S&P UK was selected to supply a heat recovery unit that could fit through the small access point and meet the bespoke requirements of the building

By using Amron Welltec “wave” or “corrugated” profiled aluminium sheet on an interior wall something new and unexpected was injected into the kitchen space. To take this ‘jolt away from the norm’ still further the designers envisaged not shiny metal, but the appearance of weathered and rusted metal – an industrial ‘vibe’ perhaps hinting at determination and hard work.Powdertech Collections includes a range of finishes which replicate patination/rust on metal, giving a ‘Corten’ appearance but with no rusty residue which could mark clothing and other surfaces. The client chose ‘Firebox’ from the Evolution/Rust collection. This gives a very natural ‘rusted’ look with no two panels looking the same. Powdertech applied Firebox to 80 m2 of material which line the walls and over-counter area of the Campus Kitchen.BenefitsEvolution™ Rust finishes can be used internally and also externally. 111 The Strand, is an eight storey landmark office and retail building in central London. The property occupies a corner position on the Strand with a return frontage to Savoy Place. The majority of the 30,549 ft² office space is let to CVC Capital Partners.The iconic building is well-known for its contemporary appearance. The limestone façade with metal frames with curved bays of stone and glass, and a stone relief depicting the surrounding area truly stands out.With the recent acquisition of the long leasehold office building, the private equity firm CVC Advisors Ltd found it time for a complete refurbishment. The existing reception area and office floor 1 to 6 were stripped and upgraded to Category-B Standard. This is inclusive of new MEPH installations and a commercial kitchen fit out to service the meeting room suites and dining areas.Stravifloor Channel, a floating floor system using isolated steel channels with proprietary elastomeric pads, four layers of plywood, and a special damping layer was installed in the catering kitchen on the 5th floor of this fit-out project. The isolated steel batten system with enhanced stiffness was designed to minimise the transfer of impact noise to the office floors below.During the installation, an elastic Perimeter Strip was applied around the floors’ perimeter, to completely decouple it from the building structure.

Coopers FireMaster Concertina is a great way to offer compartmentation between areas like a kitchen and restaurant and able to divide up these two critical areas in a public building and act as a fire break. By installing the FireMaster Concertina meant it would provide the building with an approved, non-invasive means of fire protection that would satisfy the fire regulations as well as ensuring that the open plan design remained as intended. Compartmentation and Protected Means of Escape were required as part of the fire safety solutions.

Architect: Simon Whitehead Architects This extension and renovation to a detached house in South London has completely transformed the living space by creating open plan rooms filled with light thanks to the innovative use of windows and sliding doors. The centrepiece of the works was a single storey ground floor extension that extended the kitchen and usable living space, whilst connecting the house with the garden thanks to a corner opening set of IDSystems' Grand Slider II aluminium sliding doors and a large fixed frame picture window.

Architect: Harvey Norman Architects. Having returned home after years of working abroad the owners of this 1970s house chose to extend the property to make better use of the internal space and to breakdown the divide between the house and the garden. The design centred on a single storey pitched roof extension with large IDSystems' theEDGE2.0 sliding doors and fixed frame gable end glazing that transformed the layout of the home, creating a large open plan living space that included a kitchen, dining and lounge space.

A London family asked Somner MacDonald to help them reimagine the rear of their house for the next generation. In response, the team designed a new extension that connects seamlessly with the main body of the house and flows through to the garden, giving the family a unique kitchen and dining space.Both client and architect were familiar with Russwood flooring, having used it in their previous projects. In this instance, Somner Macdonald specified Pearl European Oak flooring in Prime grade, to complement the simple, calming and assured spaces created by their design. 

No kitchen is ever complete without the sink and tap, and on a high-end project such as The Atelier in London, it was important that the sinks, just as every area of the design, were of the highest specification. Hopkins Architects, who worked on the project on behalf of house builder Regal-London, chose the Abode R15 stainless steel sink to achieve the brief. With the manufacturer’s Althia designer brassware being the perfect match, this sink and tap pairing were supplied for use across all of the 43 boutique apartments in West Kensington.

