Their mission is to be a first class and first choice provider of education and apprenticeships in a wide range of skills. 15% of their students are aged 16 to 18 and they currently employ over 350 staff. To meet the demand of catering for all, they needed washrooms for male and female users, parent and child washrooms and accessible washrooms. For their design they chose a sharp, clean look to provide a professional and hygienic feel for such heavy footfall washrooms, preparing for heavy traffic from early morning to late in the evening.

Creating a simple, uncluttered, clean space with a utilitarian look and feel was the goal for the re-design of Hanson Architect’s Office space. The practice was impressed by the fact that SMARTPLY OSB3 panels are manufactured from renewable materials and had fewer issues with formaldehyde than standard OSB or MDF. For the re-design of its own office and meeting room, Hanson wanted to make use of a material that reflected its own character and identity –SMARTPLY OSB provided the answer.

The high-quality health and fitness changing facilities were fitted with leisure glass lockers in the form of our leisure lockers in one compartment, two-compartment and three compartments fitted with 10mm glass-silk blue doors. We also supplied cubicles, bench seating, IPS which complemented the area. The wet side changing and dry sports changing areas were supplied with leisure lockers. Locker doors were selected from the Formica range in a mix of violet, heather and grey, red, yellow and oak, leaf green, lime and grey and tropical blue, blue and grey.

When a major blaze swept through the sports pavilion at Verulam School in St. Albans, only one thing was left standing in the changing rooms - the Boyco fittings. Even after the roof had fallen in and flames had gutted the changing block, the Boyco benches and peg rails were still firmly in place. The suspected arson attack at the Sandy Pit Lane site caused extensive damage and the entire pavilion needed rebuilding. As a fire fighter at the scene explained "The pavilion was made of wood and concrete with a tar and bitumen roof so it was pretty flammable".Rebuilding the pavilion had to begin straight away to restore full sports facilities to the school. Boyco was asked to join architects Mouchel on the team tasked with building and fitting out new changing rooms – nine years after they designed and supplied the original fittings. Boyco and Mouchel already had a proven partnership having worked together on numerous projects in the past. The timescale was tight. The Boyco team had just a month to present full proposals and design and manufacture the fittings. The team’s made-to-measure design – a replication of the original one - incorporated benches with integral peg rails and shoe trays. The steel fittings were coated in-house at the Boyco factory using the company’s renowned ‘Hot-dip’ nylon technique, exclusive in this sector to Boyco. The coating, derived from 100% renewable castor oil, is four times thicker than other powder coatings and gives fittings superior durability and performance. ‘Hot-dip’ coated fittings offer astonishing resistance to damage, abrasion and, as Verulam School proved, fire. The surface is also exceptionally hygienic with anti-microbial power that reduces bacteria by 99.99%. For added visual impact, ‘Hot-dip’ designs come in wide range of colours. Timber parts of the fittings also bring together superb performance with impressive environmental credentials. Water-borne timber lacquers provide a high quality finish on our standard American White Ash which are non-toxic, anti-microbial and non-flammable. All timbers are sourced from sustainable, fully approved forests. 

Black, modern fittings and accessories made by KEUCO in the Design Hotel Le Méridien, Hamburg. KEUCO offers an exclusive black-brushed finish which cannot be underquoted. The matt fittings and accessories are a result of a PVD process that guarantees a surface that is extremely insensitive with a luscious tone of colour and a very high grade of hardness.

Refurbishment of terrace with Class A fire rated non-combustible decking system. Exadeck porcelain decking boards were fitted to Wallbarn aluminium rail substructure with Class A MetalPad EX adjustable height pedestals. Retro-fitting of entire terrace to comply with fire regulations Approved Doc B and BS 8579.

The client here had a small space that they wanted to use to create a wetroom, wedi liaised directly with the designer and tiler to assist with the products used in the final installation. This includes a wedi "Slim Kit" and wedi "Top" material on the floor as the finished surface. wedi Top was utilised to keep the whole build-up as slim as possible as it offers anti-slip and mould resistance in a mere 6mm thickness without the need for grout lines and cleaning that you would have with a traditional tile.

