In an ongoing commitment to prioritize the well-being and independence of individuals in supervised housing, FAEMA Mental Health sought innovative solutions to address the challenges faced by residents during their daily routines. Among these challenges was the task of drying off after showering, which posed safety concerns and hindered autonomy for many residents. This collaboration aimed to transform the drying experience, ensuring not only safety but also comfort and empowerment for residents.CHALLENGEFAEMA Mental Health, an association dedicated to the well-being and autonomy of its residents in supervised housing, faced a recurring challenge: safety and autonomy during the drying process after showering. Many residents, due to their health condition, experienced difficulties using traditional towels, raising concerns about safety and quality of life in these environments.SOLUTIONIn response to this concern, FAEMA reached out to Valiryo Technologies in search of an effective and safe solution. The installation of Valiryo body dryer was presented as the ideal solution to address these challenges. Valiryo not only offers efficient drying but also minimizes the risk of falls and injuries by eliminating the need for unnatural movements associated with towel use. Additionally, its innovative design and ease of use make it an accessible option for all residents, regardless of their mobility or physical abilities.RESULTSThe implementation of Valiryo in FAEMA's supervised housing has yielded positive and tangible results. Residents now experience a greater sense of safety and autonomy during the drying process, contributing to their overall well-being. The Gym Group required external street-level access for the Monument location in London, and the Aritco 7000XT from our commercial range was ideal. External installation also saved valuable space internally for the group, vital in a city or restricted location where space is at a premium. Additional weatherproof finishes, canopies and heating/ventilation systems keep the lift in great condition in any weather. Providing the lift with restricted access using a key locking system also allowed them to lock the lift out of hours to prevent any misuse or unattended access.

Over 50 Howe Green 7500 Series access covers were made to order for one of London’s popular tourist attractions - The Cutty Sark, as part of an extensive refurbishment project. The aluminium covers were manufactured with bespoke Z-section supports to provide a safe, reliable route to essential ventilation ducting used to keep air circulating in what is effectively a large void under the historic clipper. The covers were fitted into raised flooring within the new museum facility. The 7500 Series are designed to withstand high levels of pedestrian traffic.

Henderson’s sliding door hardware systems were specified by Penton Architects for the central dining space and garage of the architects’ own rural new build. Adam Penton commented: “The large sliding doors to the central dining space utilise P C Henderson’s Lift and Slide Base System which was specified for its performance and ability to be housed into a bespoke glazed timber screen and cill system.” The dining room doors open up the side of the house and are used daily during the summer months for ventilation and access to external terracing to create an indoor / outdoor experience.

Designed By Redbox the architects wanted a light and spacious building without the need for a heavy support system. The glass and limestone mix imparts this vision perfectly. Completed in 2016 The Aztec system was installed by Metcalf Roofing & Building.

The contractor was installing a jacuzzi for a client. The jacuzzi’s filter requires regular cleaning which means lifting a slab to gain access to the area. The best solution for the slabs around the jacuzzi was to elevate them without fixings over the very high void. 915-1020mm Megapads were chosen. Megapads were positioned around the perimeter. Slabs were then laid on top, covering the area whilst allowing access to the filter and giving ventilation to the mechanics. With a weight tolerance of 1,560Kg and temperature resistant to Minus 40°C, Megapads were the perfect solution.

A landmark in the regeneration of Spitalfields,The Steward Building is situated within the historically and architecturally interesting Artillery Passage Conservation Area.The site required the highest quality stainless steel louvre as a street front cladding, providing ventilation and visual screening, on two elevations of a prime office development.The design, which was developed by Lang+Fulton, featured recessed supports for the panels and incorporated a sliding door with concealed gate hardware to achieve a seamless aesthetic.The louvred panels were made from DeltaBox/SS-90 a pressure locked stainless steel product.

The new Vista apartments occupy an enviable location, close to Chelsea Bridge and overlooking Battersea Park. As a high-end residential project, the landscaping was given a high priority.Lang+Fulton were approached by the architects to propose a suitable stainless steel grating for pedestrian use, which would ventilate the underground car park. A grating with a heel proof mesh of 55x11mm was recommended and was designed with support beams and anchor bolts. The stainless steel was pickled and polished. In addition, 31m2 of galvanized mild steel grating with 66x33mm mesh was supplied for an area which was inaccessible to the public.

