Leeds Arts University completed a 5-year £22m building expansion with HERADESIGN® Sonic Element and Baffle Element, installed throughout the main entrance, library and the new group spaces to minimise noise disturbance.The design for the project meant all the mechanical services had to be exposed and the lighting integrated into the hanging canopies.Paul King of DLA Design Group said, "We chose HERADESIGN® because, aside of the acoustic performance, we liked the natural, raw wood wool. IntroductionFerrari World in Abu Dhabi is the world's first Ferrari theme park. The park includes 37 different rides and attractions and features the world's fastest rollercoaster “Formula Rossa” – reaching 240 km/h in 4.9 seconds. The park has been open since 2010 and has been nominated for numerous awards. Project:Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi needed a unique solution to allow for the maintenance of rollercoaster carts. Due to restricted space, a sliding hatch was proposed to allow easy craning in and out.Products Supplied Surespan manufactured and supplied an SLHE Aluminium, thermally broken, single leaf, electrically operated, sliding roof access hatch. The hatch was a large 5400 x 4000 structural opening sliding hatch.A sliding hatch allowed maximum clear space. Operated by a 230v geared motor. The lid and upstand are filled with 50mm thick CFC and HCFC free Polyisocyanurate insulation which offers a U-Value of 0.43W/m²K.

The Sash Window Workshop to replace several traditional timber windows and a back door in a property in Buckinghamshire.The enquiry was assigned to our sales surveyor who arranged a visit to assess the windows and door, answered any questions and provided them with a quotation for the work.A couple of meetings were held with the customer to discuss and review the details of the quotation and an order was placed for a timber back door and 21 replacement casement windows, comprising of a mixture of single, double and bay windows.The door and windows were manufactured in Accoya, which comes with a 50 year anti-rot guarantee alongside The Sash Window Workshop’s 20 year joinery guarantee.Internally the windows and door were painted in a standard white, with a bespoke green paint applied externally.The installation was carried out by The Sash Window Workshop over 2 weeks, with our site manager visiting the property to check that the installation was progressing smoothly.After the work was completed, the couple commented that they were very happy with their new windows and door.

Shaped Fixed Skylights Were Added To Create A Truly Unique Dimension To A Residential Single Storey Extension.The ChallengeWith parking a premium in this suburban London home, the homeowner did not want to lose their ample parking and chose to add a single storey extension to the rear of the property. The homeowner knew that in order to maximise that amount natural sunlight for their single storey extension that the addition of rooflights would be an ideal solution, however they wanted something different.The SolutionOur clients had decided that they did not want dark corners in their extension, and we provided two bespoke rooflights, to fit the corners of the flat roof. Our bespoke shaped fixed skylights fitted the bill perfectly - one bespoke rooflight was a unique four sided non-standard rooflight, the other was a unique five sided non-standard rooflight. GCB (Guan Chong Berhad) Cocoa UK Limited is a new chocolate factory that opened in Glemsford in 2023. GCB Cocoa was established in Asia when it started trading cocoa beans in the 1980s. The new chocolate factory produces liquid and solid chocolates. The site of the factory is 17-acre which will include new access, car parking, manufacturing facilities, warehousing, and biomass container to supply renewable energy for the manufacturing procedure.Our team Helmsman manufactured, delivered, and installed 14 bespoke cubicles as the clients requested floor-to-ceiling ‘Inline’ changing cubicles, with the measurements to be 2817mm high, 950 wide, and with the door opening at 1950mm. Additionally, they have 14 benches within the changing cubicles that are 900mm wide and 300mm depth.The Inline cubicles were requested to be 'Designer White', which we were supplied by Greenlam. 'Designer White' is a simple colour that stands out. The Cubicle head rail and channel were powder coated in White Aluminium to outline the cubicles.Inside the cubicles, the benches are plasticated in silver grey with slats in 'Arctic White'. As a leading provider of renewable energy across the UK, SSE Energy Services aims to drive the transition to a net zero carbon world through the development, construction and operation of state-of-the-art renewable energy assets. To support this mission, in 2017 SSE built a wind farm in Stronelairg - a remote area of Scotland near Loch Ness. At an elevation of around 600 meters above sea level, it is one of SSE’s windiest sites. The site includes 66 wind turbines and has the capacity to generate 228 MW of energy.As part of the project, SSE needed to create three transformer enclosure bays on the site, each of which had to meet a demanding four-hour fire-rated standard. This required the installation of walls and ceilings - as well as internal access doors for maintenance personal - that would all meet this high-level of fire resistance. It was also necessary that various penetrations, including wall bushings, were able to safely pass through the barriers in the enclosure bays.An additional challenge was that the project would have to be completed in an isolated setting where the work would be constantly exposed to cold, wet weather conditions. Having worked with Promat and its products for more than a decade, the project’s subcontractor, Invicta, knew its fire protection solutions would be a perfect fit for the wind farm’s unique requirements.

