IKO Polymeric, SIG Design & Technology, and Excel Roofing Services have collaborated to design, supply and install 250m2 of single ply roofing for the new kiosk, glass covered beach walkways and stores which houses the latest Oceanarium residents, ten Humboldt Penguins.

Canal were approached to manufacture and install an exclusive feature staircase for a private residence in Derby. The Cantilever staircase structure was manufactured in mild steel and features American Black Walnut box treads with a laminated glass balustrade.The upper floor featured structural glass balustrading with a stainless-steel slotted handrail that connected to the staircase structure. The handrail was fully welded, satin polished and featured a floating balustrade. The treads underneath the staircase featured strip lights to create ambience and blended perfectly with the contemporary and minimalistic features of the property. The client commented that the finished structure ‘looked superb and was pleased with the overall result’At Canal Architectural we take on board all specification requirements to ensure that the finished staircase design is functional, practical and aesthetically pleasing. The Canal site team worked closely with the contractor to ensure smooth fitting in line with current UK building regulations.

Kings Cross Railway has been one of the largest and most exciting London redevelopments in recent years. In Victorian times Kings Cross was a thriving industrial area but by the end of last century, mostly had fallen into disrepair and dis-used buildings, sidings, warehouses and contaminated land. The move of the Channel Tunnel rail link from Waterloo to St Pancras in 1996 meant the need for change at the 67 acre site. The glass roof consists of two adjacent Victorian steel ‘barrel-vaults’ which now feature our PlasGard patent glazing system. A special glazing bar for use at the ridge was designed with a low external capping so as not to cast shadow onto the photo-voltaic cells to ensure optimal performance. Elsewhere laminated clear glass was used for safety in accordance with overhead glazing guidelines.

Having outgrown their previous offices, Smoove – a company operating in the property sector (formerly ULS) – took the decision to take on three floors at Masters Court; a fully refurbished office building in the quaint town of Thame, Oxfordshire. They swiftly appointed HNB and Leap Architects to deliver an overhaul of the dated interior that would better suit the Smoove team.We were approached to deliver a glass moving wall capable of separating the ground floor kitchen and main open plan space when required. Our Type G200 system was chosen, which provides transfer of natural light when partition is closed while simultaneously stopping the transfer of noise.The minimalist manifestations applied to the glazed panels along with their black painted frames have been designed to match a number of fixed glass partitions within the space, offering a consistent design throughout.

Our ThermGard Roof Light System provided the necessary profiles to achieve the considerable spans involved, some beyond 4.5m. Solar control glass was utilised to reduce heat gain and this combined with a low-emissivity coating provides year round comfort within the building environment.

Working alongside our partner GPBMU we were able to offer our GPI model building maintenance unit which provides 2 person access to the complete façade. This model also incorporates an auxiliary hoist function with a load capacity of 500kg for the glass replacement.

Armourcoat Sculptural creates seamless wall surfaces with impactful designs and cast relief. Each design is created from cast GRG (Glass-fibre Reinforced Gypsum) panels, CAD generated to enable a continuous pattern or unique decorative effect.Specified by Pernille Stafford of Resonate Interiors

Helo completed the installation of a new sauna and steam room at the Novotel Excel as part of an ongoing improvement program to their wet leisure facilities. The rooms are contemporary styled, utilising subtle underbench and underseat lighting in both rooms. Wide glass doors allow easy, inclusive access for all.

As one of the pioneers of remote working solutions, Citrix recently chose to reconfigure their offices, taking on an additional space at the Cambridge Science Park. Aiming to create an environment that would facilitate engagement, creativity and productivity, moveable wall specialists, Style worked closely with architect, Gensler, and contractor, Area Sq, to offer intensely flexible workspace.Delivering exceptional acoustic ratings of 55dB and 52dB respectively, Style installed two Dorma Hüppe Variflex solid moveable walls and a single Variflex glass moveable wall, allowing Citrix staff to section off a meeting area from the main hall and then further sub-divide the space as required. Contributing to the vibrant new décor, all walls feature black RAL 9005 profiles and dry wipe magnetic boards to encourage brainstorming. Cambridge Science Park has been home to the UK Citrix Research and Development team for over a decade. Having occupied approx. 30,000 sq ft of space on the first floor, Citrix was keen to refurbish their existing workplace as well as expand operations by taking over additional space on the ground floor.Reflecting the Citrix vision and culture, the new layout and design maximises the potential of the space, allowing staff to establish new ways of collaborating.When all three walls are in place, three smaller meeting rooms are created. Alternatively, a combination of one large and one small meeting room can be formed, or just one very large space using just the glass moveable wall. The entire space can also be opened-up into one large open plan area. “This is an excellent example of how a combination of glass and solid moveable walls can create really adaptable office space,” said Steve Williams, sales director for Style Midlands.“Thanks to the inclusion of three pass doors, access is simplified and also allows the glass wall to be left in place for extended periods if desired, creating a more permanent space. “However, due to the semi-automatic operation of these operable walls, they can be opened up extremely quickly so that the entire space can be reconfigured for different vents throughout the day.”