As part of the refurbishment of this 1970’s building, Bolton Gate were specified to provide a hybrid grille / shutter to the loading bay. In addition to providing vehicular entry / egress with the requisite ventilation for such an application, matching side panels were required with integral hinged doors to allow personnel access and provide emergency exits. The grille / shutter was provided with a special bottom rail and operates via a keypad outside, loop detectors inside and photocells / safety edge to meet H&S requirements. The whole assembly was powder coated brown in keeping with the surrounding structure.

Fit Fresh needed a flooring system that could withstand the demands in its busy processing facility, such as regular forklift traffic and cold rooms kept at temperatures of around 5ºC.

This multi award winning seafront park was inspired by the meeting of coastal processes and the interventions used to control them and celebrates the fascinating heritage of Rhyl in the form of a ‘beachcombing’ artwork experience.

The objective for this project at Bristol Airport was to decrease the processing times to get the passengers into the airside lounges, whilst preventing passenger stress and allowing passengers more time in duty free.

Twice the height of any other building in Cyprus, the ONE Tower commands the skyline of Limassol. Sitting on the palm tree lined seafront close to both the city’s bustling business district and its quaint old town, the new development offers 83 luxurious residences, leisure and commercial opportunities set across 37 floors. After working with our products and our Cypriot distribution partner DPS for a number of years, facade contractors Glassline specified a combination of open state Siderise cavity barriers and cassette inserts. The RV vertical and RH horizontal cavity barriers are designed to allow the facade system to maintain airflow and drain away any moisture within its construction but, in the event of a fire, rapidly close the ventilation gap to create an effective hot smoke and fire seal. Both products achieve Class A1 to EN 13501-1 and provide 120 minutes fire integrity. The barriers are complemented with the use of OSCI Cassette Inserts which are Class A2 rated. All these products have undergone rigorous third party testing to ensure dependable performance. These include single product tests and testing as part of a large-scale system, such as BS 8414 (1&2) and NFPA 285, demonstrating their performance within a complex, high-rise cladding system such as that used on the ONE Tower. For more detail about the standards the products meet, please visit the individual technical data pages. In addition to providing straightforward passive fire protection, the stonewall lamella core of the RVG vertical cavity barriers allows them to accommodate the natural movement associated with rainscreen facades. This is especially important on this exposed seafront project. It is also for this reason that the cavity barrier brackets were specified in robust galvanised steel, protecting them from corrosion caused by the sea air.InstallationAll Siderise products are designed to be easily installed— a key benefit on this large-scale project, enabling it to be finished to a high standard without compromising the project timeline. The RV vertical barriers and then the RH horizontal barriers were cut to the correct size and installed by Glassline using Siderise galvanised steel brackets and foil tape. Where the two products met, they were simply tightly abutted, and the joints sealed with foil tape to ensure continuity of intumescence and therefore fire protection. The OSCI cassette inserts were then fitted as part of the cladding system, installed directly behind the cassette panels and in parallel and centrally aligned to the RVG and RH cavity barriers. This helped to simplify detailing and ensure the ventilation gap met the project requirements. Technical support and site services were provided by our partner DPS throughout the design and installation process, in-keeping with the Siderise ethos of standing by the side of our customers to deliver optimum results.Final CommentsCreated in collaboration with a number of renowned international and local firms and suppliers, ONE Limassol Tower not only stands as a symbol of the city’s exciting future, but also of what can be achieved when diverse skills, expertise and vision are brought together. 400m2 of weberwall brick in Antique Red Multi was applied to 9 new homes in Guildford. 3x faster than brick slips, weberwall brick accelerated the building process for the developer.

