Alumasc Skyline Facia, Soffit & Copings, part of Alumasc Water Management Solutions (AWMS), provided the perfect finishing touch for four £2 million homes on the site of a former nursing home in Jersey.The design of the new homes called for a practical fascia and soffit system which would be aesthetically pleasing and competitively priced. The architect, Scott Smith of Godel Architects, worked with Jeff Russ, the contractor, and Precision Plastics, Alumasc’s Jersey stockists, to achieve the perfect look. The first part of the project involved roof clad overhangs and producing a complex fascia/coping system. When the developer, Barry Noel, saw the quality and appearance of the installation, he asked the contractor to use Skyline for the balconies too.“We specified Skyline because we know we can rely on it,” says Contractor Jeff Russ. “It’s easy to handle and its lightweight modular design means it’s easy to fit too. It’s maintenance free, durable and because it’s available in a wide range of colours and design options we know it will look great too.”

dormakaba supplies leading Exivo system to luxury YourApartment - a serviced aparthotel accommodation group, located in Bristol Looking to provide guests with a completely contactless service at its 34-studio Clifton Village aparthotel, YourApartment required a smart solution that would integrate with the booking systems, without needing to drill into the existing doors. dormakaba worked closely with the aparthotel to install its Exivo keyless system.Providing affordable lodging for the modern traveller, with a focus on interior design and tech-driven services, YourApartment accommodation aims to offer a guest experience that feels like home regardless of the length of stay. In 2020, the YourApartment Group announced plans to open accommodation in the Clifton Village area of Bristol having acquired the lease on a former student block, Merchants House. A £1.6m redevelopment, the owners wanted to ensure the new aparthotel was in keeping with its deluxe standards. The plans included a streamlined system that allowed guests contactless check-in and access their rooms using a smartphone. However, the lease for Merchants House included a stipulation that, to ensure flexibility of the property, the doors could not be screwed into, and existing door hardware could not be removed or replaced. Determined to offer guests a flexible and high-tech check-in experience, the group sought a contactless, smart solution that would integrate seamlessly with the Your Apartment booking system, that could be both installed and uninstalled at the end of the lease, with no alterations to the door itself. dormakaba overcame stiff competition win the tender for the project, and impressed with its Exivo system, which included Digital Cylinders, a Wireless Hub, and Wireless Extenders. Requiring no cabling within the door, the Exivo Digital Cylinders are powered by a standard battery, and were incredibly easy to fit within minutes without specialist tools or drilling into the existing door required. Thanks to this speed of installation, it took a little over a week for every door to be retrofitted with this smart solution. The product is incredibly simple to use, with users able to access their accommodation using the simple Evolo Smart app, and wireless functionality making it possible for management to transfer access rights remotely. By integrating with the Your Apartment booking system, rights could also be granted automatically, saving on time and maintenance and ensuring security at all times. The Exivo system has impressed so much, that dormakaba has since been invited to provide solutions for the wider YourApartment portfolio. The Greatham Managed Realignment Scheme was part of the Environment Agencies wider " Tees tidal Flood Risk Management Strategy" which imposed a legal requirement upon the Environment Agency to deliver intertidal habitats as compensation for the impact of flood management projects. The challenge was to construct embankments comprising predominantly of site won material. THe size, scale and nature of the works dictates a tight time scale was maintained to ensure rapid return to its natural state. ABGs Erosamat Type 3 was chose, comprising 3 dimensional structure and entangled filaments. Erosamat forms a permanent composite with the natural vegetative root structure supported.

Weavers Quay and the Flour Building are two projects that form part of the Manchester City Council strategy managed by the Manchester Life Development company. Completed in 2019, the £28m development was designed by Buttress Architects and managed by main contractors Graham Construction. The building’s facade was completed using the Corium brick cladding system, installed by Range Roofing.

The site offers 24 hour access, large vehicle access and customer parking; as such it is important that site has a secure perimeter with controlled gated access. Jacksons were specified to install Barbican Imperial® fencing and gates combined with EuroGuard® Regular Mesh in order to improve access control and perimeter security at the site.

Angel Central is a popular shopping destination in Islington, London. Famous for its beautiful Angel Wing sculpture that is situated at the entrance. Artform were invited to provide a selection of street furniture elements that would complement each other and the new improvements. The Strata Beam Bench and Seat has subtly faceted concrete legs that create an interesting play between light and shadow, the timber slats match the flooring chosen for the bridge.The Ecomix Litter Bin continues the theme of angles and light with a grey body and white top. The Box Litter Bin was also chosen for an uncovered area, the timber front panel coordinated with the seating. The street furniture package was picked to deliver sophisticated design and a continuity with the new landscaping and architecture. 

