Colours inspired by the natural environment, combined with the outstanding performance of Forbo Flooring Systems’ luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and carpet tile solutions, have helped AMH Workspace create an uplifting working environment for Furniture Clinic’s new HQ, which ‘brings the outdoors indoors’.AMH Workspace was brought on board by Furniture Clinic as part of the refurbishment project to create a warm and welcoming new HQ for the company’s 65 employees. With wood being an integral part of the business, it naturally features prominently both on the external façade of the building and internally.A striking feature of the new 50,000 sq ft premises is the atrium area with a cedar slat wall covered with natural moss that catches the eye as soon as you enter the building. Full floor to ceiling height windows and a balcony area with open walkways completes the visual spectacle and have transformed the entrance area into a bright, welcoming and memorable space.“Using Forbo’s Allura Flex LVT flooring in Brown Raw Timber in the ground floor reception area adds warmth to such a vast space,” explained Heather. Available in 34 wood designs, Allura Flex comes in 4 different plank sizes, offering greater design freedom. The matte surface features a natural looking fine wood grain with a true to life embossing, while the tile’s special backing is designed for comfort and improved impact sound reduction. This has helped to control the noise in the expansive reception area.Heather continued: “We chose Allura Flex for its natural looking characteristics. The extra-large 150 x 28 cm planks were perfect for such a large space, while the 5mm thickness and 1mm wear layer offers exceptional performance, making it the ideal solution for this high traffic area.”Forbo’s Tessera Cloudscape carpet tiles in the green hues of Monsoon Cloud and Summer Storm have been used throughout the offices and meeting rooms. In the open office area, Cloudscape has been installed in conjunction with Allura Flex, again in the Brown Raw Timber colourway, to create separate work and meeting/breakout zones. Forbo’s range of Tessera carpet tiles combine well with Allura Flex LVT, as the same adhesive can be used during installation, which means there is no need for transition strips, enabling a seamlessly integrated flooring design.

Fibre bonded Array carpets provided durability and performance in this high-traffic environment. Carpet tiles could be cut on-site without the risk of fraying. Matched the University’s corporate colour scheme and complemented the interiors of other buildings on campus.

In looking for a full tanking solution for the ensuite bathrooms of renowned chef Michael Caines’ dream project, stone specialists Devon Stone elected to use various forms of the multi-functional tile backerboard Schlüter®-KERDI-BOARD.

The challengeA new 53,280ft campus was being built to enable three schools to co-locate. An Additional Support Needs (ASN) unit and a new Early Learning and Childcare Centre (ELCC) would also operate at the site.In total there would be 21 open-plan flexible learning spaces for the potential 747 students, as well as a centrally-located shared administrative areas, gym halls and assembly area, while the ASN has capacity to assist 36 pupils with a varying range of support needs.To ensure the success of this modern and multi-faceted open-plan approach to learning, the specification of ceiling systems with high performing acoustic control and total design flexibility was imperative.The solutionFor maximum acoustic comfort Zentia’s Oplia hA Tegular within a standard 24mm grid was used in offices, classrooms and stores.These tiles perform to Sound Absorption Class A and were also the first mineral ceiling tile in Europe to win Cradle to Cradle™ certification as part of the new generation of sustainable and acoustic ceilings offered by Zentia.In keeping with the modern and sleek design of the campus, Zentia’s integrated ceiling systems featuring Perla OP Tegular 15 planks were also used throughout. Fouche Bathrooms Ltd based in Wrexham, Wales, worked in conjunction with Dural to renovate and tile an ultra modern bathroom. The client’s inspiration was a contemporary, industrial look. The bathroom is ultra modern in feel. It features a beautiful freestanding bath on a perfect white expanse of floor. 

Renovation work on a grade II listed church building in Merseyside - designed by the renowned Liverpool architect Francis Xavier Velarde - included new roofing utilising concrete roof tiles from Ibstock, with the work undertaken by Fulwood Roofing Services (Northern) Ltd.

