The Bryncae development on Bridgend Road, Pontyclun is a three-phased residential scheme that aimed to bring much needed housing to the growing commuter town in South Wales. In phase one of the development, a mix of flats, bungalows and houses were built, along with three business units which were filled by Co-op Food, Greggs and Bella’s Boutique. Taylor Maxwell worked with architects Buckmaster Batcup, who were appointed by Rhondda Housing Association, to specify and supply Stonepanel stone cladding and weatherboard cladding to the project, along with blue facing bricks in a soldier course detail above and below the windows. The scheme was managed by supply chain partner Wates Group. The second and third stages delivered a further mix of houses and flats, with work carried out by M&J Cosgrove and Morganstone respectively. Holder Matthias Architects were the architects on phases two and three, carrying out the precedent set in phase one.

The library design draws inspiration from the ecological history of the state’s Blackland Prairie and aims to establish an environment that fosters active learning for both visitors and staff.The outdoor facade employs PARKLEX PRODEMA panels in Mustard, a hue that harmonizes with the indigenous flora chosen for the landscape design of the project. The cladding boards were custom-fitted to create an overlapping siding system that gives character to the 1200 square meter facade while paying homage to the vernacular architecture. The technical attributes of PARKLEX PRODEMA products assure the longevity of the installation, providing great resistance to severe weather conditions while needing no upkeep.

It is a 1,337m2 development that can be configured as flats, duplexes, family homes or even offices and commercial units.The three-floor units can be modified to suit the demands of both the property owner and the housing market. For example, the top two floors of a family home could easily be reconfigured to be let as rental properties. Or, each unit could be let as separate commercial spaces.The complex’s PARKLEX PRODEMA Rustik cladding offers protection against UV rays, atmospheric agents and inclement weather. The panels are maintenance free and sustainably sourced, which helps the project meet high design standards, including Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 as a minimum.

Gloucester’s dock area today provides a vibrant retail, leisure and residential district. The transformation of the derelict dock area started in 2009. As part of the multi-million pound redevelopment, known as Gloucester Quays, Tata Steel has supplied a wide range of its building envelope products to build the Morrisons supermarket.A solution incorporating Tata Steel’s Trisomet® and Trimapanel® insulated roof and wall cladding systems was chosen to build the Gloucester Quay’s supermarket for Wm Morrisons.Close involvement with the cladding contractor helped to deliver the robust detailing criteria and the air-tightness requirements. Longer length Trisomet® insulated panels supplied with Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® were installed on the roof area to reduce end laps and increase the speed of the installation, and for the wall elevations a combination of Trisomet® and Trimapanel® insulated panels were supplied manufactured from Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® pre-finished steel.

Previously accommodation for the Armed Forces, The Edge at Abbey Park in Colchester has undergone an extensive internal and external refurbishment to create 80 new apartments across four blocks. Taylor Maxwell worked with Marfleet Contractors and Datum Group to supply Hardie Panel and Hardie Plank cladding to the project designed by Front Architecture.

It was critical to specify the correct colours for Food Chain and Salsa Mexican Grill, to ensure the brand identity was standardized throughout, with no variance. Both the Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C, and Hybrid Wood Protector range was applied to counters, wall cladding, bulkheads, table tops, counter fronts, chairs, benches and door frames.

Aluminium has been increasingly recognised as a viable material for construction products over recent years. With concerns over fire safety in external wall systems shifting the industry towards non-combustible solutions, the benefits specifically of extruded aluminium profiles, such as decking or cladding boards, have answered many of these new challenges.

The low maintenance benefits and an aesthetic sympathetic to its location led to the specification of Eternit’s corrosion-resistant profiled sheeting as an external cladding solution for an award-winning development by designers, Soup Architects, called The Studios. The project has been built within a mature landscaped garden on an existing residential plot at Aldeburgh in Suffolk.

The Proteus SC cladding panels are arranged in a striking half-hexagon design that appears to float outward from the main structure. The 6 metre high façade, where the panels themselves are embellished by intricately designed, leaf-shaped perforations, has the ability to stop people in their tracks while they gaze at the intriguing, shimmering aesthetic.

