However, in 2014, the SLG was given the building to revitalise it into a hub for artistic and cultural enrichment. This endeavour was made possible through funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Arts Council England, and the Mayor’s London Regeneration Fund.Architectural Symphony: The Restoration Process6a architects undertook the restoration with utmost respect for the building's historical character. Though structurally sound, the building required extensive restoration due to water damage and dry rot. The design aimed to retain the original layout and scale while introducing brighter and more inviting spaces.A new light-filled atrium was a central addition to the design, bringing a sense of openness to the interior. An iconic feature of the restoration is the gault brick façade on Peckham Road, meticulously repaired to its former glory. Located at the university’s Colchester campus, the £12m innovation centre is part of the Knowledge Gateway research and technology park. The Innovation Centre houses the new Studio X area and will showcase technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality and virtual reality.

The London Borough of Sutton Council wanted to breathe new life into a number of communal areas in their large municipal office building. For this iconic refurbishment, they turned to international flooring and interiors specialist Gerflor to provide an array of spectacular world class flooring that would deliver outstanding durability and incredible eye-catching designs. Pencoedtre High School is a large new build high school in Barry, Wales. When this busy school required a brand-new world class flooring surface for its main indoor sports hall, they simply wanted only the best! The £440m redevelopment of Westgate Oxford shopping centre, Furnitubes designers worked with landscape architects LDA Design to develop a series of planting and seating solutions for the rooftop terraces, designed around a kitchen garden concept and creating a series of unique outdoor spaces for 12 bars and restaurants and offering impressive views of the Oxford skyline and the countryside beyond. Themed areas include the sinuous Crinkle Crankle, a Vegetable Garden and the more formal Garden Court as well as the Kitchen Garden itself. Planters were manufactured predominantly in steel, some with additional timber cladding, others with integrated seating and lighting.

The Goodwin Development Trust are an organisation committed to improving the quality of life within the communities of Hull. Their Octagon Centre provides a range of services that meets the many needs of the community which includes floor space for the Goodwin Table Tennis Club (GTTC) to practice and play on. Providing a suitable playing surface for the GTTC would involve a local flooring installer supplying 300m2 of top-quality flooring from international flooring specialist Gerflor. A barn conversion in Brecon has had a renewable heating system installed, featuring an Aerona³ air source heat pump and a QR hot water cylinder, a system which was designed by Grant UK and installed by a G1 Installer.

One key decisions in the project was the selection of a system for the control of dirt, dust and moisture entering the building, to ensure maximum care of floor coverings. In this case study, we delve into a PermaBound driveway installed by GR Groundworks who were tasked with replacing their customer's worn-out driveway with a beautiful resin bound gravel surface. Continue reading to discover the entire process of creating a magnificent driveway.After carefully browsing the bespoke PermaBound sample case and inspecting each blend, the customer confidently chose Rivieria as the primary blend and Steel Blue for the border and pathways alongside their house. These beautiful selections were made carefully to ensure they complemented each other whilst enhancing the property's overall aesthetic.The GR Groundworks team started the project by excavating and removing the existing, visibly deteriorating driveway.Once the old surface was cleared, a strong hardcore foundation was established. Block paving edges were then laid to form a step at the front door. On to the hardcore, a concrete sub-base was then laid, offering a solid surface for installing their PermaBound surface. To accommodate the installation of two resin bound gravel blends side-by-side, a durable aluminium edging trim was fixed to the concrete surface, creating a crisp yet discreet separation between the two colours.With the thorough groundwork completed to a high standard, the installation of the PermaBound surface could commence.The team prepared the PermaBound installation perfectly, stacking up each separate mix: four bags of specialist stone, a high-quality PermaBound resin binder and a bag of sand.One member of the GR team managed the mixing process using their SoRoTo forced action mixer. For each mix, they added BoundFast Catalyst to the resin binder to accelerate resin curing times in colder weather. They combined the gravel, catalysed resin binder and KLCP sand in the SoRoTo mixer, ensuring each batch was mixed for precisely the same duration.The mixed PermaBound material was then carefully transferred to a wheelbarrow by another team member, transported to the designated installation area and roughly spread out.The third team member then took the lead, hand-troweling using The Resin Bull's 500LT double-handled trowel to craft a well-compacted and level PermaBound driveway. Project: Porcalain Collection, Dresden, Germany

Vauxhall has been at the forefront of major regeneration and over recent years the area has been enhanced with new homes, improved pedestrian and cycle routes, and upgraded green spaces. Vauxhall One (BID), an organisation run by local businesses, planned to further improve the overall quality of the area by focusing on key areas - creating safer, greener and cleaner conditions for the community.Goding Street, located close to Vauxhall’s train, bus and underground station had become an area of vacant, underutilized public space. Vauxhall One wanted to rejuvenate the place with art, colour and urban greening and through a competition - ‘Art in the Arches’ - the railway arches were transformed into a vibrant outdoor art gallery.RailRoad seating and integrated planters were used to extend the adjacent pavement into a parklet solution. All metalwork was powder coated green to match with the vibrancy of the surrounding art, and central tablet rests were added to provide a flat surface for coffee cups, laptops or books. Large bespoke free standing planters were also supplied and powder coated in bright colours. All planters were filled with flowers and foliage, transforming the once unloved space into a social space of vibrancy for members of the public to enjoy.

When an Academy school in Northamptonshire needed to replace their dated and dangerous Granwood sports hall floor with a spectacular new ‘fit for purpose’ indoor sports surface, they turned to international flooring specialist Gerflor to supply 400m2 of their world class Olympic standard Taraflex® Performance vinyl sports floor.At Rushden Academy, they recognise the importance of Physical Education (PE) and the role it has to play in promoting long term, healthy lifestyles and making apositive impact on physical, mental, and social health.Installing the new Gerflor flooring would need to be undertaken by a flooring company that could deliver an excellent finish worthy of both the school and the quality flooring specified.