Halton Borough Council had an easy decision to make in choosing Brett Landscaping to work on a key infrastructure project on the major traffic route. Brett Landscaping offered Halton Borough Council specialist advice before and during installation of their Trief Containment Kerbs at the Kingsway Central Reservation Redevelopment in Widnes. The project was to rebuild and renovate a dual carriageway’s central reservation which featured low-level walls retaining grass verges that were showing signs of damage due to a combination of weathering and rainwater pressure behind the wall. As part of a major transformation of Wembley Park, which includes Olympic Way, Wade Stainless Steel Linear Channels and Streamline, and perforated gratings were installed beneath the Olympic Steps to provide an effective and long-lasting drainage solution.Built by developer Quintain in a joint project with Brent Council, the Olympic Steps come at the end of Olympic Way—the stretch of road linking Wembley underground station to Wembley Stadium. It was named Olympic Way after it was originally constructed for the 1948 London Olympics.The final stages of this redevelopment were the iconic steps that lead up to the national stadium. The original ramp, known as the pedway, was built as part of the old Wembley Stadium and acted as a bridge over the old coach parks. The Olympic Steps development replaced the outdated, concrete pedway and extended the Olympic Way, increasing the width by 50% and improving accessibility for all visitors in and around Wembley Park. Volker Fitzpatrick was the main contractor on the project.“Working closely with Mick Hawkins, the Site Manager, the aim of the project was to fulfil the client’s drainage requirements to tight deadlines,” says Brian Holden-Earl, Area Sales Manager. “The area is frequently used by visitors, so it was important to deliver our services within a specific timescale.”

The project, designed by Uno-A, welcomes 110 flats in three different types of buildings linked by several planted areas; and various common areas, such as a coworking space and an equipped gym.The façades use GRC (Glassfibre Reinforced Concrete) panels and coloured glass panels to provide architectural identification.Bandalux worked closely with both the architect and the real estate Iempa Immobiliare to provide shading solutions depending on the location and type of building. Z-Box, B-Box Systems and Cofre style awning are place externally, being three different options to management sunlight.Polyscreen® 403 and Trend Light BO fabrics configured these systems according to the lighting needs: visual contact or perfect occultation. On the other hand, Premium Plus roller blinds s are installed inside, providing optimal solar control and comfort.

DUCO contributes with sun protection to the £78m project for The University of Manchester. The architectural sun control DucoSun Ellips 200 mm, supplied by Contrasol, was chosen for the Fallowfield campus. The solar shading is so much more than decoration.About the Fallowfield CampusThe Fallowfield is a student accommodation with 8 multi-storey blocks including a Warden’s flat and Energy Centre, amenity hub, landscaping and external works. Each residence will have 10 bedrooms per floor with ensuite bathroom pods and a shared kitchen. 1,122 student rooms are spread over the blocks with a combined floor area of 32,020m2. The Fallowfield Campus is the main residential campus of the University of Manchester. The mix of shops, cafes, bars and a frequent bus service to and from the city centre makes it an ideal location to live.Construction detailsThe blocks are constructed using pre-fabricated lightweight steel framing system panels which provide structure to the building when used along with composite concrete floors. External materials are predominantly buff brickwork with feature elevations picked out in charcoal fibre cement slate roofing and cladding. The vertically installed solar shading system offers maximum privacy while maintaining the view outside.

When the museum inputted the green roof specification, it showed a potential energy saving of 10% per year, as well as a reduction on the future replacement costs of the heating and cooling plant. Some of the green roofs were funded through Drain London, a partnership project led by the Greater London Authority and funded by Defra. The project aims to better understand surface water flood risk across London, with a view to promote interventions (such as green roofs) to reduce surface water flooding. Sto has supplied the StoTherm Mineral K external wall insulation system with StoLotusan render for the new Day Case and Eye Unit building at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital. Specified by Gilling Dod architects of Chorley, who worked closely with the main contractor Tilbury Douglas, the StoTherm Mineral K system combines impressive insulation with excellent fire protection characteristics. With an A2-s1, d0 reaction to fire classification in accordance with BS EN 13501-1, the non-combustible mineral fibre insulation is fully bonded to the substrate and therefore no additional firebreaks are required. Ideal for both new-build and refurbishment projects, its efficient single-leaf construction also means that interior space within the building is not reduced.  For this project, the system’s mineral fibre insulation boards were secured to the lightweight steel frame and sheathing board substrate with mechanical fixings and StoLevell Uni adhesive and levelling mortar. A StoLevell Duo Plus reinforcing coat embedded with Sto-Glass Fibre Mesh was then applied to the face of the insulation boards, with StoLotusan and StoSilco renders used for the final finish on different sections of the building, using light colours from Sto’s architectural colour range.  StoLotusan is the only render available that uses Sto’s patented Lotus-Effect® technology which delivers impressive water and dirt repellence. It forms a unique surface texture, similar to that of the lotus leaf, that causes the rainwater to run off the render quickly and easily, removing any dirt or dust as it goes. Providing outstanding resistance to the growth of algae and fungus, the building will retain its looks for many years to come.  The new Day Case and Eye Unit is the result of a major £17.5 million investment in developing enhanced ophthalmology and day case services. The new Day Case and Eye Unit now offers an extensive range of diagnostic and treatment facilities for patients with medical eye conditions.

