Fully compatible products from the range of TBA FIREFLY™ have been chosen to compartmentalise roof voids between apartments and communal lobbies of a large apartment building in the London Borough of Lewisham, providing 120 minutes fire integrity protection as part of a wide ranging refurbishment programme carried out earlier this year.The contract on Lewisham Homes’ Commodore Court in Albyn Road has been led by the sector specialist construction company, Mulalley & Co. with London/Sevenoaks based CLM Fireproofing carrying out the installation of the TITAN Lite™ 120:60 barrier system, in combination with Collaroll and the use of ancillary products from the FIREFLY™ range.CLM Fireproofing was founded 30 years ago by Clive Miles and has established a reputation as a leader in the fields of both passive fire protection and fire-stopping; working in a variety of sectors on projects right across the UK. A regular user of the FIREFLY™ range, many of its operatives have attended courses at the company’s premises in Rochdale to become trained FIREFLY™ installers.The Site Agent for CLM, Virginijus Pasvenskas, commented: “There was initially an intention to use a mineral wool flexible fire barrier, but the product was not tested for the scenario installed around the services such as a downpipe and it was upgraded to the use of the FIREFLY™ system by the client/project team. The system has been fully tested to BS 476 Parts 20 & 22 and is third party certified by IFC. The six metre long rolls of TITAN Lite™ 120:60 have a minimum thickness of 6mm and are installed using special staples as well as high temperature adhesive.Employed as part of the FIREFLY™ System and also to wrap the services which penetrate barriers such as PHOENIX, ZEUS Lite™ and APOLLO Lite™, Collaroll comes in a roll which unwraps to 10m long x 300mm wide with a sewn in concertinaed skirt. The skirt can be moulded to shape to seal it neatly to the upright barrier, which is usually at 90 degrees to the Collaroll and fixed into place using the FIREFLY™ high temperature adhesive. The R31 Staple Gun and Staples are used to staple the Collaroll to itself tightly around the penetration.

Hydrotherapy has always been on the agenda at Vranch House, but this vital treatment has recently been given a new lease of life with a completely refurbished state-of-the-art indoor heated swimming pool, including Altro Whiterock hygienic wall sheet. “The walling choices were integral to this vision. Altro was a key partner on the project because they were sympathetic to the broader picture and what we wanted to achieve for the children. Their level of experience and understanding helped us to find a solution that delivered across the board; on quality, safety, aesthetics and durability.

The design concept of this project focuses on the demolition of an existing building and replacing it with a new build mixed use development of 6 storeys (plus basement) 9 self-contained units on floors 1-5 and 377sq m of commercial space on the basement and ground floors. During the Phase 1 Primary Risk Assessment, borehole and trial pits revealed Dibenzo (a,h)anthracene, CO², TPH and Asbestos contamination. The proposed remedial strategy to be adopted at the site was one of managing the pathway between the source of contamination and the critical receptors on-site.

Bowline in Renshaw Street, Liverpool is a new development; a combination of student accommodation and apart-hotel rooms. Liverpool City Council approved the demolition of the existing Renshaw Hall building and the construction of the hotel and an 11-storey block of student accommodation; 49 clusters totalling 357 bedrooms with shared kitchen/lounge; and 47 self contained studios. The students communal facilities include a sky lounge, private dining room, fitness studio, karaoke room, and cinema room.Multiple residents in a building means more food being cooked and a higher risk of kitchen cooking fires. The Firechief Kitchen Stove Guard was fitted in all kitchen areas to help keep all the residents in the building safer. A fire on an induction hob can start in just 1.5 to 2 minutes and a fire on a traditional electric hob within 6 minutes.

Vega is a 37-storey new build property in Vauxhall, South London ideally located near to Kings College London, University College London, University of London, and University of Westminster.  The building houses a variety of 841 studio and shared student apartments and has a roof garden terrace, an on-site gym, cinema room, private dining area, and gaming zone all for student use, as well as a six-storey open-plan office. As the student accommodation had cooking facilities which included a hob, fire safety protection was considered to be of particular importance. Due to its unique benefits and ease of use for the students and the fact that other Downing Student properties across the UK had requested it, the Firechief Kitchen Stove Guard was chosen to be installed as standard in 497 apartments to complement the passive fire products which had also been fitted.

