OFFICE - ALBION MILLS - TOPCLIP TRANSITIONS

Quantum Flooring Solutions, a trading name of Quantum Profile Systems Ltd

The ProjectAlbion Mills is a high-end, purpose-built office complex near Willerby Shopping Park in Hull. It is a two-storey building, with numerous office suites for businesses to utilise. The custodians of Albion Mills planned to revitalise the interior of the offices. The new-look space would need a design with an understated colour scheme, which would be suitable for a working environment. This would include resilient flooring in parts, with carpet tiles adjacent to it. To link the vinyl and carpeted areas, a flooring transition would be needed. The flooring transition would need to bridge the gap between the two floorcoverings, incorporating the different thicknesses of the resilient and carpeted flooring without creating a trip or slip hazard. The design of the new offices called for the transition to be curved into different shapes, meaning that they would need to be suitable to curve on-site.The ApproachFloors Hull were appointed as the flooring contractor for the refurbishment. After deciding on the floorcoverings they would use for the project, they needed a flooring transition that would link the two together. Floors Hull decided that Quantum Flooring Solutions’ TopClip transitions range would offer the best option.TopClip is a range of flooring transitions which consists of 4 uPVC tops, which can fit into 6 different bases; 2 aluminium and 4 uPVC. All of the uPVC bases can be curved to a radius of approximately 750mm. Between them, the TopClip range can transition between practically any different gauge or type of floorcoverings. For the Albion Mills project, Quantum’s QTC42R top was used with the QVB1 uPVC base. This meant that the profiles could be curved into the necessary shapes. In order to get around tight curves, it can help to gently heat the profile with a hot air gun. This would have to be done skilfully by Floors Hull, so the profile would not become distorted. The OutcomeSteve McDonald from Floors Hull fitted the flooring in Albion Mills, along with the TopClip transition profiles. The end result looks fantastic, with the QTC42R and QVB1 curving well. As Steve says: “A very small amount of heat was used to create this tight radius, but the product itself was very flexible and went round with ease. Fantastic transition profile.”TopClip tops have 3 “teeth”, which allow them to be pushed flush to both floorcoverings which they transition between. This ensures that TopClip fits snugly on both the carpet and vinyl in Albion Mills, minimising the risk of trips. The tops are also slip resistant and durable, for extra safety. The flint coloured QTC42R tops look great with the dark and light grey carpet tiles. They fit perfectly with the aesthetic of the refurbished offices. Floors Hull, with the help of Quantum Flooring, have ensured that Albion Mills has a modern, professional design scheme for prospective tenants.

The ProjectCapital Content is a media content production team based in Cobham. The company provides videos, photography, audio, and various other marketing and branding media for a range of businesses and individuals.Capital Content approached G Harding Flooring, a flooring contractor, to “bring their office to life” with design featured flooring. The company records podcasts, film shoots and other advertising material for clients at their workplace, so the designs needed to match their own vision of how they wanted to be perceived.Glenn from G Harding Flooring carried out a site inspection with the owner of Capital Content, and discussed how to best incorporate their business logos and assets into the flooring layout. This would involve sourcing stair nosings and carpet tiles which would match the colours of the company’s branding. The ApproachGlenn contacted Quantum Flooring to talk about which stair nosings would be suitable for the job. Q-Range DUO Stair Nosings have tread inserts on both the tread and the riser of the profile. This enables the profiles to have either one colour on both or, as with this project, a different colour on the tread and riser for design purposes.Q-Range DUO allowed G Harding Flooring to pick colours for the tread and riser to match Capital Content’s branding and logo. As Glenn says: “We wanted to create a visual ‘wow’ factor to the entrance of the office where visiting clients would be first greeted on arrival – the staircase. Samples of additional colours to match Capital Content’s own branding was a big plus.“By using Quantum’s extensive colour bank, not only were we able to find a perfect match, we found 2! The colours, a bold pink for the tread, and a vibrant blue for the riser, gave the stairwell an abundance of colour that would change as you walked up it.”The OutcomeG Harding Flooring installed the Q-Range DUO profiles using Q-Fix Stair Nosing Adhesive. This has ensured a solid, firm and secure fixing which can withstand the traffic anticipated for the workplace. The stair nosings achieve the aim of an eye-catching entrance to the office, while making the stairs safe and easy to navigate. The branded theme is continued throughout the office, where G Harding Flooring installed hand cut logos and patterns utilising carpet tiles. The results are outstanding, with the offices being an excellent example of G Harding’s flooring design skills, and showcasing Capital Content’s brand and logo.As Glenn from G Harding Flooring says: “The client wanted to show the importance of branding, attention to detail and how to stand out from the crowd as this is a key service they provide to their clients. Where best to start and show off their visions? In their very own workspace.”

