OverviewA well-known holiday park in Skegness’ existing swimming pool air handling unit had been on site for less than 20 years and they were being faced with numerous repair bills, excessive noise and high running costs.  Residential neighbours were complaining about excessive noise and, as providing a peaceful environment is a top priority, they sought to upgrade their existing pool heating and ventilation system.A competitor’s air handling unit had been specified by a third party, however after conducting thorough research themselves, the client prioritised finding the best product on the market to provide service, reliability and lower running costs and chose Recotherm to provide a solution that met their requirements. ChallengesAccess was only available through standard double doors and the sizable unit was sited high in the building structure on a mezzanine floor. We proposed our CVME 1000 unit, the CVME range of units are known for their efficiency, reliability and providing the best atmosphere for pool hall users. Project Cambridge, ARM Peterhouse Multi-Storey Car Park, United KingdomHuber, the name behind the UK’s most innovative car park designs, turned to Petrarch, our innovative reconstituted stone rainsceeen facade, to realise its new vision for Peterhouse multi-storey car park. The background‘HUBER was commissioned to erect this new multi-storey car park at 110 Fulbourne Road, in Peterhouse Technologies Park, Cambridge - part of the ARM Headquarters estate. With a total of 501 parking bays the facility eases the parking situation at the commercial estate.‘The façades of the structure are clad in Petrarch reconstituted stone rainscreen panels. These are reconstituted stone panels to render a visually stunning façade solution which simulates the colour and texture of natural stone.’ Huber Car ParksSales Director, Tom Walker, who had this to say about the project.‘I was really pleased to see our Petrarch reconstituted stone facade installed to a fantastically high standard, across both the original phase, some 5 years ago and the more recent extension, creating a seamless link between the two parts of the project. The spectacular design of the façade coupled with this high-quality installation has delivered a beautiful example of Petrarch applied in two very different yet equally stunning styles, expressing the characteristics of natural stone.’In terms of both the product and service Huber has commended the APS package and very succinctly yet precisely asserted! ‘Fantastic product and fantastic customer service.’Given that the second phase features new material, the client was super-impressed with how the old and new blend so well. Given the natural ageing qualities of Petrarch (emulating weathered stone), it makes it ideal in such instances.

FENCING TO CALM PATIENTS IN MHU

FENCING TO CALM PATIENTS IN MHU

Zaun Limited

For secure mental health units, the safeguarding of both their patients and the general public is paramount. Therefore, it is imperative that patients cannot leave the hospital grounds to ensure that they cannot threaten anyone or themselves. Therefore, secure, sturdy and reliable fencing is a necessity. However, to promote relaxation and recovery for anxious and agitated patients, it is necessary to maximise the capability of this fencing to ensure that it is restful rather than solely restrictive. So, how is it possible to ensure that high-security fencing can also be calming to patients?Secure Mental Health UnitsSecure mental health units in the UK require a high level of security because they often house people who have been previously incarcerated or those who have been admitted to the hospital after committing a crime. In addition, they deliver care to patients who may pose a risk to the general public and try to help their patients recover by offering accommodation, treatment and support.Patients in secure hospitals are not allowed to leave and cannot escape if they pose a danger to themselves or others. Therefore, the security is always extremely stringent inside and outside each unit. What are the Requirments of Secure Units?Security and safety of patients is a priority for NHS mental health units. A mental health unit is not a prison; it is a hospital where patients are cared for and nursed back to recovery with treatment and support. Patients mustn’t feel like they have been locked up, and the environment needs to be calming so that patients can enjoy the restful environment conducive to their recovery. However, it is also essential that patients not come and go because the unit delivers high-level security on a secure mental health unit. Therefore, any perimeter fencing must be extremely secure to keep the patients from leaving the hospital, and patients must also not be able to break down or scale the fencing. Therefore a duality must be created where a prison-like environment exists without the hospital being perceived as a prison by the patients on the unit. The SolutionZaun HiSec Prison fencing is used as a solution to all the requirements of secure mental health units. Every panel of the HiSec 358 close mesh fencing is specifically designed to ensure the safety and security of patients within the unit.In addition to the 358 mesh, the fencing features 1.5mm solid steel sheets, pre-galvanised, powder coated and printed with an image. This provides privacy to the patients inside while maintaining a high-security level. These sheets are then fixed to the fencing with a clamp bar on the post and clamped with an additional clamp bar mid bar to maximise their durability and sturdiness. To achieve tailored and bespoke results, sheets are pre-cut to size before arriving on-site, ready for installation. One of the most important facets of the fencing is the printed image on the front of the sheets. These images, often created by local artists, are created to calm the patients on the mental health unit, making them feel less anxious and improving their positivity. Therefore, they tend to depict calming imagery, such as lush flowers or relaxing scenery. This printed fencing has the dual outcome of keeping patients safe and secure inside the secure mental health unit and giving them restful images to views, such as vibrant yellow sunflowers and the glint of sunlight through woodland. In addition, viewing nature scenes has the benefit of positively improving mental health.

Innovative Swimming Pool Ventilation Solution for Prestigious Residential Property in Belgravia, London

Recotherm Ltd

OverviewRecotherm were instructed by Pool Court Ltd, a renowned UK pool construction company, to design a bespoke air handling unit for a unique project at a prestigious residential property located in Belgravia, London. ChallengesThere were various design challenges to overcome on this project: The unit needed to be installed in the basement with limited access The swimming pool area featured a rising floor, allowing for flexible use of the space The client desired a ventilation solution capable of handling a substantial cooling load to maintain a comfortable environment during eventsThe property was subject to strict local planning regulations prohibiting the use of exterior condensing units normally needed for cooling SolutionRecotherm developed a one-of-a-kind swimming pool ventilation unit.  Integrating the condensing element of the refrigeration process into the unit we overcame the local authority's restriction whilst also providing efficient and effective ventilation that could adapt to changing floor configurations. The basement access was overcome by utilising our flat pack process and building the unit within the plant room. The unit included three fans to ensure the system could operate on full fresh air even when the condenser was running at full speed. This design guaranteed efficient cooling while maintaining optimal air quality during crowded events.  Engineered to prioritise the use of fresh air cooling whenever possible, the unit utilises the extra power required by the refrigeration circuit only when necessary. This approach maximises energy efficiency and reduces overall power consumption. This bespoke solution demonstrates a commitment to delivering customised, intelligent solutions that ensure exceptional performance, energy efficiency, and enhanced comfort for Pool Court’s valued client.  Recotherm delivered:Engineering expertiseBespoke designEasy installation with flat pack componentsCertified installersEnergy efficiency
