Charisma Rose - Georgian New Build

Charisma Rose - Georgian New Build

Roseview Windows

Based in Lincoln this multiple dwelling new build project required sash windows to fit its architecture. The homes were built using local stone which meant standard white windows wouldn’t match its high-end appearance. The developers also needed windows that came with high performing benefits such as thermal efficiency, security, all while remaining maintenance-free. Using our in-house spray shop, Charisma Rose was specified in a solid cream option that complimented the stonework beautifully. The trickle vents were also colour matched to seamlessly blend in with the windows and keep the luxury charm of the buildings. A traditional astragal bar grid was picked to match Georgian architecture as well as run through horns and a 2/3 unequal split for the ground floor. This project ran smoothly providing more than 50 sash windows over seven dwellings. All windows were manufactured and delivered on time and snag-free, meaning there was no impact on the developers schedules.

A new and vibrant housing development in Chelmsford, Essex recently specified a range of bespoke Skyline solutions where ‘inspirational architecture’ is a key element.Beaulieu Park is a charming new district set around New Hall School, which was originally King Henry VIII’s Tudor palace and estate parkland. The concept behind the development was to create a series of individually designed neighbourhoods, which connect to the wider landscape. “This was an exciting project to get involved with as it was an open specification. This also meant that it was important to get this project absolutely correct commercially,” says John Hemphill, Skyline Technical Sales Manager at Alumasc. “Our work at Beaulieu Park, in conjunction with our customer, involved designing and manufacturing a full and comprehensive range of bespoke Skyline aluminium products such as window pods, copings, canopies, fascia and architectural feature cladding and corner post details.”For this unique project, Skyline collaborated with our ‘Recommended Installer’ Specialised Fixings to deliver and design products that were tailored to each individual house type and plot.

Origin-R Curved Balcony Installation in Cornwall

Origin-R Curved Balcony Installation in Cornwall

Pure Vista Ltd

Contemporary architecture often uses curved profiles to create a clean architectural finish. Now, there is a growing market for domestic curved balcony balustrade.A homeowner in Cornwall approached us looking for a curved glass balustrade for their home. We were more than happy to provide a couple of solutions using one of our patented glass balustrade systems. Primarily, Pure Vista proposed two solutions for this home project in Cornwall, both using our ORIGIN-R balustrade system. ORIGIN-R is appropriate for domestic balconies because it achieves 1.5kN, the building regulation that applies to potentially dangerous drops in domestic, single use properties. It’s also the only Pure Vista balustrade channel that can be manufactured as a curved profile, making it the best solution for a curved installation. The first option is the most aesthetically pleasing, for a curved installation is using curved glass inside a curved ORIGIN-R channel. However, this requires the system to be wet-glazed, something that the customer decided against. So, as an alternative to the wet-glazed curved solution, we proposed and ultimately supplied, a faceted curve balustrade solution using straight sections of channel with mitre joints to follow the curved line of the balcony. The installation itself was taken care of by Camel Glass who are specialist architectural glass installers, also based in Cornwall. The result is this fantastic balcony with a railing that allows the customer to see their view, the garden and stay protected from the Cornish breeze. The silver hand railing along the top provides an aesthetically pleasing edge that connects the stairs and the balcony. Please take a look at the images below for a closer look.

Hôtel du Golf

Rock Unique

"Book your luxury stay." The message to visitors to the Hôtel du Golf website is clear, inviting them to a charming hotel nestled in a sea of green, far from the hustle and bustle of the city centre but close to the pleasures of Deauville, a refined and elite location on the Côte Fleurie in Normandy.Part of the Barrière five-star chain, the Hôtel du Golf has just completed three years of renovations that involved a modernization of its rooms, suites and restaurants. The hotel's aristocratic architecture is complemented by a decidedly contemporary interior design, the signature of an iconic style Made in Normandy: huge sculptures of apples and horses, Chesterfield furniture and Scottish tartans are just some of the most visible features that decorate the rooms. The decor blends with the materials of floor and wall tiles in a symphony of taste and originality, establishing themselves as an exceptional combo for an environment that not only seeks to be refined, but also different and impactful. The majesty of a typically French architecture is enhanced by the particular charm of Atlas Concorde porcelain floor tiles and white body wall tiles used to furnish the bathrooms. Here, lush and captivating nature becomes inspiration for a cutting-edge project that recalls the material essence of stone and its wealth of details. In an enveloping and evocative atmosphere, Atlas Concorde ceramic tiles interpret Luserna stone and quartzitein a new way, giving the spaces a mix of irrepressible earthiness and delicate natural character. Surfaces with intense colours and textures obtained thanks to the most modern and sophisticated ceramic technologies become key components of a vigorous architecture, in harmony with the distinct and personalized character of all the rooms of the French Hotel. The collection chosen for the floors and walls of the bathrooms is the Trust series in the light silver colour and in 30x30 cm and 30x60 cm formats.