Quantum Flooring Solutions, a trading name of Quantum Profile Systems Ltd

The ProjectRobinsons is one of the largest independent breweries in the UK. It has a rich history, with the family brewing in the centre of Stockport since 1849. Its main building is called the Unicorn Brewery, after the pub which the family originally ran from 1838.The bottling plant needed a refurbishment, to help keep employees safe. The brewery requested a highly slip resistant flooring surface, to deal with the inherent risk of liquid spillages in the plant, which could cause hazards. To go with the floorcovering they also needed a hard-wearing, robust, and highly slip resistant stair nosing. The stair nosing would need to have low slip potential in both dry and wet conditions, to help ensure safety in the plant. The main way the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) assesses the slip resistance of flooring and stair nosings is by using a pendulum test, which measures the friction of a surface. In this way, a pendulum test value (PTV) can be given to different products. Any stair nosing must have a PTV of 36, or more, in dry and wet conditions to be considered low slip potential. The ApproachSteven Holland Flooring contacted Quantum Flooring to discuss the most appropriate stair nosings for the project. They decided to go with Quantum’s Ecoglo slip resistant yellow tread material, Eglo-34, fitted into double-channel SF225R Slenderline carriers.Ecoglo tread infills are often utilised for their photoluminescent qualities. From just 30 minutes of charge with either natural or artificial light, Ecoglo’s photoluminescent strips can provide 7 hours of glow in either internal or external environments. Ecoglo also has a slip resistant silicon carbide tread material.Eglo-34 is one of the highly slip resistant silicon carbide tread infills in the Ecoglo range. It has a PTV of 70 in dry conditions, and 66 in wet conditions. These both easily exceed the minimum required guidelines for low slip potential in HSE publications, and slip resistance in BS 8300-2:2018. This made Eglo-34 ideal for Robinsons Brewery. The OutcomeSteven Holland Flooring expertly cut Quantum’s yellow Eglo-34 silicon carbide strips to size, and fitted them in both channels of the SF225R aluminium stair nosings. As Ecoglo tread material is secret fix, there was no need for plugs to hide the screws. The result looks fantastic and helps to ensure the safety of all employees at the Robinsons bottling plant. The stair nosing is durable and has very low slip potential, with the double channel Eglo-34 double treads maximising the surface area of grip. The SF225R profiles have a ramped back, to remove any trip hazard at the back of the steps. With the help of Quantum’s stair nosings, Steven Holland Flooring have ensured a safe, secure and visually pleasing staircase in Robinsons bottling plant. The installation will be used for years to come, helping to prevent slips, trips and falls on the spiral stairs.