A newly built student accommodation block in Liverpool features an attractive, colourful external finish, thanks to Cembrit’s Cembonit cladding boards.Plato House is a purpose built student development comprising 86 spacious student rooms complete with a kitchen, en-suite bathrooms and high speed Wi-Fi throughout. Supplied via Vivalda of Manchester, Pemberton-based cladding contractor, Bak Cladding Solutions installed approximately 1000m2 of Cembonit cladding in a combination of Tufa, Pearl and Sand colours.

The Wraptite external air barrier system from the A. Proctor Group has been chosen for its high performance airtight insulation for a new home for young people in Dundee, Scotland.The new £3m single-storey building will be a home for some of the most vulnerable young people in the city where they can grow up in a supportive and caring setting. The project design includes en-suite bedrooms, shared living space, dining, kitchen, and activities facilities, and accommodation for staff.

Canterbury Christ Church University decided to refurbish an existing student lounge to contemporise the space and create a fresh, modern and comfortable environment that would elevate the overall student experience.The plans for the new vibrant hub, which also houses the Student Union, included a variety of offices, meeting rooms, and social areas to enable students to deliver a range of activities, events, and services on campus. It also includes a games zone, communal kitchen, lounge area and event spaces to foster collaboration and socialisation.

Located on Curzon Street, LondonMetric has an office that really is a must-see! They wanted to further enhance the wellbeing of their employees, whilst focusing on the growing importance of improving their sustainability and efficiency. Manchester Museum, part of the University of Manchester, has recently undergone a partial renovation program that includes a mulit-faith prayer room. Wudu foot wash troughs were required to complete the necessary facilities.Architects, Wilson Mason were charged with designing and overseeing the works that were carried out by, contractor, Warden Construction. GEC Anderson were specified to provide two purpose made foot wash troughs in stainless steel. One single user and one two user trough were required and were included within a very confined space.The design of the troughs was completely bespoke and stainless steel was the material of choice. GEC Anderson were able to provide the solution that is both highly practical but also completely practical and durable. The ergonomic requirements were important and the flexibility of custom stainless steel allowed for the creation of the special troughs to suit the precisely prescribed design. Each trough includes its own, trapped, gully to promote rapid discharge of water.Founded in England in 1962, GEC Anderson has pioneered the development of made-to-measure stainless steel products. Our installers carried out all necessary remedial work to align the Teaching wall electrical access points to the wrongly positioned sockets on the dado trunking.After successful installation of the Teaching Walls, we were informed by Bridglea PRU that children had been climbing up the side of the Teaching Walls by suspending themselves between the Teaching Wall and the classroom wall–in an attempt to get on top of the Teaching Walls and climb inside the cabinets. Boyco supplied & installed bespoke infill boxes to the corner of the necessary Teaching Walls, to prevent pupils being able to gain any access to the roof of the Teaching Walls.

Merging two former churches in the Bolton area, the development of Harwood Methodist Church has delivered something special for the Church and the wider community. The challenge for the team at Ellis Williams Architects was to design spaces with a practical function but also ensuring that there is a link to tradition.Thanks to its exceptional performance in heavy traffic environments, Tessera Alignment carpet tiles in the Climate colourway was installed in the main worship area – which can hold up to 250 people. As the space also enables the latest AV technology and sound system to support the growing use of band music during regular worship, it is ideal that the carpet tiles can reduce up to 23 dB impact sound.A café space links directly into the worship area with a well-appointed community kitchen serving this and a large community hall. A range of safety flooring from the STEP range provided the ideal solution for these areas, where the Classic Oak effect provided a sophisticated finish in the café and Safestep R11 – for high-risk slip protection – was used in the kitchen. In addition, Surestep Original in Elephant offered a fresh alternative and improved cleaner aesthetic for the bathrooms.Finally, in the multi-use community hall, lobby, circulation spaces and flexible conference rooms, the subtle yet striking marble effect of Marmoleum Real in Slate Grey delivers a beautiful neutral backdrop for a range of functions and events.

