Case Study – St Annes Primary School, Liverpool

Twinfix Limited

Canopies are often popular in primary schools because there is an expectation by Ofsted that children, especially in the Early Years Foundation Stage, should have access to the outdoors and be able to enjoy activities outside. While canopies provide shelter against the inclement British weather, many schools see their canopies as an extension to the classroom environment, relieving pressure on space in schools.

Burger King Case Study - Brise Soleil & Canopies

Twinfix Limited

Last year, fast food chain Burger King added forty-eight new restaurants to their rapidly growing portfolio. Twinfix were approached by Ideal Building Systems to design, manufacture & install canopies and Brise Soleils at three of the sites in Kent, Clacton-on-Sea and Swindon. With over 30 years’ experience the Twinfix Technical Team had no problems designing structures to suit the requirements and budget of the client.Twinfix’s expert team designed, manufactured, and installed a brise soleil which covered all four sides of the restaurant at the first site in Swindon and fabricated lean to mono-pitch canopies with squared posts and 3mm thick solid aluminium sheet for roof, complete with brise soleil for rear, sides and front at the restaurants in Kent and Clacton-on-Sea.The structures served two purposes, while providing shelter, they also enhanced the aesthetics of the restaurants and complemented the building’s exterior. Each canopy spans 35 square metres and the roof comprises of pressed aluminium roof at a reduced pitch to fit inside the 150 depths of our frame, concealed gutters and downpipes and prepared for soffits by another contractor. The roofs were powder coated in RAL 3020 Traffic Red and squared aluminium posts powder coated to RAL 9006 White Aluminium. The Brise Soleils are constructed from our 150 x75 rectangular hollow section and had to accommodate some wiring for lights that were installed later by another contractor. These are a striking addition to the building fascia. The design of the proposed future sites look set to follow the same format and we look forward to working with Ideal Building Systems on the upcoming projects.

POSI-Glaze Balustrade Installation for a Cornish Pub

Pure Vista Ltd

Glass Balustrade in Cornwall: The Stargazy Inn is a luxury restaurant with rooms in Port Isaac, Cornwall.Like many Cornish restaurants, the Stargazy Inn enjoys spectacular sea views and benefits from a terrace where guests and diners can make the most of the stunning location. The down side to having a sea view terrace in Cornwall, is that the wind can make al fresco dining uncomfortable. Cornwall is renowned for its prevailing westerly winds, even in the summer! The Stargazy Inn wanted to create a windbreak for their terrace so the space could be opened up for diners, but they didn’t want the fantastic view to be compromised. They came to Pure Vista for their frameless glass balustrade installation in Cornwall. The best windbreak solution when you have a view is glass balustrade. Glass balustrade in Cornwall in particular, is a popular choice since we enjoy incredible views from most of our coastal hotels and restaurants. Glass, as a material, enables these views to be maximised. The product chosen to fulfill the brief for Stargazy Inn, was Pure Vista POSIglaze; glass balustrade that can sustain force loads of up to 1.50kN, perfect for light commercial applications such as restaurant terrace windbreaks. To find out more about what building regulations require of your glass balustrade project, refer to our building regulations web page. The photos below show just how effective the windbreak is. The height is ideal for people to sit beneath and be able to enjoy the view during dinner. Overall, we think installing a glass balustrade as a windbreak was the perfect solution. Keeping the beauty of the Inn and the landscape while fulfilling the brief from the customer.

Heritage Rose - Victorian Contrast

Heritage Rose - Victorian Contrast

Roseview Windows

Based in London, this home’s original black timber windows had rotted due to many years of natural weathering. The homeowners wanted replacement windows that would match their existing sightlines but provide modern thermal performance, save them maintenance costs in the future and enhance security. Because of this, the homeowners explored the timber alternative UPVC option and found our Heritage Rose sash window. Heritage Rose provides ‘A’ rated thermal efficiency and modern security levels as standard but can achieve the slim, authentic sightlines traditional to the original sashes. Using our in-house spray shop, we were able to replicate the home’s original sashes by spraying them black with a woodgrain textured finish. Even with a coloured finish, the homeowners can enjoy maintenance free benefits without the worry of future restoration costs. The windows were finished with a singular vertical astragal bar configuration to match the Victorian period styling of the property and a traditional deep bottom rail. The homeowners would also continue to save money for years to come on heating and maintenance bills.

Ultimate Rose - Welsh Farmhouse

Ultimate Rose - Welsh Farmhouse

Roseview Windows

Located in the Welsh countryside of Rhos-Fawr, a family were building their own Victorian style farmhouse and wanted sash windows to complete the traditional look. The homeowners wanted windows that were over two-metres tall, with a genuine traditional appearance and - because of the exposed location - effective weatherproofing. White woodgrained Ultimate Rose windows were ideal for this project. This conservation-grade timberalternative option allowed for the large sizes (1500 x 2350mm) that this home required, while remaining indistinguishable from timber originals. In addition, our Ultimate Rose can be fully Secure by Design accredited providing full peace of mind. To keep with the Victorian style, a single astragal bar configuration was chosen along with a deep bottom rail. Ultimate Rose also includes a 35mm slim and seamless midrail as standard, providing fully authentic sightlines and allowing the maximum amount of natural light into the home. As a result, the home benefits from impressively large sash windows that beautifully match the traditional style of the building, but in a maintenance-free package that includes the thermal and security performance that comes with modern materials and manufacturing techniques.

Ultimate Rose - Robinson Home

Roseview Windows

Located in Surrey, this detached Victorian property needed its top floor timber windows replaced due to rotting. Maintaining the windows was proving costly for the homeowners but they needed a solution that would still look authentic next to their ground floor timber sash windows. After researching their options, the homeowners came across Roseview’s traditional timber alternative sash windows. The possibility of maintenance-free sash windows that are indistinguishable from the original box sashes, but while providing modern thermal efficiency and enhanced security, made Ultimate Rose the obvious choice. Using modern technology, Ultimate Rose is completely seamless with traditional joinery style mechanical joints and the slimmest 35mm mid rail on the market. When installed adjacent to the homeowner’s original windows it was almost impossible to see a difference. The home was finished with a single vertical astragal bar to match the home’s existing sightlines and allow for maximum natural light. Additionally, run through horns and a wood grain texture was added for a fully authentic finish. The result is truly indistinguishable, and the homeowners now have traditional and modern performing sash windows that will last for years to come. The owners are now planning to replace the timber windows on the ground floor with Ultimate Rose as well.