The ProjectLoughborough College provides a range of courses in further education, along with apprenticeships and professional qualifications. It is based on one of the largest student campuses in Europe, sharing the area with Loughborough University. Over 2000 students attend the college, with some living in adjacent halls of residence. The college staircases needed to be refurbished. The flooring was previously terrazzo, and this was to be changed to a rubber flooring. This was suitable in terms of durability and slip resistance for the large amount of people on the campus. To complement the flooring, the stair nosings had to be equally hard-wearing and safe. The stair nosings needed to adhere to all Building Regulations guidelines, along with BS8300:2-2018 and the Equality Act. This meant that they needed to have great slip resistant properties, and stand out from the black flooring to create a ladder effect on the staircases. This would help people to navigate the stairways, especially those with visual impairments. There was a special request from the college which would help to attain this noticeable difference between the stair nosings and the steps: “Hot Rod Pink” tread material, to match Loughborough College colours. The ApproachMidlands Flooring was hired as the flooring contractor for the refurb. As Hot Rod Pink is not a standard stair nosing colour, Dave Wilson from Midlands Flooring got in touch with a number of manufacturers to see if anyone could rise to the challenge.Within 24 hours, Quantum Flooring returned its proposal for manufacturing bespoke Hot Rod Pink tread material specifically for Loughborough College. The unique stair nosing tread would be made from the same material as Quantum’s normal tread, meaning it would be slip resistant and suitable for the frequent foot traffic.Quantum’s SR125R stair nosings were chosen to fit the tread material into. These profiles have a ramped back, to ensure that there would be no trip hazard on the staircases. They are raked back on the riser, to ensure a perfect fit on the steps. Plus, Quantum’s UTA aluminium stair edging trims were fitted, providing a safe and aesthetically pleasing finish to the side of the steps on the open string stairs. The OutcomeQuantum ensured a fast turnaround on the stair nosings, using the QSMS free measuring service. A Quantum representative electronically measured all of the steps to their precise lengths, and sent the results to the distributor Carpet & Flooring in Birmingham for the stair nosings to be cut and drilled.Midlands Flooring fixed the stair nosings with Q-Fix contact adhesive, ensuring a strong bond to the steps. Secret-fix was used to drill the profiles, meaning the tread material could be fitted on site, and there was no need for unsightly plugs to hide the screws in the tread. Quantum’s SR125R stair nosings with Hot Rod Pink tread material look fantastic in Loughborough College. The college was delighted with the results.Loughborough College has a unique, on-brand stair nosing tread for its refurbished stairways. Midlands Flooring did a fantastic job on the project, and Quantum backed them up with innovation and expedience.

Heritage Open Gas Fireplace

Heritage Open Gas Fireplace

Kompozit'All UK

application area: domestic heatinguse type: gas fireplaceproject scope: reline leaking chimneys while maximising the flue sizeadded value: 25-year guarantee on liner, no need to fit and maintain chimney fansBackgroundTwo chimneys failed the smoke test in this heritage property located in Hertfordshire. The chimneys had to be lined to comply with fire safety regulations. Domestic chimneys often require a chimney fan after lining as traditional rigid liners restrict much of the original flue opening. Chimney fans can be expensive to fit and maintain. FuranFlex-25 linings use the maximum flue opening, which often means there's no need to fit a noisy fan.Statement of workThe had to line both chimneys and prevent further leaks before the gas fireplaces could be fitted. This was achieved using FuranFlex-25 RWV liners, which are rated for operating temperatures up to 450 degrees C. The liners were specially produced to fit the flue diameter and length, accommodating any flue bends. The soft FuranFlex liners tube are inflated using pressurised steam which will gently push the liners to extend into the chimney flue. Inflating with steam will also cause a chemical reaction which sets the material harder than steel. The finished liner is smooth, jointless and highly corrosion resistant. Thanks to the expert installation and strong product quality control, both liners are guaranteed to work for 25 years.