In this project Stoneworld have supplied and installed a totally bespoke sandstone staircase, created by cladding a poured concrete structure. Stoneworld create a digital template for each piece by using the latest portable scanning equipment onsite. This data is then used to waterjet individual pieces for the step treads and step risers. In addition to series 190 heavy-duty entrance doors, Kawneer AA®100 zone-drained curtain walling has been used within rainscreen cladding from the ground to second floors and at the upper floor levels of a courtyard at Tameside One, the second phase of VisionTameside, in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester.

Part of the Scottish Schools for the Future (SSF) programme, the design for Oban High School and neighbouring Campbeltown Grammar school was made possible using a package of high-performance cladding and roofing products from Tata Steel, that both fulfilled the design ambitions and were capable of withstanding the physically challenging climate to which the buildings will be exposed.

Part of the regeneration of Chatham Docks, Chatham Waters comprises of two blocks of 193 PRS apartments linked by a single-storey podium level.Y2206F Steel Bronze 1 and Steel Bronze 2 Y2217F applied to solid and perforated cladding panels, whilst YW387I Ordos Sable adorns both balconies and window frames and screens.

Weavers Quay and the Flour Building are two projects that form part of the Manchester City Council strategy managed by the Manchester Life Development company. Completed in 2019, the £28m development was designed by Buttress Architects and managed by main contractors Graham Construction. The building’s facade was completed using the Corium brick cladding system, installed by Range Roofing.

A brand-new £3.1m facility at the University of Exeter, the South West Institute of Technology (SWIoT) building is intended for computer science education at the University's Streatham Campus. Working alongside Morgan Sindall and Progressive Systems, we were pleased to supply our Anvil expanded mesh cladding in a polyester powder coated (PPC) finish to the project.

Profile 6 sheeting was specified by Archial Group, who liked the products aesthetics, performance and cost.Black Profile 6 sheets were selected because they matched the appearance of nearby buildings in the rural area of South West Scotland. The black sheets also created a striking contrast to the Scottish Larch cladding used around the entrance area.

Rockpanel is busy working across the UK on projects where regulations amended in 2018, regarding buildings over 18 meters high, mean their exterior cladding systems must comply with stringent fire safety performance characteristics. One such project sits at the heart of the Bermondsey Spa area, near to the River Thames and Tower Bridge in London.

Merry Hill plays a vital role in the West Midlands. It is responsible for thousands of jobs, supports local suppliers and makes a significant contribution to the regional economy. Merry Hill has recently gone under a transforming with innovative, cutting edge cladding that would not only attract consumers during daylight, but also present visual interest after dark.

Situated just two miles from Heathrow and directly under the flight path, the school site poses some difficult energy efficiency, acoustic and thermal challenges. Pollard Thomas Edwards specified the Thrutone fibre cement slates for the main two storey section of the school, not only for the roof but also for vertical cladding, to help address these demands.

AATi worked closely with London Underground engineers to design a fully cladded stair system that was, hardwearing, compact and easily to install. AATi supplied Nickel Bronze SN93/SL3/280 standard cast metal Antislip stair nosings along with a 300mm deep version of the SN93/SL3/280 and riser plates also in cast nickel bronze.

Tata Steel has supplied its leading steel standing seam wall cladding system, Urban Seam® Façade to a new award-winning development in Portsmouth. The Goldsmith Avenue project is among the first in the UK to benefit from the A1 fire rating of the system, as well as its modern aesthetic and long-term durability.

The ChallengeTramways is a 402-bedroomed new build student accommodation complex for Chester University. It comprises 356 en-suite cluster rooms and 56 en-suite studios incorporating communal kitchens and living rooms.The development was to be split into five blocks of accommodation, with each block between three and five storeys in height.The SolutionForterra’s Dark Multi Smooth and County Multi Smooth bricks were selected for the project’s facing brickwork. Used alongside zinc wall cladding, these red bricks helped to create interest and variety in the external appearance of each of the five blocks.Part of Forterra’s Butterley range of bricks they are both smooth, wirecut bricks. While County Multi Smooth is a fully red brick, Dark Multi Smooth introduces elements of blue.The BenefitsThe juxtaposition of the metallic cladding with the red and blue facing brickwork ensures the Tramways development offers its own, unique architectural interest while at the same time complementing the local built environment of this part of Chester.

