The Maternity and Paediatric Hospital Gregorio Maranon in Madrid cares for patients suffering from cancer. The hospital is respected for its highly-qualified specialists. Children are usually treated in hospital over a longer period. To help them feel at ease, the Juegaterapia foundation has given the Paediatric Oncology department two "space stations" from the company PlayOffice.

The Harbour is a new state-of-the-art 154 bed mental health facility near Blackpool. Its ethos is to provide therapeutic care which is empowering, person centred and needs led and focusses on promoting recovery and independence. With that in mind and following a safety by design practice the Trust wanted to commission products that would provide ultimate patient safety and comfort.

Situated by the iconic Clydebank crane, the Clydebank Health Centre is improving primary care services in the area and forming the central base for community health teams. Residents can access GP practices, podiatry and physiotherapy services plus consulting and treatment rooms. The new facility is described as forming a ‘centre point’ within the Queen’s Quay regeneration area.

The refurbishment of the dementia ward at Leighton Hospital in Crewe to deliver a softer, friendlier, more relaxed and less clinical looking environment that patients will be able to move around more easily. Axis was asked to supply and install doors to four bed bays, in different colours and with contrasting-coloured handles, to support the care and therapy the hospital gives dementia patients.

Vtec's MaxiBeam System was specified in this premium residential development in Edinburgh. We worked closely with the designers to create a MaxiBeam system in a beautiful oak veneer that created impact in the staggered beam design. The light colour works well with the dark walls. Our Technical team took care of all the details to make this a breeze for first-time installers.

THE PROJECTRoché were asked with helping refurbish the Critical Care Unit at Aintree University Hospital by providing a suitable shading solution for their critically ill patients who rarely get chance to leave the ward. The project was part of a £35 million development and marked the completion of the project.THE CHALLENGEThe key design concern for the awnings was ease of use as well as keeping the area aesthetically pleasing for patients and visitors.THE SOLUTIONThe Markilux Syncra Uno Flex freestanding awning frame was installed outside the Trust’s Critical Care Unit. This particular solution is used in cases where fixing options are limited with boxes at the base to stabilise the frame. Larger bases were specially designed to create weighted flower boxes for a unique outdoor effect. The Markilux 6000 full cassette awning was then secured onto the frame keeping the fabric completely enclosed when retracted. Grey fabric was chosen to suit the modern aesthetic of the building with the added benefit of UV protection and water resistance.

After years of neglect, Millwater Cottage was in desperate need of some care and attention. Built in around 1752, this pretty Georgian mill house sits in a beautiful location next to a river, mill pond and old mill. Flanked by listed properties and sitting firmly within a conservation area, renovation works had to be sensitive both to the property and the area’s heritage.

Artist and developer Tom Yendell’s new concept in holiday accommodation, Flat Spaces, has been specially designed to take the worry out of travel for disabled visitors. In creating his new holiday homes which place as much emphasis on accessibility as well as aesthetics, he turned to Pressalit Care for their help in providing the wow factor in the kitchen and bathrooms.

A complete wall protection package from Gradus has been installed at the 3Ts development (Trauma, Teaching and Tertiary care) for the Royal Sussex County Hospital. The project, planned in three stages, comprises of the replacement of the buildings to the front half of the Royal Sussex County Hospital. In their place will be two brand new clinical buildings and a much-needed service and logistics yard.

Dynamic interior spaces created for flagship care homeIssueQuantum Care were launching their flagship care home, Mantles Court, and wanted an interior design that created a warm, welcoming and comfortable space. They asked WHAT IF? Designs to create the interior fit out with a non-clinical feel, making the state of the art, 78-bed care facility feel like a home-from-home for residents.ApproachWHAT IF? Designs looked at the flow of resident living spaces and the needs for each area. Communal spaces including lounges, dining and kitchen areas needed floors that were easy to clean, look fantastic and provide safety from slips. The Ambient Assisted Living Lab (AAL) within Heriot-Watt University and the University of Edinburgh’s acclaimed National Robotarium, aims to revolutionise the way assisted living care in the UK is delivered in the community using robotics and AI. With its purpose-built facilities within a recreated home setting, scientists, and engineers within the AAL will collaboratively research and create robotic and smart technology solutions in its open and remote access living lab, helping improve the physical and mental wellbeing of people with assisted living needs who want to live independently.Sharing this ethos of improving people’s wellbeing through design, Pressalit has been leading the way in assisted living technologies for the bathroom and kitchen for almost fifty years. The prestigious development is made up of 82 one and two bedroomed apartments, designed for over 55s. The apartments are finished to a high standard and are available on a rental or shared ownership basis, with extra care assistance available for those who need it. .