The access solution was manufactured in smaller modules which facilitated easier lifting and fitting. Pump House attended site on the day of installation.

Profile 22 has supplied its Optima Casement solution to 62 social housing properties in Rusholme, Manchester for Arawak Walton Housing Association. Merseyside based Total Glass, a longstanding member of the Profile 22 Approved Window Contractor scheme, supplied 434 Profile 22 Optima Casement PVC-U windows during refurbishment works on the homes. The Windows were installed by Lancashire based Countrywide UPVC. Garratt Mills is a transformed historic former gunpowder mill which has been developed into a new residential accommodation and a cultural hub located along the River Wandle in Earlsfield, London. The height of the buildings varies from two to eight storeys and houses a variety of 315 co-living homes, amenity spaces and roof terraces. The yard is a publicly accessible landscaped area surrounded by a café and flexible co-working space.Fire safety protection was considered to be of particular importance in the living accommodation and so the Firechief Kitchen Stove Guard was chosen to be installed as standard in all 315 of the apartment kitchens.

A strong vision from Northacre and one that has certainly been achieved when you look at the end result of The Broadway, a collection of luxury apartments in the heart of Westminster. Situated on the former site of the Metropolitan Police headquarters and just a short walk from Victoria Station, The Broadway is one of Central London’s largest prime residential sites at 1.72 acres. It comprises six impressive towers with a striking architectural presence thanks to their bold oversized windows inspired by neighbouring art deco buildings.

Glazing Vision worked closely with Architect, A R C Architecture Ltd, and Contractors, Matrod Frampton Ltd, on this incredible project located in Lymington, Hampshire, where the client was looking for their new pool room extension to include a large, flat rooflight, creating a peaceful and naturally lit room, perfect for a relaxing swim. They were also looking for a rooflight within the loft area of the home to allow natural daylight and ventilation to the space.Glazing Vision’s Flushglaze Fixed Multipart Rooflight in Slate Grey Matt was specified for the roof of the pool house, which was an impressive 3800mm x 10360mm in size, which almost mirrors the size of the swimming pool below.Bespoke glass was selected for this particular project. The double-glazed outer pane was made up of heat soak tested, toughened glass which offers a greater resistance to thermal stresses and provides better protection against glass breaking, reducing risk of injury, essential with a pool directly below.Argon gas filled the space between the panes of glass which helps insulate the room and minimises the transfer of heat through the glass along with a black warm edge spacer which is an insulating plastic composite material that becomes a barrier to heat loss.The inner pane consisted of heat soak tested, toughened, PVB laminated glass which prevents glass shattering under impact by holding the shards together on the membrane so they cannot become lethal, and includes a soft coat low E rating of 1.1, helping with the energy efficiency of the room by reducing energy costs.The product was tested to class 1 in accordance with CWCT TN66/67 which is essential for rooflights which might be walked on for occasional cleaning/ maintenance activities, and which will therefore need to support both the weight of people on the glass and their equipment, which may be required on this occasion.The rooflight was supplied in 6 sections with internal back-to-back angles at the joints between each section. The 6 sections were sized to achieve an equal split when viewed from underneath.Our Skydoor Electric Hinged Access Rooflight was specified on the roof of the loft space which is ideal for ventilation and regular access, and offers natural daylight to the space below. Intelligent actuators ensure synchronized operation between the two supporting mechanisms, so the Skydoor opens to a maximum 87° in one fluid, trouble-free motion, providing you with easy access to the space above.The glass was a double-glazed unit comprising of a heat soak tested, toughened, soft coat low E (1.1) outer pane, with Argon Gas within the space between the panes and black warm edge spacer, with the inner pane consisting of heat soak tested, toughened, PVB Laminated glass, and was also tested to class 1.Both rooflights were expertly installed by our sister brand, Glazing Renovations.“Glazing Vision were helpful in explaining the two different upstands required for the different glazing systems. Client: Tottenham Hotspur Football Club Design: Populous Main Contractor: Mace Main Products Used: Emshield DFR2 and Emseal Security Seal SSW2Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has moved into its new home which also has a partnership with the American NFL that will see at least two major American football games played at the stadium each season. This was made possible by the innovation of a retractable natural grass pitch, which will be used for Spurs home fixtures and an artificial multi-use surface underneath for the NFL matches, plus concerts and other events. With a seating capacity of 62,000, the Tottenham stadium is designed to ensure that the spectators are closer to the pitch than at any other comparable ground in the UK. It also includes the UK’s largest single tier stand, which will hold up to 17,000 fans in the Spurs home-end. As is typical for modern stadium design, there was a critical requirement for wide and high movement joint sealing systems in several important areas. These included joints in the plant service areas and walkways over prestige VIP and hospitality suites that also had to provide fire resistance, plus the important and often difficult heads-of-doors joints. These requirements were all safely and securely met using Emseal DFR-2 and Emseal SecuritySeal SSW2 respectively

