Selectaglaze was happy to contribute and involved Pilkington with them donating the fire-resistant glass to support the installation. Three Series 40 units with 10mm Pyrodur fire-rated glass were installed, which has a beaded fixed frame system offering 30 minute fire integrity protection.

The site is bound by two contrasting edge conditions. To the south are buildings with a strong industrial character and to the north is a soft landscaped park. The development presents two different external characters depending on the elevation: the south, facing Waterloo Warehouse, features regular punctuated openings with formal recesses while the north pushes out with the use of piers and louvres, expressive depth and verticality towards the green public space.The brick selected for the projects is Woodside Mixture from Forterra’s Butterley range. Made at the company’s Accrington factory, it is a wirecut red clay brick with a printed texture that complements the site’s historic context

The Supply of Soundis Acoustic Cradle & Batten Flooring on the 1st Floor and 2nd Floor needed to achieve and provide service voids and flooring depths of 95mm – 185mm – 200mm – 450mm and 550mm. There was also a requirement for a higher performance specification in the bedrooms over the reception area and restaurant.As the site is ‘Material Change of Use’, conversion from Offices to Habitable Dwellings, the 1,000 sq m2 project was required to provide sound test certificates from on-site tests in order to achieve compliance with Approved Document E Building Regulations, which came into effect in July 2003. The Soundis cradle & batten system has achieved test results well in excess of the requirements when tested on this project and similar developments throughout the UK. Our Cradle and Risers are manufactured from 100% recycled materials assisting to the sustainability targets of projects.

THE PROJECTThe Bushey Heath building is the eighth development created by the Jewish Blind Association and consists of 15 one-bedroom and four two-bedroom apartments. The project cost £6.7 million and has multiple communal areas including a large roof terrace which is available to tenants. This was identified as an area which would require shading and shelter for tenants.THE CHALLENGEThe charity needed a shading solution which could be left out in heavy rain and still provide a suitable amount of shade.THE SOLUTIONTo achieve the desired 10000mm width and 5000mm projection we used the Weinor Pergotex II aluminium roof cover to protect the roof terrace area. This was designed to give residents of the Bushey Heath flats shelter from sun and rain due to the product’s unique PVC fabric panels. The addition of LED roof lighting helped residents use the area later in the evenings with spaced seating provided.

Two key documents, BB103 and BB104, stand at the forefront of this initiative, setting standards to promote inclusivity and accessibility within educational settings.BB103 | Designing Accessible School BuildingsFor mainstream schools, BB103 mandates the inclusion of accessible facilities to accommodate pupils, students, staff, and visitors with disabilities. Crucially, this includes the provision of a specialist hygiene room equipped with either a fixed or mobile hoist, alongside ample space for assistants to facilitate the changing process.In primary schools, the hygiene room must span a minimum of 9m² and feature essentials such as a changing bed and accessible WC.Secondary schools, on the other hand, are required to allocate a minimum of 12m² for their hygiene rooms, which should additionally incorporate an accessible shower, sluice toilet, and changing trolley. These specifications are designed to ensure that hygiene rooms meet the unique needs of students across different age groups and educational settings.According to recent statistics from the DfE, approximately 14.1% of children in the UK have special educational needs, highlighting the critical importance of ensuring that school environments are inclusive and supportive.BB104 | Catering to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)BB104 further refines the standards for hygiene rooms in special schools and alternative provisions (APs). Melody Gardens and Corporation Road in Salford, Manchester were built on behalf of Places for People and For Housing. Watson Homes carried out the work on both developments. For Melody Gardens, it involved the building of a four-storey block compromising 48 apartments; nine two-storey houses, and a bungalow. The properties were built on a 0.4-hectare site once occupied by a Catholic church.THE SOLUTIONEurothane® GP, a low-thermal conductivity panel, provided Melody Gardens’ groundfloor insulation. In conjunction with Eurowall® Cavity, it was also installed at Corporation Road which comprises 18 one-bed and 15 two-bed apartments.