The Grade II Listed Victorian Tamworth Assembly Rooms had secondary glazing installed by Selectaglaze as part of a multi-million-pound project to refurbish and restore the much respected theatre. A solution was required to insulate the single glazed original arched casement windows in the auditorium to provide suitable acoustic and thermal insulation. Selectaglaze’s Series 41 side hung casement secondary glazing was specified with 6.4mm glass to each of the windows, matching the sightlines and providing full access to the originals for cleaning and maintenance.

Thanks to Forbo's many years of experience, they always manage to propose the right flooring with a good price/quality ratio, regardless of the project or the application.For this project we looked at maintenance-friendly floors that are easy to clean - an important consideration in a working environment. That is why we chose Tessera carpet tiles and Allura Flex. The resulting floors accord perfectly with the look that DPG aspires to, while the good acoustics and luxurious textures are a welcomed extra.

Urban Nation Architects & Associates chose EQUITONE [lunara] for the ground level facade on this residential apartment building in Wemmel, Belgium.  The panels are high-density and require little maintenance or cleaning which makes them ideal for high footfall and traffic areas.  ANAA cut the [lunara] in to linear panels using soft angles to make the facade visually interesting and to catch the eye of anyone nearby. The variable texture of [lunara] invites the viewer to further investigate the facade at a closer range.

Intu derby is a large shopping centre located in the heart of Derby. Home to over 200 stores, shoppers are sure to find what they are looking for. The centre plays an important role in adding to the vibrancy of Derby city centre and the region, creating a busy hub for its community and tourist industry. Keeping all these shoppers safe is of paramount importance for the centre’s management. As a result, they chose to install the INTRAform DM Heavy Duty Entrance Matting to protect the internal flooring and ensure a clean and safe environment.

The metal roof to this large distribution centre was affected by cut edge corrosion and all of the metal valley and eaves gutters were affected and leaking & corrosion. The gutters were first cleaned and dried, then treated with Liquasil’s corrosion primer. All gutter joints were coated with non-Sag Sealer, a highly elastic silicone polymer, before the whole gutter was coated with Liquasil One to provide a seamless gutter lining to prevent further leaks. Liquasil systems are covered by a unique Latent Defects Guarantee.

Crow Wood Spa is set within the magnificent Lancashire countryside – famous for its tales of witches, sorcery and black magic in the 17th-century. Working closely with the client, Prospec’s installation of Cabrillant 700 cubicles are the centre piece of the spas changing areas, meeting their exacting high specification. The toughened and laminated glass provides an opulent feel and white opaque finish is clean and crisp. The Spa Manager added ‘how fantastic the showers look’ and that the entire team are ‘really pleased with the finish.

When leading beauty product franchise, MADI International, moved into its new international head office, Amtico Spacia Acoustic was chosen to add a warm and stylish feel to the building’s interior. In order to reflect the company’s ethos, the premises required flooring which was well designed, easy to clean and benefited from good acoustics. The latter was particularly important as, being a beauty business, MADI International experiences high footfall – including lots of high heeled and designer shoes.

Ulticolour, Tarmac's coloured asphalt was used to surface the redeveloped Promenade at Morecambe. The buff colour complemented the clean, modern design of the new sea wall. It provided an accessible, trip-free surface with minimal maintenance requirement. The existing surface was an old hot rolled asphalt which was suffering from cracking. To resist cracking in the new surface and extend pavement life, ULTIMAT SAMI, Tarmac’s innovative stress absorbing membrane interlayer was also used. For more details visit the Tarmac website.

This project, to coat approximately 2000 sq metres of asbestos roof with the BBA Approved Asbestsoeal system is a lesson for all in correct health and safety. Liquasil provides all approved installers with H&S training as standard. This deals with correct use of netting, scaffold, walkways, work platforms and waste water filtration from asbestos roof cleaning. Having already completed 500sq metres on a unit a year previously, the contractor was invited back to complete the rest of the block, which is the best possible endorsement.