The Great Northern Tiling Company have used UltraTile to create a subtropical swimming paradise at iconic family resort, Center Parcs.BackgroundLocated in the heart of Nottingham’s famous Sherwood Forest, Center Parcs is a much-loved family resort home to variety of activities and villages, including the recently renovated Subtropical Swimming Paradise Village.The ChallengeThe project began mid-2020 during the UK’s first lockdown. To make the most of the facilities being empty, the project continued to grow in size as the team at Center Parcs rejuvenated further areas across the family resort.“Working in constant 30°C+ temperatures during summer 2020 was challenging for both our tilers and the adhesive. Fitting Quartzite stone to the seating areas, Jacuzzi and stairs was technically demanding”. Darren Nockall, Director at The Great Northern Tiling Company.

Swansea Council has transformed the support it delivers to pupils either outside or at risk of leaving mainstream education by building a brand new £9.64M school. When ‘scoping-out’ the project Swansea Council in conjunction with the contractor, would specify over 2000m2 of Gradus carpet tiles for the flooring element of the project. Broadrib and Array was specified as part of the refurbishment of Portland House – one of Worthing & Adur Councils’ main administration buildings. The project involved the supply of over 2000m² of Heckmondwike commercial carpet tiles, including Broadrib, Array and Diamond in Charcoal. Allowed for the creation of a contemporary, yet durable, work space.

St Mary’s RC Primary School wanted a robust flooring that was suitable for the school activities that take place in the halls like PE and assemblies. In addition, and in contrast to the previous brown floor, a colourful flooring was required. As a result, 300 sqm of Attraction® tiles in Wattaru, a deep and vivid blue.

A former pub located in the heart of Taporley village, Cheshire, has been converted into a luxury health and welbeing centre, featuring a state-of-the-art-gym, treatment rooms and apartments for staff use. Instinct Gym and Wellbeing aims to help improve the health and mental wellbeing of the local community through new initiatives. When it came to selection the best floor coverings, having worked with JA Flooring on previous projects  Enigma Holdings Group, the owners of the building, called upon the flooring contractor once more. As aesthetics and durability were key objectives of the project, JA Flooring advised the use of an array of solutions from Forbo Flooring Systems’ portfolio including its Allura luxury vinyl tiles (LVT), which played a significant role in the renovation works.The natural wood and stone aesthetic, combined with the benefits of strong, comfortable vinyl tiles, meant that Allura was installed in the gym, treatment rooms, spin studios and circulation areas. In the treatment rooms where a more serene surrounding was required, Allura Wood in the Whitewash Elegant Oak colourway was used.In the entrance and reception area, a bespoke Coral Logo entrance flooring mat was produced to reinforce the Instinct Gym and Wellbeing branding – helping to create that all important first impression, whilst offering protection in extreme traffic conditions and maximum functional performance.Finally, Tessera Earthscape carpet tiles in Iceberg were installed in the apartments; and in the changing facilities and kitchens, the Surestep range in various neutral colourways helped to complement the overall sophisticated interior of the health and wellbeing centre.

When adhesive-free flooring was specified for this HQ office refit, the contractor needed an installation method that was compatible with carpet from Desso, LVT from Tarkett and woven vinyl tiles from Bolon. IOBAC Magtabs MT4+ were the ideal solution for installation onto raised metal access flooring.

Situated in Richmond, Surrey and overlooking the River Thames, the Petersham Hotel undertook a refurbishment of the Tower suite to ensure an unforgettable visit alongside the equally picturesque views. Tile and stone protection experts Schlüter-Systems were on hand to provide a level entry system solution for the bathroom of this stunning area of the hotel.