The design brief for Suffolk St James’s focused on a comprehensive refurbishment to create CAT-A offices on the 1st to 4th floors, along with a striking reception on the ground floor. The lower ground space provides studio/gym, bike store, kitchen and a further CAT-A office. There is a large roof terrace on the 5th floor.The challenge on this project was to replace the existing single 10-person lift and create step-free access to all five floors, including the 2,000 sq ft roof terrace and lower ground floor level. 

Architect: Simon Gill Architects. The brief for this project in Putney was to modernise the ground floor of this red-brick detached house, create a larger dining room and better connect the inside of the home with the garden. The end result is a complete transformation. Gone are the compressed spaces and smaller rooms and in their place is a large open-plan living area with seamless connection between the lounge, kitchen and dining room. These open plan spaces are filled with natural light thanks to a combination of Grand Slider II sliding doors and huge fixed frame picture windows.

Getting by with little is architect Leonardo Di Chiara’s modus operandi. With his tiny house, the young Italian architect made a dream come true: he can travel across the country independently with his own four walls. His transportable home comprises just 9 square meters but includes all the necessities, even including some luxury in the form of a “rooftop terrace.” The founder of Tinyhouse University in Italy relied on the HAWA Concepta 25 pivot/slide-in hardware system for his kitchen doors.

Abode delivered a combined sink and tap offering to high-end house builder Berkeley Group, for its Edenbrook Village development in Hampshire. The challenge for Abode was to supply a complimentary sink and tap offering to work alongside the specified German contemporary kitchens from Leicht. Exceeding at the challenge, Abode took one of its stand-out designer taps, New Media in four finishes and coupled them with the extremely versatile R15 Matrix stainless steel one-and-a-half bowl sink, providing solutions that excelled in form and function.

This Jersey based financial management company worked with Axis Mason to create this modern, agile work environment. Milliken's Red Dot award-winning Colour Compositions plank carpet flows seamlessly through the space with transitioning pops of colour that zone the variety of working zones. Heritage Wood and Eero LVT offer a robust and practical solution for the walkways and kitchen area and co-ordinate beautifully with the carpet. Acoustics in the space are managed with the carpet's Comfort Lite cushion backing, absorbing 31dB of distracting noise.

This Norwegian property company's headquarters in a chic and contemporary office space. The circulation areas feature Milliken's bold Three Corners design from the Clerkenwell collection in shades of cream and brown. Tracing Landscape' Field Study SDN design is installed in the meeting spaces in deep, dark tones of Secret Caves. Both carpet products offer exceptional acoustic performance keeping this workplace calm and quiet. For the kitchen and bathroom areas Polished Concrete LVT provides a practical flooring solution with a raw urban feel.

Leeds City College, the third largest further education college in the UK, has opened a new city-centre campus to offer modern-day vocational study programmes. The campus is a £14 million new build extension and refurbishment of a Grade II listed building into a state-of-the-art specialist vocational centre with training kitchens, a commercial training restaurant, hair and beauty teaching facilities and commercial salons as well as a refectory, library and student services. Being a refurbishment project, the build had a number of challenges.