The aesthetics of this new brewery in Ashford were incredibly important to the overall design process, with no detail left unchecked - including the style of the fastener heads used to fix the impressive jet black cladding panels.Designed by Guy Holloway Architects, the Curious Brewery combines two functions in a single 'supershed' - alongside the stainless pipes and vats of the production facility is a visitor attraction comprising space for tastings, a shop, restaurant, and bar. The building makes a bold statement about modern brewing in Britain with a suitably 'curious' black façade, which gives little away until visitors step inside where it then opens up the modern brewing process to visitors - with an immersive approach to the brand experience. "We are extremely impressed with the aesthetically pleasing fasteners chosen for this project. Bespoke Access Structure | Case StudyThis two-level access structure with staircases, cladding, edge protection handrailing and anti-slip grating flooring was designed by Dura Composites in conjunction with our client ENGIE Fabricom UK, who provide engineering and construction services to sectors including renewables, oil and gas, power, chemical and energy from waste.With the ability to supply both composite timber cladding for the containers and all the required GRP elements for the project, Orsted chose to work with Dura Composites. Although steel had previously been considered, the rising cost of steel versus GRP and its tendency to corrode in coastal environments made composite materials a far more durable and cost-effective option.The resulting access structure is safe, looks attractive and is non-conductive and non-corrosive. With a long design life and 25 year warranty, the GRP components are part of the latest d² range from Dura Composites which offer safer, stronger, faster and proven properties.

Fircroft House in Essex has been completely transformed from a tired 1980s detached property into a distinctive home with a contemporary edge.Renovated throughout, Fircroft House features a new ground floor extension, pale grey timber-effect external cladding (replacing a brick and render façade), and brand new Rationel alu-clad windows and doors. In fact, sixteen new windows are installed across the property, including opening and fixed units, two large sliding patio doors, and a solid, grooved front door flanked by glazed side lights and set beneath an arched portico. When planning the refurbishment of Fircroft House, window and door replacement was a project priority, as the original property had single glazed, leaded, all-timber windows which made the interior very dark and were thermally inefficient. All-aluminium glazing was initially considered because the homeowners wanted an affordable, durable and contemporary frame design which looked more attractive than uPVC. They changed their mind, however, when they saw Rationel AURAPLUS alu-clad windows installed at a friend’s home: ‘The idea of a frame which combined timber and aluminium was very appealing,’ they say. ‘It offered the best of both worlds with hardwearing aluminium outside and thanks to the wood, a more tactile finish to the inner frames, so we decided to find out more.’ The homeowners are delighted with their new windows and doors and would happily recommend Rationel: ‘We are very impressed with the package offered by Rationel,’ they say. ‘The windows and doors are all high quality, low maintenance and look great, and the service we received from okoHaus was amazing from start to finish.’

The new Halcyon Way school was constructed for the community in Oldham - a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school for just over 150 children to grow, learn and develop in a caring and encouraging way.ChallengeMetal roofing and cladding contractor Decron Ltd were contracted to provide the façade for the new school. Bolton College has opened the doors of a brand new state-of-the-art STEM Centre to provide support for learning in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The STEM Centre features a futuristic angled façade to Deane Road, which forms a distinctive corner to the campus. This feature is articulated through the use of angled standing seam zinc cladding completed in Nedzink NOVA.

As part of the extension to the Tate Modern there was a requirement for doorsets with unusual characteristics. The RC4 security rated doors were quite large at 3m x 3m which, combined with the need to clad the doors in the same material as the building, created potential certification issues.Teckentrup was part of the team for the project and worked with the test houses through the design process to achieve a solution for the building.

The Seed is a blueprint for sustainable construction. This new build home used next to no concrete, is insulated with recycled paper, was built around a tree and root protection plan, and incorporates a plan for deconstruction and reuse at the end of its life. Our timber products were another key sustainable element that was carefully specified by the architect, and they are used inside and out for cladding, decking and flooring.