Split-level stainless steel sinktops and splashbacks were specified in the educational visitor area as well as to the baby-change units and washrooms.20mm edge (7) provide a clean and simple aesthetic and the the worktops include integrated sink bowls Le50. Splashbacks were added for additional durability and functionality. All in EN 1.4301 grade brushed satin stainless steel.

After first cleaning the roof and attending to rusted areas with Liquasil’s corrosion primer, it was the coated with Metalseal 20 from Liquasil, using airless spray equipment. The specification for this roof was for a special RAL colour. Only Liquasil can make silicone coatings in any RAL colour, so Metalseal 20 was specified for the project. This roof was completed in Forest Green.

The commercial airline’s hangar at Aberdeen International Airport was in need of a new floor coating, as the old surface was showing signs of age and wear. The epoxy coating Flowcoat SK was chosen to create a seamless floor that would be able to maintain an unblemished, impervious and easy to clean finish despite the movement of planes, exposure to Skydrol hydraulic fluid and heavy onsite equipment.

The village comprises of holiday accommodation and facilities for sports and leisure, including a gym and restaurant. Many of these facilities are based inside the Unison Clubhouse, which was roofed in corrugated tin – an old material ill-suited to a focal building and in desperate need of a refresh.Metrotile Slate .900 was chosen as the replacement for its clean aesthetics and its high impact and weather resistance

ChallengeTargeted with achieving a minimum BREEAM rating of Excellent and with only a short window of time to complete the project, Associated Architects, who designed the building, needed insulation products that would meet strict thermal and environmental requirements – as well as a manufacturer that could offer quick turnaround times and a high level of technical support.SolutionWith the help of Knauf Insulation specification manager, Marc Lawson, a through wall solution using 5,000m² of Knauf Insulation’s 100mm Rocksilk® RainScreen Slab – a rock mineral wool slab containing a water repellent additive, specifically designed for rainscreen cladding systems was used. It is quick and easy to install and is simple to cut and fit around brackets. The slabs knit together with no need to tape the joints – ensuring maximum acoustic and thermal performance, with no air gaps. Knauf Insulation’s Rocksilk® RainScreen Slab is also non-combustible and has the highest Euroclass A1 reaction to fire classification, as well as excellent sound absorption performance.To further enhance the thermal properties of the element, 10,500m² of Knauf Insulation’s Rocksilk® Flexible Slab 100mm, was installed in two layers within the SFS system. Designed to friction fit between metal studs, rafters and joists, Rocksilk® Flexible Slab is a multi-purpose rock mineral wool insulation slab, which provides excellent thermal and acoustic performance.Chris Kinman, Senior Design Manager at Willmott Dixon commented; “Knauf Insulation’s products are easy to handle and cut which makes them very easy to use on site. IssueSaxen's 7,000 sq ft showroom, based in a renovated lace mill, displays a selection of some of the most innovative, contemporary, and stylish commercial furniture and accessories from across Europe. The showroom, boardroom, corridor, and breakout area needed a new floor which would create a perfect blend of design and style, aligning with the fashionable interior of the building which showcases modern furniture. ApproachEach adjacent area needed a unique design creating a natural flow through the building. As the areas are subject to high footfall from visiting customers and staff, the floor also needed to be durable, easy to clean and provide comfort underfoot with noise reduction. SolutionAltro Ensemble, an award-winning modular flooring system luxury vinyl tile was specified for each of the public-facing areas. With the ability to create unique designs, Altro Ensemble planks in colours Greige Rustic Oak and Anthracite Limed Harmonious Oak were laid in a herringbone pattern in the corridor, and block tiles in colours Anthracite Concrete and Fossil Stone through the showroom, boardroom and breakout area.