FIREFLY™ TITAN Lite™ Protecting Life and History at new British Museum Facility

FIREFLY™ TBA

The decision by the British Museum to move a substantial part of its collection of historical artefacts from storage in London to a new state-of-the-art facility in Reading has led to a major fire-stopping contract for a specialist sub-contractor; featuring the use of the FIREFLY™ TITAN Lite™ 120:60 from the TBA FIREFLY™ range. The development at Cutbush Lane East, in the Shinfield district, has seen main contractor Graham Construction awarded a £30million contract for the erection and fit out of the new facility and while the original specification for the well proven and widely used FIREFLY product came from project architects, John McAslam + Partners, the installation and on site expertise was provided by St. Albans based Loftus Construction Solutions Ltd. in installing the 60 rolls of TITAN Lite™ in line with the manufacturer’s standard details and project specific guidance. The Project Manager for Graham Construction, Andrew Gardner, commented: “The British Museum is closing down its storage facility in central London and moving it here to the new research and storage building in Reading, which we expect to complete early next summer (2022). In terms of the fire barriers these have been designed with both life safety and asset protection prioritised: preventing break out of fire from places like plant rooms, and also the protection of dividing walls from both sides.“This has meant the use of in excess of 30 different details including bespoke ones which has led to TBA/Loftus assisting in further developing the initial specification by JMP to suit the unique site conditions. FIREFLY made several visits to site and offered a lot of useful technical guidance and assisted with alterations being made, while Loftus Construction Solutions Ltd has done very good work on the installation of these complex solutions.”Patrick Loftus, MD of Loftus Construction Solutions Ltd, added: “As an ASFP accredited contractor in conjunction with our FIRAS and LPCB Accreditation’s for Passive Fire Protection System we are familiar with the FIREFLY range and have, in fact been using another product from the range (PHOENIX) for three years in work at Whitechapel Station as part of the overall Crossrail Scheme. Again this has enabled us to be meet our Clients’ needs for multiple unique details on another complex project. TBA complements our on-site activities with their excellent technical support which ensures we can deliver on all aspects of projects to our Clients requirements.Combined with all the site reports, our operatives have undergone training from FIREFLY, including training delivered on-site. The work here in Reading is progressing very well in terms of all the compatibility of connection details and all stakeholders involved are pleased with the results and suitability of the products and installation work carried out.”As a flexible, woven material TITAN Lite™ is easy to cut and fix and is chemically treated to improve its cooling properties, meaning it will prevent temperatures rising in adjoining areas when used to create compartmentation. It is installed as a three-layer, staggered system to achieve 120 minutes integrity and 60 minutes insulation. The system has been fully tested to BS 476 Parts 20 & 22 and is third party certified by IFCC.

Polyroof Products Ltd

Working with Williams Roofing Contractors Ltd of Eastleigh, Hampshire, the winning project involved the refurbishment of a large water treatment plant that imposed stringent environmental and performance requirements. The outstanding workmanship and attention to detail by the Polyroof approved contractor during this large scale installation allowed this project to really stand out from the crowd. The below is a case study for this LRWA award-winning project, highlighting the many challenges and how they were overcome through innovation, workmanship and product choice. The SolutionFollowing a survey of the roof area conducted by Williams Roofing and Polyroof Technical Services, a detailed report was carried out after which a bespoke specification was produced and handed to the client. This document detailed a comprehensive set of recommendations for solving the issues that had arisen due to the aged condition of the roof coverings. The client, satisfied that the solution proposed would provide the lasting peace of mind they were looking for, awarded the contract to Williams Roofing Contractors Ltd to install the Polyroof Protec System. There were many challenges on this project as this was a live ‘Clean Water’ environment site, so all Williams Roofing Contractor staff on the project had to have the EUSR National Water Hygiene Cards and be fully inducted by Southern Water’s high standards. Working within these type of environments brings additional Health & Safety implications as the National Water Hygiene scheme is in place to ensure the protection of public health and promote safe drinking water practices. Further risks had to be considered and covered including the risk of working over open water areas with additional buoyancy aids on site to reduce the risks as described under CDM regulations.Williams Roofing Contractors Ltd had to be especially vigilant providing additional protection to ensure that no potential contamination or spills caused any contaminants to the clean water processes/water courses and environment with additional spill kits on hand. Due to the varying conditions of the roof construction(s)/substrates the preparation had to be thought through thoroughly. Certain roof areas needed to be scarified which would have caused reverberations through the roof/concrete deck. This would have possibly created contaminants by spooling of concrete/debris/dust to within the MF Compound Water Lanes/Tanks.