PROJECT OVERVIEWOrthoplastics is a global leader in the development and manufacture of orthopaedic implants and components, helping surgeons transform lives around the world. This project, the first phase of a fit out programme for a new facility in Bacup, Lancashire, involved the delivery a new cGMP advanced manufacturing area for the production of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) sheets used in the manufacture of orthopaedic implants. The requirement was for a production area that can provide a controlled environment, isolated from the rest of the floorplate, during processing periods, while enabling access by a remote controlled mobile crane to remove the completed UHMWPE sheets when the equipment is non-operational.PROJECT SPECThe new Orthoplastics building is a single storey facility and the size and weight of the UHMWPE equipment required excavation of additional space below ground to accommodate both the machine and the building services required to process materials at up to 2400C. The 1000m2 processing area needs to be a cleanable cGMP compliant environment to avoid the risk of contaminants in materials that will be used in orthopaedic surgery. The partitioning for the perimeter is 11m tall and connected to the ceiling of the existing building shell. To provide the structural stability required for such tall walls, the standard Norwood 100mm Mediline partition thickness has been increased to 200mm. The project also included rapid rise doors for access by the remote control crane that removes the large UHMWPE sheets following the process. The fully demountable double skin bi-panel system enabled a fast and robust installation enabling the project to get back on track quickly following interruption by the pandemic. The panels were prefabricated in-house by Norwood, enabling a fast-track installation programme.Norwood was also designed, manufactured and installed a range of their single and double steel doors in blue.

Our latest installation of colourful planters has breathed new life into this thriving area, illuminating it with a burst of vibrant hues and the refreshing touch of nature. In collaboration with Landscape Architects Macgregor Smith and funded by the Crown Estate, this project has revitalised Heddon Street, creating an enchanting and captivating atmosphere for all to enjoy.FABRICATION AND DELIVERY OF CUSTOM PLANTERS The planters were fabricated, painted and filled with soil in our workshop in Sevenoaks. To minimise disruptions to the busy area, the planters were delivered to the site using a Hiab, a method chosen specifically for its efficiency and convenience. This careful logistical planning ensured a smooth installation process and minimised any disturbances to the street's vibrant atmosphere.PLANTING SELECTION AND SEASONAL VARIATIONSThe selection of plants was carefully curated to complement the vibrancy of the planters and create a captivating display throughout the seasons. Bright and blooming flowers were chosen to enhance the visual appeal during the summer months, infusing the street with an array of colours that delight the senses. Ninety UDF-50 REM Bilco Natural Smoke and Heat Ventilators (NSHEVs) were installed in a large scale accommodation development at the University of Hertfordshire. The development at the College Lane Campus comprises a mixture of individual bedrooms, twin rooms and studios. All of Bilco’s NSHEV products are manufactured to the highest possible standards, are CE Marked and meet Construction Products Regulation 305/2011. At 1500mm x 1620mm Bilco’s double leaf UDF-50 REM Smoke Vents offer a 1.5m2 clear vent area – making them ideal for dwellings of multiple occupancy such as halls of residence.

A range of CS louvre solutions were selected for the Met Office HQ in Exeter to ensure efficient airflow and protection from wind-driven rain ingress. The RSH-5700 louvre delivering Class A rain defence up to 3.0m/s was installed in the sloping façade of the main building. This model is available with an optional glazing frame detail for easy integration into curtain walling. For the IT building, where airflow delivery was a key specification factor, the A-3105C ventilation louvre offering continuous blade appearance and hidden mullions was selected. This product offers Class 1 airflow performance and low pressure drop.

Over 60 of Howe Green’s 7500 Series floor access covers were chosen for the development of a sizable extension of King’s Cross tube station. An access solution was required to provide access to essential under floor services including ventilation ducting, electrics, communication cables and rail services. The specification required a solution that would prevent the passage of fire through service channels. Howe Green’s 7500 Series access covers met requirements with a three hour fire rating. In addition to single covers, Howe Green’s innovative multi-part covers were also used.

A triplex of customised Stannah lifts are delivering vital office access and goods movement in the Record Store, an Art Deco, former record-pressing factory and part of the £250m regeneration of The Old Vinyl Factory, erstwhile home of record label EMI, in West London. The triplex operates in wall-mounted shafts in the spacious lift lobby, an integral part of the compact, central core. Their design supports an efficient blueprint, also minimising the structural impact on the building. This core also doubles as a fire-fighting shaft, comprising a firefighting stair, mechanically ventilated firefighting lobby and a firefighting lift.

The aim of £12M refurbishment and remodelling of the 1960s Octagon theatre in Bolton was to make the building fully accessible, improve acoustics and provide new facilities for community use, upgraded performance areas and new front of house and back stage amenities. The design from JM Architects includes a 5-storey rear extension and an impressive modern new façade created using Senior’s thermally efficient SF52 curtain walling. This has been seamlessly integrated with SPW501 aluminium commercial doors for the new high traffic entrance and foyer, together with SPW600e aluminium windows for added daylight and ventilation.