Liquasil's BBA Approved Metalseal 20 roof coating and Gutterseal system were specified for use on the Airspace Trampoline Park in Wolverhampton. The whole roof was pressure washed and a historical cut-edge corrosion treatment was removed before application; the cut-edges were treated with our SWT Corrosion Primer, with additional reinforcement to the mid-laps through the installation of Liquasil's optional HP Butyl Tape.The whole roof was then coated with Metalseal 20 in Goosewing Grey at a filmweight of c. 300 microns to provide a protective, aesthetically pleasing finish.The gutters were cleaned out and dried before being primed with our SWT Corrosion Primer. Once touch-dry, the joints could then be sealed using our Non-Sag Sealer and a single coat of Liquasil One was applied to the entire gutter. Liquasil One can be immediately applied over the top of Non-Sag Sealer, meaning no time is wasted waiting for it to cure before the works can continue.The end result was a revitalised metal roof with a protective, water-resistant coating that is guaranteed for 20 years.

Viega has supplied its cold applied Profipress and Sanpress Inox press connection systems to the latest refurbishment of the 17th century Queen’s House in Greenwich.Queen’s House, a Grade I listed building and scheduled ancient monument, was originally built between 1616 and 1635 and is the last surviving section of the palace of Greenwich. Queen’s House is now part of the Royal Museums Greenwich and is home to a large collection of important paintings, drawings and sculptures. Over the last few years the 400-year-old building has undergone a program of vital maintenance.The scheduled ancient monument protection is granted to sites of national architectural importance and makes it a criminal offence to damage the monument in question. The importance of the building meant that during the maintenance work the materials and methods used had to be carefully considered. For example, no hot works of any kind were permitted on-site so traditional soldering or brazing of pipework was not an option.Mechanical and electrical maintenance specialist Red100 was selected to carry out the work as the latest in a number of contracts to work on the building. The renewal of the pipework systems included the heating and chilled water systems, for both of which the supply comes off a header pipe from a plant room located in another building. The contract also included work on the greywater system.As a result of the restrictions on hot works, press connection technology was the chosen methodology for the pipe installation. Viega’s Profipress system was selected for use on the copper heating and water pipework while the stainless steel greywater pipe was connected with Sanpress Inox fittings.Stephen Phillips, Director at Red100 said: “We were familiar with press connection technology, having employed it on a number of similar projects. We had been recommended the Viega systems and were impressed by what we saw when we visited Viega’s production facilities in Germany.”Paul Burkett, Technical Sales Manager at Viega commented: “After discussing the requirements with Stephen at Red100 we were confident that the Viega products fitted their needs exactly. Also the range of different press connection options offered by Viega meant that there were suitable products available as the scope of the work expanded.”Due to the historical significance and protected status of the building as well as the priceless nature of the artwork housed within the Queen’s House, the security of the connections was paramount. Any water leaking from incomplete or inadvertently unpressed joints had to be avoided due to damage it would cause. The SC-Contur feature designed into products from across the Viega range, including Profipress and Sanpress Inox, ensure that any missed connections are reliably identified during testing. This avoids expensive and potentially damaging failures once the project is complete.Stephen Phillips concluded: “We were delighted with the performance of the products. The installation on Queen’s House went very smoothly and as a result we have subsequently used the Viega systems on other projects."