Boyco (UK) Ltd

In collaboration with Wynne Construction, BOYCO assisted in renewing Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi’s facilities including their classrooms, drama studio, IT suites, and science labs. We provided several bespoke fittings, tailored to fulfil the needs of this Secondary school community.Project ScopeSituated near Afon Teifi, Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi, (Cardigan School), fosters the motto of ‘every pupil will succeed’. Affirming this statement, the school worked closely with local authorities to initiate the refurbishment of current facilities, and a new build part of the school. The BOYCO Way BackgroundThe goal of the project was to increase the capacity of the school, due to it catering for pupils from Secondary to Sixth Form level. The newly developed learning environments were designed with enough space for staff to teach and support the development of pupils. We worked closely with both our supply chain partners, and Wynne Construction to ensure the running of the project went as smoothly as possible. To support overall sustainability and social value efforts, and to align with our values, we sourced fitters as well as materials local to the project site. This ensured a streamlined installation process for our customer and showcased our commitment to supporting local businesses and the communities that surround our project sites.Fitting to the school’s aesthetic, our in-house designers, in collaboration with architects, worked meticulously to craft products that looked visually appealing and balanced comfort with functionality, adapting to different subject needs and classroom environments. This ranged from the Drama Studio requiring a Teacher Wall to provide an interactive focal point for classroom activities, to Science Lab Worktops robust enough to withstand daily usage by students. Quality Bespoke ProductsIT SuiteCatering for over 650 students, Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi requested that we placed a high emphasis on space saving, and making classroom space usable to the full extent. For the IT Suites, we implemented 'Sawtooth Benching’. This layout angles towards the front of the classroom, providing an ergonomic and optimal view for students, reducing strain. This creates a more comfortable environment for students working on screens.Incorporating this forward slant allows students to effortlessly turn to each other, creating a collaborative environment that positively enriches their learning experience.Considering practicality in daily school life, the benching was designed to facilitate cable management, with dividers positioned in the middle of the table to keep the workspaces tidy and organised. This adds safety for those that use the IT Suites. Science LabWhen designing the Science Laboratories, special considerations were made regarding the worktop surfaces. Due to potential exposure to various chemicals, liquids, and heat, the material needed to be suitable for heavy-duty use and therefore a long-lasting solution was selected. Solid Grade Laminate (SGL) worktops were utilised due to their heavy-duty scratch and wear resistance, impact resistance, and ease of cleaning.A solid material with smooth machinability, it has hydrophobic properties preventing dampness, something traditional tabletops cannot provide. Perfect for bespoke fittings, it was tailored to the specific needs of the customer, whilst also providing an optimal surface finish. For Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi, this created an aesthetically pleasing environment whilst positively contributing to student safety.Following the theme of utilising space, the depths of the worktops were adjusted by BOYCO to align with side walls enabling greater aisle space between the Lab Benching. Enhancing manoeuvrability within the Lab reduces the risk of accidental collisions or spills, and facilitates ease of equipment sharing, contributing to a cooperative learning space. Staff RoomIn conjunction with ensuring an amazing space for students, this project also placed staff spaces at the forefront of works. The staff break out room was renovated to emulate a relaxing, resting space. As per the School's requirement to utilise all space, our in-house designers crafted a Tea Point fixture for Teachers and Visitors to access refreshments. An Econotop Worktop was favoured with its laminate coating, achieving an easy clean surface perfect for food and drink preparation. Customisable by colour, Oak Laminate doors were added alongside the worktop, enhancing the finished structure, and fitting with Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi’s bespoke requests. Project SuccessTeam BOYCO successfully completed a full design, manufacture, supply and install service for this project. Our teams visited the site often throughout the project, ensuring that each element of the works exceeded expectations of all those involved and aligned with our ‘Built to Last’ ethos. We are proud to have worked with Wynne Construction on this refurbishment. We look forward to continuing our ongoing relationship and can’t wait to get started on our next project.

