Jacksons Fencing has supplied and installed a range of perimeter fencing and access control at East Wickham Primary School in Kent. The school has over 600 students, with a large site featuring several buildings including classrooms, halls and areas for physical activities. The decision to update their perimeter fencing was part of the school’s aim to provide a safe, happy and welcoming environment for children, staff, parents and visitors.

Walsall College is the largest provider of qualifications for 14-to 19-year-olds in the West Midlands Borough of Walsall. In addition, it also provides education and training for adults, which is delivered both at the college campuses and on-site at workplaces and community centres. In total, more than 11,000 people study vocational technical qualifications, apprenticeships and higher education programmes with the college each year.Its main Wisemore Campus was built in 2009 following a multi-million-pound investment programme designed to provide a vibrant, lively environment that inspires and motivates students. The state-of-the-art facility includes bespoke areas for studying business, creative arts, computing, health, public services and automotive.As is the nature of modern building design, the Wisemore Campus features many hard interior surfaces such as plastered walls, glazed partitions, large windows and carpet-tiled floors. Despite being integral to creating a visually appealing, energy-efficient, safe, secure and comfortable learning environment.Hush Acoustics were invited to carry out a site survey in these relatively poor acoustic environments by Lee Bate, Head of Operational Services. He sought to find an effective response to a large number of complaints from college users in relation to noise in these areas of the building, chiefly as a result of sound reverberation, echo and ambient noise. These issues are known to affect the concentration, focus and engagement of students and staff in schools, colleges and universities, so Walsall College were keen to take the necessary action.The learning pods are used for online training, enabling students to participate and collaborate in Zoom and Teams calls or simply access a quiet area to work. Due to the construction of these rooms, there was a significant acoustic issue that could only be addressed by the introduction of a Class A sound absorber. These would prevent noise reflecting back into the room, which was the cause of the issue.The boardroom presented similar issues. It also features many hard reflective surfaces which were causing it to be very echoey, especially during conference calls and training sessions. To reduce the issue here, a number of Class A absorbers would also need to be installed.Step one was for Hush Acoustics to conduct a site survey. This allowed information to be gathered in order to carry out a series of reverberation calculations with a view to determining how sound absorbers could be used in the affected spaces to control and reduce reverberation and echo.The solution came with Hush Absorber 50 panels installed to the ceilings and walls. These Class A absorber panels utilise a specially formulated 50mm thick acoustic foam, hand finished with interior fabric that is applied to the face, edges and back return. They are designed to fit on any alignment and angle including slopes and ceiling in both portrait and landscape, with a choice of stylish and visually pleasing designs available in sizes, colours and finishes to suit any internal environment.Hush Absorber 50 panels have been highly effective in controlling the problem noise within the areas, dampening the sound issue with a level of absorption material that complies with the design guidance of BB93.The transformation of the learning pods and boardroom has been a great success according to Walsall College’s Head of Operations for the campus, Lee Bate. He said:“We are delighted with the difference the Hush Absorber 50 panels make and the service from Hush. We are extremely happy with how the areas are instantly more comfortable to work from and the panels look good in the spaces they have been installed.”

Limerick Institute of Technology’s Coonagh Campus is the first engineering-focused higher education campus in the Mid-West of Ireland.The new 7,000m2 engineering campus provides an additional 542 places on LIT’s engineering courses, an expansion which is considered essential to support industry demand in the region.Designed to provide agility of use, the campus will go beyond what is traditionally expected from an educational institution. HLM Architects were asked by Wokingham Borough Council to create a community centred and modern building to replace the old and dated Activity Centre. HLM’s design is inspired by the centre’s beautiful and natural setting and supported the Council’s commitment to be carbon neutral by 2030.Celebrating the natural lakeside surroundings, the modern £2.4million scheme provides educational and leisure facilities for the local community in Dinton Pastures County Park for adventures on water and land. The new centre includes an activity hall, adults and children’s changing areas, dual-use teaching and conference spaces, and a coffee shop opening on to a spectator terrace overlooking the lake and park to cater for all the needs of the users and visitors.HLM worked with Reds10 to complete the structure offsite, with the facade applied later on-site. The designed is noted as it doesn’t look like the often maligned rectangular ‘shipping’ container shape which comes to mind when off-site production is mentioned. The size and presence of the two-storey building is specifically designed to be in harmony with the surrounding landscape and sits like a hidden oasis nestled between the treeline and shoreline. 75 per cent of the building was completed offsite; 16 modular frames were built and then transported to Dinton Pastures Country Park and then lifted into place. The facades were then added to the substructure on site. The modular approach significantly reduces the carbon emissions in the construction process.EQUITONE was used on the ground-level of the building. The high-density characteristic of EQUITONE worked well for the high footfall areas that will be getting a lot of contact, and where durability is crucial.The colour was considered a sympathetic complement to the FSC-certified Siberian larch chosen for the upper building, which is designed to weather overtime and blend in further with setting. Another important consideration was that EQUITONE is naturally resistant to many living organisms (fungi, bacteria, insects, vermin, etc.) and requires no harsh chemicals to clean.