Calming and practical spaces created for neurodiverse residentsIssueA unique housing concept was created on the Foxcote housing development in Heald Green by Bloor Homes and Stockport MBC in partnership with MSV Housing Association and Lifeways care provider. The house was to provide fully adapted, independent living accommodation for young people with autism, learning difficulties and mental health issues.Built on land sold by the Seashell Trust, the house was designed as a single supported dwelling, providing living spaces for three young adults with neurodiverse needs.The home needed to convey a biophilic feeling of space and light, with muted tones and earthy colours.ApproachMSV Housing Association, Sara Darwin of Phi Architects and the parent of one of the young adults worked hand-in-hand to create a specification for the build that considered all requirements. This included a connected, welcoming, shared living, dining and kitchen space that could be separated as and when needed, individual homely bedrooms, a calm and soothing sensory room, safe and hygienic bathrooms and kitchen area – all of which were anti-pick, reduced transference of noise and provided ease of cleaning.SolutionIn the dining and kitchen area, Altro Wood Comfort in colour Aged Oak was specified bringing a biophilic feel into the open areas. PROJECTWith the UK market for high specification homes in desirable locations continuing to grow this year, Abode was the natural choice to supply the prestigious Limsi Grove Cala Homes development in Hertford. Designed to cater for the executive market, 41 exceptional 3,4 and 5 bedroomed detached family homes have been meticulously designed to complement a conservation area and provide the best in town and country living, offering modernity and low maintenance. With properties on the market at £834,950-£1,359,950, choosing the best suppliers was key.  PRODUCTSTwo styles of undermounted sinks from Abode’s classic R50 stainless steel range were selected for installation with solid surfaces for a premium look and feel in the kitchen (AW5015) and utility room (AW5014). The classic Matrix R50 under-mount stainless steel sink collection offers a range of 0.7mm thick 18/10 grade steel bowls that will suit every kitchen environment and budget. Other options include the AW5015 large single bowl, and LH or RH 1.5 bowl sinks. Flymesh and cast iron air bricks, up till now, Installers have either pushed the mesh into the back of the air brick from inside - never to be cleaned again - or meshed over the air brick and held it in place with silicon - never to be removed again. Which is why we invented the cast iron flyscreen airbrick with removable copper mesh. It solved a problem faced by Galliford Try, constructing the athletes village for London 2012 Olympics when they needed feature vents for kitchen extraction to enhance their clay bricked homes. At Yealmpton Primary to the East of Plymouth in South Devon all children are encouraged to be more active during break and lunch times with sports and fitness at the forefront of that focus. When the school implemented a refurbishment programme for their multi-use hall and kitchen servery area, they turned to international flooring specialist Gerflor to supply their world class Taraflex® Multi-Use vinyl sports flooring and their Tarasafe Ultra safety flooring. An Isolsport underlay was also supplied by Gerflor, enabling the installer to lay the Taraflex® Multi Use directly over the existing Granwood floor.

WMOR Architects completely redesigned the ground floor to include a flexible living area to open into the garden. Accoya was chosen as the ideal material for the extension because of it aesthetic appearance as well as its ability to provide better insulation than other materials. & the owners wanted to use the most sustainable material they could. The Accoya extension which houses the show piece kitchen will be left to weather naturally and match the pale grey flooring. This was specifically designed so that in the summer, when the sliding door completely opens, the interior & exterior space will merge seamlessly.

This ventilation system was key for this oak frame cottage in Herefordshire. After achieving an airtightness of 1.51, it was imperative to integrate ventilation to ensure the cottage was as energy-efficient and comfortable as possible.Partel consulted with Oakwrights to design a smart ventilation system that improved air quality and reduced energy costs. LUNOS e2 heat recovery ventilation units supplied by Partel were installed in all living spaces such as the living room, kitchen, and bedrooms. The versatile installation option, extremely compact fans, and highly energy-efficiency operation made them ideal for this residential project.

High performance sheet flooring from Polyflor was used to create a statement design floor in The Armoury Café and Kitchen at the Imperial War Museum Duxford in Cambridgeshire. Designed by London based SHH Architecture & Interior Design, this refurbished restaurant area at Britain’s largest aviation museum features a monochrome floor design which was created using 300 m² of Polyflor’s Classic Mystique PUR vinyl flooring. Installed by flooring contractors Key Floors, the Smokestone, Nocturne and Quartz shades form concentric circles that echo the Royal Air Force logo.

Parkeray’s new HQ at 24 King William Street is an open-plan office space, offering their employees a great space for collaborative working and client’s meetings. They were looking for a high-capacity under-counter system with a matching mixer tap to complement their stylish kitchen space, suitable for bottle filling as well. Parkeray went ahead with two of the Billi Quadra Sparkling Plus in Matte Black with matching drainage fonts, providing boiling and chilled filtered water and paddle mixer taps, dispensing hot and cold filtered water to the impressive new office space.

When Booking.com decided to move their offices to a prime location in Central London, they required a full fit-out. They appointed HLW International, who specified Billi Taps for their main kitchen area, and another tea-point within the office space. Booking.com opted for Billi Quadra Plus 15. With a drainage font in chrome and a gloss finish, the tap delivers instant boiling and chilled water from an XL lever tap at just a touch of a finger, and hot and ambient from a second sink mixer tap – all this from a single under counter boiler unit.
