Matching stone in Norfolk

Matching stone in Norfolk

Powdertech (Corby) Ltd

Project Overview:Reducing the visual impact of guttering systems on the design of buildings is always a challenge for designers and architects. One solution is to use these systems as an architectural feature in themselves. The Justice Court collection of retirement homes in Cromer is one such case. These beautiful red brick and stone buildings have an aluminium guttering system combining the gutter, fascia and eves functions together with fascia panels above and below the large bay windows. The design intention was that these aluminium elements should resemble the feature stone band running across the building and to become a design statement in their own right. A close match to the shade and texture of the stone was required, and a consistency of colour throughout to emphasise the clean lines of the guttering & fascia system. The SolutionPowdertech Corby's Landscape range is a collection of high performance polyester powder coatings with shades and textures reflecting those found in our natural surroundings. Powdertech worked with their client to find a close match to the stone on the building. The amount of material to be coated required two batches so it was essential to have absolute colour consistency between batches. The total area coated was approximately 250m2.On the finished building the guttering, soffit and fascia look as though they are made of stone, providing a most pleasing effect. At Powdertech we were delighted to demonstrate our expertise for colour and texture matching. The final result vindicates our passion for this aspect of our work.BenefitsThe Landscape collection of powder coatings bring the warmth and texture of natural elements to the technical benefits of an architectural systems. There are currently eight Landscape ranges with over 40 shades. Customised shades can also be made. Landscape provides an ideal solution where the design calls for a highly specific colour tone to blend or complement natural surroundings.

The award winning Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice currently supports over 160 children who are seriously unwell, 230 of their siblings and 350 of their parents/guardians by providing holistic, bespoke care. To facilitate the care of even more children and their families and care givers, a new building was needed. Edge Lane Liverpool

Edge Lane Liverpool

Marshalls plc

Major work has been carried out by the Derwent Group on the Liverpool Edge Lane Retail Park. This regeneration work was something quite different to the other schemes in the city, with its vibrant mix of retailers, aspirational food and beverage brands and leisure operators as well as free parking for 1500 cars and great transport links. As part of the major regeneration project a new B&Q store relocated to the new retail park with an enlarged store including new kitchen and bathroom showrooms, aiming to give its customers an upgraded shopping experience. Marshalls were hugely excited to provide the landscaped area to the front of the store and to help enhance this overall shopping experience. The approach was taken to ensure that the Liverpool Shopping Park had a transformative effect on this part of the city and bring a much needed and exciting leisure and retail experience to the market. The development of the 49,000 square foot B&Q store at Edge Lane is one of the first B&Qs in the country to feature a new layout and refreshed departments, therefore the landscaped paved areas at the front of the store needed to match up to the exception internal standards and make a real visual and striking impression.Marshalls was enlisted to supply Modal paving, part of the internationally recognised La Linia range & Myriad paving, in a mix of grey tones and multi-sized paving units to achieve this visual landscape brief that the client was looking for.

Street Planters & Seating - Lower Steenberg's Yard, Newcastle

WoodBlocX Ltd

We initially began work on the designs for a series of raised planters and street furniture for Lower Steenberg’s Yard in 2019, after being contacted by ESH Group, the contractor working in partnership with the developers PfP igloo. The award-winning site combines distinctive design with river views to create an exciting and vibrant residential and commercial space. The design also includes a series of gardens and micro-allotments which sit alongside the pedestrian area bordering the river in front of the main building, this is where the WoodBlocX structures are situated.A total of 16 raised planters line the main pathway, each design is unique with a number of planters featuring integrated seating, which seamlessly fit within the main structures. The land slopes downward slightly and the planters have been tiered to provide level planting areas, maximising space and functionality. The modular nature of WoodBlocX and our capabilities for adapting angles gives landscape architects total design freedom. In this case, the installer, Wharton Landscapes were able to make adaptations, on site, accommodating those unforeseen changes to designs that can only be determined during construction, this ensured that the client’s vision was matched exactly.Whether we are working to an original design or a retrofit, the flexibility and versatility of our modular system means that we have the ability to bring landscape architects’ visions to life. The 28 apartment complex was completed in June 2021 and has since won the Future City Housing Award.
