In addressing the needs of a high-traffic SEN school, we encountered the challenge of facilitating maximum opening width at the main entrance to accommodate pupils arriving in a variety of special needs vehicles, all while prioritising security and safety for the students.To meet these multifaceted requirements, we devised a tailored solution centred around the design and installation of two bi-folding automatic aluminium doors. These doors were strategically positioned to create an internal lobby, providing a controlled environment where staff could independently manage each door. Crucially, this setup was seamlessly integrated with the existing school access control system, ensuring a high level of security while facilitating smooth traffic flow.Our innovative design also incorporated an air lock system, enhancing safety protocols by creating a secure buffer zone between the exterior and interior of the school. This air lock system not only provided added security but also offered the flexibility to transition to fully automated doors during open days and emergencies, ensuring efficient and safe ingress and egress as needed.By combining functionality, security, and adaptability, our solution successfully addressed the unique challenges faced by SEN school, providing a safe and accessible entrance that could accommodate the diverse needs of its student body while maintaining a high level of security at all times.

In addition to its reputation as one of the top golfing destinations in the state, the Doylestown Country Club’s culinary team strives to create memorable dining experiences for all members and guests. To achieve this goal, the country club has created a new space to elevate kitchen safety and ensure efficient back-of-house operations.ApproachDoylestown Country Club wanted a floor that would provide comfort for their staff, who spend prolonged periods on their feet. Other considerations including reducing noise transferrence in a busy commercial kitchen and having a floor that could be installed around the kitchen drains which required a watertight, seamless transition with the flooring.SolutionAfter consultation between the Altro sales and technical teams, together with the flooring installer and specifier, 350sqm of Altro Stronghold 30 was specified, keeping staff safe from slips and helping to reduce fatigue thanks to its 3mm thickness.Altro Stronghold 30 achieves Altro’s highest rating for slip resistance (PTV ≥55, R12) and is designed to minimise risk in wet and greasy conditions for the lifetime of the flooring. Especially for rooms with a very high ceiling, such as this property in Edinburgh.The challenge…Premier Loft Ladders received an enquiry from Magnus in Edinburgh who discovered the loft access specialist through an internet search. Magnus’ goal was to purchase a sturdy retractable ladder as part of a larger project; altering the loft space to function as a study, separate from the living area below.The ladder had to offer reliable, safe access to and from the loft whilst bearing in mind a high ceiling of 3.5 metres with restricted space for the ladder to deploy when opening. Ease of operation was also of great importance to Magnus so that deploying and stowing the ladder away could be made as effortless as possible.The Solution…With a heavy-duty aluminium structure and space saving qualities, the Supreme Electric from Premier Loft Ladders was chosen for this application.The Supreme Electric comes with a reliable motor, hard wired to the main supply via a control box and backup battery so it can be deployed and retracted effortlessly with the push of a button! Hard wired switches were also supplied, one on the landing and one in the loft area next to the opening so the ladder can be operated from above and below.The ladder itself features large treads (140mm deep) and a telescopic hand rail as standard, with an additional handrail added for this specific application providing safe, easy access to and from the loft.Installation Challenges…After the Supreme Electric ladder had been installed, there was found to be an issue preventing it from operating automatically. During this time Magnus could still use the ladder manually, thanks to the override option and counterbalance spring design.We worked with Magnus and his electrician to try and resolve the issue. This included checking warning indicators and working through a trouble-shooting guide. Unfortunately, it was not possible to fully diagnose the problem.As such, we sent replacement components for the ladder which were successfully installed by a different firm to the original installation team. After this the ladder operated perfectly, for which Magnus was very grateful.The results…A perfect solution was achieved for Magnus. The Supreme Electric ladder was positioned comfortably in the available space and gave him a safe, reliable access to and from the loft.

An architect designed stand-alone cycle hub for new railway station

A stand-alone cycle hub with two tier parking for 120 bicycles now provides high-quality, safe and secure bike storage at Dundee’s new railway station.
The vison was for a structure that wasn’t a ‘box shaped’. The solution incorporated a rear section of Lang+Fulton’s Italia-80 louvred panels. The louvers were also introduced at the top and around the sides of the glazing allowing a good air flow.The panels were hot-dip galvanised and polyester powder coated to provide a smart, long-lasting finish in a location with close proximity to the sea.

Refurbishment of a historic building to form an office complex for Derby City Council. The existing floor was in poor repair and degraded and the architects had restrictions on floor build up.
With time being of the essence the main contractor needed a material which could be installed quickly and safely. Gyvlon XTR was chosen for its increased strength, due to the commercial applications (C35/F7). XTR can be laid at 40mm reducing the floor section compared to sand cement screed. 40mm XTR Gyvlon screed resolved all the issues and 11,000m2 was successfully installed to the delight of the main contractor.