Stopgap 1200 Pro levelling compound and F46 pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive have led the way in refurbishing floors at Heythrop Park, near Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire, following its acquisition by Warner Leisure Hotels, as part of a four-year, £40 million renovation.Flooring contractors were commissioned to install a range of floorcoverings throughout the site’s public areas, including in the 300-year-old, Grade II-listed manor house, which is set in a 440-acre country estate, as well as the adjoining hotel complex.The project included work in the reception, two ground-floor theatres, bar, restaurant and lounge areas, as well as connecting staircases and corridors, in the modern part of the hotel.Stopgap 1200 Pro high-performance levelling compound was used to raise subfloor levels so that LVT floorcoverings and inlaid carpet would sit perfectly flush with previously installed ceramic tiles, with areas divided by custom-made CAT brass edging strips. Stopgap Micro Rapid fast-setting, fast-drying floor finishing compound was used to address minor subfloor imperfections.Stopgap 1200 Pro was also used to create a perfectly smooth surface for grey loose-lay Forbo Coral carpet tiles in the entranceway of the reception, where heavy-duty made-to-measure Newhay grid entrance well matting was installed.Behind the reception desk, Plusfloor concrete-effect luxury vinyl tiles were installed with Styccobond F46 pressure sensitive adhesive, which provides a high bond strength that increases as it is trafficked, as well as strong initial tack, meaning that tiles or planks won’t move around while working. The indefinite open time offered by the product negates the risk of late placement, another advantage when there’s complex designs and patterns.Contractors installed bespoke Brintons carpet in a small seating area on one side of the reception and in front of the entrances to the larger of the hotel’s two ground-floor theatres and Late Lounge Bar, as well as on the steps and accessibility ramp leading from the reception to the 120m2 area, using a dual bond system. This involved using Styccobond F3 to create a permanent bond between carpet and underlay, with the Styccobond F40 providing a peelable bond between the underlay and subfloor.In the theatre, where guests can enjoy live music, drama and comedy performances, Stopgap 1200 Pro was used to patch repair existing subfloors, including where stanchions had been removed, before installing custom-made dark black and blue Newhay carpet.Bespoke Newhay carpet was also installed in the Late Lounge Theatre, which was also furnished with an Amtico wood-effect LVT dancefloor adhered with Styccobond F46. Styccobond F46 was used to install Harlequin Standfast high-performance vinyl sheet on both of the theatres’ stages.Amtico Signature basketweave, wood-effect LVTs were installed in the Late Lounge Bar up to seating areas with bespoke Newhay carpet and ceramic tiles around the bar, as well as on the steps leading to the Late Lounge Theatre. A feature was created in the centre of the room with a large area of herringbone wood-effect LVTs and a border of Amtico Signature Cirrus Twilight grey planks.Similarly, in the first floor ‘Pub and Kitchen’, Karndean ‘Van Gogh’ salvaged wood-effect LVTs were installed up to the bar area, where a border was created using Karndean ‘riven slate’ grey ‘Knight Tiles’, and areas with tables and chairs, where Alternative Flooring ‘Anywhere Rope’ natural carpet was installed. The LVTs were installed up to ceramic tiles around the bar and seating areas with bespoke Newhay carpet.Plusfloor wood floorcoverings were installed on the main staircase leading from the reception to the first and second floors, extending onto the first floor landing and lounge area, using Styccobond B95.Where there were steps in the areas being renovated, including the main staircase, Stycco Flex rapid-curing, flexible tube adhesive was used to affix custom-made CAT brass stair nosings.

Based in the heart of Glasgow, the Bank of Scotland's flagship branch required a makeover that would add personality to the brand, while reflecting the bank's proud Scottish roots. Specified by M Worldwide, an array of Forbo Flooring Systems solutions were installed throughout the building to help create a warm and welcoming space and provide the bank with its own identity.While the Bank of Scotland has a strong history, having been established since 1695, it became part of the Lloyds Banking Group in 2009, as Helen Shelley, Creative Director at M Worldwide explains: “This refurbishment project gave us the ideal opportunity to establish the brand’s character and to create a rich visual story of its Scottish heritage.Forbo’s Tessera In-Touch carpet tile planks in a variety of colourways, including a bespoke shade, and Allura Wood Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) were chosen to create an integrated flooring scheme that would seamlessly connect the various areas of the space.