The Tower, Cwmbran

Saint-Gobain Weber

The Tower, at 23-storeys is the tallest tower block in Cwmbran, South Wales, and has undergone a dramatic upgrade in both thermal performance and aesthetics with the use of Weber External Wall Insulation.U-values in this iconic building have been substantially improved and, occupying a very focal position in the town, the 1960s tower block now has a colourful and pleasing appearance. The refurbishment has been carried out on behalf of property owner Bron Afon Community Housing who report strong approval from The Tower’s residents at a recent tenant focus group. “We have some very positive comments from tenants of Bron Afon who appreciate a reduction in heating costs and are enjoying much greater comfort,” says Lee Phillips, project leader, Bron Afon Community Housing. “This is the second major EWI project that we have carried out in the town as the neighbouring Monmouth House is receiving the same external treatment.  The Weber EWI system is working very well for us.”The Tower provides 80 homes and has been wrapped in BBA-approved webertherm XM EWI, a high performance, lightweight system protected by meshcloth reinforced polymer render. The system calculated by Weber uses 90mm thick Mineral Fibre Density (MFD) insulation which has been mechanically applied to the substrate. MFD has the advantage of fire resistant qualities necessary for a high-rise structure. The highly weather proof webersil TF, a silicone based, through coloured, decorative finish has been used in a variety of colours and patterns to create a scheme led by the residents.Project architect John Needham of the Pentan Partnership, Cardiff, who has worked on other projects for Bron Arfon Community Housing, says: “This iconic building required essential repairs to bring it to modern day standards. It was the tallest block in the UK and the second to be retrofitted with fire sprinklers by Bron Afon Community Housing. The original U-value was 1.13 W/m²K which has been improved to 0.29 W/m²K after application of EWI, which is remarkable. The appearance of the finished Tower block has greatly enhanced the area.”The main contractor for the refurbishment was Seddon Construction Limited and the Network Weber-approved system applicator was FOZCS, (formerly TFR Contract Services), Birkenhead, Merseyside. Richard Williams of Seddon managed the project and acknowledged the support provided by Weber’s technical team. He comments: “To date this is the biggest EWI project we have handled from the Bristol office and everything has gone extremely well. The application of the EWI system was delivered to schedule and it was excellent to have the regular support of the Weber technical team to ensure the system achieved the target results.”Steve McCumiskey, site manager, FOZCS, is also enthused by the success of the project. “The Weber EWI system gives us the ability to achieve a superb finish and when the colours chosen are bright and imaginatively used as they are on The Tower the building takes on a new life. The insulation will make life more comfortable for the residents and the reduction in energy consumption is a great benefit.”The Tower is recognised as a landmark in the ‘new town’ of Cwmbran where work started in 1951 under the now disbanded Cwmbran Development Corporation.  The central retail area was started in 1959 followed by The Tower residential block which was completed in 1967. This classic 1960s urban architecture and the outlying estates are very representative of their time and remains a magnet for architects.

Raising the Grade!

C-TEC (Computionics Limited)