Neath Port Talbot Borough Council contacted Frontier Pitts to upgrade an existing road blocker and tag system. The existing system had been installed for over twenty years.The Road Blockers are used to permit access for buses only, through an area where other vehicles have previously used the road as a bypass to avoid other traffic hotspots in the area.The Tag System Technology has progressed greatly in the last twenty years, and the Council were keen to upgrade the system. The same system is also installed and has been in use at Swansea University since 2018. Gatic Civil Drainage was recently specified for Waitrose’s new store in Oxford for its CastSlot system from its market-leading Slotdrain range. Gatic’s CastSlot is designed to create a continuous interception of surface water, as well as provide a discreet and durable surface opening. Manufactured in three metre lengths of galvanised steel, it benefits from fewer joints and improved flow performance. A high flow inlet and channel capacity meant CastSlot provided a tidy, unobtrusive and functional solution. The cast iron finish gives the system a highly durable and ductile iron top.

Park Central and Quay Central are part of the £5 billion redevelopment Liverpool Waters project to transform 150 acres of historic docklands, the single biggest regeneration project in the history of Liverpool. The Central Docks neighbourhood will be a world class business and leisure district with over 2,000,000 square feet of mixed use floor space, including 710,000 square feet of office space and over 1,000 new waterfront apartments in buildings up to 44 storeys high. PROJECT INFOPark Central is the second phase of the Central Docks residential development. It offers 129 one and two-bedroomed apartments over 14 storeys.Quay Central comprises two blocks offering 96 one-bedroomed and 141 two-bedroomed apartments alongside 5,000 square feet of commercial space and undercroft parking for 50 cars.Elevation design is driven by the historic context of the site, being situated near the Waterloo Warehouse within the wider Waterloo Docks. The site is bound by two contrasting edge conditions. To the south are buildings with a strong industrial character and to the north is a soft landscaped park. The development presents two different external characters depending on the elevation: the south, facing Waterloo Warehouse, features regular punctuated openings with formal recesses while the north pushes out with the use of piers and louvres, expressive depth and verticality towards the green public space.The brick selected for the projects is Woodside Mixture from Forterra’s Butterley range. Made at the company’s Accrington factory, it is a wirecut red clay brick with a printed texture that complements the site’s historic context

Integrated Alumasc Water Management Solutions specified on new mixed-use development.The site of a derelict petrol station located in the historical town of Hemel Hempstead has recently been transformed into a new retail and residential development.Bovingdon High Street now features eight brand new apartments and a new Tesco express outlet, bringing new life into the once disused space near the town centre.The unique design of the site coupled with the number of dwellings planned, saw a number of challenging design factors for the project, including curved roofs and the need for soffits within a confined space.This is where Alumasc Water Management Solutions (AWMS) come into their own, offering a complete solution. An integrated Skyline and Rainwater offering was specified across the development, including Skyline’s bespoke aluminium fascia, soffits & copings. AX moulded extruded gutter systems with combined Swaged downpipes where also part of the final specification. Birmingham New Street Station and the old Pallasades shopping centre has undergone a £600m redevelopment and has now become Grand Central Birmingham. Heavy duty movement joint covers were required for both the centre and its adjoining multi-storey car park to prevent damage due to excessive traffic. CS provided the heavy duty APF Series for the shopping centre’s interior. They are very strong against rolling loads as well as distortion and wear. The robust KB Series joint covers were provided for the multi-storey car park, featuring a unique centre plate with a 1000kg loading capacity.

Henderson’s sliding door hardware systems were specified by Penton Architects for the central dining space and garage of the architects’ own rural new build. Adam Penton commented: “The large sliding doors to the central dining space utilise P C Henderson’s Lift and Slide Base System which was specified for its performance and ability to be housed into a bespoke glazed timber screen and cill system.” The dining room doors open up the side of the house and are used daily during the summer months for ventilation and access to external terracing to create an indoor / outdoor experience.

Triton has supplied 3,280kg of TT Admix, its BBA certified concrete waterproofing system, to a prestigious new build project in West London. The project is a new car dealership situated between the M4 flyover and the site of Brentwood FC's new stadium. The construction comprises a watertight concrete base with welded sheet piled walls and a watertight concrete capping beam to provide a Type B integral waterproofing solution to BS 8102 (2009). On top of the slab is a steel framed structure.