Already in their dream home, a couple in Godalming needed a home lift installed to help with restricted mobility. After visiting our showrooms, the couple went for our HomeLift, a design driven smart lift with linked phone app. A huge range of colours and flooring helped blend the lift with the interior decor, and gives them freedom. Our team helped the couple pick a better spot for the lift and design artwork for the back wall. Fosroc contacted the designers of the Victoria Dock project in early 2013. Working with the design team Fosroc UK used its highly experienced sales and technical staff to produce a waterproofing solution using Supercast PVC waterstop and Supercast SW hydrophilic waterbar. Materials including special angles were hand made at our Tamworth manufacturing plant and passed the scrutiny of the Crossrail approvals team. To ensure watertight construction Fosroc provided on-site training on product installation. Materials used on C340 have since been passed for use on other rail projects.

When Jazzercise Studio Owner Sarah Sydney-Sheppard moved her business into its own purpose-built facility in the Southernhay area of Exeter she turned to international flooring specialist Gerflor to provide 200m2 of their world-renowned Taraflex® Multi-Use vinyl sports flooring for both the main studio and reception areas.

LTS Luxury Trim System from Gradus was specified for the Blunsdon House Hotel, a unique four-star family owned hotel. The luxurious Blunsdon House has 108 bedrooms, two restaurants, three bars, 11 meeting rooms and a leisure club with an indoor pool and small golf course. As part of a recent refurbishment project in Carrie’s bar, the hotel required a durable, robust trim to withstand the amount of traffic accessing the bar daily. Gradus Luxury Trim System in polished brass was installed to create a safe transition between floorcoverings, whilst creating a premium and modern look.

We supplied and fitted a combination of Wall Protection solutions at St Ninian’s High School in East Renfrewshire, reducing the impact of scuffs and scrapes in the school’s corridors, improving its internal appearance and enhancing the environment. “We were looking for a way to deal with wear and tear and how to keep the school in pristine condition, particularly after the refurbishment of certain areas,” explains Anne O’Neill, Business Support Manager at St Ninian’s. “It was clear that a new approach was needed, so we contacted Gradus about their wall protection solutions.”

In specifying the all-important flooring aspect of the project Blue Jelly would select some 113 sq m of Creation 70 LVT flooring from international flooring specialists Gerflor. The automatic TSA 160 door drive ensures light and reliable opening and closing of the automatic doors, even in heavily frequented areas. The TS 4000 overhead door closer provides flexible ease of access at swing doors with manual opening. The closing force of the door closers can be individually set and can be perfectly adjusted to meet the needs of each clinical area. They enable door leaves to be opened with minimal effort, e.g. for children and weak adults. The TSA drives make transportation of beds and/or patients easier for clinical staff.Access control for supervised clinical areasTo safeguard access control to sensitive clinical areas, the swing doors to the operating rooms and intensive card wards were also equipped with a TSA drive with an electromagnetic locking system. This guarantees that only authorised persons can enter these areas.

The goal was to create three 2-3 bedroom dwellings, a canal side café, commercial spaces for leisure companies, and a museum showcasing the canal's history and the lives of mill workers.ADDC Architects, renowned conservation experts, were entrusted with the task of designing the conversion. They skillfully worked around the intricate history of the original brick buildings, which had gone through multiple alterations and rebuilds in the 19th century. The architects aimed to preserve the unique character of the cottages while ensuring a functional layout suitable for their new purpose.The restoration process involved an incredible community effort, with local tradesmen, contractors, and volunteers coming together to bring the cottages back to life. The extensive work included clearing vegetation and debris, erecting scaffolding, reinforcing timbers, and salvaging original bricks and slates for rebuilding.One crucial aspect of the restoration was the installation of new timber windows. Gowercroft Joinery, a reputable local manufacturer with expertise in heritage and restoration projects, supplied the traditional Chatsworth sliding sash windows for the canal-facing elevations. These windows perfectly matched the original designs, featuring slim finger-jointed frames and Georgian styled glazing bars. At the rear, Hardwick casement windows were installed to maintain a utilitarian look consistent with the building's history.Crafted from solid Red Grandis hardwood, the windows offered both elegance and energy efficiency. The bespoke curved top casements faithfully reinstated, and Melbourne hardwood doors further enhanced the joinery and timber craftsmanship throughout the cottages.The restored Canal Cottages now stand as a symbol of the Trust's broader vision to revive the 13-mile canal and its surrounding areas. Once completed, the canal restoration will create a 25-mile cruising ring, connecting to thousands of miles of navigable waterways across the UK. It will provide opportunities for outdoor activities, such as angling, canoeing, and cycling while promoting wildlife conservation and improving the well-being of local residents.By being a part of this project, Gowercroft Joinery has not only contributed to the architectural heritage but also supported the revival of the Derby Canal, acting as a catalyst for regeneration in the city centre. A Wiltshire farmhouse has updated its heating system, replacing its original heat pump with a Grant Aerona³ air source heat pump which has been installed alongside a QR hot water cylinder. The new heat pump and cylinder were integrated alongside an existing solar thermal system, giving the property’s renewable heating system an upgrade.

In a recent refurbishment of their main sports hall the choice of the playing indoor surface underwent a rigorous specification process. The hugely important decision would demand that only the best products be used and the final specification would settle on some 610m2 of Taraflex® vinyl sports flooring in ‘Maple’ from international flooring specialist Gerflor.