Surespan supplied a number of circular dome rooflights with triple layers to The Key, situated in the new Science Central development at Newcastle University. These large 1500 (49”) and 2000 (79”) diameter polycarbonate domes feature triple layers providing a U-value of 1.8 W/m²K. The rooflights were supplied with electric opening actuators to allow ventilation to control the temperature of the fabric structure. Surespan Dome skylights were specified due to their high sustainability and small impact on the environment. The triple layers ensure compliance with energy-saving requirements and offer excellent air tightness.

Metal pipe boxing from the Pendock Profiles range is concealing heating pipework, electrical cabling and ventilation ducting at Phoenix Point in Thamesmead as part of a refurbishment and upgrade programme of homes at the striking, cylindrical high rise building.Originally built in 2008 on the site of a boiler house used for a community heating scheme, the 8 storey, circular building provides a mix of one and 2 bedroom flats. The Pendock aluminium boxing is used extensively in the refurbishment and is located below the walkway on each tier, following the form of the structure to conceal building services, as well as acting as a mounting point for lighting.

We visited David and his family in Essex, UK, who recently completed a rear kitchen and dining extension that began in June 2021 and was completed in October.   One of their main goals was to include natural light and ventilation in the design by using opening rooflights.  Tell us more about your home and why you decided to renovate. The family fell in love with the house because at the time they thought it had all of the space they needed.  'It was really obvious when we first moved into the house that we didn't have a joint space where all of us could be together, cooking and eating, playing or watching TV. That's when we said; 'okay, we need to do this project.' Before the family completed the renovation, a lot of their time was spent in individual rooms. Therefore, they made a decision to create a joined-together family space, they felt essential for creating memories and bonding with one another.  'We wanted to make sure we had a rooflight over the kitchen to create light in that space and make sure we had enough light to the existing part of the house.'  Adding a rooflight to your kitchen can be a great way to bring in more natural light and improve the overall ambiance of your home. After decades of fundraising, Spitalfields Christ Church was restored to its pre-1850 condition, working from the original building documents where possible, a process that stretched over more than 25 years.

Charlotte and her family have always enjoyed living in their Edwardian terraced home in Wimbledon, although after spending lockdown with their two young daughters, they realised they needed more indoor space. The couple decided to complete a rear extension to create more space. Built using H+H Celcon Blocks the extension has made the house noticeably warmer and improved the sound insulation.The finished extension houses the kitchen and dining area, as well as a large corner sofa. Charlotte notes, “I’m actually pursuing a career in interior design, so I worked closely with Westminster Building Company to ensure the space is both warm and inviting. My partner and I love cooking and dining in there now, and our kids certainly enjoy the extra space.”“H+H is a big name, so I didn’t give it a second thought when using their Celcon Blocks. I knew I was buying good quality building materials that are light to handle and easy to use.” “Technically speaking this was a job that required some forethought, as the homeowner wanted the extension to be future proofed for building up a storey. Also, one of the next door neighbours was planning for a rear extension to their home. “This meant that we built a 300mm wall with two layers of 100mm Celcon Standard Blocks (3.6N/MM2) with a 100mm cavity wall insulation and used Celcon Block High Strength Grade (7.3N/mm2) on the inner skin. This was both to facilitate future upward building and to ensure that the neighbours plans weren’t mitigated.” Will Clark, Director, Westminster Building Company.The floor to the extension was created using an Insulated Beam & Block construction, using Celcon Block Standard Grade 100mm blocks. 

To provide optimum weather and thermal performance and to maximise the building’s energy efficiency, ADP Architecture specified a range of aluminium products from Kawneer, installed by approved specialist subcontractor Norman & Underwood. The building’s façade features Kawneer’s AA®100 curtain wall system while AA®190 TB severe-duty doors were specified to handle the high volume of people entering and leaving the building. These were complemented by Kawneer’s AA®720 casement windows with louvreshields which provide both ventilation and fall protection. As the construction is a gateway to the city’s commercial area, the aesthetics were also paramount.

At Mayfield Place in Winkfield, Bloor had planned and designed seven five-bedroomed luxury houses. Whitesales were asked to provide sleek, minimalist rooflights which would complement the homes’ design. em.glaze modular ridgelights are modular rooflights available in standard sizes from stock, with a choice of glazing and ventilation options.