Fed up of renting in London, Joe and Lina decided to build their own on a tiny 38m² plot of land in East London. With a budget of just under £200k they set about delivering Joe’s innovative concept for a six half-floor house with floating concrete slab, designed to maximise the space into a 83m² home, all whilst being filmed by Channel 4’s Grand Designs. However, things soon went south…Within weeks of the project beginning in October 2015, rogue contractors had performed a disastrous basement excavation attempt contrary to the Structural Engineer’s instructions, leaving unsupported banks of earth falling in beneath the street and shutters bursting inwards under the weight of the concrete.This first attempt, described as “spectacularly shambolic” by Kevin McCloud, more than doubled Joe and Lina’s budget for the excavation from £48k to £100k, and caused months of delays in order to get the project back on track.Having already contacted Newton Waterproofing Systems to consult on the poor workmanship, Joe and Newton soon determined that if he were to save his home and get it out of the ground, he would need a specialist contractor to actively communicate, collaborate and listen to him as both the engineer and client.MJ Rooney Construction came on board as contractors in November 2015, and following discussions to determine exactly what was required, modelled the entire project in 4D to ensure that all potential difficulties were solved before work began.With the right lines of communication in place, work recommenced in late January 2016, with the first challenge being to make safe a 3.5 metre high bank of unsupported earth with sheet piles, before creating a new and waterproof structural shell of reinforced concrete.With the shell of the structure in place, Newton and MJ Rooney’s next challenge was a much more welcome one, as they created a bespoke waterproofing solution to accommodate Joe’s ingenious design for a suspended reinforced slab that acted as both a floor and a prop force against the lateral pressure from the basement walls.This entire slab rested on brackets designed by Joe and his structural engineer, insulating it from the external walls by ensuring minimal contact, and only making contact through insulated blocks with enough compressive strength to take the vertical loading. The design also created a cavity around the slab that can be fully insulated, allowing the slab to be used as a thermal mass inside the building without having to insulate the entire external envelope.Working closely with Joe, a solution was devised that enabled the continuity of the waterproofing behind the brackets without compromising the structural design.

Schlüter-Systems used its specialist technical knowledge and a number of key product solutions to minimise floor build-up and guarantee complete waterproofing provision in the refurbishment of one of Ireland’s most magnificent country houses. Set in 840 acres of grounds, Adare Manor was the subject of an 18-month-long renovation—its most extensive in 25 years. 40 new bedrooms have been added to this 19th century neo-gothic masterpiece as well as a host of new facilities; including a swimming pool, boardroom, cinema, spa and 350-capacity ballroom.

Part of the Melia Hotels & Resorts Group since 1999, Melia White House is situated in a striking Grade II listed Art Deco building close to London’s Regent’s Park. Following discussions with Camden Planning, the Clement EB24 range of new steel windows with welded G+ multi pane system was installed. In total nearly 800 windows were installed in two phases requiring the Clement team to work to an exacting schedule.

Hammerson House will be a world-class, 116-bed residential centre for the elderly Jewish Community in Hampstead. Newton Specialist Contractor Cast Contracting Ltd (CCL) were approached during the planning stages to develop a comprehensive waterproofing solution for the extensive basement.CCL recommended the installation of a Newton CDM water management system to comprehensively waterproof the extensive basement. First, they employed the 8mm Newton 508 membrane to the concrete retaining walls of the basement. The 50mm thick Fibran XPS 500-C insulation was then installed beneath more 508 membrane across the entire concrete slab. Additionally, Basedrain drainage channel was installed around the perimeter, including inspection ports to provide a fully maintainable system.This entire system is served by a series of complete sump and pump systems, each consisting of primary and backup NP400 pumps, high water level alarms, and battery backup systems. These are all controlled by Newton’s advanced Control Panel-Pro to ensure a failsafe system, even during a power outage.Finally, Newton’s 107F cementitious waterproof membrane was spray applied to the concrete upstands of the lightwells and lift pits in order to complete the continuous watertight solution.

The design committee at The Highdown Hotel opted for Hafele's Dialock DT710 door terminal sets for their upgrade, designed and was supplied and maintained by Häfele. An advanced locking and identification system, Dialock uses electronic keys, terminals and programming units to allow authorised access with the option to add on keyless smart phone entry at a later date. All of the Highdown’s guestroom doors, as well as the building’s main entrance, have now been fitted with Dialock. The stainless steel handle sets gave the required contemporary touch to a traditional environment.

The Birmingham New Street refurbishment completely re-imagined the Pallasades shopping centre situated above the station. SAS designed, supplied and installed several bespoke metal ceilings specified for the lower retail area within the mall: A mall link feature installed below glass reinforced gypsum features in the mall’s access areas.A lozenge shaped, metal can ceiling with integrated lighting, a slatted SAS700 linear ceiling and SAS320 alongside linear grilles. The aim was to create an ideal meeting place which would serve as a gateway to Birmingham. A massive 50 million people are expected through the door each year.