About the project:Dublin Doors are a distributor of door leafs to door manufacturers throughout Ireland. Since Brexit, the market in Ireland requires the EN 1634-1 fire testing standard, as opposed to the previously accepted the British Standard BS 476. A customer of Dublin Doors wanted an overhead concealed door closer combined with 44mm thick doors, and it had to pass the EN fire testing standard.The specification of the doors was: (A) 44mm PB hardwood lipped all round door (B) 38mm PB core faced with 3mm mdf, routed with 2mm decorative groove in the faceDublin Doors were very aware that EN testing is widely considered to be more onerous than BS testing. The inclusion of a drop seal was also a point of concern - many companies have found that using drop seals to control smoke can appear to make the fire test harder to pass, with some experiencing prolonged flaming at the threshold. Rutland was able to help by providing its concealed closer ITS.11204, which can be used in 44mm fire doors – one of only a handful of concealed closers on the market that can do this. Rutland was also able to tap into its network of experts and consultants to discuss possible options, to help Dublin Doors to arrive at a combination that met the specification, and was most likely to succeed in the test. Dublin Doors were also required to write a Pre-Test Verification (PTV) before the test – a requirement at many test labs now. Rutland used its expertise in compliance to help complete this specification.The outcome:The results were excellent, with both doors lasting 49 and 51 minutes respectively in the fire test, for what was a 30-minute FD30 doorset, the more onerous European standard EN 1634-1 to achieve – E30. In our experience of fire testing, this is an excellent result for a 44mm solid timber door, and the Rutland team were just as pleased as Dublin Doors that the door, along with its concealed closer, passed with flying colours.

Speedwell Baths were originally opened in 1937, and quickly became a beloved recreational spot for hundreds of Bristol City dwellers for more than 7 decades. Unfortunately, in 2005, Bristol City Council made the decision for the Baths to close. Drawing on over 20 years of experience installing operable walls, Style was recently challenged to come up with a solution to divide a large meeting area, despite there being no suitable structure in the ceiling to utilise as a fixing point. After some lateral thinking and close communication with the client, a non-structural timber frame was created for support, with the weight of the folding wall being transferred to the ground via a surface mounted floor track. Clarendon is a project undertaken by Berkeley Group in North London, as part of a regeneration scheme that will provide over 1,700 homes and 125,000 sq ft of commercial space.This project aims to make the best use of brownfield land and also highlight the benefit of master planning which helped the scheme win “the best 2022 planning award”.Sayfa Group supplied the Clarendon project through a partner contractor, responsible for the height safety and façade access systems throughout the project. There were various base types and styles required for a variety of locations such as balconies, terraces, and rooftops. However, of all the varieties there is no greater example of planning ahead than the Cast-In Davit Base.Why Davit cast-in bases?Davit systems are an essential solution for cleaning and maintenance strategies. They provide easy and safe access for rope abseil teams to access a building's façade.Cast-in Davit bases are the most cost-effective type of base for both initial and life cycle price basis. The Davits bases are set out to specific datums and are generally tied into the rebar instead of the traditional process of drilling concrete and resin fixing. The process for which is often time consuming, highly weather dependent, and prone to human error. The method of casting in bases accelerates the programme by removing interfaces and potential delays between the trade activities of installing the posts and insulating/weathering the surface. Manufactured from light-weight, durable aluminium components, the Ecco concertina loft ladder is easy to operate yet still offers excellent performance. Capable of supporting loads of 150 kg per step, it is also tested to EN 14975 (DN 4570). It is supplied as a ready to fit unit for ceiling apertures as small as 800mm long by 550mm wide. The Sash Window Workshop were contacted by a couple who were looking to undertake a large project to transform a property in Gloucestershire into an elegant family home.The new wooden windows and doors had to deliver elegance and the traditional look and appearance that the customer wanted from both the inside and outside. They also needed to meet modern window performance standards, with double glazed windows and doors.They arranged to visit the workshop to have a look at how the windows and doors are manufactured and were delighted with the quality, thought and workmanship that goes into all the windows and doors they manufacture. The customer therefore decided to place an order for all the new timber windows and doors.After the work was completed, they commented that they are so pleased and happy with the end result. The customer also noted that the sash windows and doors were instrumental in the transformation of the building into a beautiful family home.

Mustard Tree, one of Greater Manchester’s most loved and respected charities for the homeless and disadvantaged operates from a large warehouse in the city which was in a dilapidated state. £1.6 million was raised to refurbish it and OMI Architects were appointed to design the upgrade which included replacing the external folding doors which were manufactured by Bolton Gate Company and despite being over sixty years old, were still operable and providing security. OMI specified new doors of the same type and Bolton Gate were chosen to install three new doors to the main entrance which were powder coated yellow.

A Stannah Platform Lift is weaving tailored access throughout Whitchurch Silk Mill, a Grade II*-listed Georgian working watermill undergoing a £2.1m regeneration into a fully accessible, industrial heritage attraction. Built in 1815 and sited on the River Test near Winchester, Hampshire, this historic mill weaves silk fabrics using 19th-century machinery. One of just four working silk mills in the country, it is the only one open to visitors. As such, accessibility is key to the mill’s ongoing Preserving the Fabric project, a Heritage Lottery Fund scheme focused on the mill’s sustainable future.