Les Quennevais School - Education New Build

Sara Bonfield knew what TK-Team could produce and designed multiple rooms that would have our glass writing surfaces. The room pictured shows a custom glass writing wall in conjunction with twin displays and acoustic wall lining. We produced Glass Writing Boards for many meeting rooms and offices and a stylish Glass WriteWall for the main conference room (pictured). The challenge was to ensure all surfaces were level when finished.The project was completed in co-operation with Forrestfield Studio, and Sara Bonfield.

This huge new cultural center, located in the heart of the capital, covers an area of 214,000 square meters, which equates to the area of thirty football fields. It includes a 2,000-seat opera house, the first in the Gulf emirate, as well as a music center, a conference center and a library of historical documents. The McLaren Technology Centre hosts a variety of diverse environments including; manufacturing facilities, a futuristic wind tunnel, restaurant, pool, gymnasium, museum, visitor centre, and exhibition and conference areas. Surespan was chosen to design and engineer the making of a 70m diameter glazed roof structure that would act as the roof for the visitor's centre. The structure has two fire escape hatches which would be used in the case of an emergency. The team at Surespan were proud to have been selected for such a project because of their superior engineering expertise and unique skills.

Architectural glazing systems by Kawneer were specified as a “key aspect” of the new regional head office of British Sugar’s parent company, the FTSE 25 Associated British Foods (ABF), for their pedigree and quality.CPMG Architects selected products from all of Kawneer’s portfolio for the building on a 4.5-acre site at Cygnet Business Park, Hampton, Peterborough, which would enable the relocation of almost 400 people from ABF businesses locally (AB Sugar, British Sugar, AB Mauri, ABF Ingredients and ABF) with the addition of purpose-built conference and training facilities and a showcase central reception area. Kawneer’s aluminium AA®100 SSG (Structurally Silicone Glazed) curtain walling features on the ground floor reception, meeting/conference spaces and south-facing restaurant/café while AA®100 mullion-drained curtain walling has been used on the first and second floor open-plan offices of the three-storey building.In addition, the 5,755m2 (GIA) building features ultra-thermally efficient AA®720 doors, large (3m high by 9m wide) AA®3572 sliding doors and over-sized (2.4m by 0.7m) AA®720 parallel opening windows, all installed by approved specialist sub-contractor Norman & Underwood.

A number of the building’s roofs at Roundwood Park School needed refurbishing to prevent further water ingress entering the classrooms below. The client wanted the new waterproofing system to be of high quality and provide falls to the roof to help mitigate ponding water. A no capital outlay PV solution and new rooflights were also desired as part of the works to optimise the roofs functionality. The school remained open throughout the project creating logistical challenges.

•An OFSTED ‘Outstanding’ Rated school, the Ormiston Venture Academy in Norwich, specified Supacord carpet with inlaid bespoke logo mats from Heckmondwike. •A brand new entrance plaza provided a focal point for the new academy, with Heckmondwike called upon to produce a bespoke mat with the school’s new branding. •Supacord in Steel Grey was used extensively in the school, particularly in corridors and some classrooms, creating a neutral base for more vibrant furniture.

Home to event and lecture space for the public as well as the University of Glasgow and local businesses. Kelvin Hall also houses the Glasgow Museums and the National Library of Scotland, celebrating the country’s history in historic and present literature and manuscripts as well as maps, films, and digital media.In addition to the educational spaces Kelvin Hall also has fitness suites for both adult and child classes as well as a 100 piece gym and multiple sports hall for public and commercial use. New to the facility in 2019 is the public climbing wall activity centre and soft-play for younger community members!The newly refurbished Kelvin Hall is home to parts of the National Library of Scotland, Glasgow Museums, and University of Glasgow research exhibitions as well as the Glasgow Club hosting fitness classes and children’s gymnastics clubs.

