected for their contemporary design, easy installation and high energy efficiency. They consist of single-sided and double-sided tunnel models. Berkeley Homes selected DRU because of their unique PowerVent® flue system. Due to the configuration of the apartments, the flues had to be extended up to 64 metres throughout the service ducts in the complex, with most of the fires having external PowerVent® terminals on the roof.

The construction of the West Bromwich Leisure Centre developed a strong relationship between, architect, main contractor, sub-contractor and manufacturer as well as the major development of a state of the art leisure facility. Mapei UK products were specified on all areas and were on site from the beginning ensuring that full support was given to all aspects of the project development, assisting with full specifications covering M10, M20, M40, M50, J30, and K21, from the general application of screed to the finer detail of waterproofing drainage channels.

The Smith, in London’s Kingston-upon-Thames, is a new commercial real estate development. Completed in April 2021, this 40,000sqft new development offers a mixture of lease types including conventional leases, coworking, serviced offices, and managed space. Featuring a contemporary reception area with a coffee lounge and space for breakout or informal meetings the development delivers a flexible workspace to suit today’s requirements. This Grade A office refurbishment provides a welcoming feel and promotes a healthy working environment with open-plan offices and roof terraces.

Lewis House is a development of 26 one and two bedroom retirement apartments in Upper Norwood in London from McCarthy & Stone. Profile 22 Optima Chamfered Windows deliver specifications required. The window specification required a U-value of 1.4 wm2/k on all windows and Secured by Design accreditation on the ground floor & easily accessible first floor windows. Acoustic glazing was also required because Lewis House is situated on a busy road so traffic noise needed to be minimised. Visually, the local authority had requested a grey exterior to give a modern appearance and provide a close match to aluminum.

Atlas Building was developed in response to the area’s growing community of professionals and businesses, offering 300 new homes, office space and a public piazza. Aspex supplied Novista riser doors. 

Valette Square is a community of 33 mixed 2, 3 and 4 bedrooms townhouses with private gardens and terraces, built in Salford’s historic centre. Developed by @buttressarchitects , it was designed to introduce new homes to the area, create easy links to nearby areas and for community spaces to exist where possible.The area is named after Pierre Adolphe Valette – a French impressionist who taught the local painter L.S Lowry, and taught at the Manchester Municipal School of Art. The local existing Georgian aesthetics were echoed in the development with Floren’s Brunello bricks being selected for their tones and subtlety, leaning towards nearby red brick buildings.Amongst numerous sustainable efforts, the townhouses’ façade and positioning make the most of natural daylight to reduce the amount of artificial lighting needed, improved insulation and smart heating systems.Valette Square was shortlisted for the Housing Design Award in 2020

The Hawley Wharf Masterplan has transformed a neglected part of Camden Down into a thriving, vibrant destination that has enhanced the identity of the area while paying tribute to the classic intents of London’s unmistakable architectural heritage.Eight new buildings sit between existing railway viaducts and allowing for open public space and connecting the project to the wider area through re-established pedestrian pathways. A variety of homes, educational facilities, workplaces and more help solidify the area’s growth without straining its resources. Myatts Field North is a major regeneration project in the London borough of Lambeth, the development consists of 808 new homes, and 172 refurbished properties with 10 per cent fully accessible to wheelchairs. New streets, green spaces, play areas, landscaped park with two seven-a-side football pitches, multi-use games area and a play area, community centre, local store, commercial units, and an energy plant which provides reliable and efficient heating and hot water were also installed.Cellecta’s ScreedBoard 28 was specified by PRP Architects due to its ultimate single layer acoustic overlay treatment. It is frequently reviewed as the solution of choice for new build and refurbishment developments. Its high density and unique resilient layer provides an unrivalled acoustic performance.Regenter Ltd was awarded this 50,000m² contract to construct this regeneration in South London.