In just 107 record-breaking days the Lakeside Wing of the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) was ready to receive patients, and now fully operational can accommodate up to 400 beds, offering a multi-disciplinary model of care with staff including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, pharmacists, healthcare support workers and nurses, all working in the contemporary three-storey facility.

The children’s’ clinic at the University Hospital of Erlangen treats pre-mature and newborn babies, children and teens of all ages. To ensure optimal care, depending on the medical condition and age, it has various departments and clinics staffed by experienced paediatricians, equipped with modern diagnostic and therapeutic tools and techniques. They work closely with highly qualified nurses, physiotherapists and educators for the health of its young patients.

Artform Urban Furniture was appointed by Robertson Construction to provide a complete range of street furniture elements including seating, planters, cycle parking, and bollards to the external space of a newly built Care Centre and Library in the historic market town of Belper. We offered extensive assistance throughout the project including attendance at design meetings looking at materiality, cost, and installation demands which changed a number of times throughout the project.Although largely a new build, the existing façades of a former Thornton’s Factory have been retained, refurbished, and carefully incorporated into the scheme maintaining considerations of the UNESCO World Heritage Site status of the area.Artforms' premium selection of street furniture perpetuates the careful consideration for the site heritage as well as offering an inviting space for the public and residents of the home. As well as providing space for socialising and natural splashes of colour with plants, the concrete seating and planters echo the light stone of the new section of the development.The inclusion of Moka Bollards and Cubes in Corten provides elegant seating and pedestrian safety whilst coordinating with the restored red-bricked factory façades. The Corten products were supplied with a unique seal coating that significantly reduces the risk of any leaching - ensuring the surrounding paving maintains its clean light colour.The symmetry in the positioning and layout of these elements creates an inviting space leading to the building’s entrance.Finally, a shelter and a number of cycle stands have been provided to ensure people traveling to the space on bikes have secure parking spaces. The new Ada Belfield Centre & Belper Library was previously an unused and derelict building, now it is a space to offer high-quality care that is connected to the local community. Events can now take place bringing residents and members of the public together by utilising the new external space as well as the Library, which also features a café.

built home in Surbiton is the latest of the charity’s new caredevelopments, providing 24 hour nursing care within ahomelike environment. Originally a home for injuried WW1veterans to return to, the charity now provides long and shortterm care for ex-service people and their close family. Thehome is specially equipped with 63 en-suite rooms and adedicated dementia area, with 26 rooms for residents whorequire specialist support.Royal Star & Garter’s aim was to make sure that every roomwas specially equipped to suit the individual resident’s needs.Therefore, the access control solution had to reflect thisethos. With this in mind, Allgood Tio supplied and installedan advanced access control package, containing proximityreaders, proximity lever handle sets, safety sensors andautomatic door operators.Allgood Trio worked with Scurr & Partners Architects toprovide a low key, yet highly secure access control package,that allows staff to control the access given to residents,without causing any disturbance or confusion. This met RoyalStar & Garter’s idealogy of having a secure building, whilstmaintaining it’s homelike and comfy atmosphere.Royal Star & Garter’s dedicated dementia area required anaccess control package that kept within the main interiortheme, that used contrasting colours to help residentsnavigate their way round the building. Allgood Trio wereespecially asked to provide a practical and aestheticallypleasing lever handle set, that would suit this contrast,whilst maintaining it’s homelike atmosphere. Taking this intoconsideration, we supplied our Salto lever handle set with41020 FSB lever handles; combining Salto’s efficient softwarealongside FSB’s ergonomic lever handles, in a polished brassfinish.

A brand new hospital in Middlesex will deliver efficient and much improved care to it’s patients. The hospital includes new wards, an extension on one of its existing wings as well as the relocation of its existing energy centre. With so much investment in the new hospital including state-of-the-art equipment, the roof design needed to be robust, provide security and require minimal maintenance throughout its lifetime.

At Heathrow Primary School, their mission is to provide a safe, happy, caring and inclusive environment.The Kids Stuff cubicle range was specified in High Pressure Laminate (HPL). It was important that the chosen washroom design was safe, reliable and easy to maintain for the staff. To continue the high-quality care Sheffield Children’s Hospital provides, the Trust began a lengthy modernisation process in 2014. It involved the refurbishment and rebuilding of part of the existing hospital as well as the development of an entirely new building.At the heart of this modernisation process was the desire to seamlessly balance safety with homeliness, creating a non-institutional environment for children of all ages. Naturally, the Trust chose to install our integral finger guards (Alumax).