Because of its position on the upper level of a busy shopping plaza in the heart of London, this gym required a robust flooring solution for the weightlifting area.The selected solution needed to help the gym co‐exist comfortably within the surrounding retail environment.To fulfil this requirement, TVSsupplied SPORTEC Style impact attenuating rubber floor tiles, made from a mixture of black recycled rubber bound together using a polyurethane resin with a coloured EPDM granule added to the wear layer.This product was chosen because the highly resilient material offers substantial protection to the substrate and is particularly effective in busy weight training areas where dumbbells are dropped frequently.The interlocking tiles are simple to install and require little tono maintenance.The resulting floor covering offers good grip underfoot and the bright orange fleck also complements the company’s striking corporate colour scheme.This area of the gym is used for activities such as deadlifting, squatting and bench work using dumbbells.

This elegant beach house bathroom proves that beautiful materials and traditional fittings can create a fresh, modern look that will never date.The design of this home, Bronte House, is inspired by the iconic aesthetic of the homes in Long Islands’ Hamptons. The brief was to combine coastal charm with elegance; a unique style that beach-side Sydney homes manage to showcase so perfectly.Shades of blue, grey and white form the basic colour palette throughout the bathrooms, and offer the perfect backdrop for polished chrome tapware and accessories. Decadent textures such as hand crafted ceramic tiles and marble herringbone floor tiles are paired with softer materials such as fabric blinds and a shiplap-style wooden ceiling. The Mode Huiskes residential complex in the Dutch town of Twello has been completely redesigned, creating an innovative location with a clean and simple look. The outdoor flooring used for the project is the LASTRA 20mm version of Atlas Concorde's Trust collection.The renovation project was designed by architects at Bessel and includes a 675 square meter structure divided into different spaces. The property also includes a charming penthouse measuring 300 square meters, featuring a large, relaxing garden.Trust is the Atlas Concorde collection of porcelain stoneware tiles that recalls the vigour of split stone. Royal Holloway, University of London Library and Student Services Project Profile - features a 10,000 sq metre installation of Milliken modular carpet including a range of designs: Culture Canvas, Laylines and Clerkenwell - Three Corners. This case study demonstrates the acoustic performance of Milliken's cushion backed modular carpet tiles.

Located at Aberdulais Crescent in Cardiff, each of the twelve properties is a traditionally-built bungalow built fifty five years ago. From the outset, the roofing material utilised on each home was manufactured from metal, although they used standard metal sheeting instead of the advanced metal roof tile Metrotile produces.

Intermarché, Saint-Rambert-en-Bugey, France required a flooring which was quick and easy to install, suitable for high traffic retail areas, while being easy to maintain. They also wanted a stylish and attractive finish. The seamless Urban Concrete Grey interlocking loose lay flooring tiles were chosen for their project.

When the Cliff Hotel in Gorleston-on-Sea, Great Yarmouth, wanted to transform an out-dated breakfast room into a stunning new bar and dining area, MBS Flooring set about proving just how easy and creative one can be with Gerflor’s Creation 55 Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) flooring collection.

The project required the stripping and re-covering of the existing 100-year-old roof which was failing. Due to the prominent location of the building on campus, and it being of historical local interest, Keymer’s handmade Traditional Antique and Elizabethan tiles were selected to ensure a sympathetic renovation that was in keeping with the existing building design principles of Queens’ College.

Circle Square is an exciting new neighbourhood in the heart of Manchester.Working with Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, we developed a bespoke colour to reflect the Victorian heritage of the surrounding red brick buildings. We also worked with the specialist contractor to design the tile configuration which was incorporated into pre-fabricated offsite fully glazed units.

The renovation to the domes on the historic Harrods Repository was a fascinating project to have become involved in. Extensive concrete repairs were carried out using Koster corrosion protection and mortar repair materials followed by waterproofing systems installed internally and facade treatments externally on the tiled surfaces.These domes will dominate the London skyline for many years to come!

EH Smith worked with CZWG Architects to develop a bespoke mauve coloured ceramic rainscreen. We are able to match any RAL colour in glazed tiles, so the exact colour that was desired was achieved.We were also able to work with the specialist contractors on the project to design a bespoke engineered support system to accommodate the unique geometry of the façade.