Commercial flooring specialists, Shire Flooring, have used UltraFloor Prime IT Multi-surface Primer and Level IT Two to complete an extensive flooring project at Swanwick School and Sports College.BackgroundSwanwick School and Sports College have extended their outstanding premises to include a new educational block. To install the various floor coverings, experienced flooring specialists, Shire Flooring, used UltraFloor Prime IT Multi-surface Primer and Level IT Two.The ChallengeBefore any levelling could commence, the team at Shire Flooring identified that they would be working on a calcium sulphate screed – a notoriously difficult substrate to work with. With that in mind, UltraFloor’s Area Sales Manager, Mark Berry and Technical Training and Site Manager, Martin Pouncey, visited the site to carry out extensive moisture testing to ensure the moisture level was below 75% RH.The SolutionTo ensure an accurate moisture reading, the laitance was grinded off the surface of the screed. Once the correct moisture levels had been achieved, priming could commence.Formulated to promote adhesion to all UltraFloor smoothing underlayments, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer reduces pinholing, minimising the risk of costly failures. With a coverage rate of 150m² at 3:1 dilution and a second coat at 1:1, Prime IT multi-surface Primer is a must-have product for all flooring installation projects.After the screed had been primed and fully dried, Level IT Two was applied across the new building.There are many reasons why Level IT Two has become UltraFloor’s most popular floor leveller. Its exceptional flow characteristics make it a very easy material to apply to a variety of subfloors in both commercial and domestic flooring projects. A series of stainless steel worktops were specified within classrooms of this Mid-Glamorgan Primary School.A clean, neat and highly resilient result was achieved through the use of continuous worktops, with integrated sinks. Lipped edges (edge 3) were included to prevent spillage and to prevent items rolling-off the worktop onto the floor. Integral upstands were specified to the junctions between the worktop and walls, providing a highly practical and lasting result. 

When Sir John Moore’s Primary School in Appleby Magna, Leicestershire, required a new classroom for their Key Stage 1 children, architectural and construction consultancy YMD Boon were happy to assist. The school was originally designed by Sir Christopher Wren, one of the most highly acclaimed English architects in history. It opened in 1697 as a free school for boys and is now a Grade 1 Listed Building enhancing the picturesque village of Appleby Magna.

The project is distributed on several buildings connected by a corridor , completely bathed in light, but under sustainable and ecological purposes. The Royal College of Pathologists have relocated their London Headquarters to the rapidly changing area of Aldgate, on the Eastern fringes of the city. The new seven storey structure replaces an existing office block, providing a flexible and environmentally efficient building to house their growing needs. The building design includes major conference facilities, meeting rooms, offices, a multi-function auditorium, exhibition space, restaurant facilities and accommodation. Cordek were asked by the specialist concrete frame contractor Oliver Connell & Son to devise a formwork system to allow the construction of ribbed concrete floors.

The stadium’s vast size and increased capacity required washrooms capable of withstanding large volumes of people that will be using the facilities during a variety of events throughout the year, including everything from conferences to sports fixtures. For this project, Dolphin Solutions supplied its BC925 Mini Jumbo Toilet Roll Dispensers and BC924SS Soap Dispensers, as the site needed something that was durable. The lockable nature and stainless steel exterior of these products makes the dispensers vandal resistant and easy to replenish, whilst the non-drip, push-action soap pump prevents the build up of soap on the vanity.

AstraZeneca, an innovative bio-pharmaceutical company, set out to expand their Warsaw office. In addition to creating jobs for another 500 people, the investor wanted to create the real heart of the office - a space different to the existing office, the true Astrazeneca community centre. In addition to Agora, many conference rooms have been designed throughout the office, focus rooms, design work zones and other corners adapted to different types of work. A range of Forbo products were installed in the Astra Zeneca office which was designed by The Massive Design Studio.

The ICE Kraków Congress Centre is the business and cultural hub of Kraków. Located in the heart of the city, it is home to a wide range of diverse events, from international congressional events, business conferences and symposiums to cultural events such as opera, theatre, concerts, ballet and social gatherings. The ICE Kraków Congress Centre covers 36,000m2 across three main halls: The auditorium Hall (1,915 persons), The Theatre Hall (600 persons) and Chamber Hall (300 persons). Hard-wearing coatings were of paramount importance, so Jotun products were the ideal choice.

The £27.5 million Arena heralds the most exciting and important changes to leisure facilities in Derby in the last 40 years. The new arena is primarily a Velodrome with space for sports and physical activity; however it also serves as a venue to host cultural events, exhibitions, product launches and conferences. This formed part of a wider framework project in which Brett Martin Daylight Systems installed rooflights in seven educational facilities. The City of Dreams Mediterranean Resort is Europe’s first integrated resort located in Limassol, Cyprus. The resort is built up of 500 luxury hotel rooms, multiple 5 star restaurants, a casino, spa and adventure park. The City of Dreams Resort has the biggest casino in Europe with a total of 7,500m2 and the biggest conference room in Cyprus. Interfloor was proud to supply 18,000m2 of Duralay Technics 5 and 5,000m2 of Duralay Technics 6 for this project, this underlay was used in areas all over the resort, including the casino, mass gaming room, VIP gaming rooms, restaurants, guestrooms and corridors

Designed by Chaplin Farrant The Nest is a new community sports facility funded by the charity partner of Norwich City football club, to help improve the health and well-being of local residents.The development includes an impressive refurbished clubhouse with changing rooms, physio room, event and conference spaces plus a café and IT suite. Senior’s SF52 aluminium curtain wall and SPW600 aluminium windows have been used throughout the new building to give a light and airy feel. For inclusive access and security, a combination of SPW501 aluminium commercial doors and SD automatic sliding doors were installed.