The new administration building of the world's leading supplier of polymer materials, with six floors and modern office space, offers a lot of space and optimal working opportunities for up to 750 employees.As the general contractor for the interior work, Lindner SE handled various trades from drywall construction to subcontractor services. The system walls, built-in furniture as well as counters, doors, ceiling and floor systems were produced in-house. In addition, Lindner Leuchtenfabrik (on behalf of the companies Kinzo and Signify) supplied design luminaires for work islands.Room-high, frameless full-glass walls allow natural light from the atrium into the inner areas. Lindner Life Freeze 137 glass partition wall systems create meeting rooms or "meeting boxes" as places of retreat in the otherwise open campus. The ChallengeNo. 1 Horgan’s Quay is one of the development’s three office buildings, with the upper floors of the new modern structure cantilevered over the site’s original Goods Shed. The lobby area features a large glazed partition on the first floor, helping to create an open, light space, as well as sympathetically blending the old restored structure with the new.KCC Group, a door and glazing contractor, were appointed to deliver the EI30 SWS Screen works on the project. Site Contracts Manager, Ger McNamee, said: “In order to ensure the safety of those within the building, 30-minute fire protection was required for the reception area, providing a fire barrier between the lobby and the first floor. Once we had the fire safety glass specification from the architect, O’Mahony Pike Architects, it was up to our team at KCC Group to source a supplier – this is when our relationship with Pyroguard began.”The SolutionTo ensure that the desired aesthetic was achieved, while also meeting building safety regulations, Pyroguard Infinity T-EI30/24-2 SWS fire safety glass was chosen by KCC Group and installed in the glazed partition, within a Jansen steel profile system.Pyroguard Infinity is a range of fire safety glass certified for butt-joint applications. With no vertical frame profiles required, it’s the ideal solution for providing visually appealing seamless partitions. Manufactured to EI classification, Pyroguard Infinity provides the highest level of integrity and heat insulation, protecting against flames, smoke and heat.

The first platform lifts is placed adjacent to the pool deck, linking the underground levels to the outdoors. A customised glass and steel structure protects the lift from weather exposure, whilst maximising on the stunning sea views. The A5000 was a great choice to provide accessibility, luxury and ease of installation at this seaside residence.

Specification / scenario -Traditional Church building requiring discrete but effective access control and partition without spoiling the ambiance of the Church interior. A glass partition was needed to limit access at certain times of the day whilst not blocking out light. Maintaining the light intensity was a key factor in design brief.

Cyclepods designed this specific project for two sets of Island Spacepods, complete with a specially designed, elongated glass canopy for shelter, at Doncaster Civic Centre. The client wanted a form of bike storage that would stand out and make a statement in a bid to encourage cyclists to the Civic Centre and accommodate existing cyclists.

JP Morgan is one of the largest investment firms that reside at Canary Wharf. They had a requirement for premium commercial shower cubicles for their staff. The modern hotel is just one of several new developments being constructed, as the existing town centre is being physically moved and relocated a few miles away.Working with Glasfasader Norr AB, we supplied our Pyroguard Protect toughened fire safety glass throughout the hotel’s internal atrium.

Helo’s design brief was to create two luxurious wellness rooms to overlook the swimming pool in this prestigious central London development. Both the Aroma steam and the Herb Sauna have a full glass frontage with central wide access doors. Finishes throughout are in keeping with the opulence and expectations for this high end development.

Colchester’s Visual Arts Centre is a stunning, crescent-shaped building that treads lightly and shouts loudly. The elegant roof and façade are 100% waterproof thanks to FOAMGLAS® cellular glass insulation. The insulation is covered in Tecu gold sheets seamed and fixed into position, giving this architectural marvel a golden glow.

As part of the multi-million-pound restoration of Grade I listed Manchester Town Hall, window restoration specialist Shepley Engineers is restoring, refurbishing, repairing and replacing hundreds of historic leaded and metal casement windows throughout the site using Hodgson Sealants Metal Casement Putty and Leaded Lite Cement. Each piece of glass from the iron-framed leaded lite windows from the state rooms has been removed, cleaned, repaired – or replaced by new fabrications if necessary – and reinstated using Hodgson’s Leaded Lite Cement in Shepley’s on-site restoration studio. The metal casement windows on the lower floors have been removed to Sheffield for restoration using Hodgson’s Metal Casement Putty, a high quality, hand-applied glazing compound that is formulated or bedding and external fronting of single glass into primed steel, timber frames, sealed hardwood and concrete. It is designed to be overpainted as in this project.

Stratford racecourse has utilised Saige products (Saige rustic decking, Saige Hollow & Solid Contemporary Decking, Saige subframe and Saige balustrade - spindles and glass options) for their outside dining area, winners podium, photo image area, wheelchair viewing area, tv camera areas and main walkways.