Gauld Architecturehave created the perfect modern home usinginsightful architectural detail and two GlazingVision Roof Windows. The drawings called formodern architecture at every corner, from zinccladding to wooden interiors.A single storey doctor’s surgery had previouslybeen converted to a residential building, butunfortunately the home had very little floor area. The property overlooked a private garden behindand suffered from damp as well as a lack ofprivacy from passers-by, and so an upgradewas overdue. Previous planning applications toextend had been refused, and so an alternativeorganisational approach was needed to improveresidential amenity. The proposed works consisted of splitting theaccommodation over three levels, with thebedroom and bathroom a half level belowground, and the kitchen and entrance at streetlevel with the living space a half level above toenable views out over the heads of pedestrians. The split helps to reduce the massing and theasymmetric roof is shaped to minimise impacton the natural light to the neighbour’s windowsand garden behind.Construction commenced on the property, andquickly it was confirmed the boundary brick wallcould be salvaged from the previous structuregiving a familiar and robust public facing edgeand provides a desired sleek finish to the wall. The home also boasts crisp zinc roofing and wallcladding detailing, providing a smooth transitionfrom the exposed bricks to the first storey. The Pitchglaze Roof Windows allowed GauldArchitecture to achieve a seamless junction withthe folded zinc, with the glazing set on the sameplane to give the roof a pleasing continuity.Internally, the glazing is sized so the externalviews are framed only by the lined reveals, with the roof window largely hidden giving asleek finish. Britannia Leisure Centre – anti-climb grating crowns facade surrounding rooftop MUGA

Lang+Fulton

Britannia Leisure Centre is a new multi-sport community complex in Hackney. A key driver for the client was that the building should have a compact footprint. This was achieved by stacking the facilities, creating a rooftop MUGA with tennis courts and 5-a-side football pitches.Lang+Fulton supplied the external steel mesh panels which crown the building and provide panoramic views of London. These were made from their Terra-34 grating which features an anti-climb aperture. The tall slender panels were designed to continue the architectural theme of the building’s columns and vertical elements and were finished in a graphite grey ppc to compliment the neutral palette of stone, concrete and glass. In addition a grating screen was supplied to secure the upper levels of the stairway providing natural daylight and through visibility to the entrance atrium and cafe area. The steel grating also conformed to the requirement for material durability and low maintenance which were key specification considerations. The Britannia Leisure Centre has received multiple awards including Overall Building of the Year (New London Architecture).

Vandersanden introduces 25-year Guarantee Against Gypsum Efflorescence across their range of bricks

Vandersanden Brick

Brick manufacturer Vandersanden, recognised for its innovation, sustainability and craftsmanship, now offers a 25-year guarantee against gypsum efflorescence on its facing bricks and brick slips, ensuring long-lasting, sustainably attractive facades. Vandersanden was the first company to develop a viable, large scale coating solution to their brick range, to provide superior protection against gypsum efflorescence as well as secondary protection against the effects of pollution. This innovative and environmentally sustainable process is available across a range of Vandersanden’s portfolio. The company is the only brick manufacturer to offer the 25-year guarantee. Mathew Davies, National Specification Manager for Vandersanden comments;“This guarantee offers specifiers the peace of mind that the buildings they design will retain the beauty of their original facades. Over time bricks can discolour and lose their lustre because of wet weather, air pollution or gypsum efflorescence. The result can have a detrimental effect on a building’s visual aesthetic, compromising the architect’s design vision. Our brick guarantee, means that brickworks will not be affected by gypsum efflorescence and facades built from Vandersanden’s wide range of bricks, will stay looking good for longer.” Innovative CoatingVandersanden worked with Belgian University, KU Leuven, to develop the solution which treats bricks with an innovative coating after the firing process. The process penetrates to a depth from 5mm to 15mm whilst retaining the original colour of the brick. The liquids contain no harmful substances or chemicals that can damage the brick or the environment and is applied at Vandersanden’s manufacturing facilities in Belgium and The Netherlands. A coated brick has exactly the same pore structure as a non-coated brick and the number of pores and their size remain the same. However, as the walls of the pores are covered with a water-repellent layer, the water droplets are no longer attracted to the walls and will not be absorbed. As the pores remain open, the bricks also retain their resistance to frost. To find out more click here RIBA certified CPD to enhance knowledgeVandersanden offers a RIBA certified CPD on how to prevent brick stains and efflorescence as part of their CPD webinar series. This CPD explains about the discolouration issues commonly experienced with brickwork facades and the reasons behind the different types of staining that occur, and also covers the preventative methods that can help avoid gypsum efflorescence and the protective role that innovative coated bricks can play.