For the construction of a large villa of soft and natural colours in the countryside near Bologna, various Atlas Concorde floor and wall-tiles collections were used. Made-to-measure satin-brushed stainless steel worktops and sinks from GEC Anderson have been used to enhance the light and contemporary spaces they are situated in at Brockholes Nature Reserve near Preston, Lancashire.The nature reserve was formed over 10 years out of a former gravel quarry, with a range of habitats added to existing woodlands and water, carefully crafted to attract different species of birds, animals, fish and plant life. The project is the winner of 2 Civic Trust Awards and has achieved the new and highest rating of sustainability, BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ for interim design stage.Owned by the National Wildlife Trust, Brockholes combines a visitor centre with a 67-hectare nature reserve funded by the North West Regional Development Agency. Brockholes is one of the best sites in the UK for many species of birds and different habitats have been created throughout the area to encourage them and other wildlife to visit the siteThe buildings and open spaces form a village-like cluster, floating on a large pontoon and include various facilities such as a café, gift shop and information area. The kitchenette is situated in the conference centre, which is available for hire by companies and individuals for private functions. The small kitchen space is used for general washing up tasks as well as for the storage of crockery and cutlery, includes two GEC Anderson made-to-measure brushed-satin stainless steel sinktops. Designed to fit the compact space available, the stainless steel worktops combine robust functionality with their professional and attractive appearance.The Education Classroom is situated in the Visitor Village and accommodates up to 60 people. It is used for school and adult education activities during term time and family activities during school holidays. A single piece, 3.5 metre, GEC Anderson made-to-measure brushed-satin stainless steel sinktop is located within this area, that includes a special 2.2 metre trough sink to a 180mm depth. This special trough sink is used for general wet activities and for cleaning of art and craft equipment. Kath Knight, Manager at Brockholes said, “Stainless steel provides clean lines and good looks in a modern classroom environment and compliments the surrounding building materials, which are mainly timber.”For the architect, it was also the obvious choice for this busy educational space, as it is hard wearing, hygienic, maintenance free and retains its original appearance over time. GEC Anderson was also chosen for their ability to provide the sinktop configurations to meet the design requirements.Managing Director of GEC Anderson, Martin Tye, comments: “This is a situation where practical requirements must be satisfied but where design and use of natural, balanced, honest materials are, equally, of importance. Stainless steel worktops tend to blend-in so well precisely because of their neutral appearance.”

Yeoman Shield HessianEx wall panels at 1250mm high and 50x50mm Corner Protection Angles in Lilac was fitted on the ground & 1st floor corridors and plaza area. HessianEx panels, cut to 300mm wide was fitted as an attractive protection strip in waiting areas, to protect against chairs being pushed up against walls and causing marks and scuffs.

Sunshine Gym have provided a brand new outdoor gym at Newton Primary School in Derbyshire.Newton Primary School decided upon the Primary School Outdoor Fitness Package which provided a pre-determined mixture of equipment specially selected by our experts to encourage fitness within primary schools. The equipment can be used by eight pupils simultaneously. Inclusive of both multi and single user equipment this package can be used as a gentle cardiovascular workout. It features two pieces of multi-user equipment, and these ‘dual’ units promote social interaction whilst still allowing the pupils to exercise at their own pace.The equipment was installed on grass saver matting. This additional safety surface, over time, will encourage the grass to grow through and be mowed. Thus allowing it blend with the natural surroundings.This specific outdoor fitness package is to be used by children under 140cm. This makes it perfect for the KS1 & KS2 pupils, and they can use it for small classes for PE pupils or even as an after school fitness initiative.

This record THERMCORD sliding door provides thermal insulation helping maintain an even temperature in the facility. This installation was fitted with a push pad for entry and safety beam radar activation presence sensors to detect traffic from either side of the door. The system was also fitted with battery back up to ensure safe door opening in the event of power failure.

ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems' expertise in transportation applications made us an ideal partner for the Doncaster Transport Interchange project. In working together with the project’s engineers, automatic sliding door systems were determined to be the optimal solution for the bus depot due their reliability and safety. The clean lines of the ASSA ABLOY sliding doors also complemented other elements of the broader French gate Centre urban renewal project, which includes an integrated train station and car park for visitors to the nearby city centre, in addition to the shopping mall.

Leading timber processor, James Jones & Sons Ltd, specified EGGER Protect at its new facility near Lockerbie. The 18 acre Hangingshaw development is a strategic investment for the company, and EGGER Protect contributes to its successful implementation. EGGER Protect flooring was installed on all of the high-level walkways and access platforms around the advanced production machines. This application brings health and safety benefits, with the textured surface of the board offering market-leading anti-slip characteristics.The product is durable, easy to install and keep clean.

The Dolphin team liaised with TP Bennet architects and Stortford Interiors contractors to ensure that this extensive re-modelling of the interior spaces including washrooms was carried out seamlessly. To date, up to 40 washrooms have been refurbished in this phased roll-out with a crisp, clean and bright washroom design. Despite not being a public building, its employee capacity is in the hundreds with expectations of greeting and hosting for high-end customers. They wanted a washroom that could withstand high volumes of traffic but look beautiful each time it was used.

Jerry had always liked New England style houses so this is what he and his wife envisioned for the renovation, a sharp looking house with clean lines. They felt this would be achievable through an extension of the house and a cladded facade. It was their contractor who pointed Jerry in the direction of Hardie® Plank cladding, which he felt would be the ideal solution for the project. Even though the contractor had not worked with the product before, he had seen it on other properties and was keen to start working with the cladding.

A self-detached home in Brighton that once blended in with its' neighbours is now arguably the street's most striking resident. The homeowners were passionate about creating a contemporary two-toned look, using materials that are durable and low maintenance.The exterior walls are clad with Hardie® VL Plank fibre cement board, showcasing a mix of a vertical installation on the top half and horizontal installation on the bottom half. The clean, modern lines of the interlock V groove help to accentuate the building's shape, enhancing a sense of spaciousnous.

Gradus has supplied and installed a range of bespoke wall protection solutions throughout the ground-breaking new Proton Beam Therapy Centre at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester. Gradus supplied and installed its SureProtect Pure® hygienic wall cladding in White and Iceberg shades. Specially designed to create an impermeable barrier to moisture and bacteria it features a smooth, easy-to-clean surface to ensure a hygienic solution that meets ‘Health Building Note 00-09: Infection control in the built environment’

To maximise the value of the tree planting,the pits were used as storm water attenuation and treatment pits, taking water from the carriageway, passing it through a stone layer on the top of the tree pit and then filtering it down through the Arborsoil Hydro soil mix provided for the root growth. The water then transferred through a clean stone layer to an underdrain to a storm water drain. This method of conveyance gives an acceptable level of pollutant removal and slows the water down so that the existing drainage network can cope with the increasingly violent storm events.

The design and engineering of British Airways i360 is as impressive as it is innovative. Such an innovative attraction needs to stay attractive whilst maintaining safety of its tourists. Did you know that 90% of slip accidents occur on wet or contaminated floors? By not effectively trapping dirt, cleaning costs can skyrocket to £600-£1000 per kg of soil removed. This can often lead to a reception that is unattractive. At INTRAsystems we have always believed that Entrance Matting is the first line of defence in preventing the ingress of dirt and moisture into the building.

Valley gutters with limited access on fragile asbestos cement roofs are always difficult to maintain and repair. A liquid gutter liner is often the only solution in cases like this and none are easier than Liquasil’s Gutterseal system. The metal gutter was first cleaned and dried, then treated with a coat of Liquasil’s corrosion treatment before being over-coated with Liquasil one liquid gutter liner. All joints were treated with Liquasil Non Sag Sealer, providing a fleece-free, very strong joint and seamless gutter lining.