The Palm Tower, a new landmark from master developer Nakheel, under construction at the heart of Dubai's iconic Palm Jumeirah, promises that each of its luxury hotel rooms and apartments will feature one of the best views in the city.To achieve this, the 52-storey, 240-metre-tall hotel and residential building will be clad entirely in glass.Of course, Dubai’s climate means that preventing excessive heat build-up inside heavily glazed buildings will always be a priority. For this project, the architect chose to install 50,000 square metres of Pilkington Suncool™ One 30/21 solar control glass so that residents and guests enjoy both stunning vistas in cool, comfortable surroundings.Silver liningThe glass features a state-of-the-art multi-layer coating that incorporates a microscopically thin layer of silver to help reduce heat transmission to just 21 per cent, while maintaining a neutral colour balance in the light passing through, maximising the views.The building is clad in an area of glass equivalent to 192 tennis courts, but because of the advanced magnetron sputtering technique used to apply the coating, just eight kilogrammes of silver was needed to cover the whole tower. The office had decided against the use of glasses and mugs in favour of individual and re-usable travel mugs for each member of staff. They wanted a tea point that reflected this dedication to sustainability. With over 200 members of staff and a modern monochrome aesthetic throughout the office, Gymshark decided a Matte Black Billi was the right fit.

The distinctive, semi-elliptical shape of the new 90m high glass and steel office building at 70 St Mary Axe in London required proven passive fire protection and acoustic solutions that could fit with the unique curved frame. Leading manufacturer of fire, acoustic and thermal insulation products, Siderise, met the challenge.

Pyroguard’s fire safety glass was recently specified for The Netherlands’ Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen, the world’s first publicly accessible art storage facility. A stunning ovoid shaped building standing 40 m tall, with reflective mirrors covering its surface, the depot receives anywhere from 150,000 to 250,000 visitors a year.

The Berkeley Hotel is a luxurious and iconic hotel, housed in the fashionable district of Knightsbridge, London. When renovations were required, Roger Stirk Harbour & Partners designed a glass façade entrance to the hotel. Boon Edam Ltd was consulted to provide a stylish entry solution to complement the updated lobby entrance and reflect the luxurious image of the Berkeley Hotel brand.

To meet the modern and collaborative design requirement, whilst also serving the function of private spaces, Komfort’s Kross Glaze 600 full transom glazed partitioning system and door sets were installed. Also, to complement the office design for both aesthetics and performance, a mixture of acoustic and feature reeded glass was installed to suit the independent office briefs.

The Project The world-famous Lords cricket ground has undergone a huge redevelopment scheme. Phase 1, The Warner Stand, has undergone complete modernisation by Main Contractor BAM and was officially opened by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh on 3rd May 2017.  The refurbishment includes works to the ornate, iconic Victorian Pavilion, with a wing-like roof and fabric canopy; the seating, ensuring maximum visibility for spectators; and the indoor bars and restaurants with panoramic glass windows ensuring the ultimate experience. The Challenge Deliver multiple specifications across differing floors and areas. Propose a system that will deliver a reflective aesthetic, similar to glass. Manufacture and install toughs at bespoke lengths requiring site joints   The SolutionExcelsior was delighted to work on this prestigious project with Populous Architects and BAM Construction. Several specifications and finishes were chosen across the project, our Planar 20 in High Gloss being a favourite. The High Gloss laminate created a glass like, reflective finish which opened up the space and made for a truly show stopping installation. Large cantilevered baywindows and tall glass atria reduce the building’s impact atstreet level and maintain natural light in workspaces andpublic areas. The challenge for Allgood on this project wasto create an ironmongery specification in keeping with thefacility’s elite standards.The Contego range is an antimicrobial copper product,made from a copper alloy, giving it the appearance ofstainless steel while incorporating the bacteria fightingqualities of copper.Killing 99.9% of bacteria within minutes of exposure, therange offered a unique functional capability to the researchcentre, while still matching the interior aesthetic. Contegolever and pull handles were supplied to glass doorsincluding: office and lab doors, while push plates weresupplied to the auditorium and back of house areas.Additionally, Allgood Secure supplied automatic dooroperators to the main entrances of the labs, with fobreaders fitted for Contego lever handles in higher securityareas.

The Challenge was To pump screed 47 floors up in a ‘single pump’ operation. And to lay 1800m2 a day for the Shangri La Hotel section of The Shard. 40mm Gyvlon SKY on a resilient layer to part E, pumped internally in the building to allow the glass cladding and other operations to continue. Noise intrusion from the flightpath into London’s Heathrow Airport has been dramatically cut at Meadowbank Adult Education Centre in Cranford, thanks to Granada secondary glazing.To meet acoustic requirements, a 6.4mm acoustic laminated glass was specified with 19mm acoustic reveal liners. The result was a 53dB reduction in external noise – the equivalent of turning the sound of a diesel bus into a whisper.

LiveLink desperately wanted a Space Invader theme in one of its offices to best illustrate the company’s own creativity to clients. Due to its versatility and colour bank, Enhanced Flooring selected Supacord for the job. The whole look was enhanced by black window frames, red window sills and a large glass door etched with a screenshot from the retro arcade game.

One Vere Street is an extensively redeveloped office building behind a handsome period facade. The property has been finished to an exceptional standard and boasts a number of interesting features including a structural glass staircase. The project was carried with Corley + Woolley. Structural alterations and Cat ‘A’ fit out over 5 floors on the corner of Vere Street and Oxford Street.