The flood screen is a cork gasket for our single and double flyscreen air bricks and is simply inserted in the air brick when flooding is likely or imminent in place of the fly mesh. Once the danger has passed the copper fly mesh is replaced and the cork flood screen stored away safely until require again.

From the Tower of London to The Royal Palaces, Coopers is trusted to install fire and smoke curtains barriers for some of the world’s most iconic heritage buildings. With this knowledge, appointed architects Arrol & Snell assigned Coopers to develop a system that would help protect the cathedral’s Undercroft and Treasury from smoke migration in the event of a fire.
The smoke barrier system had to allow visitors to exit the Undercroft and Treasury safely, whilst preventing smoke from entering the main body of the cathedral, but any system had to be sympathetic to its unique and ancient architecture.

Junction 17 is a 20 bed unit at Prestwich Hospital and offers a specialist adolescent mental health service for young people who require assessment and treatment for a range of complex mental health difficulties. Junction 17 provides a wide range of services both in the community and within a state of the art inpatient unit.
Whilst trying to create a safe environment the Trust worked hard to design a stylish and colourful interior. Striking colours including Jazzberry and Aurora were selected from the Equinox Stripe and Tones ranges to create this co-ordinating, inspiring and welcoming setting.

The £27 million Art and Design Academy is the first phase of John Moores University campus masterplan.
Rick Mather Architects specified 32 Stainless Steel Howe Green access covers, ranging from the 7500 Series to the 1050 Series, to enable easy and safe access to underfloor services in a number of locations.
The panels were individually manufactured to match the size of the Charcon Appalachian stone floor slabs and to blend seamlessly with the surroundings.
Featuring double seals, the access covers meet the highest standards of hygiene and security as well as being corrosion and maintenance-free.
The Cutty Sark, London

Over 50 Howe Green 7500 Series access covers were made to order for one of London’s popular tourist attractions - The Cutty Sark, as part of an extensive refurbishment project.
The aluminium covers were manufactured with bespoke Z-section supports to provide a safe, reliable route to essential ventilation ducting used to keep air circulating in what is effectively a large void under the historic clipper.
The covers were fitted into raised flooring within the new museum facility. The 7500 Series are designed to withstand high levels of pedestrian traffic.

Howe Green Ltd supplied a number of HSE75 Series Hinged Aluminium Floor Access Covers for a new £1.5 billion hospital facility in Stockholm.
The requirement was for a solution that would enable regular access to the underground power stations and escape routes located underneath the hospital.
The gas assisted hinged HSE75 floor hatches provide easy and safe access ensuring that maintenance can be carried out with the minimum of disruption.
The floor hatches have been installed in various areas of the hospital and infilled with both concrete and tiled flooring to provide a seamless, flush floor finish.

Howe Green’s 7500 Series Medium Duty Aluminium Floor Access Covers were supplied for the Nationalmuseum of Art in Stockholm, which is currently undergoing an extensive restoration programme.
The premier tourist attraction required an access solution that was visually appealing, secure and of superior quality.
The 7500 Series Floor Access Covers were fitted as duct runs in the museum. The majority of covers were infilled with limestone floor tiles while the remaining units have a visible concrete finish. The covers offer safe and easy access to cabling and other services located beneath the flooring.

To reduce the noise impact for both local residents and worshippers, our Jakoustic® Reflective acoustic fencing was installed, resulting in a safe, secure, anti-climb perimeter with an aesthetically pleasing noise barrier that blends in with the surrounding area. This is achieved using a flat timber profile along with interlocking ‘V’ boards which reduces the rate at which sound waves can pass through the barrier.

The largest library in the whole of the UK was designed with the community in mind. The fashionable design was quickly accepted and turned into fruition. The building won the RIBA West Midlands Award and named the best overall building of the year in 2014 as well as being named “Building of the Year 2013” in The Architects Journal. Over 30,000, Grainger’s H Range, raised access flooring pedestals were installed here, by Carillion and Capita Symonds to provide a highly durable and decorative floor, under which cabling could be routed. Tucking all important services safely out of harms reach.

Koster Epoxy flooring systems were installed to the concrete bund of a chemical plant in Wales. There was a need to prevent chemical spillages entering the concrete so they could be cleaned in a safe manner.
Koster Aquatecnic worked with the engineers and client to design a system which could be installed and offer the most suitable level of protection.
The cleaned surface was prepared with Koster Polysil TG500 and Koster NB1 Grey. Koster SL Premium was used to provide a strong level surface to accept the Koster LF-VL on the floor and Koster EM-VS on the up-stands.

Klang Valley MRT is poised to be the backbone of the public transport system in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and is expected to become operational in phases and save 280 million man hours annually in commuter travelling time. The roofs required engineered horizontal lifeline systems for workers to be kept safe while performing periodic maintenance tasks. These systems had to be robustly designed to arrest a worker’s fall and also protect the building envelope from damage in the event of a fall.