The Challenge was To pump screed 47 floors up in a ‘single pump’ operation. And to lay 1800m2 a day for the Shangri La Hotel section of The Shard. 40mm Gyvlon SKY on a resilient layer to part E, pumped internally in the building to allow the glass cladding and other operations to continue. Situated to the North West of Lincoln, Riverside Enterprise Park is a 5.8 acre (2.3 hectare) development, just five miles from Lincoln City Centre and close to the village of Saxilby.The site comprises of both new build units and existing portal frame buildings, which are stripped back before being re-clad and refurbished to a very high standard.

CUPACLAD 101 Logic was recently installed as part of a striking new-build project, located in Aberystwyth, Wales. The natural slate cladding was chosen because it could complement the coastal surroundings as well as provide outstanding resistance to the harsh weather conditions. The site was purchased by homeowners, David and Shirley Harries who looked to extend the pre-existing bungalow but after finding significant issues with its structure, opted instead to erect a new build on the same plot. “We really wanted a home that utilised a range of materials to create a modern look as opposed to building a glass palace that could look too ostentatious in the rugged seafront location,” said David. The couple approached Arwyn George from George + Tomos Architects who put together a design, which included CUPA PIZARRAS’ natural slate cladding system, CUPACLAD 101. “The CUPACLAD system allowed the new home to blend into the surrounding cliffs beautifully,” said Arwyn. “In addition, I had to consider the high winds that the project would be exposed to and select something that would have the appropriate durability.” High quality natural slate is a very resistant material – its deterioration is unnoticeable to the human eye, meaning its colour does not change across its 100 year lifespan, even in the coldest environments. Natural slate also has a permanent sheen, unlike other roofing materials which can decrease up to eight times superior.  “We really loved the proposal,” the couple commented. “The slate would blend seamlessly with the local landscape – both the cliffs behind the property as well as some of the other houses in the area, which also utilise natural slate. What’s more, the material is sympathetic to its environment.” CUPACLAD is constructed using specially selected slates, which are dark in colour, creating a bold and dramatic look, particularly when utilised alongside lighter materials such as glass, timber and render. CUPACLAD 101 Logic is made up of 40x20cm slates installed horizontally using fixing systems that are completely invisible once installed to avoid impacting the design. As with the rest of the CUPACLAD 101 series, it is BBA certified, verifying that it has an incredibly low level of water absorption, test results show a value between 0.16 and 0.17%. This ensures that the material is not susceptible to frosting or hypothermal ageing. Furthermore, the BBA certificate demonstrates the slate is very resistant to high winds, fire and impacts. Rhys Ben Wright from RBW Carpentry was then selected to install the slate system. A process made easier, thanks to the quality of the slate, with pre-drilled holes and self-drilling fixings. What’s more, natural slate has a number of environmental benefits. According to research carried out by the University of Glasgow, it produces a limited amount of atmospheric carbon (1KgCO2/metre2 over its lifetime) and has a low water and energy consumption rate. Furthermore, by sourcing natural slate from CUPA PIZARRAS, a carbon neutral company, David and Shirley’s cladding solution is verifiably sustainable. Once the project was completed, David and Shirley were over the moon with their new home: “The cladding fits the landscape seamlessly, which is due to the properties of the slate, as well as Arwyn’s design. He was able to shape the building in such a way that it really fits with the outlines of the hilly surroundings. “We were concerned that some of the slates would be lost in recent strong winds; however, the cladding remained completely intact. 1200 msq of Optima Shingles in striking 1.0mm J57S Anodised Regency Gold has been used in the development of the brand new South Shields Interchange Hub in the North East. The client chose Optima Shingles in Anodised Regency Gold as they required a durable finish with a secret system. Optima Shingles also offer a small profile covering with a shallow clad zone.

The £1m centrepiece in the restoration of a historic park in Lancashire has been completed, incorporating innovative use of the MX curtain walling system from Technal. The dramatic sculptural pavilion in Avenham Park was the winning design in an RIBA competition. The building has a strong geometric design, which includes a complex zinc-clad ‘saw tooth’ roof and extensive use of timber, aluminium and glass.