Hush Pro, C-TEC’s revolutionary BS 5839-6 Grade C domestic fire detection and alarm system, is now protecting three iconic tower block developments in Manchester.Located in the centre of Piccadilly, Oxygen Towers is a striking set of three new 31-storey, 16-storey and 10-storey buildings consisting of 345 stylish 1, 2 and 3-bedroomed apartments and 12 spacious family townhouses. Designed to provide the ultimate living experience, the futuristic ‘vertical village’ combines luxury accommodation with fabulous five-star leisure facilities including a swimming pool, cinema, gym and spa. The stunning development also features lush garden terraces and rooftop gardens.Selected for its cutting-edge technology and capacity to align with the building’s fire strategy, Hush Pro integrates with the site’s BS 5839 part 1 landlord system to offer higher levels of fire protection than the Grade D unmonitored battery alarm systems typically used in domestic installations. As a fully-monitored BS 5839-6 Grade C system, Hush Pro reports open and short circuit faults and operation faults back to the fire panel and even allows management and maintenance companies to remotely monitor the system. Each of the flats features an easily accessible low-level Hush Pro Controller connected to a series of Hush Pro smoke detectors, base sounders, multi-sensors and heat detectors all seamlessly interfaced to a powerful network of C-TEC 4-loop ZFP addressable fire control panels to provide all-encompassing fire and fault monitoring of the system. If, for any reason, part of the domestic fire alarm is compromised, this will immediately be reported to the building management team to allow them to action the fault and re-instate full fire detection coverage to the flat.Said Dan Perry, Projects Manager at Solid State, the specialist fire and security company involved with the design and delivery of the project: “As well as enhancing the fire safety management, property and life protection of the buildings, a key factor in our client’s decision to invest in Hush Pro was the system’s ability to notify building management in the event of a real fire and, at the same time, its potential to virtually eliminate false alarms.”“Hush Pro’s unique capacity to differentiate between Fire Level 1, usually a false alarm reported locally in the dwelling, and Fire Level 2, almost always a real alarm activated outside of the dwelling, reduces false fire alarms, unnecessary call-outs and the risk of a real fire alarm being ignored. As our client requires immediate notification in the event of a fire but also first-class false alarm management, Hush Pro is ideal.”“Also of vital importance to our client is that, as the project consists of private balconies with an open plan flat arrangement, Hush Pro is the only fire alarm solution that can actually meet the requirements of BS 9991 Annex D3.”Said Jason Lawler, 24-7’s Group Director and the person responsible for delivering the electrical and mechanical systems for the project: “Hush Pro is an outstanding solution. The system provides residents with easy-to-use detection, alarm, silencing and test facilities so they can test their own devices, be alerted to system faults and hush any false alarms at the Hush Button which is positioned at light-switch level for safe and easy access. Hush Pro’s powerful false alarm management capability will also prove invaluable at the site.”Said Dan: “Client satisfaction is incredibly important to Solid State so we were delighted to be able to specify a robust and fully-compliant integrated BS 5839 Part 1 and Part 6 fire alarm solution for Oxygen Towers. With its capacity to provide high levels of fire protection yet also minimise costly and disruptive false alarms, Hush Pro is fast becoming the system of choice for fire strategy engineers and consultants dedicated to enhancing fire safety in high-rise residential and specialist housing projects throughout the UK.”

Bauder Ltd

Chelmsley Wood Shopping CentreBauderflex bituminous waterproofing systemSynopsisChelmsley Wood Shopping Centre, located in East Birmingham, was experiencing leaks with their current flat roof waterproofing system and so they needed a quick, high quality solution to remedy the situation. Although competitors had suggested the only option was to strip the roof, Bauder found a more cost-effective answer by using our in house Troxler Moisture Gauge to identify any areas of wet roof construction, removing the saturated areas and then overlaying the whole roof area.Bauder Building BoardProject:Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre Location:BirminghamProject Type:RefurbishmentRoof Area:4500m²Specifier:Black Cat ConsultancyApproved Contractor:BBR Roofing LtdProject challengesThe works were to be undertaken in the middle of winter on the existing single ply covering which kept freezing when the operatives were drying the surface. Fixing down of the insulation boards (to the existing waterproof covering) was a noisy operation which also exposed the retail tenant below to risk of water ingress. Work had to be undertaken on a roof where ridges and valleys had to be navigated whilst managing the waterflow. The specification allowed for the removal and replacement of the saturated areas as identified by our moisture mapping survey. This operation had to be planned to ensure that the retail stores were not put at risk in terms of water ingress, but still managed to keep the works progressing to schedule. This was particularly difficult due to the exposed site and the inclement weather encountered. The resultAs a result, Large sections of cable bespoke design had to be developed with Bauder to overcome these challenging site details without the need to decant the retail tenants below. trays and handrails had to be lifted in situ so the roof works could be completed without compromising electrical or mechanical install.By working closely with the centre, a method of work was developed which fulfilled these criteria in terms of waterproofing, health and safety and business protection of the shopping centre. System installedBauderflex bituminous waterproofing system1 BauderFLEX K4EA torch applied SBS elastomeric bitumen capping sheet, featuring spunbond polyester reinforcement to allow the finished product to cope with structural movement without fracture.2 BauderTEC Sprint DUOA self-adhesive elastomeric bitumen underlayer with DUO lap technology.