Ecco loft ladder steps up to the challenge

Premier Loft Ladders were approached for a challenging project requiring a loft ladder suitable for providing safe and easy access to the loft of a period home. However, the high ceiling and small opening presented an issue, ruling out many loft ladders. Furthermore, safety was an important consideration to the home owners. As such, the retractable ladder needed at least one handrail and wide non-slip treads. Also, it was essential that the ladder was robust and stable. The Building Centre, London’s premier architecture and construction gallery, invited Q-railing to re-design its central staircase. It supplied a staircase balustrade with LED lit handrails and a frameless glass balustrade for the void.
John Bonning, the Building Centre’s commercial director said: “We applied glass risers to each solid oak tread, which safely created the same floating stair effect as the original but made the stair compliant with modern building regulations. The materials reflected the quality of the Building Centre, whilst drawing natural light into the lower gallery.”
Square Line 60x30 stainless steel balustrade + handrail lighting for London pontoon

The sides of the pontoon, bridge and ramp at Battersea’s river boat service required ultra safe balustrades. These had to be a natural fit to the industrial environment. The Square Line 60x30 stainless steel balustrade perfectly suited the job. Its stainless steel posts were welded to the pier for extra robustness, and toughened glass infills of 10 mm thick were added. The Q-lights Spotlight LED system was invisibly embedded in the handrails for extra safety at night. The industrial looking stainless steel elements of the Square Line 60x30 system add to the appearance of the pier.

Two record K41 stainless steel four-leaf revolving doors constructed from glass to provide a modern, minimalistic look were installed.
A stainless steel swing door complete with a record DFA 127 operator has also been installed next to revolving door at the main entrance to provide a wider opening for disabled access and deliveries of large, bulky items to the premises.
Resuseal WB Clear provides clear concrete protective seal at the Warner Brothers Harry Potter Studio Tour

A straightforward hardwearing concrete seal was required at the entrance which would withstand heavy footfall and provide a safe finish. Resuseal WB Clear is a water-based epoxy applied at around 40 microns per coat. This is formulated to penetrate and case harden a concrete surface giving it a much harder wearing surface which is less likely to crumble or degrade. As a clear coat the finish is a semi industrial type look which is often used in retail outlets and commercial buildings. This product is used throughout industry where the principal requirement is to dustproof a surface.
Decorative and seamless flooring supplied for atrium area to Radclyffe School

A new flooring finish was required for the atrium in the Radclyffe School in Oldham, Greater Manchester.
Because the atrium floods this area of the school with so much light through a Perspex roof, it meant that whatever was chosen had to be UV stable, hard wearing and safe.
The system also had to be economic, hard-wearing, easily cleaned, have low odour during application and chemical resistance, slip resistance and non-dusting.
Sherwin-Williams’ technical flooring experts looked at their diverse range of Resuflake options for this specific application covering 800 sq metres.

The luxurious Blunsdon House has 108 bedrooms, two restaurants, three bars, 11 meeting rooms and a leisure club with an indoor pool and small golf course.
As part of a recent refurbishment project in Carrie’s bar, the hotel required a durable, robust trim to withstand the amount of traffic accessing the bar daily. Gradus Luxury Trim System in polished brass was installed to create a safe transition between floorcoverings, whilst creating a premium and modern look.

Open mesh steel balustrades, walkways, stairs and an agora now provide a safe and spectacular descent into the arena as part of an ambitious restoration project of the 1890 amphitheatre at Bradfield College.
The theatre performs triennial Greek plays and celebrated its re-opening with a gala performance of Antigone in May 2014.
The balustrade panels were made from DemiAlto grating with bespoke aperture of 55x110mm. The panels were installed without posts and were fixed through plates, mounted below the finished floor level. The grating was made with a suitable section of bearing bar to take the potential crowd loading.

Working for Hitachi Rail, Lionweld Kennedy supplied open mesh flooring, handrails, stairs and removeable chains to 3 number 250 meter long inspection walkways and 18 number 27 meter long access platforms.Making use of our safegrid and saferails, Lionweld Kennedy provided Stoke Gifford Rail Depot with safe and efficient platforms for inspection. The site is part of a wider £5.7 billion development on the Great Western (GWR) and East Coast Mainlines. For the next 17 years at least, it will serve as a crucial maintenance facility for Hitachi Rail Europe’s service delivery operations.

Ambar Kelly has built a strong working relationship with Lendlease and has collaborated with the contractor on other projects including IQL Stratford.

Back in 2016, the St Mary Magdalene C of E School were in need of a major perimeter demarcation for their 2 hectares of land, MUGA pitches, access control and bespoke playground fencing to prevent unauthorised access onto their premises. The Exempla Fencing System and the Dulok-Lite Twin Wire System were selected for perimeter demaraction whilst Rotop Fencing and Dulok Sport were chosen the the specific MUGA pitches in question.