Angel Gardens is one of Manchester’s newest, purpose built, residential developments and is located in the fashionable Northern Quarter of the city.Residents of the development enjoy a ‘clubby’ feel to their living environment with a number of exclusive facilities included within the high-rise building. As well as cinema and gym areas, the roof terrace on the 9th floor boasts not only a barbegue / bar / entertaining / dining area but also a football pitch. Included in the roof-top oasis is an outdoor kitchen, supplied and installed by GEC Anderson. Comprising of stainless steel base cabinets, a continuous stainless steel worktop with integral sink and back upstand, the kitchen is used for functions and generally to cater for requirements of visitors to this level of the building.

Boutique apartment development in Central London of six new high-end flats, including two penthouses for a private developer. High quality finishes are specified throughout, and the compact design makes intelligent use of the site.InterLace designed, manufactured and installed luxury curtains and blinds to all living and bedroom areas, working with the special window systems and slimline recesses for a minimal and contemporary finish.

Two 20 storey buildings, one a hotel and the other a luxury residential and commercial apartment block, have been constructed near Wembley Stadium. Triton Systems was appointed by the main contractor, Donban Construction, to supply a watertight concrete system for the large underground car park which will serve both buildings.

This 19 storey building incorporates high quality office accommodation commanding magnificent views of the river Thames. Rathbone Market is one of six schemes in the UK that has been delivered by English Cities fund (ECf), a regeneration partnership between Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), Muse Developments and Legal and General. Part of the 680,000 sq ft Canning Town & Custom House regeneration area programme, Rathbone Market was designed by Project Orange and formed the third and final phase of the entire development. Continuing its long-standing relationship with John Sisk and Son, one of the main contractors to the programme, RCM supplied a whole host of products for the successful development of the project.

The restaurant at Edinburgh's Botanic Gardens features a Douglas Fir floor finished with Bona Traffic HD. The area was sanded back to bare wood using Bona’s ‘dust free’ system so no need to ‘tent’ the adjacent mezzanine area. Traffic HD was specified to provide the required level of durability in such a busy area. It's a very low VOC formulation which protects wood floors in highly trafficked areas. Its fast development time means busy commercial floors can be put back into full use just 24 hours after application.

The 500sq m of Creation 55 in Sweet Cloud was the perfect solution for the new development, W2 at Wellington House in Cardiff. This LVT vinyl flooring has been specified for the offices and communal areas of this project.

Principal Place has a 50-storey residential building and a further 3 buildings housing the Amazon head office. Providing a significant land mark development in an area fast becoming a sought after location for residential and commercial reasons. RiserSafe® was used in all buildings in the development specified by Multiplex and installed by Byrne Bros and P.J. Carey. Fully utilising the 11 functions of RiserSafe® across the scheme.

Geraint Thomas House in Crawley is a 9-storey new build development of 91 modern homes, designed to impeccably high standards by Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt and Claylens Mills with the additional aspiration of setting a future benchmark for other developments in the area.The apartments have been designed to meet the needs of modern families, with spacious living areas and plenty of storage space. Two-thirds of the apartments are available through shared ownership schemes, making them more affordable for local residents.One of the key features of the development is its incredibly detailed brickwork. Geraint Thomas House was recently shortlisted in the Medium Housing Development at the 2022 BDA Brick Awards.

Located on a former industrial site bordering Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter Conservation Area, this unique mixed-use development delivers 390 one, two and three-bedroom apartments, commercial offices, retail outlets and a new railway ticket office, in addition to much needed new facilities for the city’s world-famous jewellery sector. Sandwiched between busy railway lines and a public highway, and bounded by two historic cemeteries, the seven-building development varies in height between 3 and 7-storeys. It has been sympathetically designed to reference the area’s industrial heritage, with imposing brick facades, deep-set windows and distinctive archway detailing recreating the aesthetic of the historic warehouses that once defined the site.

A £675,000 investment has seen a Belfast car park transformed into an exciting new ‘eco space’ for the public. Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland unveiled the space which sits directly on top of the Donegall Quay underground car park. The space is designed to form a new social area for locals to relax beside the River Lagan. It is a mix of grassy areas and seated spaces.

The Riverlight development saw the transformation of a waterfront space in Battersea. As part of a £200m mixed-use scheme, Hardscape worked alongside the landscape architects, Gillespies, to breathe new life into the once rundown industrial area.