FF&E fitout for £60m medium-secure mental health unit at Northgate.As part of the £72.6m CEDAR (Care Environment Development and Re-provision) upgrade programme), Northgate will facilitate the best mental health provision for patients in the region. It will serve as a catalyst to allow all secure services across Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) to come together into a single, integrated centre of excellence.

Several disciplines are going to be joining forces under one roof in the future university centre for dentistry (UZB) in Basel. A centre of dentistry competence ranging from basic care to research and teaching is being built. Every year, dentists, dental and preventive care assistants and dental hygienists will be administering more than 80,000 treatments in the 5-storey building.The staircases were a key area of focus on this project, both for architectural reasons and in light of the strict sound insulation requirements. All staircases and landings have a bare architectural concrete finish. Compliance with the requirement of an impact sound level delta ΔLn,w* of 28 dB was mandatory in order to protect the quiet areas (e.g. treatment rooms, lecture halls, library, etc.) from distracting noise.Products from the Schöck Tronsole® range have been implemented for acoustic insulation. These impact sound insulation products enable a structural connection of the staircases and landings with no acoustic bridges whatsoever. Correct planning and installation of Schöck Tronsole® in a system results in a blue line visible at the treated areas. It is the mark of quality for reliable impact sound insulation and acoustic bridge-free installation.

Glenfield in Leicester is one of the UK’s leading hospitals for coronary care and respiratory diseases. The hospital’s Vascular Services Department has been redeveloped to provide additional patient accommodation and services including a new Angiography Treatment Suite with a technically advanced Hybrid Theatre. 2,000m² Rockfon® MediCare® ceilings were installed throughout to meet the demanding specification requirements which included acoustic control, fire protection and hygiene.

As part of the Railway Upgrade Plan, Platform 1 at Stamford Station in Lincolnshire was recently refurbished. Careful consideration resulted in the use of Twinfix Multi-Link-Panels Non-Fragile to replace the old curved corrugated roofing of the canopy and the end result is more in keeping with the original age and design of this elegant Grade II listed building. Passengers and staff are now all benefiting from the high levels of natural light that floods the platform.

Twinfix walkways protect patients and visitors from the elements at the new Clatterbridge Centre in Liverpool A new hospital in the heart of Liverpool is part of a £162m investment in expanding and transforming cancer services across Cheshire and Merseyside. The 11-storey Clatterbridge Cancer Centre at Liverpool Hospital delivers highly-specialist care including pioneering immunotherapy and the most advanced forms of radiotherapy to the 2.4 million people in Cheshire and Merseyside, and those in surrounding areas.

Sowenna - the first of it's kind for Cornwall Partnership NHS FT - is a purpose-built child and adolescent mental health (CAMHS) unit, providing inpatient treatment for young people aged between 13 and 18 years. The project had huge local demand, with young people and their families previously having to travel out of county for vitally important care.Thoughtfully designed by Ryder Architecture, the unit focuses on non-institutional safety, wellbeing and recovery.

A host of Bostik subfloor preparation and adhesive products have been used for the installation of the floor coveringsat Wixams Retirement Village, a recently opened care community in Bedfordshire.Contractor Unite Flooring was appointed to install luxury vinyl tiles and carpeting throughout the apartments and communal areas of the complex, contributing to its pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. Unite then selected a range of products from Bostik, and benefitted from the company’s technical advice throughout the project.

Jeanne Davies, Interior Designer for L&M, was tasked with creating a homely atmosphere with the décor and layout which is more accustomed to a luxurious 5-star hotel. Comfort, warmth and care had to be at the cornerstone of her creative inspiration. Working with Architect Bryan Walker of Red Apple Design Jeanne had to carefully consider the interior design to ensure that the unique needs of each of the residents were met whilst also creating a stylish interior scheme.

The project took place across a 21 m2 double garage roof that required updating and maintenance work as it had simply been left to the elements and was no longer fit for purpose.  Rob Rough, Director of PPM Care Ltd stated Degaflex that he was “really pleased with the outcome and impressed with how easy it is to install Degaflex” he went on to add that he would have traditionally used GRP, however, he will be “using Degaflex going-forwards”.
